  1. hi folks since i bought my motor tike rsv a couple of weeks ago. i was wondering if anyone else had this trike kit or am i the only one ? i've looked at the hannigan and tri-wing kits. these seam to be the most popular with the rsv bunch. reguards don c.
  2. Been looking at Goldwings and and the BMW K 1200 LT. Scratching my head. Don't know which one I like the most. My 08 RSV is sittin in the parking lot at work with a bad ignition switch. Waiting till Monday morning, then gonna load it on the trailer and take it to the Yamaha/Honda dealer to get it fixed. Also, needs the fuel level indicator fixed. Took the rear wheel off to grease the splines and noticed the rear shock has about a half inch or more of up and down play in it. Meaning, I can lift the swingarm up about a half inch, like something ain't right. Might be normal, I don't know. Gonna get them to check that, too. I'm not really that unhappy with the RSV, I just think there might be something a little bit better. I ride year round, and while I'm pulling out the choke lever, cranking up and warming up the engine, my buddy hops on his fuel injected Goldwing and rides away. Also, with factory heated grips and seat. I know some of ya have gone to Goldwings and like them. I had one in the early 80's and liked that one. I know they've changed a lot. What do ya think about the BMW K 1200 LT? Know where there's one at a reasonable price. Also, didn't say I was going to quit the web site. If Eck can ride a Goldwing to meet and eats, surely I can too (He, He). Besides, my best friend and cousin-in-law ride an RSV. Anyway, I value ya's opinion. Whatdoyouthink?
  3. Hello VR.org! I'm glad I found this site! I've been a long time member over at vtxoa.com, and I was hoping to find a similar board for the RSV. I'm seriously considering trading in my trusty X for an '07 RSV. After riding an Ultra, a couple Wings, and the Venture, I think the Venture fits me perfectly. I'm a little nervous about switching brands cuz I've been riding Hondas nearly 10 yrs., and I know what to expect from them. I've been performing all my own maintenance and repairs for years, but the Yamaha is a whole different ball of wax... I was hoping you guys could give me a heads up to potential and common problems to keep an eye out for with the RSV, maintenance schedules, and point me in the direction of good tech write-ups for the bike. I gotta tell ya I'm a little intimidated by the thought of dealing with 4 carbs... Any insight and advice would be very much appreciated. I'm looking forward to the bike, getting to know you folks, and soaking up the knowledge from the experts around here. Ride safe.
  4. Hello again everyone. I've been gone for a while, and thought I should share what's been going on. It's been a difficult couple of years, with good news and bad news. A few months before buying our RSV, my wife started having unexplained pain in her legs. It got worse and worse, and eventually she couldn't stand or walk for more than a couple of minutes. Unable to work, she lost her job. After 2 years and close to 100 doctor appointments and tests at multiple hospitals and other medical centers, we still have no diagnosis. We don't know what it is. We just know what it isn't. And without a root cause, there is no way to fix it. Anyway, that's the reason we've been missing and our riding was so limited, even before we went missing. The good news: We had a break through of sorts. We still don't know the cause of the pain, but one of the spine doctors suggested a specialized device to help mask the pain. She had the surgery about 3 months ago and is doing much, much better. We even went out on a couple of short rides on the RSV! The bad news is that I don't see Venture-type (longer) rides anytime soon. The RSV is spending most of it's life just sitting in the garage, and I don't know how long that will continue. So, we've decided to sell it. If things continue to improve, we might get something smaller in the spring just to do short rides, and hopefully we can meet up with the GA group again for breakfasts or lunches or something. We enjoyed your company and comaraderie very much in the times we've shared with you.
  5. I was wondering what you cruise at on the highway when you are touring? All state and provincial speed limits aside; what do you normally cruise at or what is the RSV capable of cruising at for sustained periods of time? I like to cruise between 130 and 140 kph on the superslab and about 120 130 on the secondary roads. Is the RSV capable of 160 kph+? That would be 100mph+ or is that really pushing it's limits? I guess my second question is passing. Do you have to down shift in order to pass comfortably and if so does she have enough grunt to get around traffic with ease? Thanks for your comments in advance.
  6. I'm considering adding a sidecar to my 2004 RSV so my son can ride with us. Does anyone have experience with sidecars and a 2nd gen RSV. If someone has pictures that would be great. Thanks and Merry Christmas to all.
  7. hi all just found a 1999 rsv thats been triked out with a motor trike kit. it has less than 18,000 miles on it. they want $15,000 for it. i know the engine not even broken in at those miles. shucks when i bought my '99 rsv it only had 21,000 miles on the clock. should i go for the $15,000 or offer them a lower price? reguards don c.
  8. Does anyone know the correct silver/gray paint color for the 2001 RSV cylinder head cover. tx, Bob
  9. partly sunny and 50F today. Supposed to be in the teens with s**w starting tomarrow. So, i'll be taking the three running bikes alternately out for a run today. I've been expecting the rear tire on the RSV MM to need changing ever since I came back from Potato Creek, but it hasn't quite got there yet. I have a new one waiting to go on.
  10. I was wondering if anyone noticed that their speedometer on their RSV is not accurate? I've noticed when I take my gps with me, my speedo is 5mph slower than what the gps says. I have an 08 RSV. Is that normal for this model bike?
  11. Hello, I recently purchased a 2004 RSV. My last bike was a Goldwing and my wife had arm rest on the back and she realy enjoyed them. She would like them on our RSV but I can't find many choices. Is Diamond R the only ones that makes them? If, so those of you that have them are you and your passengers happy with them? Thanks
  12. Any of you guys out there ever fitted a tank bag to your mount? Having traded my Pan European in for my 2000 RSV I was left with a brand new Baglux bag but no way of getting a tank bag cover for it to fit on (Baglux don't make one for an RSV). I've tried to see if anything else in the Baglux range might fit ie Kawa, Suzi etc but no luck. Any ideas?
  13. Took the RSV for a ride this afternoon so I could really go for a ride...
  14. http://www.kcra.com/r/25795718/detail.html Well now it's motorcycle related. There's even an RSV out in front.
  15. I swear I have searched throught here and not found how to adjust my idle. How do I adjust my 2006 RSV idle? Thanks.
  16. Hi, Well I got my new to me 2004 Midnight Royal Star Venture home this afternoon from Calgary, AB to Red Deer, AB. Wow! Do I love this bike. I had forgotten how much I enjoy the RSV. There was no owners manual with it but I downloaded the PDF owners manual from here. Thank you very much for that. I have a question. This bike has heated grips. The person I bought the bike from didn't install them. Are they stock or would they have been installed by the original owner? I didn't think the RSV had heated grips. Thank you in advance.
  17. Over the years, I've seen posts from several people who have claimed that the top speed on their RSV is about 90 MPH. I've never understood that and am now wondering how many here have bikes that top out around that speed. What got me thinking about this was that over the past months my bike was not running well. A couple of weeks ago, I opened it up and found that 90 MPH was all it would do. Now I had had mine to close to 120 MPH in the past so obviously something was wrong. Unfortunately, I got frustrated and took somewhat of a "shotgun" approach to the problem and so don't know just exactly what corrected my problem. I changed plugs but had done that before so I know it wasn't the problem. I also changed my number 3 coil which I think was breaking down under load. I pulled the carbs and reset the floats. One was a bit high. I also suspect that the air box was not seated good on top of at least one of the carbs. The bottom line is that when I was done, I took it out again and it runs like I knew it should. Acceleration is very strong and I took it up to about 112 and it was still climbing pretty good. I have the Speedohealer so that is true speed. I was later talking to my friend Bob Dakin and he told me that his Midnight Venture has never run faster than about 90 since the day that he bought it. I am convinced that there is a problem with his and he is going to come over one day soon so that we can figure it out. How many of YOU have the same problem? If your bike tops out under 100 MPH, I am sure that there is a problem and I don't think it would be that difficult to figure it out.
  18. Hi, I am looking at purchasing a 2004 Midnight Black RSV. I am wondering if anyone has had their bike dynoed and what HP is actually measured on the rear wheel? Yamaha says 98 but that is at the crank. Its a shaft drive so I figure minus give or take 20% so let's say 70 to 74 HP actual? Thanks Chris in Red Deer, Alberta
  19. Hi everyone, Well I bought a used 04 Midnight Black RSV today. I previously owned a 2001 and I'm glad to have one once again. I look forward to talking with you folks once again.
  20. does anybody know where i can get the wire diagram for a 2006 RSV radio and AMP?
  21. My '07 RSV won first place at the Penelope hhouse bike and car show a couple weeks ago. I forgot to post about it. That was first place overall. '07 RSV was the only non HD in the show.
  22. I've got stubby little arms to go with my stubby little legs, so I'm going to need to move the bars back a little closer when I get my RSV. Has anyone here tried these? They look pretty cool. http://www.jpcycles.com/product/ZZ50825?N=2757835&results=100
  23. Hello I am new here and do not currently own a RSV....but am looking to buy one. Do the 1999-2010 RSV have a rev limiter? I thought that you could only get a rev limiter on a fuel injected bike. I guess if the limiter is hooked to the ignition then it is possible. Please let me know about this.....It would save me alot of money not having to buy a 250.00 tach set-up. Thank you....Bret Holland
  24. After 10 years and 135K mostly trouble free miles on my RSV I finally decided to replace her a few weeks ago with an 08 Wing. There were a few things that I wanted to do to the RSV before I put it up for sale. The CB hasn't worked right for years and the cruise control seemed "weak" but I never used them anyway, so wasn't to concerned at the time and let it go. Thought I had better see if I could get them working better for the next owner. Short story is that three weeks ago I put the bike in my shop and started tinkering with it, getting things cleaned and fixed up. Changed oil, plugs, etc. Went down there this morning to do a couple things (getting out of the house mostly) and guess what...the rear shock has puked all over the floor!!! Just setting there! I guess this is revenge from the old girl for replacing her with a newer model. Had a wife like that once. Anyone interested in a great running 99 RSV that still needs work, pretty cheap?
  25. I'm loving the new-to-me RSV, but I'm having an issue with storage for my sunglasses, garage door opener ect. I've considered taking the cassette out and turning that space in a storage compartment, but I would also like a set of Ponch's gauges. What are my other options?
