  1. Hey guys, I'm looking for a tach for my Midnight and not sure what to get.. I got up all confused over the single / dual ignition thing etc.. What's out there that is bone dead simple to install etc? I had a small little digital tach thing that I couldn't make work as it required me to splice into too many odd wires to make it work (needed converter signal cables etc) Suggestions?
  2. I have a question for you all. I am looking at changing out the front reflectors for some LED marker lights. I had this crazy thought that I could maybe make them also part of the turn signals. I was reading on a nother site how a fellow connected a light bar something like what some of us are using for extra brake lights only his was a single function, but he made it dual as tail and brake light by adding some simple resistors and diodes available at radio shack. This is his diagrham. Substitue the turn signal for the brake in the pic. Could not find a 4003 number diode @ RS anymore so not sure what you would use limit wise. 330 ohm as long as it was 12v or more right? http://www.gadgetjq.com/ledbrake-run_circuit_single_image.gif (pic form Gadgets fix it page for Vulcans)
  3. After being part of the Verizon program for many years and paying way too much for a cell phone and hating to be under a contract, I finally switched over to Straight Talk. I am not one to want or need one of the smart phones so the simple program works fine for me. I like a simple flip phone that I can close so I went to Walmart and bought one with a camera for about $50 and did the "All you need" program with 1000 anytime minutes, 1000 text messages and some internet for $30 for 30 days. They use Verizon towers, so the service is the same. It is easy to do the auto-fill and it is $32 and change with tax. For those of you that want it, they have unlimited everything for $45 + tax for 30 days. After I determined I liked what I got, Linda and I decided to do the same thing for her. But when I signed up on line for mine, I found that they also offer a bunch of different phones and some are free. We ended up getting a flip phone for Linda that looked brand new that had been refurbished and all she had to do was pick out the phone, which was an LG and buy the first month program with no contract. There is no activation fee and you can keep your old number if it is still active. Anyway, I thought I would throw this out to anyone that wants to look at a different alternative and so far I am very pleased. SGN, Steve Neal, did this and tried to get me to do this a long time ago and wish I had taken his advice then. RandyA
  4. Looking at buying a multimeter for some simple use on the bike, etc. What do y'all think about this one? http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/AutoTools/MultiTesters/PRD~0251060P/MotoMaster+Digital+Multimeter.jsp?locale=en or maybe this one... http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/AutoTools/MultiTesters/PRD~0251031P/Digital+Multimeter.jsp?locale=en
  5. Greetings, Previously I had posted some problems I was having with battery on a trip I had just went on.Tracked problem to r/r. I have searched but have not found any articles how to replace this unit. What I have read I believe it is fairly simple to change and it is on the left side of engine. I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction on how to do this. By the way the bike is a 2000 RSV. Thanks.
  6. SIMPLE TRUTH 1 Partners help each other undress before sex. However after sex, they always dress on their own. Moral of the story: In life, no one helps you once you're screwed. SIMPLE TRUTH 2 When a lady is pregnant, all her friends touch the stomach and saying "congrats". But, none of them come and touch the man's penis and say "Good job". Moral of the story: "Hard work is never appreciated. No Underwear - Makes Sense to Me A man came to visit his grandparents, and he noticed his grandfather sitting on the porch in the rocking chair wearing only a shirt, with nothing on from the waist down. 'Grandpa, what are you doing? Your weenie is out in the wind for everyone to see!' he exclaimed. The old man looked off in the distance without answering. 'Grandpa, what are you doing sitting out here with nothing on below the waist?' he asked again. The old man slowly looked at him and said, 'Well....last week I sat out here with no shirt on and I got a stiff neck. This is your grandma's idea.' FIVE RULES TO REMEMBER IN LIFE 1. Money cannot buy happiness, but it’s more comfortable to cry in a Corvette than on a bicycle. 2. Forgive your enemy, but remember the *******’s name. 3. If you help someone when they're in trouble, they will remember you when they're in trouble again. 4. Many people are alive only because it’s illegal to shoot them. 5. Alcohol does not solve any problems, but then neither does milk. THERE YOU HAVE IT...and remember, life is good.
  7. Guest

    Delivered today.

Got my new Utopia backrest in the mail today . Can't wait to install it. Hopefully I can get to it Wednesday night. For those of you who have already installed one, any tricks you want to share with me, or is it as simple as the pictures show?
  8. I want to mount on our '07 RSV, and for the life of me, I can't find the thread where this mod is addressed. I'm pretty sure it is simple, but that's about all I remember. Anybody else know about this? Thanks. Bert
  9. I know you all like pics so how do add pics simple instructions please or just tell me where to find the instructions
  10. I bought this 86 a few months ago for the bigger bags and sold my 84 now I can say I hate the 86. I went to make it tip top so I can make it to Vogel this summer with new tires oil and filter changes and new front springs with a trailer hitch. The things I have to unbolt and take off to do simple maintenance compared to my 84 is killing me I sometimes wish for my 84 back, I need help...lol
  11. I know this has been doscussed, but I couldn`t find the post. I just got a set of TD handle bars from Phoneman and am wondering if the throtle cables will need to be relocated or is it a simple swap? I don`t want to get it tore apart and not have it ready to ride to work in the morning, so any info would be great...I might even buy ya a Blizzard!!! Thanks, Kreg
  12. A while back I was on about trying to get some form of 4.5" LED highway lights working on this bike, going through the fiasco of the rip off artists with their shyte bulbs, and finally on the Custom Dynamics. But no matter what was installed, horrible RF interference was heard through the bike's radio and audio system.. so much to make the sound system on the bike useless, thus making the LED lights unusable.. Well I'm happy to announce that I managed to sort it out and got the LED highway lights on the bike and without any radio interference at all.. (I don't use CB personally so can't say how it works on that, sorry) I was chatting with the nice people at http://www.customled.com about some other project and then posed the question to them if they could come up with a solution or if they made their own.. Though they said they might not be able to build another new light like this, they did come up with a probably fix to try out and wouldn't you know it.. it works! And simple.. I should have thought of it before.. but didn't.. grr Simple aluminum foil wrapped around the back of the light itself! that's all.. I thought it couldn't be THAT simple.. so I grabbed a couple sheets of aluminum foil and tested it out myself.. wow.. no kidding.. took the bike out for a ride, scanned up and down the channels and not a buzz from the lights. I rode wit the lights off until I heard a weak channel and then turned them on, expecting them to down out the weak channel but nothing.. the channel didn't drown out in a hiss or buzz.. wow.. YAY.. Working LED highway lights! Simple way to do it is to get two layers of a foil around the back of the light, and pinch it towards the front of the light (looks like a hershey kiss) so that you can mount it back into the light fixture. Obviously you'll have to make sure the electrical connectors aren't able to make contact with the metal or you'll have a short.. once the light is attached and done up, you can pull away at the a foil pinched out the front, trimming it with a knife of need be.. Simple as that.. However, to pretty it up I have some aluminum deck tape (used for aircraft firewall application) that should do the same job and make the mounting of the lights easier.. I just have a buckshee set up now for the testing. But it works! Now once I have the Moon Shinez signal lights to flash normally, bobs your uncle..
  13. how can I tell if my atv is in need of a major redo ? I own a 97 honda 300 fourtrax. Cranks and runs good but seems that it is loosing a little power.Alos when I crank it iif it has been a couple of dayssince the last frie up it will 4smoke blue four a few seconds. LOnger if its set longer since it was run. Im not a mechanic so anyhting that I can check with simple tools will be appreciated. When I first got it it was extremely cold natured and was hard to start. A couple of tanks dosed with seafome stopped that. Any help would be apreciated David Ps. If there are any atv mechanics close by and willing to help Ill pay.
  14. Well folks I took the plunge and had ordered a buncha parts and tools, one of which were the Leveling Links from DR. The instructions didn't look complicated per se but they talked about remove a bunch of hoses from some contraption and silly enough it was a little intimidating to me.. However, once the bike was sky hooked and sitting stable, a quick looks showed how simple of a job this was going to be.. wow. Pull two bolts, replace the old hardware with the new, grease stuff in the process and voila, Leveling Links installed.. Down she goes for a test ride.. and egads I almost dropped the bike LOL.. I say almost because the babe wanted to kiss that corner like there was NO tomorrow and she recovered sweetly like I had never seen her do before. wow.. what a difference!! Ever do a tight turn and have that weird sensation that the front end was going to turn into itself and lock up, causing you to drop the bike? ( c'mon, I know you have lol) Well the leveling links basically got rid of that sensation and allows you to properly power out of that tight turn like the should do when properly handled.. I can hardly wait to let her loose on the MOST II course this week =) Hesitating about doing the links? It's simple and well worth the expense and time/effort to install.. wow. You can paint me as one satisfied customer!
  15. This is something I do to all my bikes. It is very simple thing to do and easily installed. If there is enough interest in this I will make a write up and post it with pics.
  16. Sometime back some one posted a simple quote on types of riders..Like There are those who ride, those who talk about riding....ect.....Anyone know where I can find it? Need to quote it to some who need refreshing on another site...Thanks for the help...
  17. Ok I have been all over this forum and I am more confused than ever LOL. I am looking for a decent tach for my 99 RSV. Simple hook up as I am no mechanic and price worthy. Any suggestions out there for me? TIA guys you all rock.
  18. I installed a new tach to the bike today and it works. Simple and easy installation. VERY simple.. Bike idles at 1,000 rpm and it's fun to watch it wind up into the 6,000 range when dropping the hammer.. I couldn't see where the rev limiter was kicking in as I was too busy watching the road BTW, where DOES the rev limiter kick in and what's red line on this engine? Being old air force, I'd be putting VnE and VnR markers on the gauge hehe.. All I need now is to make a bracket that brings it up and twists forward to align it properly, or I might just leave it as is since I would be using it for reference only anyway..
  19. It's all very simple when explained this way. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLDgQg6bq7o]YouTube- Turbo Encabulator[/ame]
  20. I just bought a '97 RSTD and would like to know the best way to modify the stock pipes on it to increase the sound. Or is there a better way to get what I want; i.e., Road King pipes, etc. Also, if I do any modification, will the carbs have to be adjusted. I want to keep it as simple as possible (and cheap). Also, does anyone know if a set of SE mufflers off of a 1999 Harley Dyna Super Glide would work?
  21. Ok, first I would like to say that I have no mechanical ability. I am not embarrassed by this only frustrated. I have had over 50 years to learn to live with it. While I can do some simple things, sometimes I have to be shown they are simple. Sometimes repeatedly. Now that I have gotten that off my chest, what tool to I need to remove the seat on my 07 RSV? I need to get to the batter, it is dead. I think I have found the bolts on the bottom side, but can't seem to get to it with a wrench and it doesn't look like there is enough room to get to it with a socket. I truly do not want to have to get the bike towed to the dealer to change a battery. But am almost desperate enougt to call the Yamaha Road Side assistance and take the abuse so I can start riding again. Not sure why this is so much harder to get to than my old 83VR. On a related side note. I did have a trickle charger hooked and it shows charged, but I got no electrical response from the bike. Maybe it is something else? Thanks
  22. Well some Rock star, reached into my truck at the local 7/11, and stole my just remapped and updated tom tom. Not worth calling the cops. So I know the Calgary druggies are going to have a little rock today. anyone else had a simple ripoff happen?
  23. Please.... step by step. My exwife told me I was not very smart, so make it simple please. Cb
  24. Looking into LED's out back for the tail and brake light. Tried the simple fix with a 1157? and had the display tell me the light was out. Is there a simple fix for the non technical rider, other than live with the display????? Saddle_Bag:fingers-crossed-emo
  25. if the water pump leaks after you stop the engine.. does that mean you need a new water pump? or can you get the parts to fix it? is it simple to fix? does any one have one to sell? Curious minds NEED to know.. :crying::bang head: thanx..
