  1. I can start my 84 in 1st gear but cannot get it into neutral! I just repaired the shift pit problem I was having and now no neutral. Hard to get out of the garage in gear....
  2. Start Florida Keys Ride first thing in the morning. Will meet CaptainJoe near Savannah on Sunday morning.
  3. I have a new to me 1983 venture that i just got running after a complete carborator cleaning. Now the starter seams like there is not enough power in the battery to turn it over, but this is the same battery that i use on my other 1983 venture and it starts it fine. It almost seams as if it might be something in the starter, not sure if brushes would cause this kind of problem. I also have a high amp batter charger with a start option, that i tried, but it still cranked very slow then it will start. Does anyone have any ideas where i should start. Thanks Dave
  4. This isn't a Trans Am Forum but there seems to be vast knowledge on this site. Since I bought my 91 Trans Am with a 305 Tune Port - it is hard to start after it sits for two days. If I pump the gas some it will eventually start - once it starts it seems good. Then - about two weeks ago it started to act like the fuel filter was plugged. So I replaced the filter and the MAT sensor. Seems to run better but still runs like it has bad gas. At a stop sign - I drop it into first (it is an auto) and drive it hard through the gears and it runs great. Any ideas?
  5. Pegscraper brought this up on another thread and I thought this would be a good discussion. In 2010 it looks like there couls be a totally new redesign for the Venture. Speculation is that at its heart will be the new V-Max engine in some form of detune , probably with strong low and mid range. The V-max engine is Fuel Injected. The question is will it reall make the engine and bike more effecient or is carburetor technlogy still viable? I used to work for Delphi where we delevoped the Efi for Harley. All indications so far are that the Harley engine start quicker with no warm up neccesary and that the engines actually run smoother and have better throttle response. Plus new Fly-by-wire technology is all the rage F.I .is needed to go to that step. ? What do you think?
  6. Sunday I stopped for gas, and the bike wouldn't start with a buzzing noise. A push start later, and I was home. Of course, it started right up. This morning, I just got buzzing again. I've heard variously that it could be the starter solenoid or the starter relay. I just can't interpret the manual and the posts here as to where these are? Under the battery? Can someone kindly point me where it is? What does it look like? Dave
  7. 06 RSV. when put the stand down in with it in neutral it dies so took the switch off took the back panel off of the switch treid to start it it started moved the handle bars tried to start it again it wont start this has happen to me bofore i just rock the bike while on the side stand and some times its start some times it dont but i hear a loud clicking noise so i took the seat and all the side covers off. the noise is comeing from what i can tell is the starter selanoid i am guessing that that is what it is its under the seat and the positive and negative cables run to it. so can it be that the thing is going bad it has done this off and on for the past two years or is it something else that i should be looking for?
  8. Hey all, I checked out most all the threads on the neutral switch, but didn't find anything that resembles this issue. I had to replace the ignition switch ( main power on contact plate fried). put in a switch from a '78 400 special mounted on the left side of seat. everything worked fine when on the hoist. Set the bike down, tried to start,,, no spark! followed the wiring schematic and traced it back to the neutral switch. will start only when the stand is up or stand down and clutch engaged. Could it be the gear indicator in the Tranny? if so, would it be best to bypass the clutch neutral switch on the bars? I prefer to keep the stand working, and i don't use the clutch to disengage the cruise. Thanks in advance
  9. Well I had a little time so I dug out my 83. I got the headlight changes, lowbeam still does not work GRRRR. I had already had it on the charger. Got it fired up, stung bad for a bit then cleared up. Took it out for a spin. Stopped at a friends place to chew the fat. when I went to leave the starter just growled, no start. I let it sit for a couple hours and tried again, nope not happening. We pushed it down his drive n got it started, not to hard. Got home and let it sit until I got home from work. Tried to start it and nothing. Checked the battery and it was dead so I figured it was bad and got a new one. Not the battery is dead again and still no start. Any ideas? Shaun
  10. My buddy's RSV runs fine and all is good...most of the time. It will sit one day or several, but there will be a dead battery when he goes to start it. He is on his fourth battery since they will never re-charge. He called me and said it was dead again. Two weeks ago we checked every fuse for power drain and all was well with that at the time. I am thinking that the switch may be the problem and is coming on for some reason. It could set a week and start again fine or be dead overnight. Any opinions?
  11. Ok, I'm just checking. I'm doing the R1 brake upgrade using the forks off an '87. I'm going to need the front axle for the '87. Thought I ask around the site before I start digging in the online listings. Anybody got one laying around that needs a home? Mike
  12. Hi guys, i have a 1300 from 1990 and when i try to start it, it won't turn over. i have checkt the battery and need to by replaced (broken). when i try to jump start it whit an external battery the cables come very hot and smoking, but still the starter will only turn once or twice and very havy and slow. any ideas before i go shopping? thnx, Ice
  13. Hello, I'm getting my 1985 VR 1200 up and I'm haveing some problems. I started with charging my old battery, I Put it back in and the battery light came on and the main fuse went when I went to start it, I replaced the fuse and tryed again. The battery is old so I went and got a new one and some fresh gas, charged the new battery put it in and the bike with the fresh gas, It will turn over faster now but dose not even try to start up, The battery light still comes on also. The bike worked fine when I put it away for for the winter. Anyone know what I can do? Thanks, BMattie
  14. Just bought one of these to do all tunings . Very cool to have EFI. No choke . Im doing a stage one kit to start which will give me about 10 more hp and about 20 lbs of tq http://www.fuelmotousa.com/powervision.htm
  15. Ok, not a huge deal but it's making me nuts. I have Logitech wireless laser mouse that has developed a twitch. It's two years old and always works fine but in the last week it started the odd behavior. I can be on any site anywhere and I'll jump screens and the cursor will suddenly start dragging and jumping in an uncontrolled act of defiance. I can kick the 'puter into standby mode and it will clear up and work ok for a while and have good control. Then again on a different site or different page it will start up again. Just won't follow my lead. Batteries have been changes several times, lens in clean, connections with USP are the same and solid. System doesn't show any odd behaviour when it happens and no excess useage. Oh yeah, sometimes when I single click on something it will lock on a start highlighing where ever the cursor ends up. Should I be looking for a system problem or just put the mouse out of it's misery and replace it? Mike
  16. Wow I got a long way to go to catch up this new one with the RSV chrome. My first list is just shy of 5000.00. What did I do ? Kelly thinks Im nuts and says whats wrong with the old one . I say " nothing " just time to start a new project.
  17. Is it as bad as it looks like it'll be? What are some things i should look for? How many hours worth of work am i looking at? I'm going to switch to one that has a CB. This will probably be a doozy of a project, but ill start on it after i get my carbs redone and back on the bike
  18. Hello. Im new to this forum, just got my first 2005 RS de luxe...yehaaa.... I test rode it, it was nice... I rode it immediatly the next day, and the 3rd day this happend: I decided to try the cruise control(did not tryied in the test ride...I know...dumb), and whe I reach my desired speed, I engaged the CC, but the engine died... I start it again, came home and try to start it again; It did start in neutral, but since then, every time I engage the 1st or any shift, it died immediatly!!!! So, at this point I can start the engine fine, as long as is in neutral, but it dies on me everytime I change to a shift. My first guess was a failing side-stand switch, but I tested continuity and works fine. My second guess is some sort of clutch sensor or switch, but thats all I can think of.... Any help will be appreciated.... thanks in advance
  19. We had some rain night before last and the bike sat out in it while I was working. Temps were in the low 40's. Bike would turn over and catch, just couldn't get it to continue running. Wound up letting it roll downhill to start. What's up with that?? Figure it's moisture some where, just no clue where.
  20. Help, can not find information on how to start a poll to a thread I started. i do not see where to even start the poll. Sux getting older. Thanks for any help.
  21. I have looked through the picture gallery and found no threads of pictures of our members. Well here is one and I will start it out. http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/uu264/reddog170/DSCF6089.jpg First the boss with the clock in hand http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/uu264/reddog170/DSCF6450.jpg
  22. Decided to give both my seafoamed VRs a mid winter start. Both started up just fine. Going to let them run for about 15 minutes.
  23. The first bike night of the season and the wife and I ride down for a short look around and dinner. We park the bike and start walking when we see a Pearl White RSTD and a 1st gen. Venture, so I decide to move our 07 RSTD and park it beside the White RSTD. When I got back the owners of the two bikes were there. So I parked the bike and start talking with them when I said hey there is another RSTD then the Venture owner said there was six of us there with-in 20 feet of each other all RSTD with exception of the 1st gen. Venture. I thought this was a nice showing for the Royal Star bikes, when I had a VTX we could never seem to get a group committed to getting together.
  24. I appear to be having an issue with Number 2 Cylinder. Gas mileage is not what I think it should be ... low thirties rather than at least high thirties, and I have long suspected that one or more cylinders isn't pulling it's weight. On a recent ride home of about 90 miles, the rev counter started misbehaving. It would be steady at 4000 then drop to zero for short periods, jumping again to 4000 rpm. That is entirely consistent with #2 Cyl. cutting out and in. From a cold start, the exhaust to #2 remains cold. It will start running once it's revved a bit, but it's inconsistent. So there clearly is an issue with that cylinder. It could be any one or more of a number of things and I'm happy enough to pull it apart to find out what. I plan to replace all the plugs, wires, plug caps as a matter of routine. I can easily diagnose a failed coil but I was wondering if I should be looking deeper than that. As I understand it the only other parts in the system are the TCI and the Pick-Up Coils. Does the failing Tach indicate anything that might pinpoint the problem? At the moment I am seriously considering the TCI upgrade too. I may well simply start by replacing the diodes in the original, but I can't help thinking that a long term fix is going to be the upgraded unit Dingy was selling. Any thoughts?
  25. I took the Brown fox for an Autumn ride today Ii got about 12 miles from home when I notice a cloud following me. I pull off the road and the fox is smoking like crazy. i shut her off and climb off to see oil dripping out of the(I think) tranny case rather quickly. Its running down onto the collector box and onto the ground. I shut the engine off and the oil stream slows an stops. I start the engine and it starts to flow again. I call a tow truck and take it home. The questions i have: 1.) is there a drain plug on the bottom of the tranmission and could it have worked loose. If not, outside of a possible cracked engine case what else could have caused this leak. To actually be able to see the underside of the engine i'll have to pull the collector box. before i do i need to know if its worth it and what i might find under there. Special note: For the last few weeks the engine started making an internal rattling noise while idling on the side stand.. If its not fixable then I'll either start piecing it out or sell it outright for parts. but before i do that I hope to know if its salvage able. Please help guys and gals.
