    Good vendor experience

A couple of weeks ago when Gary N was visiting, he showed me a headset that he had purchased from Sierra Electronics. It is a headset for a half helmet, and something that I was looking to get for myself. I wound finding a canadian distributor out of Quebec, and emailed him to ask him a couple of questions. He responded within the day. I then proceeded to place an order via their website - again, within the day, he had called me back to confirm that what I order was actually what I wanted, and within 48 hours (today), the unit was shipped to my house. Although he is slightly higher (CDN$80) than what you can get online direct from Sierra (US$75), the lack of having to go through customs, paying the cross-border charges and all that, make him more economical and from my experienced, these people sure are customer-focused. Just thought I'd share a positive vendor experience! They are: IMC Communication @ http://www.imc-communication.com/index.php?set_lang=A Cheers,
  2. hey all: know that this has been brought up before but have looked and searched can't seem to find model number of headset for 07 rsv any thoughts or info greatly apperciated.. and where can i get them the cheapest or at reasonable price. thanks Brian D.
  3. My very first ride of the season. I'm just so buried with things to do around here that I just haven't had time to ride. With all the typical spring cleaning, painting, yard work around here and working on the site and trying to get the new server optimized...I've just been buried. So, this morning I got on the bike around 7:30 and went for a ride. WOW....I can't even start to tell you how much clearer my head is now. Folks, I really needed that little ride. Probably only did about 50 miles but it sure felt good. Here are some of my initial impressions of some recent changes I have made to the bike. Avon tires. So far, I love them. I have a very high opinion of the Michelin Commanders that I have been running but decided to try the Avons to see what all the fuss is about. It's way too soon to tell if I will stay with them over the Michelins but the initial impression is very good. The one and ONLY complaint I had with the Michelins were that they howl just a bit in the long sweeping curves. These Avons are very quiet at all times. Now if they do as well as the Michelins on wet roads and I get close to the same mileage out of them, I'll be sold. Speakers. I recently changed out my Pioneer speakers in the front with the Polk db401. I have to say that the Polks are a better speaker. Bass is just a bit better maybe but they just seem to have a cleaner sound overall. I'm not sure it's important now though because....... Headset. I tell you the truth. Since buying my RSV in 1999, I have always used the external speakers for music. The reason is simple. I've never found a headset that does justice to music. They all seemed a bit tinny to me, lacked depth and bass, just didn't sound good at all. I've tried several models of high end and low end J&Ms. For about the past 3 years, I've used AirRiders which were about $200.00 a set...still not impressed. So, I just continued to use the bike's speakers for music and have been through 3 sets of them. As I mentioned in another post, I finally risked wasting my money again and bought a set of Edset's. WOW...what a difference. For the first time in the 9 years that I've owned my bike, I finally prefer listening to the music through my headset. These have the best sound, best bass, best clarity of any headset that I have ever used. I had tried them in the garage after installing them and they sounded good but I've found that the others sound OK also when sitting in a garage. It's not until you get on the road that you can really judge them. I have now ridden with them at speeds up to about 90 MPH and I can tell you, in my opinion, these are the only ones that live up to expectations for a headset. PLUS...these things are only about 1/8 - 1/4" thick so are not even noticeable in your helmet. I often had to push on and re-arrange the others so that they didn't start hurting my ears. Other than that, I really enjoyed the ride except that the bike isn't running quiet right. I feel a bit of hesitation when I roll on the throttle and it just doesn't feel right in general. Maybe later today I'll check the carb sync and maybe even the plugs. It's OK and still a joy to ride but something isn't perfect. I'll figure that out when I have time.
  4. I'm on my 4th set of passenger headsets in 4 years. The drivers set which gets used all the time doesn't break. Could there be something in my wiring burning these out? Last ones were IMC-HS-G35U-FIVE PIN OPEN OR FLIP FRONT HELMET HEADSET.
  5. Does anybody know if you can convert or add a bluetooth to a regular JM headset. Seems like a shame to through out a working headset. County Mounty:bobby:
  6. I have a Shoei RF-900 helmet and am looking at headsets. If you have this setup, what headset are you using? I have been looking but the mic's look so huge and I do not have a whole lot of room from my chin to the the chin part of the helmet. I can figure out the wife's helmet, it is newer HJC and looks like it is designed for a headset. And, she has plenty of room at the chin area.
  7. I need a headset cord 1 (part #1NL-88196-00-00). This is the cord that goes from the radio unit to the tank cover bracket. If anyone has one I'd appreciate contact!
  8. During the ride to the last Va meet and eat I found out that my microphone died.Well after thinking about it for more than a week I emailed J&M this I have a HS8154 headset that is 2 years old and the Mic stopped working I already checked the pins and tried a different cable and it is still out.The speakers work fine what I would like to know is do you have any suggestions as to what I can do so far as troubleshooting the Mic itself? Thanks Jeff And this was the reply from them Jeff ,,,,,, I am sorry that you have had problems ,,,,,, Please send the headset to my attention at the address below ,,, we will take care of it for you ,,,,,, Best regards ,,,,,,, Mini mailed the broken headset off for me last monday and we recieved My headset back today repaired and good as new at no cost. I think that this is very nice of them to replace defective parts 2 years out of the box. As far as I am concened they have excelent customer service. Jeff
  9. Bought an 89 VR this past Easter weekend and fell in love with her on the ride home from Houston... only problem I am having is a persistent ignition noise (increases with RPM) in the headset only in intercom mode. Stereo and CB are clear as a bell... but at highway speeds the intercom sounds like a herd of bumblebees are in my nut cover. I have checked the threads here and haven't found anything addressing ignition noise except from a system-wide perspective. Cleaned and dielectriced all the connections in the headset system... both driver and passenger... no help. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
  10. Hello again everyone. Boy, I am just full of questions today. haha Seems that I just don't get the power out of my stereo that my buddy gets on his 93 RSV. When he plays his stereo while riding, I can hear it. Faintly, but I can hear it. When I play mine, I have to crank it to full 30 and although I can hear it, it just isn't as loud enough and it is very distorted. When I am using my headset, I can't make out the music. Oh, I can hear music playing but it is more noise than anything else. And again, distorted. And with the constant open mike picking up all the outside noise, wind, bike, my own breathing, it is more nerve racking than anything. Also very hard to talk back and forth with my wife. She can barely hear me and I can hardly make out what she is saying. ANOTHER THING: Thought my buddy and I would try out the CB part of our system last weekend. His bike was about 50 feet away from mine. When I talked to him through my headset, it was so freaken loud, I could hear it come from his bike. It scared him and he had to turn it down. When he talked to me, I could hardly hear him at all, and my volume was turned up all the way (30). Any ideas? Is my stereo defective? Are there any not so obvious settings that I have not adjusted? Thanks.
  11. Anyone ever use one of these? Opinions? http://www.sierra-mc.com/prodimages/imc-ghs45_lg.jpg http://www.sierra-mc.com/proddetail.asp?prod=IMC%2DHS%2DG45U
  12. Well, I am Excited! I am about to get our first headset, I have read many of your reviews concerning other inquires on which manufacture to purchase. But I must put it out there myself...( are you feeling me?) I have pretty much decided on J&Ms, and I will get the best available for the money, any comments? Keep in mind we ride half helmets and can use any input from all you other two up's...My wife uses a face shield, But I do not... Have a blessed Day....NanPaw
  13. Have any of you managed to somehow connect the Zumo 550 Bluetooth function to your phone and standard headset in a meaningfull, usefull way? If so, please share the info, pictures if you have them...? I guess a very handy and usefull thing would be to somehow end up with the entire helmet headset setup being wireless...... But that's probably too complex or expensive....?
  14. Hi Folks: I need some help with my CB / Headset project. I have it pretty much completed. From a 90 I was able to acquire a complete CB and radio system which I have been wireing and mounting into my 84. Has been an interesting project and I feel fairly successfull. All is now working except for the drivers headset. I only get sound from one side. After much deliberation and head scratching not to mention testing and testing I've narrowed it down to one pin in the cable that comes from the radio inside the fairing to where I plug my headset in isn't working. Cleaning etc fails to get it working sooooo Does anyone have one of those cables they would be willing to part with?? Wayne
  15. I have an old Motocomm headset that I used on my V-star connected to a small CB. Does anyone know if I can get an interface connection cable to hook up between that and the 5 pin Yamaha connector? I will eventually go for a J&M set but for now I'd like to use the existing headset I have. Any info is appreciated.
  16. Looking for a lower headset cord for my 2006 venture,i have the headset but need the lower cord . Anyone out there have one for sale????
  17. I have a J&M elite headset for sale. Is 2yrs old, comes with the 5 pin connection cord for the 2nd GEN.... New it would cost $229.00 from J&M, asking 150.00 you pay shipping. I bought a new helmet with a headset pre-installed and don't really need the 2nd headset so I am willing to remove it from the helmet and sell it. PM me if you are interested
  18. I was wondering if anyone is using a handheld microphone for their CB radio. My friend has a Harley Ultra Classic with this setup and I like the way he is able to use a half-helmet with no headset. What experience have others had? If you are using a handheld mic, where did you get it? Can you provide a link? Thanks much!
  19. I ride mostly solo, and my wife rides separate on her intruder. So, just got a pair of "dual mode" headsets and a JMCB for her bike. My question is on the Venture can I make the audio play thru the speakers, while at the same time the CB comes thru the headset? I can adjust the volume of the Audio, CB and IC all individually. There seems to be separate HS and SP settings under both the Audio and CB menus, but when I change it in one location, the other changes also.
  20. The helmet I had for sale got lots of looks, but no offers. I have changed it to an auction item. To bid, got to the classifieds auction section. This is a 2yr old Silver LG HJC SYMAX modular(flip-up) helmet with a J&M Elite Headset and lower cord. The helmet and headset retail for $259.00 and $229.00 respectively. The helmet is in Good to Great Shape, the clear visor was replaced at the end of last riding season. The helmet has black reflective eagle stickers on each side that reflect white when hit with light at night. It also has white reflective tape on the back. I will split the shipping with the winning bidder up to a cost of $15.00 to me. If you have questions about the helmet feel free to PM me or email me at saulst@sbcglobal.net.
  21. See the ad and pictures in the classifieds: 2 yr old HJC SYMAX modular helmet with J&M Elite Headset with lower cords for the Royal Star Venture. New the helmet retails for $259.00, the headset and lower cord retails for $229.00. Clear visor was recently replaced. Helmet is in Good to Great Condition. It does have reflective stickers on the back as shown in the photo $350.00 or Best Offer
  22. I apologize if this has all been covered before. I have partial answers but not the whole thing... I have an XM and a Garmin (I know - should've had the Zumo with the built in XM - but the Nuvi 350 was free). I would like to run the audio from the XM through the aux on the back of the cassette. I think I can handle that part. My tunes would then play through the dash. Ideally, I would like to run the audio from the Garmin through the 5 pin headset line. How can I tap into that? Lastly, what is a tidy way of running switched power to both of these devices? Thank you in advance!
  23. Just wanted to say thanks to all that replyed regarding my question about relocation of the passenger headset plug in. I just received my extension ( which I got for $2.96 plus shipping) that someone suggested. Works like a charm! You guys are the best! SlimJim in Texarkana, Texas
  24. If anybody here has an old headset that they want to part with, I would like to have it. I am looking for something where the cord and mic are OK but the speakers are shot. I want to experiment with adding a 3.5" stereo jack to them so that you can just plug in a set of noise canceling ear buds of any brand and completely remove the existing speakers.
  25. How involved is moving the passenger headset plug-in? I have read else where that some have moved the plug to the back of the drivers backrest. I was wondering how invovled that is. Does the trunk need to be pulled for this, and do you need additional cable? Just looking to place the plug in a more convient location for the passenger so they can plug in when already mounted on the bike. Thanks in advance SlimJim 04' white RSV
