  1. So I got my shock air pump in today and went to add air the the shocks. It had zero in both front forks and rear shock. The rear pumped up to 30psi I'll try that and see how it is but the front forks will not pump up at all. What do you think is causing this? This sucks!!!! I have been ridding with no psi with my girl friend a total weight of around 325lbs and never had the rear bottom out. Should I run 30psi in it?
  2. Ive develpoed a gas leak. Noticed it today when I was under the bike listening to the collector rattle anf trying to decide what to do with that. The collector can wait. What I discovered was a gas leak at first what looked like it was fluid leaking from the rear shock. Pulled off the right side abs cover and can see the fuel leaking from somewhere above the rear shock and then running down the shock. Cant see where it is coming from though. It only leaks when the motor is running. Not sure if it leaks when the key is on but the engine is not running I will go check and edit the post as soon as I can. Anmy idea where to start or what will be the easiest way to get in there and see . Hopefully I can do this myself as it will have to sit if it needs to go to the shop. mONEY IS TIGHT WRIGHT NOW. aNY IDES WILL BE WELCOMED AND FOLLOWED UP. tHANKS IN ADVANCE, dAVID
  3. I need a lower shock bolt.. the long one that goes thru the bottom of the shock.. I was wondering if any one has one that they would be willing to part with.. i have all of the bushings but my bolt is stripped on the end where the treads are.. it is for an 86 venture royale..:smile11:thanx
  4. Anyone have an old rear shock (still in working condition) laying around not being used, from maybe a trike conversion. I need to replace the one on my '99 but I do not have $600 to spare right now. If i could find a used one that will get me by until I can come up with the cash for a new one, that would be great. I'm not asking for a hand out, I will pay a reasonable price for a used one. Can anyone help a brother out???
  5. Hi. I'm a proud owner of a new 09 RSV. Just bought it Friday. The owners manual has an obvious miss print. It say's the low setting is 0 psi, Mid is 0 psi and high is 7 psi. After taking the wife for a ride today, I know I need to bump the pressure up some what. The owners manual is no help and I found nothing in a search. Can someone please give the the minimum and maximum pressure for the rear shock. TIA MIKE
  6. After trying all searches I haven't come across an answer to my question so here goes. Since buying my 06 RSTD I've been running it with no air in the rear shock. We've ridden 2-up quite a bit on different roads and haven't bottomed out. The biggest advantage in running with 0 psi for me is that the bike is lower so my short little legs allow me to reach the ground easier. My biggest concern is that everybody seems to be running more than 20 lbs in the rear shock. I just re-read the manual which states: SPRING RATE: Minimum (soft): 0 psi Standard: 0 psi Maximum (hard): up to a max of 57 psi Does anybody run 0 psi in the rear??? Is there a negative other than bottoming out if running 0 psi??? Thanks Greg
  7. Time is coming, I feel, that a rear shock is going to be needed (what with 112,xxx miles). What are the aftermarket options?
  8. UPDATE: I FIXED MY CLASS PROPLEM!!!!! DON"T NEED PARTS NO MORE!!!!I want to convert from the CLASS System to schrader valves on mine, I need the hoses off of a Standard that air up the rear shock and front forks. If any one know of a better way to do a conversion Please let me know. Thanks BIG HACk
  9. Well, just got back from a great trip to Vogel and I see some oil coming from the rear shock. Couple of questions, am I correct that the material and labor should be covered by warranty, the bike is an 06 ? Second thing, would I be wise to remove the trailer hitch before the dealer sees it ?
  10. Ok well need little assistance guys. So my 99' has 69,000 on it and just last week i parked in the garage for few days because i had to drive to work. after about day 3 i noticed a small river running from underbike to garage door. so i checked it out and it looked like it was coming from the rear shock. I have heard this before that they go bad just all of a sudden. so i cleaned up the mess and check the air pressure in it. 0 it had so i filled it up to 40lbs and rode to work. when i went to leave work it still was hold at 40lbs. here we are on thursday and still 40lbs in it. should i be looking for a different leak back there or is it possible that it can hold air and still leak oil. HELP! i dont want to replace the shock if i dont need to.
  11. The rear shock on my 05 RSV will not hold air pressure for a full ride. I start out with 40# and after a days ride it is down to 20# or less. Is this normal? I have seen mention of oil leaking and I don't see anything dripping or wet. There is however a lot of grease buildup on the bottom of the shock. What should I test or look for to confirm a bad shock? What affect would a bad shock have on handling?
  12. Anyone who has "triked" their bike have a good used rear shock sitting around that you don't need? I think mine may be going bad.
  13. I got my new rear shock in and have a question. On the replacement shock there is an extra hose, where do you hang it? The old one lasted 90,000 miles I hope the new one does as good, wow are they proud of them $$$. Ride safe Rod
  14. If anyone has a take-off shock from the RSV that they would consider donating, please let me know. It will be analyzed and probably taken apart and I wouldn't expect it to be returned, but we may end up with a good alternative to the Works shock to replace the Yamaha OEM shock on the 2nd gens. It would be good to have another option, right? Anyway, I have a contact who has a suspension shop and he has done some great work building shocks for other bikes (Ducati, KLR650, DR650, SV650, and Honda TransAlp). He is located in North Carolina and is well respected in the road racing and dual sport community. This is a small family business and he rides and races bikes himself. I have one of his "moab" custom shocks on my KLR650 and I love it. Everyone who has one has nothing but praise for the work that he has done giving the 400+ pound pig some manners in the dirt. He can't promise anything, but when I talked to him about my failing shock and the replacement options (oem and Works afaik) we discussed the possability of him coming up with a replacement. He would need to examine an oem shock to determine what he can do and what he would recommend. I believe that if he was able to build a replacement, it would be a good one! There is also a chance he could come up with a modification or re-manufacturing process for the oem shocks. It all depends on him getting a look at the oem shock. Thanks! James
  15. I'm currently in SE VA on our weekend ride and I belive my rear shock has failed with 27,000 miles on it. With about 40 psi in the shock it will bottom our over the slightest dips in the road. I've already called my dealer and they have contacted Yamaha and have a new shock on order for me. Hope to have it installed next week. We're still able to ride but the bike doesn't seem to handle as well. Oh well!:crying: Dennis
  16. I have a 96 RSTD with a factory hydraulic shock.........with two up, and some gear for the weekend, the rear bottoms out.......I'm 6'4" and 280 wife is 6 foot and 200. So I don't know if anyone makes a performance shock, or I'd be better off with an air shock unit, and have found NO sources for modification other than o.e. replacment......any help?
  17. This is great dealing with my stealer. My rear shock started dumping oil this weekend annd after talking to my Stealer he said ( we can replace it but it takes most of the day and they have to remove everything rear of the gas tank to replace it ) Like I want them working on my Ride !!!!! I told them its a 30 min. job and nothing has to be removed but the saddle bag and the shock. I guess I need to show them how to replace one. I HATE DEALING WITH PEOPLE THAT DON"T KNOW HOW TO WORK ON THESE BIKES !!!
  18. Hey All, I was on ebay looking at the various mono rear shocks for different makes and models. The price they want New and Used for a 2nd Gen Rear Shock is Crazy. Does anyone knows if a shock made for a different bike will fit a 2nd Gen??? Does the RSV shock have to be air assisted or will a standard shock work? Yes mine needs to be replaced, all oil has leaked out, still holds air, but not wanting to go to far, especially two up, with it that way. Thanks, Later-

  20. Ive been look through the 1st Gen manual to see if there is a shrader valve attached to the rear shock on my '88 VR. Thought I would throw the questions out here. Is there a rear shock shrader valve and if so where is it located? The class on my '88 doesn't work. I've installed Progressives in the front forks and would like to be able to add air manually until I get the CLASS working. Dave
  21. Just got this email from Trimster. If anybody is in that area and can lend a hand, I'm sure he would appreciate it. I need some help if I could. I am in crisis mode and need some help on the road. I'm south of San Antonio, Tx with a blown rear shock on my RSV. I need to be back on the road Sunday headed home to Salt Lake City. Being as I can not post to the list, could you post something for me to the 2nd generation tech talk area? I need help with locating a shock and someplace to install it (I'm in an RV park with no tools, etc.).... or I need advice on a dealer to go to in this area. Your help is greatly appreciated. I can be contacted at 8zero1-44zero-eight 721 Big thanks Bob & Lisa Trim
  22. I'm hearing a squeaking noise when compressing the rear shock. I searched for any leak, but everything is dry for now. Not sure if it is the rear shock or a bushing making the noise I hear. I know the rear shock has been a weak point on the Second Gens. It has 25K miles on it so its probably about time. Its not a high pitch squeak, but more of a low pitch rubbing noise. Is this the shock about to go?
  23. We have a Fournales high pressure air shock, built for a Generation I bike with Watsonian double adult sidecar, cancelled order (cancelled when we discovered that the shock doesn't fit a Generation II bike!!). If anyone out there wants it at a good reduction from list price, let us know...... Contact steve@bikerevival.co.uk
  24. my dear YAMA BROTHERS here is a question that even the pros ( dealer) couldn't answear so i turn to my brothers. i have a 2003 midnight venture and i did the universal joint on in and when i remove the rear shock i also removed the air line attached to it and accidently spilled oil from inside the shock. does anyone know how much oil is in the shock or how much to put back in if the shock is completly empty thank you
  25. Hey All, over at a couple Harley Buds and we looked on the ground and the rear shock was leaking oil (and yes I was harrased, about how metrics leak oil). The rear end floats up and down like a bober when two up, especially over bumps. Question: Is the standard Rear Shock Rebuildable??? Thanks for your help, Later-
