  1. One of my winter projects was to convert all my running and marker lights to LED. I've got my front fender marker and then four double sets in the rear light bar and then four mini Barons on top of the light bar. That's fourteen 194 bulbs alone. I can see the drop on the volt meter when I turn them on. Wanted to get that down a bit. I stopped at about every truckstop and and independent bike shop I came across looking for housings and light assemblies and never really found anything that would make a clean mount or look like it belonged there. Then I found these guys a while back. www.superbrightleds.com Right out of Missouri, USA! I bought a few LEd bulbs with the 194 type wedge base to try and liked what they did. In fact, I had one out of the first batch that was a bit intermitant and I shot them an e-mail and they sent a replacement the next day. No problem at all with their customer service people. These LEDs have voltage range from 5-14.5 volts depending on the LED type and a full selection to cover about any application. You can select the beam pattern, how wide, on most of the styles and luminous intensity for your application also on most. So I ordered everything I needed to do the markers and will get to the dash lights later on. For under $45.00 I got enough to do everything and that included shipping. A whole $5.00 for that. But I took a pic of the rear bar with only two LEDs in the Barons. Should be able to pick them out easy enough. Brought the red back out instead of that orangish color. Betting that my volt meter won't even flinch when I kick all these puppies on. I paid about .96 cents each for the stock 194 bulbs and $1.99 each for the 5 bulb LEDs that went into the Baron. Just read the spec sheets on the LEDs before ordering. The LEDs are bit bigger depending on the application. I ordered three different types for mine to get them to fit. Now if that ain't a poor man fix......what is? Mike
  2. Alright everyone just a quick update on the suppliers I mentioned in the other post ($6 LED's. $13 S&H. I like it.) Two of the suppliers LED's matched in brightness on fairly fast shipping and handling time considering coming from China and Hong Kong. http://stores.ebay.com/verimage_Car-...34Q2ec0Q2em322 http://stores.ebay.com/Julysky-NO1_C...34Q2ec0Q2em322 Both of these I was totally happy with. Now the nightmare begins. [/url]http://stores.ebay.com/ezonedirect_C...0Q2em14?_pgn=3 I would not buy from again under any circumstances. First let me say that they are very responsive to any communications and will refund your money if you have any problems. Now on Feb 2, 2010 I purchased 6 24ct green LED's from them. On March 5th I receive 3 of the six. On March 8th I received another one and on March 11th I received another one and today is March 15th and I still have not received the 6th one. Alright they are cheap enough I will go with that one if and when it shows up. Well I start installing them and I can't get them to work and I finally figure out that 4 of the five I have are wired backwards. Ok no big deal I'll just reverse the wires. Then I notice I have 3 different shades of green. That will never work. I have 2 that are the same shade of green and are the same shade as the rest of the LED's already installed. Of these 2 LED's one is wired backwards. Of the three remaining LED's one is only medium brightness and all three LED's their color doesn't match what is already on the bike. The 6th one is floating around the world someplace. The wires as stated before are very very tiny so I broke them a few times installing them but no big deal just make sure you don't cut them to short just in case you have to redo them. EZONEDIRECT is giving me my money back and has had great communication throughout this whole ordeal. My advice would be to stick with the other two dealers and by all of your LED's at once so they will match. The other two companies I bought 4 from one and 6 from the other and they all match. Conclusion, If your going for cheap (like me) then you are going to have a few problems. I would do it all over again because the cost saving far outway the problems I've had. My Cheap (Harry)
  3. I looking to buy and install a license plate frame that have some bright LED's that I can use for both running and additional break light. Do any of you kind folks know where I gould find such a thing for my 07 RSTD? You help will be appreciated. Mark;)
  4. I'm in the process of installing LED's on my new to me sidecar and am considering tying them as well as all the bike's running lights (LED) into the tail/brake light cirquit after converting those to LED's. I'm installing two (2) 56 LED tail/brake lights, an 8 LED marker light and three light bars with a total of 48 LED's. And finally two 20 LED fog lamps. The bike would get the 19 LED tail light. Assuming that I am not going to exceed the current draw from the current two 1157 tail lights, my concern is that the wire supplying the tail light may not be big enough to pull that trick off any way. Am I correct that as long as I don't exceed my current amps I should be OK?? Hope I stated that accurately! Thanks
  5. After installing the passing lamps on my Venture I decided I wanted some led's as well. I found some really neat ones from Joe Florida. http://ledaccentlights.net/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=36 They might be slightly more pricey than some but it seems the quality and the lifetime warranty made up my mind. Also, I got almost immediate answers to my questions thru emails. I don't know how to do a utube video so I'll just post a few pics of the basic 3 colors. The leds are remote controlled from up to 150' and have 15 different functions like strobe, multi color flash etc. some of which are probably TOTALLY illegal while running down the road.
  6. Looking into LED's out back for the tail and brake light. Tried the simple fix with a 1157? and had the display tell me the light was out. Is there a simple fix for the non technical rider, other than live with the display????? Saddle_Bag:fingers-crossed-emo
  7. Just wanted to thank everyone on here and for all the great information, picked up some blue leds (figured the black pearl needed some ocean) so I spent today tearing her down and running wires all over the place lolol it was fun and all this great info is so worth the 12 bucks!! took some crappy garage picks wanted to take a spin but raning hard tonight but here they are anyways....
  8. Can anyone tell me how many led's my 2007 RSV will support without putting my charging system in overload ?? I have fears of taxing the stater and causing a burn-out. At present I have replaced both front and rear reflectors with led's but I want to add a strip or two with about 70 to 100 led's.
  9. to LED's. I bought 1 1/4" X 3 1/2" LED's from J & P Cycle, REAL nice people, the entire experience with them was first class. The rear LED's fit perfectly inside the existing reflectors. Just popped the reflectors out, drilled another hole to accept the wires and ran them thru the crash bar. On the front I replaced the reflectors totally with the new LED's. I had to make a backing plate out of aluminum with a stainless flat head screw thru the lower portion. Not wanting to make the wires bulky I merely taped them with black electrical tape and ran them with the brake line. I didn't attach them to the line but I think I can find some stand offs to keep them in place if they start moving. The LED's are 1 1/4" wide and the smallest aluminum flat I could find was 1 1/2" so I cut them down with my band saw, knocked the corners off and went to work with 180 girt paper. With some patience and a lot of rubbing I managed to come up with 4 smooth edges on each one and nice radius on the corners. To set the stainless ( 12/32 X 3/4" ) screw in the plate I drilled, put a champfer in it and locked it in place with it's nut then used a nail set to 'marry' the aluminum to the screw head. Then just for insurance I put a drop of crazy glue on the head and the underside. I neglected to take a picture of the front mounting plate but it's pretty simple once it's shaped to the LED. Thanks to all that have already done this conversion, it ended up a fairly easy chore. So - thanks for posting your methods and results

    LEDs

I was bleeding all the fluids on the 86 during the Monsoon rains that we have been having and noticed that 1 of my LEDs was dim. I had another one and replaced it. On further inspection I have 2 more dim ones and 1 that is completely out. What gives? I was under the impression that the lifespan of LEDs was quite a few hours of operation. Mine might have a total of 30 hours on them. Is anyone else experiencing low lifetime on their LEDs.
  11. My plan is to add 2 amber led's on the front guard and 2 red led's on the reat guard. My intent is to replace the reflectors that are there now. The question is - Can I safely connect the led's to the existing light relay that I installed for my passing/driving lights so that they will be energized with the ign. switch ?? btw - it's a 30 amp light relay and it's powered from the aux/cigarette lighter and it is fused.
  12. Does anybody have a 'peak' amperage usage on a stock (factory) Venture (2007) I'm not at all familiar with the stator type generating system I've installed driving lights and would like to start stratigically placing some LED's. I realize most led have a milliamp draw but am concerned with light usage already on the bike.
  13. How easy is it to remove the seat on a 2003 venture...i want to run my wires for my led's under there?
  14. I just recieved the following 24pcs x 10mm Round Led Light Bulb Wire/Wired(Bright BLUE) Seller name http://pics.ebaystatic.com/aw/pics/s.gifmegaplace4u from Hong Kong Shipped them the same day I paid for them ($9.20 no shipping charge) Recieved them after 6 days. Tried them before the post and they work fine. Pig tail is 6 to 8" long. Now all I have to do is wire them together and place them. I know a guy who gives good instructions to those of us that are extremly electrically challenged like me, ain't that right Eck? I think I will be pretty happy with them so I thought I would pass it along to those of you who wanted to fool around with some cheap LEDs without spending a fortune. I thought the price was right. Many different colors to choose from too. Good luck Bubber aka Steve
  15. We are picking up our 2007 RSV this Wednesday, and I planned on adding some modes to the bike within the first month. Some things I wanted to add were the driving lights ( Light-bar ) . I added a light-bar on my VTX, and are familiar with wiring, relays etc. Is it hard to do on the RSV? I'm assuming the tank comes off etc? Also I planned on adding luggage rack. I noticed Yamaha makes a nice one for the bike, is that what you would recommend? I also plan on adding some LED's to the bike. About 200+ plus, so I'll be removing the gas tank, to light the engine, and running some up front of the bike, plus in the rear under the saddle bags. Any threads on this, so I can get some ideas for the placements of the LED's? Exhaust - Not sure on this one yet. I had 4 different exhaust systems on the VTX before liking the one I had. I'm looking for an exhaust system Little over stock, Little rumble down the road, but not loud enough to give the wife a headache when we take long trips, 300 miles + in a day Here was my last bike, before and after, so you can see I'm comfortable with working on bikes: http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm200/fltekdiver/cropped.jpg http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm200/fltekdiver/IMGP0305.jpg AND Here's MY GW with the LED's I added: http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm200/fltekdiver/Ledsbike.jpg
  16. Well I finally got my rear LED turn signals done. Now I got to get started with the front turn signals. Each rear turn signal has 20 ultra high flux LED's in them. The front signals will have about 25 of the same LED's in them. The rear stop/tail light will have 72 LED's in it. And so far there are 8 rear, 4 front, and 2 LED marker lights. That makes 176 LED's total. I attached a couple quick videos. One of the finished LED circuit board and another with the circuit board installed in the turn signal housing. I'll keep ya posted when I get the frond signals done and get all of them on the bike.

  18. St Magic GEN32-1157 in tailight Also LED's in the "Harley Lights"
  19. here are a few of my winter projects i have finished cool key chrome around the gas tank switch block led's
  20. HI all, I've seen sporadic talk in different sections about LED mods. And I've seen that there are plenty of different kits out that can be used very well with both our 1st and 2nd Gen machines. I decided to play around with them looking for a more personal touch and I would like to anyone interested to share ideas with. With the exception of a couple of short neon tubes I will be working with adding presolderded single led's. I just this afternoon received a great big box of "oh wow now what's" so I don't have any projects to show yet. If there is any interest I would be happy to post pics of both good and bad ideas as they roll out. As well as the best sources for single ultra bright led's and supplies. I'm also really interested in hearing about any of your projects either finished or just drawingboard.
  21. Don't know what the lights look like inside. Are they just bulbs? If so, anyone think about tinkering with them enough to figure out how to wire led's instead? In bright daylight, sometimes the lights are hard to see. These would be like the neutral, O/d, etc...what I call jewel lights. If they are bulbs, I would think led's would be much brighter.
  22. I followed an old harley home from work last evening. When the guy applied his brakes his brake light came on. He also had high intensity led's that light up inside his red turn signal lenses. Then on his rear bags he had two very bright small red led's that flashed on/off about every half second. This was a real eye catcher no problem seeing his brake lights from a distance. Not sure if his setup was legal but definitely noticeable.
  23. I am looking for ideas or suggestions on placement of additional position lights, probably amber leds on the sides of the front cowling. I replaced the rear roll bar reflectors with leds and they realy add to side visibility. I could do the same up front but don't realy want to run wires down the fork. If you have pics that would be great.
  24. Hi All, As I posted earlier, I work night shift and as I was comming home from work I was almost rearended by a Ford F250 while I waited for a light to change. It got me to thinking how could I make myself more visible for other drivers. I started to work changing all of my lighting to LED's. I also added some more lights. Because of the electronic flashers the first gens. have, I had to add Load Resistors to the 4 turn signal lights to get them to flash properly. I changed all of the 1157, 1156, and 194 bulbs to LED's and added 2 LED light bars to the rear as well as a blue dot tail light lens. the Load Resistors get really hot so I mounted them on metal brackets to isolate them from the plastic of the bike. I have enclosed pics of the upgrade, If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask. Ride Safe and Bee Seen, Earl and Jean.
  25. Hey Guys: Has anyone installed the right angle LED's offered by Superbright? Both 1156 & 1157 in Amber with the stock lenses? If so do they work well and how fast is the blink rate? I have seen some rockets with leds and they are blinking like a strobe. Don't mind if they speed up a bit, but think they loose their effectiveness when they are blinking that fast. Is it like double time when a bulb burns out or slower than that? Sponge Bob Tucson AZ It's a dry heat!!!!!!!!!!!!!
