  1. I have a 06 RSV (out of warranty)with the notorious Clarion radio / cb unit. In the past I had trouble with radio freeze which has been mentioned on this forum numerous times. I finally performed the fix recommended on here by disconnecting all radio plug connections, cleaning with contact cleaner and applying dielectic grease. Eveerything seemed to work fine from that point on until recently. When I key the TX lever I do not see the red light appear on the controller indicating you are transmitting. This was confirmed by my ridding buddie who has a J&M CB on his bike. I thought it was odd that I had not heard the large number of truckers lateley talking trash back and forth. All other functions of the radio appear to be working fine. Does anyone have experience with this type of problem? I really need the CB to communicate with riding partner. Just do not want to spend the big bucks for a used unit from Pinwheel if it is a reasonable fix.
  2. when I had my wing I could listen to the radio on speakers and cb on headsets. It looks like this can't be done on the venture. it's either speakers all the way or headsets. I like my radio on speakers and cb thru headsets. am I missing something or is this just the way it is. thanks
  3. I am a new guy to the site. I have a 1983 venture that I would like to put a radio in. Had a friend find me a stock radio with intercom to install. Now what else do I need? Radio looks like it was just unplugged from the motorcycle it came off of. No wires or anything. Thanks. Kirk
  4. I PM'ed Condor about a spark related issue and I posed the question to him as to why it is necessary to have a resistor sparkplug cap and a resistor sparkplug. Answer me this question, aren't resistor plugs primarily used to supress electric pulses from interfering with a radio? Yes ,Ventures do have a radio, but isn't the primary reason for owning a motorcycle to ride it and not listen to the c@#p on a radio. Any comments, suggestions, and/or helpful advice? Condor mentioned that he thought that VGoose had posted on this subject at one time. Soooo..... Thanks all
  5. Greetings all. On my last big trip in April this year I had cause (need) to replace my mobile phone. Ended up with a Nokia N8-00, and boy is it a beauty. By playing around with it I have discovered a number of remarkable features, the least of which is that it has a standard 3mm audio jack outlet. To cut to the chase - if I run the phone through the auxiliary of the RSV and programme my phone, I can use it as a hands-free phone whilst riding (or stationary). It has 16GB of memory and I have loaded 1,520 mp3 music files onto it and I play that also through the audio out. I keep the phone charged using a standard Nokia 12V charger. I also have an internet radio application on the phone through which I can listen to thousands of radio stations from around the world - all whilst riding. If a phone call, text message or email come in the radio volume dies out for about ten seconds so the relevant alert tone can be heard. If it's a phone call I have auto answer and the music is auto-muted. The phone is mounted to the bars of the bike with a secure holder and I have a three-way 12V + USB outlet mounted to the top of my front brake master cylinder. Through that outlet I also run my GPS and the USB is handy for charging my 8GB MP4 player that I also use for music. Surely no need for a CD player or tape deck.
  6. Im just kicking around the idea of removing the radio and tape deck on my 91 vr. Is it possible to replace these and still keep the cb. I use my cb regularly and am not currently happy with the sound from my stock radio, It is good with the headset but without not so much. i have replaced the stock speakers and tis made a bit of a difference but not too much. any idea will be apreciated David
  7. Does anyone have a set of stock (new style) antenna's, they would like to part with? My new trike has the CB antanna missing and the radio antenna is broke. I know I can install fireflys. but I like the new style folding whips.
  8. was hoping maybe someone could answer a couple questions i have.. on my 05 venture does anyone know how i can get rid of the kilometers on the speedo... not a big deal but i was just looking at it today while we were riding and wondered.. second, quiet often when i have the radio on i get an "rx" on the display. thought it was just loosing signal but we hooked an ipod to it today and it still did it.. any advice would be much appreciated.. thanks
  9. today on a short errand, headed out of town turned the radio on ...... nothing controller didn't light up nothing. Pulled in the clutch turned the key off coasted a ways turned key on started bike let clutch out tried radio everything ok??????????
  10. Some of the buttons on my radio were getting little flaky. Also I was having trouble manually tuning the radio. I did some searching here and found that the buttons were pretty easy to get to. I ordered a bunch of buttons on line. They were only a few cents a piece. Taking the radio apart was a breeze and soldering in the new buttons was just as easy. Replacing all of the buttons took less than an hour. The problem was that the manual tuning and memory buttons still didn't work. I found that by tapping the handlebar mounted module, the manual tuning buttons on the radio would work. The radio scan button was gunked and worn out. I took the module apart and replaced the scan button as well as the CB tuning buttons. Nothing to it and now everything works like new!
  11. Went to look at a 2000 RSV today...only has 71,000 km on it ( about 44,000 mi.). It looks and runs like new, but there was a problem. The intercom didn't work. The radio plays through both headsets as did the CB when someone started using channel 6 nearby, but the intercom just wouldn't work. Switched headsets front to back and the same problem. I thought the radio and intercom shared an amp and therefore if one didn't work, the other one didn't either. Anyone have any ideas? The bike is gorgeous but my wife really wants the intercom...so she can make useful suggestions as we ride along!
  12. I have been using my MP3 or radio on the bike...Installed the XM radio from Walmart and the payment of $11.07 per month ( I did have to pay $15 extra for something) and my 50s 60s 70s music plays 24/7. I highly recommend. I know some of the guys and gals have been enjoying this for a long time but at least I'm now on board.
  13. I have a working radio now but most of the buttons are gone. Maybe you have a broken radio with all of the buttons and I can make one good radio out of two.
  14. I am coming from the wing and with that you could listen to the radio and then if the CB kicked in it would mute the radio and you would hear the CB. The dealer told me this system is independent meaning you either listen to the radio or switch to CB and listen for that. Also if I was to purchase a GPS would I be able to plug it into the aux near the cassette and have that work with the CB and radio. Hope my question makes sense.
  15. I have a 08 venture and wanted to know what was a good inexpensive head set I could use:lightbulb:
  16. Looking to upgrade my Arai helmet speakers "so I can actually understand " what is being said on the CB and radio.... Is this what I need? Are they worth it?
  17. After replacing my broken fairing & putting everything back together, all works fine except when I plugged in my helmet headset cable tonight to the bike when going for a ride & got a super loud high pitched constant screeching sound. It happens with different helmets, different cables, and when connected to either the front or rear connectors...so I must've missed something when reconnecting all the radio wiring. I have mic-mutes installed too. Radio & XM work fine thru speakers though. Anyone know what I might've missed before I split the fairing again & go hunting for things?
  18. Proud owner of a 2006 RSV... completely screwed up and left key in "aux" mode... came back to find a flat battery... recharge was successful, however, my radio module is now not working at all. I have taken off the tupperware and checked and replaced the blade-type fuse, no help. REALLY like the audio on my RSV... and its out of warranty now... Any ideas? Thanks!
  19. Don't know how or why,but the head broke on my radio where it has the inserts and screws. I did a temp fix but my question is can a person buy just the housing and change it out?
  20. i know its been discussed here many times but''''' it has been stated here tha the ant. for the cb shold be on the riders left well the one on my 06rsv is on the right and seems to work great, the 10"s is on the riders left and the cb basically does noot work from looking at the cables i can see any dfference btwen the teo without removing everythin nd tracing the cables isthere any way to decide whick cable is wich, the fm radio apears to wrk fine i'm lost ??? thanks for any help steve
  21. I need to order the small plates and screws that hold the power plugs in place for the AM-FM radio for my 89 VR. They are screwed into the bottom of the tray where the radio goes on the left side. I tried looking in the parts drawing on Bike Bandit but couldn't find them. Can someone provide me with the part numbers for the two mounting plates and the screws? And are the parts still available from a Yama dealer? The photo is from an '83 but I need the part numbers for a '89 Venture Royale. Thanks for any help. Jim
  22. So I was riding my 2002 RSV home from work and pushed the up arrow on the radio to change the station. Instead of tuning in to the next station the radio stock flopped forward. The two screws that are supposed to hold it to the mount must have got lose from vibration and came out. Does anyone know what size replacement screws I need? For now I've got the radio attached to the mount with tie wraps. Thanks, Dan
  23. Hi all Had the bike out yesterday (85 Venture) and having problem with the radio, FM is not working AM is OK Checked most of the postings and can’t find any info on this problem I don’t want to replace the radio but would like to try to fix it. Thanks
  24. I'm in need of the cord that comes from radio out to the tank cover. '86 Venture Royal.
  25. At last I took the plunge and followed the good advice offered here and replaced the diodes in the TCI unit. All I can say is that its is worth doing and easier then I thought. The bike now definitely runs better and as you will see from the photos I think I did this just in time!!! First I got ready for a long and tedious amount of work! Coffee!!!! Then I went and took skydoc's advice and soldered everything I could solder including the CMU. The rest of the images show the damaged diodes and the work I did. For anyone wondering what failing diodes look like I think I may have found the proof!! When I touched then, they just fell apart. I hope this encourages anyone thinking about this to do it. All you need is a soldering iron with a fine point and the diodes sold at The Source (Radio Shack) Item # 2761653. This is an assortment of 25 diodes and there are 10 diodes in there that will replace the old ones. (1N4001). They fit easily into the existing holes left by the old diodes. I will be looking for another one to fix and have as a spare for sure.
