    Radio Flyer

Got this in an email and had to share... http://www.ktuu.com/news/ktuu-radio-flyer-car-092910,0,1784245.story
  2. This is driving me nuts! I went out for a short spin today and all was good. The radio was loud the sun was shinning and the traffic was light. Then it happened. I hit a small bump in the road (cuz they aren't as smooth as glass in Niagara), and my radio went into seek mode. It flipped to a new station and then moved onto the next station. It did this for quite a while. Obvious to me I have a short somewhere but I'm not sure where to start. I was thinking about opening up the left handle bar control to clean it. Any thoughts on this? Anyone? Thomas
  3. my new warranty replacement radio has started to cut out and come back on when I hit sharp bump (bridge expansion joints, pot holes, fallen over HDs) The audio will cut out and come back right away, and I noticed that the LCD display on the controller will also blip off and back on. I've checked all my harnesses again but the problem still seems to come and go depending on the bump I hit.. Is this common enough so to not worry about or might there be something 'jiggly' inside the radio itself that might be doing this?
  4. Just was not my day today. Got a call from the owner of the repair shop where I dropped of my semi to have some work done. He said someone had broken into some of his trucks and also got into mine. Now on top of them busting out driver side glass to get in they stole my GPS,Laptop, truck manuals,TV vcr radio combo went through all my stuff and get this THEY TOOK ALL MY T-SHIRTS AND SOCKS BUT LEFT MY UNDIES NOW GO FIGURE. :rotfl::rotfl: Now I have to call dispatch and have my load picked up and deliver it to Wi. another week with out work and money DANG.
  5. I just purchase 1992 Venture Royale which has the cb that will not come on. The lights work but no number appear, and can not get any sound from the radio. It will not change channels with the unit or with the handle bar controls
  6. Hi Guys, Does anyone know of a nice replacement radio for the old unit. Mine is not working in my 84. I just can't see spending all the time and money to try to chase down, repair and or replace this old system with more old parts. Doesn't anyone make a nice motorcyle sterio system with an intercom that can be retrofit into the bike????? Thanks for any ideas John
  7. Does anyone know the Clarion model numbers for the radio mcu and cassette player on a second generation Venture? I am to old, slow and tired to pull the fairing for a look see. So I am hoping someone knows the numbers. I am trying to locate Clarion service manuals for them. Thanks Mike
  8. Looking hard at a new 665 to replace both existing nuvi and xm radio. Question is: Do I need a "hard connect" between the 665 and bike (though AUX input?) OR will it transmit directly through the Yamaha FM radio as I do with my existing XM radio? If I need a connecting cable, does it come with the unit or ? THANKS!
  9. Hello Everyone, Just got my 1983 yamaha Venture last night. the bike is Very clean I will post pics soon. The Issue I need help with is the Sony radio the power is on it searches switches to all the modes but no sound. the first time I turned it on I heard the little pop on sound through the speakers but now I don't even here that . the guy I got it off of siad it worked but he never used it. it's almost like it muted but it doesn't show that on the screen. there is a scan button on the laft handle bar and it also seams to work but I don't see anything about a mute on it either. no static no sound any thoughts anyone??? Thanks Mike
  10. I'm going to replace the FM radio antenna on my '86 VR with a totally different kind of amplified antenna. So, I'm getting rid of one antenna mast. Ok, so the question is when I followed the antenna lead up under the seat and the false tank cover I found the weirdest collaboration of splitters and antenna cables I have ever seen. Does anybody know the reason for the splitter? I would rather just connect it straight to the antenna input at the radio, would that cause any issues?
  11. Does anyone have a diagram of the insides of the radio handlebar switch, the one on the post just above the left hand grip that controls the 'Mute' and 'Search' operations. Even a list of what parts are inside would suffice because I removed mine to try to find out why it was not working properly and when I took it apart there were some funny sounds as everything went six ways to Sunday and I don't know how many parts I should be trying to find. Many Thanks.
  12. Any help appreciated the radio on my 08 RSV locks up randomly - can't change stations or enen shut it off for that matter. Only thing that will do anything is the volume dial. Until I pull into the dealers lot and park then works normal! Frustrating! Ken!
  13. I was just wondering if I am the the only RC Heli nut on this site. IRCHA is the International Radio Controlled Helicopter Association. This is a HUGE event held in Muncie Indiana at the AMA grounds, 5161 E. Memorial Dr., Muncie, IN, 47302. It is the Biggest radio controlled event in the world. Last year there was over 900 pilots (more expected this year) and vendor row was almost a half mile long. The things that some of these guys (and gals) can make a heli do are simply amazing, you would swear that they are breaking at least a few laws of physics. I will be there from Aug 11 - 15, You can find me in the SWARM tent. It might make for an interesting day trip if you are in the area. Hope to meet someone from VR there.
  14. My bike was missing the antenna for the radio, I don't have a garage for my bike, it gets covered with a nice cover, I needed an antenna, here is what I did. I went to autozone and bought a power boosted flat antenna, its designed for use on a windshield or the side of a boat, its self adhesive in three places, its held on through some pretty good temps so far this summer and works amazingly well. I utilized the right saddle bag as the location for the antenna.I located it on the door at its widest point. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/Touched1/PICT0004.jpg I drilled a 1/2 inch hole at the back ledge of the bag to run the power wire and the antenna cable through. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/Touched1/PICT0005.jpg I utilized the back of the lock as a ground. Installed the switch with the others, you may notice that the CB has been taken off the bike and new left cover has been fabricated to hold the class and cover the overflow. The red switch is for the radio antenna booster the other switches are running lights and rear light bar lights. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/Touched1/PICT0001.jpg It took me about and hour, cost 25.00 and I now have a great radio signal just about everywhere I go, no problem with garaging my bike under a cover. and a nice clean looking view to the back of my ride. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/Touched1/PICT0010.jpg
  15. I am looking at purchasing an '83 without a radio. How difficult are they to install. Are there speakers in the 83 by default, just no radio. This bike is stock, not Royale. Thank you.
  16. Does anyone know what is the best deal for XM Sirius Radio for a yearly subscription? And what do you get? Thanks.
  17. I believe my radio controller is bad. I got caught in (2) bad rain storms Monday and my controller turned itself on and I can not turn it off. It was completely off and all of a sudden it came on, stuck on 87.7 FM. I can not change the channel or change it to CB, AUX, etc. Has this happened to anyone and if so what's going on? It can't be a fuse because it comes on when I start the bike. There is no sound coming out of the speakers. I don't believe the rain is the culprit but it's strange it started during the downpour. Any ideas???
  18. Im looking for the left inside vent and the radio weather cover . If anyone has these parts laying around Please let me know.
  19. here's two things i have noticed about my sirius radios. the one in my truck i wired direct to the radio with the optional antenna hook up. i was getting fade out in certain areas with large power lines. on my v-star the radio would fade in alot of curves. i finally figured what was causing it was since my antenna is mounted on the brake reseroir, and was already not perpendicular to the road, when i lean the antenna was losing the satilite signal at the extreme lean angle. the one on my wing works fine cuz the bars are flatter.
  20. My 87 RSV project is close to winding down, as you all know it'll never end but it looks acceptable and run's good so I'm happy. I got the Bike kinda cheap but it was missing allot of the electronics and never owning a Touring bike before I figured who Needs a radio, it's a bike? Well I need help with the radio actually the female 8 pin main audio connector in the left side Faring. The white plastic female 8 pin connector on the bikes Wiring harness was cut off. I have the connector but I don't know if there is a way to reuse it or if I can get one from some where that will plug into the male 8 pin connector from the Tuner/Amp unit. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I still have lots of questions about this electronics that I find I just can't live with out but one thing at a time. Thanks Pete (I reposted this here in hope that a answer will come from a electronic form)
  21. Hey Guys I went to the Grocery store on Saturday and when I came out to go home I inserted the key and at first the lights blinked on and then nothing. Great, I thought to myself. I went home and grabbed my truck and trailer, went back and hauled the bike back home. Here's where it gets interesting...I turned the key to the acc. position and the radio started playing intermittantly. I was tired and decided to work on it on Sunday afternoon. When I went back and took the lower half of the fairing so I could get to the starter ( I thought it was probably a loose wire on the starter or a grounding strap...It wasn't ) I would turn the key to Acc. and the radio would not work, but when I turned the key to the On position, one little light came on in the radio but it would not play and nothing else would light up ( ie. dash light, pump, lights...completely dead ) but the little light on the radio was on. It would only come on in the On position and go off in the Acc position. But still nothing else would come on. It's got me stumped. I checked the starter solenoid. It's not loose however I know little else. If any body would be so kind as to point me in the right direction, I would be grateful. Thanks Ken:fingers-crossed-emo
  22. Well, I got home last night around midnight - most of the trip back was great, but certainly not without incident. Ponch, BoomerCPO, Gunboat and I all left Don's fairgrounds together Sunday morning around 0930, intending on taking the back roads to enjoy the ride instead of beating ourselves to death on the slab for another 1,200 miles. The day started out great, with really nice temperatures and some truly wonderful roads, including one that seemed like the Ohio cousin to the famed Dragon's Tail - just a bit more classy wither fewer scars around the edges. But when we tried to escape Ohio by crossing the river at Maysville, either Kentucky boarder guards or aliens must of snuck up behind us and nabbed one of our members! Gunboat had been hanging way back for a couple of hours, but kept telling us on the radio that all was fine and not to wait for him. He was catching up at each stop sign when we had the chance to wait for him, and when we got to the light at the Maysville bridge, he did get up to us just as the light turned green and we headed across the river. Unfortunately, he didn't make it through the light! I told him on the radio we would wait for him on the other side, but before we got across, he said the light had changed again and he was rolling. So at this point, he wasn't any further behind than he had been staying so far. We told him on the radio what route we were following, and he even repeated the route numbers back, so everything seemed fine. But then the aliens swooped in and grabbed up both him and his daughter! His radio responses stopped, and several miles down the road we turned around and went back looking for them - but they seemed to have simply vanished into the hot and humid air of early afternoon. And to make matters worse, Gunboat had lost his cell phone that weekend, so not only did we not have any way to call him, but he probably didn't have any of our phone numbers available either. After about an hour of looking, waiting and calling on the radio, we finally figured we had to start moving again before we melted into big grease spots on the hot asphalt. We still haven't heard from him about what happened and just what orifices the aliens probed, but hopefully he'll fill us in soon. (Just for the record Don, we did stay on the same route we told ya, all the way down to Glasgow! Well, mostly, anyway - when 62/68 split, we stayed with US 68. We couldn't imagine how you might have gotten ahead of us, but I looked for your bike at every gas station and restaurant we passed.) The rest of Sunday went reasonably well, except for the constant discussion and puzzlement about Gunboat. We really felt bad about leaving him lost somewhere in northern Kentucky, but couldn't see what other options we had. We hit some great roads and finally packed it in around Glasgow, Kentucky, 444 miles for the day - not all that many, but typical for back road riding. Monday morning the forecast was for hot and nasty, and it was already withering to just step outside at 0700. We decided the back roads and small towns just wouldn't be all that much fun any more in those conditions and the best option was to just hit the slab and try to get the heck outa Dodge as fast as we could. We had an uneventful ride over to Memphis, where Boomer peeled off to get lost in the Louisiana swamps while Ponch and I kept on to Texarkana. Everything seems fine right up to the point where we stopped for the final gas in Texarkana, after which Ponch was gonna spin off towards Houston and I would continue into Fort Worth. But as I walked out of the store with a full mug of water to get on the bike, I thought the back tire just might be a tad low - didn't really look like it, but always better to check those things out, ya know? Closer inspection found a 2" screw in the tire, right at the edge of the tread, and angled such that you could feel a bulge where the screw was pressing on the inside of the sidewall! And this on a brand new E3 I just mounted the day before leaving for Ohio. Not surprisingly, as soon as I pulled out the screw, the tire deflated instantly. And here I was still about 200 miles from home, at the end of the day, and with a tire that almost certainly could not be safely repaired. What to do, what to do . . . Just for the heck of it, I stuck a plug in the tire and it held air fine, but there was a noticeable bulge along the sidewall where the screw had damaged the belts and inner surface, allowing some air to get trapped under the outer layer of rubber. The bulge wasn't very big, but that didn't change the fact that the tire was severely damaged and it's safety compromised. After a few spins and donuts around the parking lot where it handled fine, the tire didn't show any signs of the bulge growing. Ponch offered to follow me to the next stop down the highway, so I decided to see how it would take a few miles of low speed running. After a couple of stops to keep checking the tire and seeing no changes, we decided to shoot for a town about 30 miles down the road. We made it there without incident, and the tire still wasn't looking any worse, so my confidence grew enough I decided to just try and make it home while the temperature was cooler and there wasn't much traffic on the road. I put my wife on notice that I might have to call her to bring the truck to rescue me and the bike, bid farewell and tremendous thanks to Ponch and is lovely and long-suffering wife for sticking with me while I chanced that first scary leg on the questionable tire, and gingerly rolled on down the highway. Took me a few extra hours to finish that last stretch because of the slower speeds and constant stops to inspect the tire, but made it without any further problems. About 700 miles yesterday, and I think I pinched off a few pieces of my seat during that last 200 miles! What a trip! Had a great time at the carnival, changed some tires there, adjusted some valves, and tuned a lot of bikes. Met some new wonderful folks, as well as lots of old friends, and added some new experiences that I'll not forget. Thanks to all for a great maintenance "day"! Goose
  23. So time to think about adding satellite radio. Comments on XM Radio vs Sirius for satellite providers? Garmin new Zumo 665 has XM. BUT already have a GPS device. Other question, anyone using the portable satellite receivers vs the car mount device? ON the weekend, saw 2 Harleys with the docking station mounted to the left clutch resevior bolts and wired in. Actually looked good, but then again, Harely? Enough said. Thanks for any comments.
  24. I would like to know if there is a way to de-tune my range on the cb. I have the squelch set all the way up on 20 and I get chatter like crazy. My brother in-law has a Midnight and on the way to and from MD Saturday I was getting a TON on trucker chatter, he did not get any. My wife has a J&M on her Shadow and she does not get the chatter. I swear my radio must be picking stuff up from 20 miles away. It's very annoying. Makes it hard to listen to the radio. I almost had to turn it off on the way down. I do not want to hear all the other stuff, just the poeple I am riding with. Does anyone know how I can reduce the range?...........without breaking off the antenna!!!!
