  1. So, the wife and kids are gone for the weekend, and I decided to ride around town and do a few errands. Take the cover off the scoot, and put 'er into warmup mode. Start to get the gear on, which is only the helmet, gloves, and Venture Royale T-Shirt, 'cause it's just up around the corner. Now I get on the bike from the right side when it's leaning to the left on the side stand. Kinda look like an olympian running the high hurdles. Well let me tell you, I kick my left leg into the air and get it about halfway acrossed the seat and low and behold the right knee decides to crumple like a bag of cheap chips. So there I am madly grabbing anything I can to reduce the pending impact. It ain't gonna happen. I hit the pavement flat on my back like a big sack of potatoes. All I could see was blue. I thought I'd died and gone to the big guy in the sky. After laying there for a bit I realized that, yes, I was still amongst the living. I started taking inventory of all the body parts. The knee hurt like 'H'. The right elbow was scrapped and bleeding. The elbow woulda been OK if I'd had the Jacket on. I waited for one of the neighbors to come give me a hand. No one was around, so that was out. The scoot is still merrily chugging in warm up mode, the lower right fairing sticking about 6 inches out from where it normally attaches to the frame. I think I distinctly heard the scoot say something like 'Dummy'. So it reaches down and give me a hand to my feet. I stand there a bit, and decide, WTH, and put the helmet on, go to the left side of the bike, grab my pant leg and guide my leg over the saddle, go do the errands, come back to the house, pop 2 motrin and 5 aspirins, and sit in the reclioner the rest of the day. So much for working on the '91 while mama's gone.....
  2. can anyone let me know how there Hazards work on there bike, because my scoot the Hazards only work in the Key is on the on position, if I put the key to Acc they stop working so I would have to leave my scoot running while i'm on the side of the road which to me makes no sentce why would this be I will kill my battery this was. Also is there a way i can change this. thank you to all for your assistance.
  3. Hi everyone, Well I've been reading alot of articles here about fuel mileage, and I can't seem to beat 35.7. Now my wife has told me many times I am to heavy on the throttle and I do agree...most of the time she is right. So I have tried very hard to be easier on the throttle as of late,...gentle starts, no speeding, all that responsible riding stuff. OK I do admitt it did get better 38.2, still not what most are claiming(40-45). So Saturday being very windy I desided to sync the carbs. I sat down read all the steps involve in this procedure not to make any mistakes, then proceeded. I was shocked to find they weren't out of sync. Ok not really. The scoot has always run great, from the time I got it ,and now only having 4500mi on it, nothing done to it other than servicing. I guess I will just keep enjoying my ride. Well it was in the garage Sat. I decided to do another little project. I had seen a few others here had put lights on their scoots....and I really liked the way they looked. So I thought since I had some laying around I would try putting some on my scoot. Let me know what you think.
  4. I'M sitting here in the front of the Computer having a Few Beverages..(Hiccup)(be quite Beer30 and Redneck) And Thinking Im a loyal follower of this site,.( well havent been lately) Yes I dont have a scoot anymore And thinking (yes Squidley I do Think) And said to myself Is there anyone of my close friends from the Ventureriders willing to ride up here and pick me up and ride down to ralley with their scoots heaven 4 bid that its has to be a 2nd Gen (well it was not to bad on Midnightriders scoot) Just a Thought? ( of course I pay the individuals gas)
  5. Not my scoot... my truck!.. some SOB stole it. Parked it on the street this morning near where we catch the skytrain to downtown for work (as we always do). Got back at the end of the day... hmmmmmmmm... where's the truck?.. call the wife... "where did we park?" I say... yep... that's where I thought it was too... but it ain't there! Call the cops, check with towing co... definately it's been stolen!!! Even had a steering wheel club on it. GGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!! The inconvenience of this and extra costs involved might end up costing us our holiday trip to Los Osos waaaaaa Have an appointment with the insurance co Thursday... depending on what they'll give us for it...worst case scenario might have to sell the scoot just to replace the truck. One rarely comes out of these ahead of the game...especially when dealing with this govn't insurance rip-off specialists.
  6. Here I am trying to find out when Marcarls meet and eat is only to find out i have missed it by 2 weeks  . Sorry I didn't make it Carl I was really looking forward to it even if I didnt have a scoot to get there on.
  7. Was at the dealers last week and got to talking to an older gentleman, 55, about his scoot. He had it there for a licence certification for about 3 weeks and it seemed that it could go a little longer. He was getting impatient. He's a bit like me, only got his licence for 2 years, bought an older scoot and now wants to ride. Trouble was, his front forks were leaking bad and needed to be repaired, but he was afraid to do it himself because he hadn't done it before. Well I don't have that hang-up, if I haven't done it before now is the first time then. So, to keep this story shorter he called me on Tuesday and asked if my shop would be available and if I could stand by while he did the work. Seeing as the Wizard765's bike is all fixed and gone, I got room, so it's here. It's a 1980 GL 1100, in need of some tender loving care and maybe some upgrades to chrome from rust, but basically it's looks like a lot of elbow grease. He started by pulling off the forks and then I cleaned a little piece on the lower tubes. Well they look like brand new now. Course you just can't stop there, so you call in the troops. We should have this scoot on the road next week after the parts all arrive, new seals, springs, oil, ,,,,,, and oh ja ,,,,,,,tires!!!!!!!! Believe it or not, the front tire was a vintage for sure, manufactured by Dunlop 1973, and the rear was a lot newer,, 1990. He plans on making this a winter project and it should look real nice by next spring.
  8. A person could be washing their scoot after a beautiful two hour ride along the water. Then with soapy hands, this person could try to roll the bike ahead to finish washing the front wheel. Then, the kickstand could get caught on this person's jeans. Then, the soapy hands could slip and this person could watch with amazement as his scoot gently falls down!! I suppose this could happen........

    I Hate Wax !!

I went with Sharon to the store today...not optional, so was looking around at Wally's for bike stuff. I washed my all black scoot on a freaky 68* last Monday. Since wax melts off around here whenever scoot is in the sun, I looked at alternatives. This is the 5th black scoot I've had in a row & I'm real tired of constant cleaning + waxing. Most 'wax' goes on 'white'....and I really don't like that, either. Today, I got some Polymer Protective Coating, made by "Mothers" & is called FX or FK...can't tell, but it's CLEAR & supposed to be way better than wax. Cost about $6. for ~10 oz of clear liquid. Not supposed to melt away on a sunny day or leave any white spots. Sure looks good. Can't be any more useless than wax. Anyone know about this stuff??
  10. I was browsing around London Drugs yesterday ... lotta stuff on sale ... came across this ... http://store.xmfanstore.com/xpress.html Regular price $99 .... on sale for $29.95 !! Did I buy it... you betcha! ... Works great and looks good sitting there on my scoot. Anyone have experience with this product? I hope it's not some kinda DUD.
  11. Our local Yamaha dealer finally got a new venture on the showroom floor. We stopped yesterday and looked it over. It's gray ( not exactly my color ) but a very nice looking scoot. Normally he only stocked the goldwings as he is also a Honda and Suzuki dealer. Nice looking Hyabusa Suzuki setting beside it to. I'm still waiting on the 1800 V4 with FI.No plans for a new scoot until after I pay off some debt.

  14. This afternoon , I rushed home to remove my leather , seat and tank off in preparation of Muffinman's arrival to colortune my scoot . Only to find out I was the guinea pig ! This was Jeff's first 2nd Gen to castrate with the colortune . He jerked out my plugs , threw them across my garage , and I thought he tried to swipe one of my spark plugs , but it fell into the scoot where it couldn't be seen . I have never heard Jeff swear so darn much , knowing he was working on a 2nd gen to be able to pass a MKII 1st gen . Watch out now Todd ! As Jeff was throttling up my scoot to view the flame front , the exhaust out of my Baron 4-2-4's almost tipped over the blonde on which it was parked behind my scoot . I have never seen Salty run so fast to try to catch it from falling , while he was telling me that "Jeff sure does smell GOOD !". Jeff asked Salty if he wanted to colortune his next , and he replied " I take the fifth " . But the smell of Jeff made him hungrier , so Salty left towards home to go get pizza . After Salty left , Jeff and I started putting the scoot back together , leather and all and to clean up the floor full of tools . "What's this ?" I asked .. "Spare part" replied Jeff . 4 brass bullet like caps as to which he replied , "Less weight , go faster ! " . So now I understand why 1st gens are faster , because they loose parts ! Now the date has been set to colortune Tim261's scoot next ! Make sure you have a catch bucket nearby there , Tim ! The scoot sounds great with the exception that Jeff took over and tuned my XM to the Black Owl radio channel . (old timer's radio) Tomorrow will be the test to see if I can twist off the speedometer . BEER30
  15. Hey all, After the snow storm that hit us last week, we were all begining to think that spring would never get here. Well had to work yesterday, got to the freighter at 0700, still a little dark and cold out, got on board, up to the bowthruster room and down into the engine room. Put on the classic rock and got to it, by 1300 had run out of things to do, so decided to pack it in. Got up on deck and WOW ! What a beautiful day, +7 C/ 42 F, sunny and next to no wind. Raced home, chizzled the ice from in front of the garage, wheeled out the scoot, a quick charge to the battery while I showered, and fired her up. Got the gear on, and headed out for a ride, drove down to Milton, around town, then the clouds moved in, and headed home. Was laughing and smiling the whole time, got a number of looks like I'd lost my mind from the cagers, but like the song says, " if you don't ride, you don't know ". Can't wait for the real thing to finally get here. Oz
  16. stupid question , im at work ordering frilly stuff for the scoot are the levers on a second generation wide or tapered
  17. I'm seriously considering this, but am not sure of how effective they are. I know this was asked in the past, but has anyone had any experience with one of these? I really don't have the room for a flatbed trailer but this would be easy to store. My main concern is what prevents the scoot from going over when towing? I don't plan on towing the scoot for any great distance, but it may be nice to have for tows of a couple hundred miles or so, or for emergencies... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=016&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=260219854774&rd=1 Opinions, please.

  19. If anyone remembers, I sold my 86VR to a man in Germany & was looking e/where for a newer scoot. Wife & I got stranded on the scoot 4 times this year & it spent most of the season in the shop. We did make it to ES in Aug, though. Got a new scoot at a price I couldn't refuse. It's a 97 Honda Goldwing 1500 SE with custom paint, 21k miles, hitch & stinger + too many extras to list. Didn't cost much more than I sold my 86 for. Nav said 'newer' scoot...period. What do you think? Can I still be a member & hang-out with ya'll?
