  1. OK I need some advice. I went to my local dealer today to have two warranty problems addressed. From what I read on here they are both common problems. The first being the tabs on the inner fairing that break and allow your windshield to shake. The other problem is on the pipes where the two pipes become one. There is an exhaust leak there on both sides of the bike. First I'm told that pipes, even the stock ones I have, are accessories and only covered under warranty for 1 year. Then I'm told that the tabs may not be covered because I may have to return to the dealer that built the bike. Supposedly Yamaha says that those tabs break due to the guy building the bike breaking the tab. Doesn't make sense since the bikes a 2006 and only started to notice the rattle last week. In fact when I first read on this forum about a month ago about this problem I looked and they seemed fine. He stated he would call Yamaha but that he did not expect them to cover either problem. Any advice? How full of crap is he?
  2. HI all I know this question came up several times but I couldn't find the answer. I have a newer set of screaming eagle pipes and I installed them but Too Quite. Whats the best way to get MORE sound? The pipes have baffles in them but they are welded in. Any ideas ? I could get some pics up that could help. Thanks for your time ! Jon
  3. Can the baffles in the stock pipes (83)be drilled? I would like a better tone, but do not want to buy pipes at this time. If they can, has anyone done it and do you like the tone? I dont want an obnoxious tone, just some more "bark" Thanks
  4. I am looking for a set of after market pipes for my `05 Shadow Aero 750... any body have a set just laying around or know of a place that I could get a good deal on a set?? I will also need to jet the carb, so any one recomend a good easy jet kit for this bike?? Thanks for any help Kreg
  5. Been watching; listening so this is what I am thinking of doing: Add a stator from Buckeye performance which will increase output from 30 to 45 amps. Enables heated grips etc. $239. Rivco air horns $142. Baron nasty boy 4-2-4 pipes $395.95. Minis scalloped family jewels $42.95. Torque master $39.95. What do you think? Need feed back tonight or early tomorrow. Ta. Kiwi Ian.
  6. Got a used set of brackets I made for my bike that I've taken off since I went back to the stock pipes on my ride. Check out my ad in the classified section of 2nd gen parts & acc. Larry
  7. ]Hey All, I am sure this has been hashed out plenty of times, and I promise I did a forum search prior to posting I have pulled the exhaust off of the "brown Bomber" (1985 VR) and I will have to create or purchase a new collector, but figured as long as I am at it, I might as well give it some new pipes to boot. Now I see a group of you have gone with the MAC's and some with the jardines, and Rusty even made his with "glasspacks", I was just wondering what H/D pipes (exhaust mufflers) will work slip-on to the 1 Gen. The reason I ask, is I have many misguided friends who prefer the old Orange and Black to the mertic side of the house and most of them have sheds full of various "tossed aside after upgrade parts" and just thought I would go searching if someone could guide me in the right direction. Thanks if Advance, and I have literly spent hours in reading the Tech info on this side. Keep up the good work all.
  8. I'm thinking of doing a stage 3 mod to one of the two sets of Harley pipes ( I don't know the part #'s of these pipes) or a set of stock pipes I have. The harley pipes are a bit louder then the stock pipes one of the sets being a bit louder then the other. I'm now running a set of turned out mufflers from JC Whitney PN ZX017037U which make the bike sound real good and they turn the heads of Harley rides. The JC Whitney's a 3 years old now and a bit beat up and they look bad on a new 07. My harleys are still in good shape and of course the stocks are in A1 condition. My question is does any one have a sound clip of the stock pipes or harley pipes that have had a stage 3 mod done to them? 32"longTurned Out MufflersZX017037U
  9. I was talking to Yogi on this site and he said that he head that Dothan Powersports in Dothan, AL would do a mod on the venture that would increase the hp to 120. Today I rode to Dothan with some friends to the Dothan Bikefest and on the way back we stopped at Dothan Powersports. I talked to the service manager about this. He said he used to have a tour deluxe and did this mod on it. They re-route the air intake and mount four K&N air filters under the tank. Then they put on either bub or barons pipes, I don't remember which pipes he said, and they rejet the carbs. The manager said this would increase the hp to 120 and increase your gas mileage. Just wondering if any of you have heard of this or tried this. Oh, and the cost is $1,200, which means I won't being doing this anytime soon.
  10. My collector seems to have a leak and everytime I look into getting new mufflers I only find "slip on pipes". Forgive my ignorance...but what exactly is the "slip ons" does that mean it slips over the pipes? Can we purchase a new collector or new pipes from anywhere? That is what seems to be rusted, near the middle to the front of my bike. The back looks great. A couple of you on previous post mentionned "Marks custom exhaust crossover pipes" and the "Marks collector". Are these new? I googled and could not find. Have a web site to refer me to? Thanks for the help!
  11. Greetings from down under. Just wanted to know if anyone is aware of slash cut Samsung pipes for the RSV? There is a fellow RSVer here in Oz selling a set and I'm just curious as to their lineage. Well known brand? He says they're made in the US. Would appreciate any info you can throw my way. Cheers. Steve P
  12. I want to replace the BUB's Slip Ons that came with my '99 RSV (the previous owner put them on). I think they are just too loud and I want to go back to stock pipes. I know many people are replacing their stock pipes for BUB's, HD Road King and other after market pipes. Is anyone looking to make back some of their cost for buying those after market pipes? I'd offer a trade, but my BUB's are pretty old (aluminum tips not the chrome tips) and the bottom of the tips are scrapped up from taking corners real low. However - if your interested a trade is possible.
  13. Has anyone resently tried to purchase Roadhouse pipes direct. I ordered a set for my 06 RSV on 10/5 via the telephone. I got someone on the phone right away, they took my order and told me they were in stock (Moto classics w/ 4" slash cut ends for $ 369.00) and would ship fed X ground from CA to PA appox. 1 week. I haven't recieved and I am unable to get in touch w/ them by phone, fax or e-mail. Anybody know anything about them I don't ??
  14. Okay. This is sure to draw several opinions but I'd be happy to read them. I'd like to outfit my 04 RSV with new pipes and I'm not sure which to buy. I'd like a little more of a throaty sound without it sounding obnoxious. In other words I don't want people (especially my neighbors) to look at me when I drive by and bad mouth me like I bad mouth others with loud pipes. I saw a recent discussion on here about the Khrome Werks (sp?) but was wondering about what others have installed and liked. Thanks in advance Wayne
  15. I am new to this site, and have read and re-read the complaints about the whine the venture makes. Some say it is the cut gears........some say it is the clutch basket, some say it is the rear drive. I myself have rode my new venture for 4 months, putting 5200 miles on it already, and early this morning I took it for a 200 mile jaunt and paid particular attention to the whine. I know now why I never even considered it. All big bike motors have this so called whine.......all of them........that is why I was wondering exactly what everyone was talking about. My recent Suzuki 1400 Intruder made more noise than my new Venture. That was until I put drag pipes on it , then I could not hear the motor at all....!! Thinking back my Honda shadow did this same thing.......not so distinct......but it was there. The venture runs so quiet you can hear the motor work. I think this is the whine , exactly what is , I really do not know, I actually think it is the pistons going up and down in the cylinder sleeves as the noise varies at slow to high speed........some say changing the clutch basket moves the noise? Hum?? I am not sure what it is........I do know if the pipes did not run so quiet, most likely no one would even worry or complain about this. I am most likely going to get beat up for this post.......that is okay.......I have a sense of humor(Hey!) But I really do not think the whine thing is an issue. I have confidence in my machine, I really do, and do not even worry about the whine, I think it is just part of the bike, and if it had louder pipes.......no one would even notice it. I personally like to hear the motor work.....is part of the fun of riding. To poke along on secondary roads and enjoy the sound of the bike....enjoy life, enjoy just being alive...no I like my bike just fine.......whine and all!! Kit
  16. Call me stupid, but I don't understand the need for HD pipes. Why can't you just drill out the OEM's? And how can you go virtually wide open pipe without completely rejetting?
  17. OK here goes. I was inquiring if anyone had a power loss from installing HD pipes on their RSV. Everyone was telling me that they experienced no loss of power just better sound. I kept changing pipes and still a loss of power and loss of top end. I found a set that seemed to bring my power back that came off a 05 HD Road King. Thought the problem was solved. Wrong. Well here is the tale of the tape so to speak. Changing pipes was not the only thing I changed. I also at this time added a set of the Yamaha Billet Carburetor Covers. Those who have installed these no where I'm going with this. The install requires you to remove two bolts from your carb diaphragm cover to use in the installation and replace them with the supplied bolts. There are two shims that fit into the diaphragm holes to secure the covers. Well....... You really should make sure that the shims are seated in the holes...... If you don't you create a huge opening for air to enter the carb from the outside, bypassing the air filter. The result is that when you twist the throttle full you create a vacuum in the carbs and the diaphragm gets sucked into the carb from the rush of the outside air. The tech working on my bike said that when the diaphragms got sucked in, I was then only getting fuel from two carbs instead of four to the cylinders. It turned out to be an easy fix. Re seat the diaphragms and realign the shims. Problem solved. Now I wont say who installed the carb covers or who might of forgot to check the diaphragm covers to make sure that they were tight. He will here from me ( I did it) later on this. Just as a side note... When I was trying to find out what was wrong with the power I took my bike up to 95MPH where it quit accelerating. Now think on that....... A V4 that will do 95MPH on two carbs into 4 cylinders and still be as fast as a Harley. :>) Moakster
  18. Well I got my Road King pipes installed. From the looks of them from the inlet side they are both drilled for stage one. My question is the bike has seemed to have lost a little power and lost acceleration now. Almost like the pipes were clogged up. Also the bike was running smooth as silk before the install and now has a vibration. The HD pipes sound great and the vibration seems to be from the pipes. Is this loss of power and the vibration normal when you change to HD pipes? I had the carbs synced two weeks ago and she was running great. This is the first time I have tried this slip-on swap and don't know what to expect. Moakster:confused24:
  19. As some of you know, next summer Im planning on a long trip BUT as im researching some state laws about handlebar height, pipes ect...it turns out that my bars are illegal in AL,AK,DE,GA,IN,LA,MD,MI,MO,NE,OH, RI,TX,UT,VT & WV...THATS 16 STATES. What sux is that Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Indiana,Missouri and Texas were on my path. My pipes are illegal in AZ,CA,CT,DE,FL,ID,IL,KY,MD,MA,MI,MN,MS,MT,MS,NV,NH.NY,ND,OH,OK,OR,PA,RI AND WA...THATS 24 STATES! My trip will take me into Florida,Illinois, Kentuky,Mississippi, Louisiana, Missouri, and Oklahoma. I REALLY dont wanna change my bike all around and have to buy new bars and risers and exhaust...my question is- how vigorously do these states enforce these laws.
  20. Hi all, I FINALLY took the leap and decided to try to change the thermostat on my 84 xvz12 and had to remove the right hand exhaust . when I did that I discovered the reason for my loud exhaust, my collector box was screwed and there is no way to fix it , it is pretty much burnt up. the good news is that both mufflers and all 4 header pipes are in good condition. Does anyone know where I can get a good used collector box, or even if I can get a new one. HELP!!!!!!! my ride is parked till I get this fixed Thanks Gord
  21. Also Barons Bag Slash Pipes. Any comments good, bad? about these pipes would be appreciated. Thanks
  22. I made a contact with a local HD dealer and am going to make a deal on the Road King/Road Glide pipes. How many people here would like a set? I can get as many as needed and will give them for what it cost +shipping. I can have his set for buying him breakfast the rest we will deal but not more than $40.00 US. He has 2 pallets full and said he would be happy to get rid of them. We are giong to Mexico camping this weekend so will check when we get back. Rod
  23. Lets see if I can figure out how to do this. Used the phone for this one. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HryrB5UpGeo]YouTube - drilled out RSTD pipes[/ame]
