Hope everyone had a great Holiday. 06 RSTD, I swapped out the stock headlight bulb with the Silverstar H4, same wattage. Nice. THEN, I just swapped the passing lamp bulbs with silverstar H3's. I know they're 55 watt vs the 35 watt originals. I run no other accessories on the bike. Should the additional 40 watts of power be of any concern? My DC electrical math is not working anymore!

Ok if you have a RSTD or a venture and have put Yamaha passing lights on your bike do you run them all the time.

I had to replace a burned out bulb for my passing lamps and was reminded what a junky set up they are. Has anyone replaced the passing light buckets with something better? Perhaps something that can be adjusted without removing the bulbs? I'm good for another year or so until these bulbs burn out but I wouldn't mind finding a better set up to mount on my light bar.

I was coming home from work this evening and was making a slow left turn when my rear wheel slid out from under me and down I went. Luckily I was going real slow at the time and wasn't hurt. My bike a 96 Royal Star Tour Classic didn't get hurt to badly either. The crash bars did their job pretty well. My right saddle bag got a little road rash and I busted up my right front blinker and passing lamp. I have an extra blinker set and passing light bar but I do not have a passing lamp for the right side. I have one that works on the left side with the toggle switch but after a quick look they don't seem to be interchangeable. Would anyone out there possibly have a right side passing lamp that they would be willing to part with? Please P.M.me if you do. Thanks.. The only other thing I noticed while doing a quick check of the damage was that I have oil dripping from what looks like some type of overflow hose located near the front of the bike just back of the radiator. Any ideas on that? I have a 14 hour day at work tomorrow so I guess any work on the bike will have to wait for the weekend..Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Was looking around at Custom Dynamics website and saw they have the 7" LED headlamp and 4 1/2" LED passing lamps...(Sorry, I have no clue how to load a website).

I bought a set of passing lamps used so of coarse no instructions. Where should I get the power from? Do I need relay?

Hi all. I value your input and would like to present you with my current situation and see what you all think. My wife and I were out riding yesterday and happened upon a Victory MC dealer. We went in to look around and found sitting there a used 2008 RS Venture. Grey color 6000 miles. 9500 bucks. They would only offer me 2500 for my 1996 RSTC. It's in good condition but does show some signs of age in the chrome. It has 32K on it. The Venture doesn't have passing lamps or .... for some reason it doesn't have the fuel tank emblems on the sides. Maybe the owner didn't like them. It sure doesn't look like it was down or anything. We took it for a ride, and if we had to find anything we didn't like I'd say my foot got pretty warm and my wife says the handles to hold on the sides of the seat rested on her butt. (It ain't that big either) Well, neither one of us have to rush to the burger store to prevent starving to death. Anyway, how do these prices seem? Is there any place to shop for emblems and passing lamps where they don't rape you? thanks.

OK...I have had the passing lights for several months now and I think I want to remove them. Besides them not even working anymore (may just be a loose wire), but I think I want to remove them anyway. I let my local STEALER put them on and I am thinking there is a STRAIGHT mount they removed that the turn signals were mounted to (when stock), and then replaced with this lightbar bracket. So am I correct to think that since they didn't give my parts (the other mount bar) back, that I will have to find one before I can go back to the stock look. Here are a couple of pics...the first one shows my bike BEFORE the light bar and the second shows the light bar AFTER the passing lights were mounted. Can I just take the LIGHTS off and connect the turn signals to the PRESENT light bar? Thanks for any help. Wally

So I went down to the local dealer the other day, and they had a bunch of stuff on clearance for 75% off. So I grabbed everything that they had that would fit my bike. They had the passing light mounts, but not the lamps. They did however have a lightbar with some lamps mounted to it, so I bought that too (not the right lamps for this bike, but I made them work). I also grabbed some other stuff and sold it on ebay, and it paid for my whitewall tires and saddlebag rails. Well anyway, after all the great posts on this site, I was able to tear off my own wheels, grease the splines and got it all back together. I did, however, mess up, and didn't get the driveshaft back in the u-joint properly. I had to rip it back apart in 100 degree weather, and get it fixed. I was able to get it all put back and cleaned up. For under $200, I was able to pick up... All 3 fender tips, 2 leather bags (one for the backrest, and one for the front) I wanted to mount the one on the front under the headlamp, but I am still trying to figure out how to mount it. I also got the front fender rail and passing lamp mount and assembly. Anyway, today I got it all finished up, and I like the way it came out. I am Godlover's son, and he got me into this site, then sold his RSV? Go figure!! Well, what I can say is, Thank You for the wealth of knowledge y'all share.

A while back I wanted to switch from the sealed beam to halogen lights for my passing lamps. The solution I chose was the $20 set of Adjure lenses, actually 2 sets since I cracked the first one. Later the I cracked another and decided it was time to for a better upgrade. I chose to order the Vstar halogen lamps and installed them tonight. Wow, what an improvement over the Adjure. The were bright when I first installed them but after installing the first Vstar lamp and comparing them it was clear that the Adjures and yellowed or fogged because it was very dim when compared to the Vstar. If you are running the Adjure lamps you might check them. Dennis

I own a 2007 VR and would like brighter headlight and passing lights . Some of my rideing is done late at night (I work 4pm to 12am ) and I don't feel that the stock bulbs are bright enough for me to see all the 4 legged critters , big and small . Would like to know what others have tried and use , would like to get the brightest possible. Don't care if I look like a plane landing on a runway . Just want the light to be bright as possible . I have my passing lights hooked up so that when I turn on my high beams they come on and they are off on low beam . Thanks for any help .

Hi all. I put a set of Yamaha passing lamps on my 06 RSTD about 3 weeks ago. I have been running with them on all the time in hopes of being more visable on the road. Twice, during daylight hours, I have had cars flash their high beams at me. I believe they think my passing lamps are my high beam lights and I mistakenly have left them on. Do you folks with these lamps leave them on all the time? If so what reactions have you experianced.

I've not been satisfied with the Ajure passing lamp lens and I would like to go to a halogen housing. So I'm still wondering if the Vstar lamps will fit on the Venture light bar? The catalog says they are not for the Venture and I just wonder why they won't work. I know the switch is on the housing so it would be tough to reach if that was the only switch. Any other reasons? Just installed the light bar with the passing lights on my RSTD. What a PIA. The directions wern't real good but now that I have done it, it would be easier the second time around. Feeding one of the wires up through the special bolt was easy but getting the second one with the bullet connector on it was imposible. I tried evey way imanginable and there was just no way. After 20 minutes with it I cut the connector off and put a new one on after I fed the wire up through. Also the directions are not clear on what connector goes where. It's kind of trial and error. Also the screws and hex head bolts are not easy to get at but I was able to get through it. I really looks nice now. I did get it done and will post a picture here later.

I am looking to change/upgrade the passing lamps on my RSV. They are the Yamaha OEM sealed beam style, and I would really like to change to something with a replaceable H3 bulb. I would still like to use the existing mounts, is there a way or a different lens housing I can use? I also hate that the sealed beam is "yellow" compared to my Silverstar Ultra. Any and all help you can provide would be great.. Thanks JM

Hi, I'm getting ready to install Yamaha passing lights on my '07 RSV. I've downloaded the instructions for installation and there's a comment regarding tapping into a certain wire depending on jurisdiction regulations. So to all the Ontario RSV owners with passing lights installed, are they lit for both low and high beam, lit only on high, or lit only on low? Thanks

year ago I put some Wally-World passing lights on they didn't hold up well (rust) Today I put some show chrome lights on and am right proud of the way they turned out

Hi all. I had an unfortunate collision today. I'm fine but the bike took a hit. I'm looking for a right lower cowling and a passing lamp assembly. Nothing on eBay. I checked the OEM listing and they want $245 for the lower. I haven't been able to fine the passing lamps. If anyone has any or knows a good place to purchase please let me know. I'd like to get her fixed ASAP. Thanks for any help.

Has anyone else tried these lights on a RSTD? Considering getting the stop lights and LED turn signals. I still had a fuse blow and lost the headlights. I have now disconnected the passing lights and haven't blown a fuse since. Looks like I'll be pulling these and looking for a bare/bad/burnt wire. May replace the passing lights with LEDs also. http://www.customdynamics.com/Yamaha_tail_retro.htm silverdeer

I need some advice from an electrical guru. I am trying to put passing lights on my 2001 RSV. I want to use a relay however the passing lights are for a Road Star. In the alternate wiring diagram the power goes from the positive side of the battery through a fuse to #30 on the relay. From there the power goes from #87 to the positive side of the passing lights. #85 on the relay goes to ground and #86 goes through a switch and is connected to one of the 3 wires going to the headlight. Red with a yellow strip if I want the passing lights on all the time (as I do). My headlight does not have a red with a yellow strip wire. Problem #2. My passing lights have a switch built into the left passing light and the power (positive) goes through the switch. The right passing light has a red wire with a yellow strip. The left passing light has a red wire with a yellow strip and a plain red wire. I have connected the red wires with a yellow strip together with a wire running between the two lights. The left passing light has the red wire and the red wire with a yellow strip both connected to the switch. I have connected the red wire to another red wire that will go to the relay. The alternate wiring diagram shows the switch on the negative side. Is there anyway to connect the relay show that the switch is on the positive side. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Harry
