  1. Hello again everyone. I've been gone for a while, and thought I should share what's been going on. It's been a difficult couple of years, with good news and bad news. A few months before buying our RSV, my wife started having unexplained pain in her legs. It got worse and worse, and eventually she couldn't stand or walk for more than a couple of minutes. Unable to work, she lost her job. After 2 years and close to 100 doctor appointments and tests at multiple hospitals and other medical centers, we still have no diagnosis. We don't know what it is. We just know what it isn't. And without a root cause, there is no way to fix it. Anyway, that's the reason we've been missing and our riding was so limited, even before we went missing. The good news: We had a break through of sorts. We still don't know the cause of the pain, but one of the spine doctors suggested a specialized device to help mask the pain. She had the surgery about 3 months ago and is doing much, much better. We even went out on a couple of short rides on the RSV! The bad news is that I don't see Venture-type (longer) rides anytime soon. The RSV is spending most of it's life just sitting in the garage, and I don't know how long that will continue. So, we've decided to sell it. If things continue to improve, we might get something smaller in the spring just to do short rides, and hopefully we can meet up with the GA group again for breakfasts or lunches or something. We enjoyed your company and comaraderie very much in the times we've shared with you.
  2. First let me wish you all a very 'MERRY CHRISTMAS" from Taters and myself. I personally want to thank all of you for being part of my extended family. I want to thank the NY gang for putting up with me and for all the help throughout the year with with my annual rally and for their contributions in making ALL our rides and meet and eats a success. (this includes my friend north of the border !). Taters and I have made some truly wonderful everlasting friends here...From all the wonderful people we have met at MD, our rides and m&e's, thank you for being such a joy to be around.. If I have ever posted anything that offended you I am truly sorry, that was never my intent and I ask your forgiveness...Sometimes my fingers type faster than my brain works...Freebird what can I say, did you ever realize the impact you would have on peoples lives when you started this forum? I don't think so...So again "THANK YOU ALL" for being such great friends, for making me laugh when I'm having a bad day, for making me cry when I think I'M going thru hard times, for reminding me what true friendship is all about, and for humbling me with all your acts of kindness toward each other...GOD BLESS YOU ALL...
  3. Yea!! Got my new Works Shock yesterday, mailed them my Bank Money Order on Dec.3 and received the shock on the 16th. pretty good turn around I think!! Now I just need to pick a week end to install it, looking like next week though, just have to much going on to do it this week end..but can`t wait to see how it rides.
  4. I looked at a web site posted by "Hunter 1500" about the Guardian bells and found this verse at the bottom of the page, I thought it put into perspective why each of us rides, not just Venture's but any motorcycle and should....for those who did not see it...be shared. We are all family Ian http://www.moccsplace.com/images/gif/twinkle.gif Our lives each touch a chord with all we encounter. That chord sounds out in a song that plays only a memory of times passed by. So sweet the passage of time, so bitter the memories of people passed by. We have but one life, and no matter how good or bad, we have the ability to shape the lives around us. In our own worlds we are miles apart, separated by our beliefs, our understandings, and our view on our world. The tides that bind us is friendship and common bonds that sweep forth and turn the tides that ravage human kind. We are connected in a single effort to belong together, and be a family of bikers. On our steeds we are set free, the problems of the world no longer apply. We find our peace, and each other. It is on the road we search, and our steeds take us far. We gather those who would accept us, and pass by those that will not. We share our love of riding, and our pain of loss. Each of us carries the scars left by a world not so understanding, but through all we endure we have each other. If you accomplish no more than this you have touched my life and made one person feel not so alone. You have given me a family that I never had, and welcomed me faithfully. I may be different from every one else, but truly on the road we are all brothers and sisters. Keep your rides safe, and let us meet and share a toast to new friendships, and better rides ahead. No one is the least in our band, no one, is rejected, when we are cruising together. --Mike Burnham "DrMikeRB"
  5. we just got back from deals gap, rode the skyway and everything back there. we have been there eight times thru out the last three years. i always look for fellow venture rides where ever we go, but this weekend there had to be twenty thousand bikes around that mtn. only seen one venture? mostly HD and goldwings.my so call riding buddys always make fun of the lack of ventures we see. there goldwingers and always try to get me to change over. there nice bikes but not comfortable for me. but i do fell like im the only one sometimes. was any of you venture rides in that area, first or 2nd generation. surely i was not alone.
  6. does,nt look like i'm getting a whole lot of response on the meramec state park meet. it's only a month away. if any one is coming for sure, or thinking about it let me know and rsvp on the calender. if we don't get enough for a meet. i will have to cancel it. i don't want to go through the prep mapping rides, etc., if no one is coming. i took 2 weeks vacation and will make other plans. it will be a great meet but we need folks to attend.
  7. Just wondering how many board certified EMT's we have here at Venturerider..........It would be especially good to know we have one around at any meet or rides, just in case the unexpected happens.........
  8. to all of you who attended the 2010 Internatuional at Potato Creek, a big Thank You for coming and making this a success. To those of you who stepped up and helped out with planning, the dinner, helping me lead the different groups on rides, an even bigger Thank You! Sue and I have met a lot of Ventureriders over the past 4 years, we count many of them as great friends. We made more of those in the last few days. This rally may not have been one of the best organized or structured but there was some great comraderie there. We got to spend more time with people we'd only met briefly once or twice. The rides turned out good, the food was good and the ice cream was great, especially at Oink's. But the people were the greatest part of this. It was our honor and priviledge to host this event and to show you a little of our area of the country. Again, thanks to all, we had a great time. And YES, I'm glad it's done. As Snarley Bill told me, it's a big job and takes a lot out of you, but it is very rewarding. Looks like everyone is making it home safe. We'll see you all somewhere down the road.
  9. THE QUEST FOR MORE POINTS IN THE "SEE THE USA WITH THE AVA" CONTINUES.. HERE IS BRIEF SHOW OF OUR LAST RIDES! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTrAH93yaIc]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTrAH93yaIc[/ame] PHILL
  10. For anyone in the North GA area, Moto 400 in Dawsonville will be having their annual Triumph Demo Rides next weekend. I personally love to test-ride bikes and the opportunities around here are frequent. This year, regrettably, there will obviously be no Buell rides at Two Wheels Only, but it won't be long before the KTM weekend comes up on the radar! http://www.moto400.com/ TERRY
  11. Yamaha North Texas on hwy I 35 in Lewisville is having their "Get Out & Ride Open House this Saturday" Just wondering if anyone from North TX is planning on going? They are advertising free rides, food etc
  12. Well I've jumped in and did it again. I've been looking for something small just to tool around town on or maybe a short ride after work when I get a few minutes to do so. So when I was down at the local Yammy shop I saw an 09 650 V-STAR MIDNIGHT CUSTOM. I couldn't pass it up. I'll still have the RSMV for those longer rides and when the gal goes with me. It's a fun little bike to ride. I've ordered a windshield and highway bars for it to start with the safety chroming. And yes there are pictures in my gallery.
  13. Hey David, how close are you to Waldorf Md. I may need someone to check out this 1st gen for Chris. You've met him at my M&Es. He rides the Roadglide but wants a cheap 1st gen to keep at work in OK. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=46245
  14. every morning, and sometimes, late afternoon, I see this Black Mid-Night, coming out of the Hallandale Motorcoach park, In Hallandle Florida. I know, its one of our Canadian Friends. He rides with a guy with a Harley. anyone from here?
  15. Buzman sent me this pic that his wife found of my 86 VR and my kids. Thought I would share. Should have said this was an old pic. He rides a sportster now and she rides a Yam 650 twin.

  18. Its been 10 years today since my lovely wife said I do. I cant believe shes kept me around this long. Just wanted to toot my own horn . 10 years together and she rides her own bike too. As I said I;m a lucky man. LOve babe David
  19. Can someone please tell me who it is that sells the deflectors to keep the wind off the knees? Winter is coming and they could come in handy for those cold rides. Thanks....... Art
  20. During our all day rides on hot days, my backside sweats quite a bit. I am convinced that it is from the Vinyl on the seat. My Back also sweats alot where the backrest rides. I do not sweat in my Truck which has Leather seats. So, I am thinking about having my seats on the bike redone in Leather. Has anyone here done this? Do you think it would help? I know I could use beads or Sheepskin, I just don't want the hassle. craigr
  21. Renne

    Ho Hum....

I just noticed the sun has once again slipped between the south corridor of trees on the property shooting a narrow path of sunlight across the prairie grass, a sure sigh of coming color changes. The apples are ripening, although few, I guess I'll leave them for the deer. I'm not ready for the fuel oil bill although it appears we'll pay less this year ($4.20gal last Jan). Time to change oil in the car and truck, tune up the plow, move all the "yard art" out of the way. Maybe spend the rest of the fall doing "color rides" on the bike. Make some thick hardy soup.......and CHILI ! Maybe sign up for NETFLEX, enjoy the new 55in flatscreen/surround sound w/ lotsa popcorn. Wait for the sun to slide back to a more acceptable arc above the peak of the house.... OH WHY OH WHY DO I LIVE IN MINNESOTA ?,,,,,,,,maybe it's the air....... Renne
  22. Barb and I are planning on going to Laporte MN next weekend for the Pork in the Pines Pig roast & rides. Does anybody have a list of which motels would be the best? Thank You, Frank
  23. We made it home from Vogel about 3:00, got everything unloaded but not sorted out, that will come. I just want to thank everyone who came out to support our St. Jude effort, dont have a final figure yet I will be tallying that soon and posting it. I also want to thank all those that pitched in and helped with the rides, picking up downed bikes( only 1), carb syncs, everything mechanical, giving rides to little old ladies, not once but twice, food servers, those that donated door prizes, just a great bunch of people., But most of all I need to apologize to someone very special to me, I forgot to thank the most important person in my life, and that is my wife Charlene, while at the shelter I thanked a lot of people openly and forgot my loving wife, so, Thank you for all your support Charlene, I couldn't have done it without your support, I love you and thank you for putting up with me................
  24. Over the last few weeks I and roughly 15 riding friends have been doing night rides. We group up at 8PM,gas up,and head out. Needless to say the rides have been great. Very relaxing, little traffic, and much better temps to ride in. I have noticed that all of us tend to ride at lower speeds than we do during daylight hours as well. Granted the scenery is diminished but other than that it is still good riding! Most of our ice cream stops are open until 11PM so that's an added plus. Anybody else here doing the same thing? Comments welcomed. Boomer.........racking up the miles day and night here.
  25. I have never done this before so I hope it works. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=5518&id=1820937655&l=3fe3ed09e0
