  1. I am in need of some instruction in welding. If anyone is a certified welder or instructor who would be willing to spend a few hours with me (for a fee http://www.patriotguard.org/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/smile.gif ) please give me a call. 678-823-3003. Thanks.
  2. Got a little "irked" with the hubby at the begining of last week. Hadn't talked to him (which is darn near impossible for me)for 5 days cuz I was mad as a wet hen at him....so I'm leaving work Friday wondering how I'm going to make it through the weekend without spoutin off, when I get a call. "What are ya doin?" "Going home" "Can you have your bag packed in 10 min?" "Yes" "Alrighty then" he says..... We take off, 3 hours later end up at the Kickapoo area Friday, Sat and Sunday. Had the best time, beautiful riding, great back roads, great food, got to know some really fun people, ice cold beer and a fun place to stay. Had the time of our life!! Guess I'll stick with him another 30 years!

  4. I'm having a hell of a time getting the driveshaft to mate up with the u joint splines. Is there a trick to it or do I just have to fumble around for hours?
  5. Need backrest for my 86.Can only ride about 50 miles before having to stop and stretch.I can get off the 86 and ride the 99 for about 2 to 3 hours with no pain.HELP.
  6. Just wanted to thank the members of the forum and the moderators. I've had my 03 RSV for a week, have received plenty of great information here and gladly paid my dues. This bike had been popping headlight fuses almost daily. I had started taking the normal diagnostic paths of disabling external devices, tracing power leads for accessories, still the popping fuses. Carrying an allen key and box of fuses in my pocket was the norm. Before going down the path of a more detailed diagnoses or takign it to the dealer, I decided to do a search on "headlight" here and stumbled across a problem that seems to plague many who have the added passing lamp kit; pinched wires in the steering head stop and that is my problem! Repired the connection, wire tied it back and problem solved. Again, thank you all for your contributions to the site. Without, I may have spent many more hours and dollars on this one. Andrew
  7. Football practice started this weekend. 4 hours on Saturday, 3 hours on Sunday. I am fat and out of shape, but I think I will be alright. About 1/2 hour into Saturday my body finally realized I was serious and started to loosen up. I made it through the four hours of practice in pretty good form. I really felt it saturday night though, I laid on the couch and about died. Yesterday was much better, it was fun to line up and hit people. We weren't wearing pads yet, but we probably should have. I just about broke the defensive tackle's nose on one play. I am pretty confident I will be playing first string center. I am the biggest guy and I can long snap. The entire offensive line is 300lbs plus. I was smarter yesterday too, I didn't go home and lay on the couch. I tried to keep moving all day, which kept my muscles loose and prevented me from building up a bunch of lactic acid and freezing up all together. I was pretty stiff this morning, but I was surprised that I woke up well before my alarm went off. I actually slept pretty good. The pain is ok, the more I endure now, the more I get to deliver later The quarterback is decent. The defensive line is all 275lb +. I hope to play some d-line too. The defensive and offensive backs are average size. Everyone seems to want to be there, and we had some good intensity. We may even win a few games this year. if you want to know more, check out : www.dbqbruisers.com

It is done in the magnificent setting of the Coliseum. Very moving. Very uplifting. It is..... "amazing." Listen...my hope is that you will feel better for hours. From my heart to yours. 10. I spent 8 hours working on a 188,000 mile 97 Mercedes Benz, 6 cylinder today. Jezzzzz I hate working on those things !! I had another beater MB, back about 15 years ago ( again, something one of my kids bought ) and did a lot of work on it. Thats when I decided, I would Never buy an MB, Old, New, Used, Wrecked, whatever whatever--- They are HELL to work on !!!
  11. Yeah its snowing bigtime in Newnan, Ga. right now, calling for 3-5 inches of snow before its all over with...........My grandson cant wait to go out and play in it, that will take a while, ground is saturated with tons of rain over the past couple of days and it will be a few hours before it starts to accumulate....... Good day to stay indoor and be entertained by him.......... The first 3 pics are after about 20 minutes of snow, the rest are after about 45 minutes.
  12. I've been getting a sharp pain in my shoulder after I ride for a couple of hours. It starts out feeling like someone is stabbing me with an ice pick in the area marked with an X 0n the silhouette below. I just started riding again after 25 years without a bike. I really thought I would work through it after a while, but it just seems to be getting worse. My wife and I were on the bike for 6 hours yesterday and the pain was unbearable. I've tried adjusting the bars up and down and it hasn't helped. After a while it spreads up into my neck and makes it hard to turn my head to my right. I've read posts where others have had a similar problem. I'm curious if anyone has had success in fixing the problem. I'm willing to try about anything.
  13. It was 54 degrees and clear. We got out for about 3 hours and just wandered about for awhile. Honey
  14. I've got 20K on the ole 06 RSV now and had never pulled the shaft out. Well, while I had the rear tire off for a change, I decided to pull the shaft to lube the splines. Glad I did, there was no lube on them that I could see, looked completely dry from the factory, but that's another rant altogether. Once started, it took only 15 minutes to pull and lube the shaft...and 2 1/2 hours to reinstall! My question is: What rocket scientist came up with that u-joint configuration? OK, now I'm done venting and I understand why they wanted 3 hours labor to do the job at the dealer. I just had to walk away a couple of times or I was going to throw the shaft across the garage... I got it all back together and all is well, but did I miss something? Other than that little access hole, a coat hanger, and 3 six foot long arms (one to hold the light, one to hold the hanger-turned u-joint hook and one to hold a light), is there a better way to line up the u-joint and shaft?
  15. Well I was setting here looking at the web site today and started thinking I have not seen Buddy on here in a long time. I said to my self, self why don't you call him and make sure all is OK. When I talked to him he said he has been working two jobs his and his bosses and cant get to the INTERNET right now. buddy said he has only been getting about 3 hours sleep a night. I think he could use a prayer from us to get him though this time at work. As we all know about Buddy he will give it his all. So for anyone that has been worried about him he is OK just tired.
  16. The manual call for the steering head and swingarm to be greased at this time. The dealer is saying it will take 8 to 10 hours of labor or $640.00 to $800.00 dollars. Is there some way to grease these areas with out disassembling the motorcycle? Barry:Im not listening to
  17. I just got home from the hospital. Cindy called me home from work because she had a 104 fever and was vomitting. Took her to the ER and they admitted her. They dont know whats wrong yet. I will keep everyone updated. I am off to bed. Have to get up in a few hours to take Haylie to see her counselor. My ladies are wearing me down. Dale
  18. OK folks, I need to update the software due to a couple of newly discovered security issues. I am starting now. I will try to be as disruptive as possible but you will probably see a couple of glitches for a few minutes...or hours...or...uh.....years.....
  19. I got my new quonset barn 3/4's up and a 60+ mph wind just ripped it apart 2 hours ago. )*^$%^&*%$# I feel better now. Thank God for insurance.
  20. Sorry guys, I thought my other post didn't take, but I just didn't look back far enough. About to go read responses now. About to drive 4 hours to Sierra Vista to test ride a Tour Deluxe in the morning. Jim
  21. My son Matthew and I went for a nice little four day ride a couple weeks ago and ended up seeing a lot of beautiful country and earned our Iron Butt Association SaddleSore. We left Seal Beach, California (just south of Los Angeles) at 11:20 pm on Sunday, June 22nd headed for Denver, Colorado for our IBA SaddleSore. The odometer read 29899 miles. Matthew had managed to get about three hours sleep just before we left, but I had only managed about an hour's nap. But I was pumped up and determined. We had a short stop in Barstow, California for gas, and made Las Vegas by 4:00 am. I've seen enough of the I15 from LA to Vegas so it was nice to get that part done in the dark. We watched the sun rise shortly before we got to St George, Utah where we stopped for gas and breakfast. Before I go on too much, I have to talk about the bike. I have an '05 Yamaha Royal Star Venture, and that was just about the perfect bike for an Iron Butt ride. There may be better for one up, but with a passenger, I don't think you can do much better. The stock seats are as comfortable as can be imagined for both of us. I have the rider backrest from Utopia that I couldn't do without, and I made some armrests for my son because I knew he would be sleeping off and on. I took some arm rests off an office chair and used duct tape to attach them to the grab bars. They didn't look the best, but they saved me about 300 bucks and worked just fine. Matthew would fall asleep for about 15 minutes at a time before I'd get too nervous and jab him. I already had close to 10K miles on the current Avon tires, and after getting home still have plenty of tread left. I personally think bikes should get a lot better gas mileage than we do, but I couldn't complain too much. I think about the worst I got was in the low 30's when I was running at 90+ mph for about a hundred miles. When I could keep it to 70 mph or a little less, I'd get in the mid 40's. I was a little worried about the high altitudes, but I experienced no problems with power or mileage because of it. All things considered, and probably especially cost, the Venture is an excellent touring bike and I thoroughly enjoyed mine those four days. Once into Utah, I decided to do a few miles helmetless. As we left a rest area, I noticed rain clouds ahead but couldn't tell if we would hit it or not. Of course we did. At first the cooling off felt good, and my shield kept most of the rain off my face. Then I started getting pelted and it kind of stung. I wasn't sure what it was till I looked on my shirt sleeve and saw ice bouncing off me. It was hail! Go figure. It only lasted about five minutes tho, and then the rain for about twenty more and we were in the heat again. At the next stop in the small town of St Joseph, Utah I put the helmet back on and kept it on. I enjoyed the feeling without for awhile, but it did cause more fatigue which I didn't need. We finally got into Colorado and stopped in Grand Jucntion for gas and a late lunch at 4:40pm. By now I was feeling the affects of little sleep, and those last few miles before Grand Junction were a bit of a blur. The road became more scenic after that, and I managed to wake up okay. We gassed up in Glenwoods Springs, and then the road became even better for a freeway. We passed through Vail and saw the ski slopes and the air was a bit cooler. All of the riding was high elevation, with the highest I think at about 11K feet. We started seeing a few deer on the sides of the road so I slowed a bit. Traffic started getting a bit heavier as we neared Denver, and about the same time the sun set and evening was upon us. We rode to the southwest part of the city where our destination was a Hyatt off the I25. We arrived at the hotel at 8:50 pm (our time) and had exactly 31000 miles on the odometer. That means the odometer put us at 1101 miles in twenty one and a half hours. Mapquest had the miles at about 1040. I got the Front Office Manager to be our end witness, and the staff was all quite amazed that we had just come straight through from Southern California. I work for Hyatt and have a friend at that hotel, so he set us up with a real nice room with a jacuzzi tub. A quick shower and dinner came first, and then that tub sure felt good. I sort of remember letting my family know we were there safe, and then I was sound asleep. Matthew told me in the morning he had fallen asleep in the tub till about 1:00 am. So I still have to send in my papers to IBA, but we did it. This is my second 1000 miles in 24 hours, but the first one was in 1981 and not certified. For those of you who have done one, I think you would agree that my 14-year old son earning his as a passenger is really quite a feat. I have to get back to work now, but I'll continue again later with our more "leisurely" ride home. I'll give a little heads up and say we did 2404 in four days. And yes, we did enjoy every bit of it. Okay, the triple digit temps on the last day was a bit of a drag, but other than that.....
  22. My son and I will be leaving Tuesday morning and taking 90 out of the Cleveland area. We plan to cross over into Canada via the Peace Bridge in Buffalo. This is not a very long ride for us, only about 6 hours maybe. If anybody else is going that way on the same day though, you are welcome to join us.
  23. I just saw this on the news tonight. Seems Florida wants us to ALL be certified on a M/C. Even us old timers. At a cost of $200.00+! Plus they let us know 4 days in advance of the law taking place. What kind of garbage is this. Sounds pretty unconstitutinal to me. Especially given the fact that they have charged extra all these years for a M/C endorsement. At least grandfather in the older riders. Certification Required For All FL Motorcycle Riders http://www.cbs47.com/media/news/7/f/9/7f944998-a100-471a-8724-42c24dc41997/Contributor.jpg Reported by: Kristen Cosby Email: kcosby@tvjaxfl.com Last Update: 4:54 pm Print Story | Email Story http://www.cbs47.com/images/textsize/11N.gifhttp://www.cbs47.com/images/textsize/12S.gifhttp://www.cbs47.com/images/textsize/14N.gifhttp://www.cbs47.com/images/textsize/16N.gif http://www.cbs47.com/media/news/a/0/2/a0228aa9-d85c-407a-b076-66626a63463d/Story.jpg George Drake will soon trade in his car for a motorcycle, figuring he'll cut his family's gas costs in half. "Its convenient, its something that's a thrill and I think probably the way America's gonna go if we continue with our gas prices," said Drake. Florida wants to make sure these growing number or riders rev up safely. Starting July 1 everyone who hops on a hog has to be certified by going through a training course. Even if you've been riding a motorcycle for years, if you don't have that certification, you also have to go to class. Michael Dobbs runs Jacksonville Motorcycle Safety Training and says this law will save a lot of lives. "90 % of people that are self-taught will probably get in an accident, self taught by a friend, an uncle or someone," said Dobbs. The training course is 15 hours long- five hours in the classroom, 10 hours on the bike. The course teaches things like how to avoid an accident and how to maneuver through a tough situation on the road. It average $200. For Drake, it means he'll save gas money and stay safe. "Florida's going the right way by enforcing this course," said Drake.
