  1. starting to get to work on my annual st. charles meet may 7th, 8th, and 9th, 2oo9. i have added an extra day this year to make it worth the ride for people who have to come a long way. i have 2 great rides planned for each day with a big barbeque at my house the last day after the ride. lots of historic sights to see, on both rides. we have casino's near the host motel for those who like to play the slots, and harrahs is near by. as soon as i get the host motel info i will fill in the details. hope to see the old faces and a bunch of new ones this year. see you there. bill :clap2:
  2. There are some fantastic rides on the Peninsula. Port Angeles is the pivot point for most of the rides here. Perfect riding weather from mid May to October 1st - low 60's to low 80's daytime - low 50's to hi 60's nighttime - far enough North daylight hours from 430 am to 1030 pm june - july. Port Angeles is jump off point for ferry to Vancouver Island and Victoria BC, Great rides on Vancouver Island, plenty of Cutters needed summer inland though, damn skeeters. My house is outside of Port Angeles on side of a mountain over looking Strait of Juan de Fuca and Vancouver Island across the water, plenty of room with acerage for tent campers, can board in house as well, couple of extra bedrooms and loads of floor space. Large Hot tub to soothe those iron butts and decent shop to tinker on scoots or if needed major work. Wife and I love company and lots of friends wander in and out during summer "doing the Peninsula" all are welcome. Please this is not an insincere invite, feel free to give us a call and come see some great riding country with what we hope you'll feel some decent hospitality from us. You'll meet a lot of folks here from all over this area, just might make some lifelong friends, great bunch of folks show up around here all summer. BBQ'n most every night NW style with fresh Dungies, salmon, ling cod and halibut. Open invite all summer - come one come all. Bull & Suzanne
  3. Thanks for the welcome y'all. I hail from "sunny" NW - Port Angeles, WA - great riding country just always pack your wet gear. ALWAYS looking for riding bud's and will join most any road trip, especially fond of the really important one's - like that 800 mile round trip for the BEST ribs on the planet in Spokane, WA out by the old Air Force air strip. Hobby in the winter is scouring Craig's list, and other venues for the older, classic or soon to be classic rides for those fixer bikes, bringing them home to my shop and giving them a new life. The rest of my time is spent fishing and riding. Give me a shout, let's go for a ride or hook up in the shop and skin some knuckles. 4. i just recieved a pm from a member wanting to know what kind of events will take place at the 09 rally in arkansas. so rather than just tell him, i thought i would post on here for people who have never been there. first off the area we will be in is some of the most beautiful and best riding country in the usa. since we are expecting such a large turn out we will have maps available for various rides so people can group up and go sight seeing on there own. eureka springs is about 40 miles away and is one awesome tourist area.there is so much history and unique things to see in the old town area. the hub where the host motel is is a motorcycle resort with a nice motel, restaurant, meeting hall and is the starting point for many good rides away from town. the hub motel is full of our people exclusively and the resort will be ours for the meet duration. there are motels listed in nearby harrison ,9 mile from the hub, and they are listed under rides and rallies. we will be in the heart of the arkansas hill country and the scenery is unblievable. bring your cameras the picture taking is endless. we will be close to beaver lake, taneycoma, bullshoals, and branson is a nice day ride for anyone wanting to head up there. as for shopping the area is a shoppers paradise. you could spend days in eureka springs alone. there are ferry rides, eateries, and craft and antique shops everywhere. i could go on and on and not cover half of the things to do. if anyone else who knows the area wants to chime in and elaborate on the stuff i have missed or forgot. please do so this will be a big help to the folks that are trying to decide whether or not to make it next year to hopefully the biggest event the venture riders have ever had. we are expecting a record turnout for this one so we are giving it our all. any questions chime in and some one on the site will have an answer if i don't. looking forward to meeting alot of new people and seeing my old friends. bill
  5. This last weekend Moto 400 (Dawsonville GA) sponsored the Triumph factory Demo Rides. I went there Sunday and rode three of the bikes: the Rocket III Touring, the Scrambler, and the Tiger. I somewhat enjoyed the Scrambler, really enjoyed the Tiger, and was overwhelmingly impressed with the Rocket III! That is one incredibly smooth, incredibly powerful machine; it has great throttle in all gears and, for a heavy bike (almost 800 lbs), was surprisingly easy to handle. 86er also rode this bike, so he will hopefully chime in and offer his opinion! For any of you that live anywhere near this dealer, they are having Star demo rides on all models this weekend. It might be a good time to try the Raider on for size... Terry
  6. http://venturerider.org/forum/images/icons/icon1.gif They just about skipped GA Given the omissions of great rides that aren't included in the official publication by the Department of Transportation. I think it would be a good idea if the VentureRiders put out our own diffinative tour guide of all of the great rides all over the country. We have enough members to cover a good part of the world. Each of us could submit write ups of our own favorite rides in our home states, provinces and countries. they could then be compiled into a publication that could be sold through the internet and the proceeds could be used to support the Venturerider.org forum. What do yall think?
  7. Hey folks...I finally got part 3 edited and uploaded to the podcast site. This is the episode where Bob, Atlanta Dragonslayer finds a body in New Mexico, and reports it to the State Police. He has a problem with a rear tire, and manages to find one in Tucumcari NM. Next, he rides into Amarillo where I met him and we ran around taking in some scenery and meeting some locals. Then he heads off to Atlanta on a 1000 mile Iron Butt Run! http://www.venturepodcasting.com Click on 'Podcasts'

What do yall think? Is this something that would be suitable to undertake? If so? Would it be suitable to ask for a committe of volunteers to organize? I'll participate on a organizational level. What would it take to develop a form that could be used on the site for the members to be able to use to submit in a uniform format write ups of rides in thier home areas. A form that might include specific information about a particular route such as : Start point, route, points of interest, map reference, Road type, and riding style Mountain twisties, pastural meanduring, challenging or not total miles, estimated ride time suggested dining and lodging brief write up regarding topography, geography, landscape, floral and fauna seasonal information finish point. It was my thought that if all submissions were done in a uniform format they would then be easier to compile into a publication format. The groupings of submissions could be by country, region, state, area of state , local.
  9. For those that don't know here is a great place you can "MAP" out a planned trip. It is great for setting up group rides and you can use it to determine where you will need to gas up and where you need to turn to get to that "twisty" road your dying to ride. You can save the rides and share them with friends etc. http://rideplanner.harley-davidson.com/rideplanner/ridePlanner.jsp?locale=en_US Enjoy,
  10. Got out for a great ride today. Last weekends colour ride was nice but cool, so with the warm temps we decided to trace some of the roads we were on. Definetly ONE of the best rides for the 08 riding season. Sun was shinning bright and the colours were much Brighter than last weekend. Started out a tad cool with a little fog (on the highway) but warmed up quickly. After 745 km we got home just as it was getting dark. I am afraid to say that this may be one of the last big rides for this year but had a great day with just Rhonda and I will remember this one. PS yes I forgot the camera but I will remember with out photos. Brad
  11. Hi, does anyone have the step washer for the back wheel that goes between the wheel and the caliper bracket, and the washer that goes between the caliper bracket and the swing arm!! desperate to get in a few more rides before snow fall. thanks Gord
  12. since all the members are going have input on our meet this year i am going to keep you informed every so often on whats happening on our planning committee. we have had a lull in the planning due to some personal mishaps and bringing a busy riding season to an end. after the st. jude ride we are going to start kicking butt again and cindy who is incharge of registration along with black owl will be getting the registration fee together and start taking registrations. since this is going to be a very big meet. we need all you folks to plan ahead so we can figure attendence numbers for the t-shirt orders and planning for the final dinner. the 60 rooms at the hub are full and we are starting to fill motels in nearby harrison. here's what we have so far. we are going to have maps available so groups can get together and plan individual rides. there will be to many bikes for planned rides for the whole group. we are going to have a catered final dinner in the awesome hall that we have available. we are going to have vendors on site inside the airconditioned hall. danob11 is incharge of the vendors . blackowl has suggested having skilled riding games so we will be working on that. rose bud is working on name pins for all the people who register, that are really neat so we know everyones name. don freebird has come up with an awesome logo for your t-shirts, and name pins that you will get with your registration. buddy is handling the motel accomodations and has a list of them on the site. roadkill is working on the raffles and i think we are going to raffle off a trailer again. colesgrandpa is working on the rides and ride maps. dooder1 and i are bringing up the rear and working on the food and all the junk that no one else is working on. members of the committee have been to the hub and they are working with us to make this one great meet. we have a great group working on this and i can't thank them enough. squidly and don freebird are on board to keep me out of trouble and make sure we don't forget anything. we have a few neat things in the works that i will let out down the road if they work out. anyone who has any ideas to make this meet any better. email me and we will take them into consideration. like i said this is your meet and we want it to be the best and most enjoyable ever. bill
  13. What I'm looking for is something so my wife and I can chat if we so desire. The problems is that we ride on two different bikes. Are there any options out there that will allow us to talk to each other. She rides a Honda Shadow 1100 so the cb is not even an option. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance David
  14. i know it's early, but now that the eureka springs meet is behind us and i have a little rest from the initial set up of the 2009 international rally, i am starting to work on the best st. charles meet and eat of all times. the last three were awesome so i decided to make this one a regular 2 day meet with two great rides. one being to historic hannibal mo. and the other to herman, mo. to visit a neat little german town and the wineries. both are tremendous rides of about 200 mile round trip. it will be some time in may or early june. just want to let everyone know so you can keep the calender open. i try to schedule it so it does'nt interfere with dons maintenance day. i will have motels listed ,and for those that like to gamble like cindy and dale, they are near the river boats. last years meet and eat was awesome, and i had so much fun i thought i would try to double it. i am going to have a big barbeque for the grand finally at my house, same as last year. best part it is all free. looking forward to seeing a bunch of you folks. bill :clap2:
  15. OK guys and gals. I've got another "Newbie" question. This time it's about "Charity Rides". I've only had my bike a couple of months now and apparently missed out on such a ride today, and this got me to thinking. I think i might actually like to participate in such a ride, but have absolutely no idea about how they work or what's involved. How 'bout it? Anybody wanna learn me about charity rides?
  16. I have off this weekend anyone planning any rides for this weekend from Michigan? Joe

    book for road trips

Is a publication, like a book, or mag, or something like that that gives ideas for 1-day bike trips for PA or for other areas? Right now I can't break away for longer rides, but want to take a series of day rides from the house. I know how to look at a map - just wondering if someone has put together different routes for different areas.
  18. Are there any North Texas rides being organized over the Labor Day weekend? Any info regarding this subject would be highly appreciated. I for one would just love to join if the starting point is anywhere near Dallas/Fort Worth. Or is anyone interested in quickly organizing something?
  19. won't be long before the 08 eureka springs ar. meet, sept 10th thru the 13th. it is going to be a good one and probably the last one. fantastic rides, even going to stop by the hub for dinner. lots of good folks will be there. any late comers that need info we have a sticky under rides and rallies. for those planning on coming we are having a drawing for the guys and gals, so if you would like to donate a small item for the drawing that would be fine. this meet is totally free , no registration. so all you need is food and gas. i think the host motel is totally full but there is a load of motels and eaterys in the immediate area. looking forward to seeing my old friends and lots of new ones. we have some great rides planned. even though there is a no helmet laws in arkansas bring helmets cuz we may do some riding in missouri, and they have a helmet law. bill
  20. We're getting for our trip to the Black Hills in SD the first of next month, and looking for a place to stay round Deadwood. We would like to stay at a smaller Family owned Mom & Pop place close to Deadwood. Does anyone know of such a place in the area? Looking forward to all the great rides and sights that I have read and heard about. Thanks for any help you can give me. BigD
  21. I have found a recessed trailer hitch for my '08 RSTD. (About $160.) I have seen some of you with a rack that attaches to the trailer hitch to hold coolers or small luggage. Where did you get these or did you make them yourself. I'm looking for something to use on my out of state rides. Thanks!
  22. for all those who don't know, we have the 2009 arkansas rally info listed under rides and rallies now. here's a quick up date. all the rooms at the hub are full. there is a list of motels and camping areas that buddy has compiled under the rides and rallies forums.the overflow motels are in harrison arkansas about 8 miles from the hub. we will be posting up dates on a regular basis as we have new info. bill
  23. Well it's time for our annual couples trip, best friend and his wife and us. This year we have rented a house outside Ferryville, Wisconsin. I've heard there are nice roads in almost any direction you head out. Also looks like its going to be some HOT weather. Anyone from that area recommend any particualr rides or places to visit? Thanks, Jay
  24. Ok folks for those that are attending, we have come up with some guided rides for each of the four days. Not to say you can't go and explore on your own.
