  1. Ok, just exactly HOW do you adjust these passing lamps for the UP and DOWN?? I can't see it.. Anyone able to shed some light on this.. ? Thanks in advance.
  2. Hey guys, I need to get my clutch redone, sorted out as it's slipping at highway speeds.. not so bad when taking off from a stop but up on the highway, dropping the hammer really screams up the revs and eventually I'll feel some accelleration. Folks have been leading on to the PCW Racing clutch kit, which is not as expensive as thd Barnett clutch kit. Comparing apples to oranges, is one better than the other or are we looking as one being as good as the other, only price being the difference? I couldn't reach the PCW people today.. ergh
  3. Utah highway 261 between Hite Utah at the eastern end of Lake Powel and Mexican Hat Utah. We took a car trip several years ago and happened across this very interesting highway. There is a set of switchbacks that blows your mind. Heading north from Mexican Hat the highway appears to disappear into the mountain. We have discussed taking the same route on our bikes, our concern is that much of the swich back section is gravel. Road 261 can be avoided by going through Blanding then back over to highway 95 but by doing that you wind up missing some incrediable country. So then we are wondering if any one here has taken this route and if so how did it work for you. Thanks and happy traveling, Teri n Erv
  4. For people that didn't make it to the Hub but would like to see what the roads were like here is some video. The riding doesn't start until about a minute in. I forgot to mount the camera ahead of time. The camera was mounted to my left side highway peg so it looks like I'm over the yellow line when I wasn't. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZV64-QvJRc]YouTube - Ar1[/ame] Hope this works, I've never posted a video before.
  5. Cindi and I got back from Gatlinburg a couple of hours ago. It was a blast! Rode the Dragon (at a fairly slow speed and STILL managed to scrape a peg!). We were supposed to stay another day, but since Leadwolf and Tinkerbell left early we were just sitting around moping and said @$^# it and left for home. Caught a pretty heavy rain storm just after hitting the highway and had to sit under a viaduct for a bit, but it eased up and we booked out. Spent the night in Lexington then home this morning. Not gonna be able to make the rally (again!), but hope to see a few of y'all at a meet and eat before the snows come again.
  6. Who owns the aquarium themed Tour Deluxe and rode Highway 129 recently?
  7. Oh man did I have a good one today! I was bored out of my tree yesterday, 4 days straight of rains (nasty stuff rain) and yesterday at least it was coming down misty, straight down like, not so much horizontal.. So I decided to head north to visit the parents, 5 hours of highway.. After having the leveling links installed, hyd clutch fluid flushed, steering neck tightened and etc etc.. it was a great ride north.. no rain really.. Spent the nice but had to beat feet home this afternoon in front of a vicious squall line of T-Storms.. wow.. bright in front of me, pitch black behind me, wish I had the camera with me.. Anyway.. on the way home, I'm cruising along, all nice and happy, enjoying the ride, divided highway mode, I decided to do the last 100 miles in 4th gear doing 70 mph to see what the fuel mileage was gonna be like with the tall & wide Clearview.. So while on cruise control, I pulled a dead green filled bug from my glasses (go figure with a Tall & Wide windscreen eh?) with my right hand.. as I put my hand on the bar again, I accidentally hit the engine cut off (kill switch) OOOOPPS!!! I had never had that happen to me before and for the hell of me couldn't remember what to do next.. so like a big fat happy bike, I switch it back to on.. BANG!!! (shriek!!) The bang was the bike detonating all the raw fuel obviously, but the shriek was from the poor lady I was passing on the highway egads.. I can only imagine the fright I gave her LOL.. Poor thing.. To be honest, that's the first time I had done that and wow.. it's a big bang at 70 mph.. Question is.. Does that cause any damage to anything? If I were to do this as a stunt 'every blue moon' kinda thing, am I risking harm to my bike? Otherwise it was a fantastic ride.. didn't get wet and enjoyed Nature's fury from a distance =)
  8. Hey all, Ruth and I are in Oregon this week. Spent the last couple of days in Springfield and today went over McKenzie Pass to Sunriver. Never have I wished I had my bike more than now. The highway over McKenzie is outstanding! I'll send you Midwesterner's some pictures of the Great Northwest soon. Bob and Ruth
  9. Hi all: Is there anyone with the Diamond R Passenger Highway Pegs installed on their Second Gen Venture within 100 Miles of Virginia Beach? Honey would like to try them (maybe a short ride) prior to purchasing a set. Any help would be greatly appreciated .
  10. Hey all, bought kuryakyn longhorn offset dually highway pegs 7980. Just can't seem to get them exactly where I want them. Couple questions? -The clamp that snugs to the engine guard. Does it make a diff. where it goes? Either facing forward or backward? My foot seems to be catching the longarm part with the clamp facing backtowards the bike. -any torque specs on the bolts? I have tightened it to all most breaking point & the clamp is still slipping off the engine guard. (1") Maybe a piece of rubber inside the clamp?? & finally any pics of how you may have yours installed? Thanks Gang,
  11. Okay Guys, I value everyone"s opinion here on this site! I want to buy a trailer hitch for my 07 Venture, I need some recomendations. I'm going to be pulling a small trailer, about the size of a Harbor Frieght with a Sears Cargo Top on it. I plan on doing both back road and highway driving with it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Mud season is almost over and the bikes will be coming out of the barn soon!!! Thanks Josh
  12. Does anyone use highway pegs on their 1st Gen? I had to remove my lower louvres(see pic) to allow my legs to be able to extend out for pegs, but I haven't gotten a pair yet. It seems to me that if I put them on the engine guard, they won't be out far enough for me to extend my legs. I am 6'. Looking for ideas so I can get a set of pegs.
  13. I was looking at JCWhitney and found these highway boards http://www.jcwhitney.com/Floorboards/GP_2002565_N_111+10211+600014704_10111.jcw?currentRecordCount=12 the live chat lady claims that the horizontal mount for the bracket is due to bracket design??? That seems like a bunch of compost. Anybody seen these, use these or have an opinion on? And yes they be pricey!! I am looking to mount something like this on the vertical support for the engine guard since that would allow for better angling and will provide the requisite offset to clear the fairing and still be able to plant your feet. ('course cheaper would be nice) Thanks.
  14. So I got a set of Kurakian offset mount highway pegs to go on my 08. The problem is the right peg wants to rotate and loosen up when I put my foot on it, and they both want to rotate around the crash bars, anybody have any ideas on how to deal with this?
  15. I would like to put the cobra fatty highway bars on my 98 royalstar, but they dont make the fattys for it. GD Cobra all to H**L lol!!! anyways does anyone know about how to get them to fit? would the road star ones fit possibly or maybe the roadliner? anybody wanna bend me some up for a fee? lol:fireman:
  16. the wife and I did a little ride up to Malabar Florida Saturday, yes we got soaked (7 times) the the end result was worth it. we ate at the Yellow Dog Cafe, on Dixie Highway, our route was 95 north to Exit 173 (east) to Malabar, out to Dixie Highway, then north about a half mile, (sits on the river side). managment said motorcyclers are welcome we rode from Ft. Lauderdale. one way 167.0 miles:Venture: we will try this again on a nicer day & maybe as a M&G
  17. As long as we're sharing... I was riding back from Death Valley, our annual ride. The last of my 17 fellow riders had just left me to make the final 5 mile ride home. I was on a 2 lane controlled access highway in the number 2 lane. As I approached an on-ramp I was able to see several cars entering the highway. Seeing a good size opening in the number 1 lane I moved over and continued at speed. The cars began to merge into the number 2 lane, but the lead car decided that the opening I now occupied was actualy meant for him. With no hesitation the he, it was a he, crossed the number 2 lane and ended up right along side me. I was sure he would see me and back off alowing me to return to my lane. Instead I was forced off into the center divider. As luck would have it the center divider was about 40 yards wide and dirt with tufts of grass and shrubs. I learned to ride in the dirt, lucky again. I began down-shifting, not touching my brakes, and slowely came to a stop. No one stopped, no one called CHP. Had I gone down I hesitate to think how I ight have ended up. A Valkyrie is not a light machine. Keep you eyes open. Because most of the time we are invisible
  18. Does anyone on here know what a good price for an 06 Black Cherry would be. I'm going to be selling mine here in the very near future. My Father-in-Law passed away very unexpectedly and left me with his 08 Ultra Classic. I won't be able to keep both of them and I know the better half would rather me keep the Ultra. So my Black Cherry might be going to some very lucky rider. back rest, trunk rack, side bag rails (Side and Top), Wild Pig exhaust, Highway pegs, drink holder, CB, upgraded speakers with a four channel amp and it only has 9000 miles on it with all services up to date. V'R Jim:mad:
  19. I have a Reddy 115000 btu "jet" type heater. Instructions state you can run almost anything in it. Kerosene, diesel, heating oil, jet fuel, etc. I have run it on construction sites using "off-road" dyed diesel, and one winter used #2 dyed heating oil from an oil tank I removed during a change-out to gas fired boiler. When using these fuels, it stunk bad on start-up, but was fine once the cone started glowing red. In this extreme cold, my 1920 vintage home with no insulation that originally had a wood stove in each room, the heating system was no keeping up. When the house drooped below 55F, I decided to bring this unit in the house and run it 15/20 minutes every 4-6 hrs or so. So, I purchased 5 gal of clear K1 kerosene. While pumping, first I noticed is this cost $1.20 a gallon more than on-road diesel. Then I also noticed a fairly new sign that stated "NOT FOR HIGHWAY USE. MAY CONTAIN OVER 500 PPM SULPHER". Now, up to June 2007, dyed off-road diesel was limited to 3000 ppm sulpher (I think) and highway diesel was limited to 1500 ppm sulpher. My understanding of the main difference was K1 kerosene had much less sulpher, so it did not stink when burned. SO NOW THE QUESTION!! Since current highway diesel is now limited to 15 ppm (yes, 15. No zeros) and even after paying highway taxes is $1.20gal less than the K1 which may have MORE than 500ppm, why should I not run the diesel? Or is it something other than the sulpher that is the problem. I know both my 2003 duramax and 1995 6.5 turbo have less (almost none) odor on the new-spec highway diesel! NOTE - DO NOT TRY DIESEL IN YOUR GRAVITY TYPE (WICKED) KEROSENE HEATER. I am talking about my forced-draft jet heater, which is designed to be tolerant of these different fuels.
  20. Hi I just bought a 08 Venture!!! Have never road one so I don't know what to expect? I am moving up from a 1982 900 custom Honda. I just might enjoy my new ride. I am looking for some info on what kind of highway pegs work well? I don't know what size the crash bar is & if I need a offset to reach them. I only have a 30" inseam. I don't have the bike home yet so I can't tell. Thanks Reed.
  21. My last two tanks were 36 and 41 mpg. It seems to be fluctuating a lot. I have not synched my carbs yet, but I am hoping to get better MPG after synch'ing...(I run highway between 65 to 70 mph) What is the best MPG on a 2nd gen Venture out there?
  22. I rode to work today and when it started sprinkling, I decided to ride home with my wife who works an hour later but only 10 minutes away. Unfortunately, a job-related emergency came up and I had to take the bike. I came upon a road under construction and stopped at a signal just upstream of the construction. I was halfway across the intersection when I saw the entire road in my direction of travel was covered in wet steel plates for a distance of maybe 50'. I slowed and crept across the plates. The third was buckled (sagging) and also was at a bend in the road. Maybe I was going too slow, but the bike went down on that buckled steel plate. It was like slow motion. The wheels just slid out to the left. I think I stopped it from crashing down with my right leg, but I can't hold the weight of the RSTD once it gets past the tipping point. I hit the kill switch and hopped off. It laid on its side for 15 seconds as I looked at the effing construction guys who just stared while I asked for help. I was blocking the road (one lane) and the light was going to turn green. That's a shooting offense in Houston, so just tried to pick it up. I did! I didn't do anything special, just lifted the right handlebar and the sissy bar. In 10 seconds of effort, it was on two wheels. I hopped on and puttered off with only one horn honked (as I started moving!). I stopped a few blocks away in a quiet neighborhood and looked it over while my adrenaline burned off. As far as I can tell, the only damage is the right highway bar is pushed back enough to keep the floorboard from sitting flat, plus the reflector on the saddle bag guard is scuffed almost imperceptibly. It looks as if the bike rolled onto the two highway bars and just laid there sup[ported by them. Driving home, the roads were already dry so I could get it up to 75 or so. There isn't much change in how she drives, if any. What I feel is likely paranoia because she is still nimble and responsive. So my question: is there anything particular I should do or look for following a near non-event? Beside change the right highway bar--I can't take having the floorboard at an angle.
  23. Anyone added the heel rests to their Kuryakyn highway pegs or other pegs? Wondered if some models work better than others and if the heel rest really does help make those long trips more comfortable? Any pictures of these work? Would a highway floor board work better than a peg with a heel rest ? Appreciate all feedback!
  24. I was going to change the oil last night and noticed that my CB antenna was broke in half at the plastic part. Couldn't tell till you looked at it. Cant believe that it didn't fall off on the highway or sometime during my travels. Anyway, does anyone have a stock one laying around that they would like to sell? Dale
  25. I was wondering if someone has any experience with a "racing engine" problem on a first gen Venture. Mine will start running at a higher RPM (about 1500) after a short time in city traffic. It doesn't seem to be stuck cables. The throttle retracts all the way and I can bring it under control at a stop by holding the brake and feathering the clutch in first gear - 1 or 2 times brings it back down to normal. The real problem is any longer diving at highway speeds. After an hour at highway speed the engine will run at 3k when I stop. The clutch method above works but as soon as I let it go, the engine starts climbing to about 3k. It doesn't jump up to 3k but I sure wouldn't call it a creep either. Anyone have any ideas? MikeC
