  1. Last year while riding the squelch on my CB quit working.Turning the squelch knob has no effect. Now when riding I have to either listen to radio or CB. If i turn on CB it over rides radio. Took CB out and checked all connections. Took bottom plate off CB to check internal connections all seemed good. Any ideas before I have to bite the bullet and buy another CB?
  2. I recently purchased a 87 VR. The PO of this bike addecd a cig lighter, which runs directly to the battery. While this wire is hooked up the memory light on the radio stays lit, along with a small red light on the radio, when disconnected they go out, Yes this is all while the key is in the off position. I am not sure what one has to do with the other, hopefully someone here can help. Thanks in advance. Kurt
  3. I just took out the battery and charged it. When I put it back in the radio doesn't play through the front speakers. I can barely hear it from the right rear speaker even up at max vol level. My bike is the 2000 venture mm.
  4. I went to start my 07 RSV and the battery had gotton to low to start it well i had to go and buy a trickle charger put it on the bike for a few hours charged the battery and started the bike. now i dont have any radio????? is there a fuse that may have blown? has this happened to anyone else??? HELP cant live wih out the radio:bang head:
  5. Radio won't come on and just wanna make sure I have checked all that needs to be checked before going to dealer. - - -Radio fuse {10 amp} is not blown. - - -All connections are okay. It is my assumption that since those two things are spot on; then, the radio is kaput, there is nothing else to check and it is time to take the booger to the dealer.....Right?
  6. On my '89 VR I want to replace the radio with an after market model. It is the Jensen model HD5112. I want to hook it up to play thru the speakers and also the headsets. Any ideas? Should I cut off the 5 pin wire from the factory radio and splice it to the aftermarket one and play it thru the amp? Will this get the sound thru the headsets? This radio has inputs for MP3, wma, USB, SD Card, ipod and sat. radio. I really want to use this radio. Any help will be appreciated. Chuckles
  7. Do any of you use the XM radio thru the Garmin 550. If so where did you get your antenna (GXM 30) and how much did it cost. Do you get good reception with it and any troubles with it. Thanks for the info. Lyle
  8. Ok so here is my problem. I just got my GXM-30 on Saturday. I promptly signed up for XM radio and XM weather. XM Radio was on before I got back to the bike from my PC and I am still waiting on the XM weather. I called the number the XM operator gave me this morning (because they don't work on the weekends) and they gave me yet another number to call. Called them and they said they would send an activation signal down and to leave the radio on for 20 minutes. Well I left it on for 30 minutes and still no weather. I seem to remember seeing somewhere that it could take up to 12 hours before the activation signal makes its way to the radio. Anybody have that happen to them? If I turn the key off and go to battery power the XM radio of course will not work but when I turn the key on if I am on the page menu/xm where you see the XM button in the upper left I will briefly see an XM weather button pop up. Hitting it makes no difference and it goes away after 1 or 2 seconds even if it's not hit. I don't know if that is just natural function of the Zumo/GXM even without the XM weather subscription or if there is something evil lurking in my system. I also go to the menu/tools/subscriptions/XM radio page and it shows my Radio ID and the fact that I am subscribed to XM radio with 217 channels, but the data subscription says none. Thanks in advance. BTW as a side note, I rode in today with the XM radio and the Sirius radio on, both on the same channel and the ENTIRE ride I had XM signal strength of 3 bars and Sirius has at best 2 bars and for most of the ride 1 or no signal. It was actually nice and comforting to get the XM programing back. Now that they have Sirius channels I see no reason to have Sirius at all since their equipment seems to be inferior.
  9. Ok, this wasn't supposed to happen, yet! Radio has been on the blink for a week or so, working occasionally, not at all others, for minutes at a time.... Took off seat last night to inspect cables under the backrest, all seemed fine there. Rode in to work today, ran like a champ, radio still on the fritz. Riding home tonight, have gone maybe a mile and boom, it dies while in motion. No warning, just conks out. Thought it might be fuel, though I filled recently, switch to reserve, nada. In fact, no lights, NOTHING! Oh except of course, the radio control has power! What the hell? The only thing with any lights/power at all is the radio control on the handlebar. Otherwise, it's dead. Looked at fuses under seat, all are fine, none blown. Didn't get a chance to look at other fuses. Had it towed to local dealership. Just when the weather had warmed up too. Ideas anyone?
  10. Looks like this might be a nice option for anybody without a stereo that wishes to add one. http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-radio/jensen-jhd910-radio/
  11. This may sound stupid, but I'll try my best to keep from it. When I had my V-Star I had a small radio that I carried in my jacket pocket on Saturday mornings to listen to NPR. I am addicted to the Saturday morning NPR shows, and Saturday morning is when I do a lot of my riding. Anyway, I must have left it in the windshield pouch when I sold the V-Star, because I can't find it. I thought "no biggie" I'll go to Radio Shack and get another (I bought the old one at a garage sale) well all I can find are Ipods. Ipods are fine for music, but that's not what I used it for. I also used the radio while working in the yard. I guess I should clarify the fact that I have an RSTD. The bike that's kinda like a Venture except without a radio . Anyone know where I can find one?
  12. Straight No Chaser. Heard them on the radio and had to find them on the net. http://video.aol.com/video-detail/straight-no-chaser-performs-12-days-of-christmas/1702788905/?icid=VIDLRVENT01
  13. One of the many winter projects I have is to fix (Hopefully!) my radio. The Mem light is on constantly, and you can't set any stations. I have to pull the radio apart to see what's up, and to clean it. Any words of wisdom before I start???
  14. I just recently bought a standard first generation Venture that a previous owner installed a radio and speakers in. The radio is good quality but the speakers might have sounded good at one time but leave a lot to be desired now. Two questions, what is a good reasonably priced speaker to use and how difficult is the job of putting new speakers in the Ventures faring. Thanks in advance for the help and information. Mike
  15. Ok folks, these are what the bike used to look like, (blue) and this is what I have done so far. Keep in mind that it's a work in progress, with a garage paint job. I'm pretty happy with it so far. Now waiting on Christmas to be over so I can spend more money. It still needs a new windshield, battery, Luggage rack, a set of lights for Squidleys brackets, and waiting on a set of Macs. Took out the radio, Going to go with Sirius Satelite. So I also need a set of headsets as well. Maybe Santa will bring me some of this stuff. I hope the pics are visible. Happy Holidays Everybody.
  16. Where do i check first? took antenna apart at mounting post No loose , broken wires that I could see Had right fairing off a while ago to replace right speaker and saw no loose , un hooked wires , leads FM radio works CB radio lights up Channels work but NO sound , no static , nothing! is it the controller box? switcher? PTT switch? thanks guys MIKE Q I should at least hear static right??
  17. looking for the kind that clamps to the handlebar and has 1 or 2 swivels with a mounting plate or whatever to mount my XM radio.... someone got a link for where I can get one of these? Thanks
  18. Well the wife is going to buy me a satellite radio for my "06" Venture for my birthday. Oh boy. Was thinking on getting the radio and installation kit with the bracket all in one. As usual I come to this great site to see what you guys can recommend. If anyone has pics on what they have on their bikes that would be nice. Thanks
  19. I talked to the Stealer this morning about my CB not working. It is an intermittent problem. I can hear everyone else talking...can not transmit. I can hear my passenger talking... she can not hear me. I thought maybe a problem with the headset and Mic, traded mine out for my wife's ...same thing. I am also having another problem with changing radio stations. The bike is an '04 RSV with about 30,000 miles on the clock. I also complained about the cassette door hanging closed. I don't use the cassette player but I do use the Aux jack for Sirius radio and for my MP3 player. Also mentioned that whenever I get the horn wet, either by washing the bike or getting caught in the rain...the horn quits working. The Dealer told me to call him back on Tuesday with the mileage and the se`rial numbers from the bike.... said that he would have to contact Yamaha for warranty info, cuz the warranty has "levels" on the audio equipment. Anyone ever heard of this???? and what can I expect? I thought the warranty was bumper to bumper unlimited milage for 5 years. I feel like he's setting me up to screw me out of some money. Any comments?
  20. I know there are som ham radio operators here, how many of you have sucessfully mounted your gear to the bike? What mobile radios work well for on the road DX'ing? or even good old 2meter chatter? also what brands do you use for an antenna and how did you mount it? It seems that Diamond does not make any of their no ground plane antennas for 10 meters or 6 meters anymore... what do you use?
  21. After not riding for 25 years I purchased another Royale. Having to do some work on it to get things back to where i'd like them. Here's one. After replacing the speakers I discovered the cassette deck still works fine. It just needs a little nudge in FF to get it to play. I would like to find the cover that goes over it if someone has it. The radio took a little more work, after cleaning the contacts I now have a radio that works without having to hit it. I do still have some minor issues; I am getting static from the speakers with the bike in gear from idle up to about 2500RPM (not sure since it is hard to tell when driving). Also get feedback from the speakers when I turn on the ignition switch, it's like the hissing you used to get when a (tv)station went of the air but much softer. Any suggestions? I took the two button remote apart to see what I could see. It now works as well. One minor problem, I had three springs roll out of it; two to hold the metal balls for the contacts and one slightly longer, thinner one. No clue where that fits, but no biggie since the remote works. Just curious! Lastly, since I cleaned the contacts and got the radio to work it seems that i've had more E4 errors. Coincidence or are they connected some way.
  22. Hello, my bike radio control channel processor µPD17718GC /527 is broken.I need all radio control YAMAHA MODEL NO.ER-1129V 4XY-88132-00 or UPD17718GC/ 527 processor,to appeal to someone for help,I am from Europe, Lithuania.
  23. Has anyone else had problems with the intercom and radio on their Venture? I have an 07 and I have recently had the intercom system squeel and chirp. When this happens none of the controls for the radio or intercom work. I have to unplug the head sets and turn the bike off in order to use the radio and intercom (it seems like it resets adn all is good for a while). I have also had problems with the radio with the only control that works in the volume none of the other buttons work. I have not had a chance to take it into the dealer yet. Just looking to see if others have experienced this.
  24. Hey Folks, First of all, I'm new here, and am very impressed with all the information that is available and of the family atmosphere that is evident in all the conversations I've read. I'm glad I found this site and look forward to getting to know some of you. Been riding for many years but never did much of the wrenching on my bikes but now have some extra time and look forward to learning how. Read in some older posts about the many problems the RSV has with the audio system and made the decision to replace the amp. My audio problems: 1. radio comes out of rear speakers only - have to listen close with engine off to even hear it 2. CB works and has voume control 3. CD, aux, and cassette tape do not work at all - and are not even recognized 4. there is no volume control for radio, but can hear the beeps for each volume selection on the front speakers - it does shut off the volume at the lowest setting. 5. have split faring and cleaned all the connectors and put dielectric grease on them - when exercising the connectors I can make the radio work with a louder volume coming out of the front speakers until the key is shut off - then it returns to just faintly coming out of the rear speakers. Should receive my new used radio amp in the next couple days and look forward to installing in my 2000 RSV to see if that fixes the problems. But I digress. My question for you all is what other maintenance or improvements should I consider doing while I have the faring split with the radio amp out? Give me some pointers or some past experience. Keep in mind - just purchased this bike with 5000 miles on it in early September. I changed the oil and rear tire and put 7000 more miles on it during September. It is stock except for the windshield, passing lamps, and mufflers. I purchased it knowing about the audio problem. Thanks in advance, Jinksy
  25. My father-in-law has a 2002 Electra Glide Standard Harley with the touring pack and wants an intercom system for it. It is not set up for a intercom. What all will he need to hook one up? It just has a plain radio. If he gets an Autocom and buy the helmet speakers is this all he will need? Is there anyway to wire your radio thru this system? Thanks
