  1. I hope the bike turns out to be decent . Im going to check out an 05 RSV tomorrow armed with some knowledge picked up from the folks on this site , hopefully Ill be able to figure out if its worthy or just a dud. Wish me luck !
  2. Hi Folks, First, let me say that this is definitely one of the best sites around and the folks here are always informative and if nothing else.. entertaining.. I have been on this site for about a year and a half and have found the tech sections and discussion very helpful and informative. Best $12 a year I have ever spent. The question I have for everyone is .. has anyone ever tried or is using the Baron's Longboard replacement for the stock floorboards? I have tried different style highway pegs and nothing seems to work for me but want a little more room to adjust my feet while out riding. Have seen the the longer floorboards on the Victory's and think they are a great idea. Have been looking for something similar and found the Baron's version but not sure how they would really work or how adjustable they are.. front to back.. side to side? Thought I would check here before I go and blow $300 on new floorboards and don't fit my needs either. Thanks Ah.. PS.. I am riding a 2004 RSV.. love the bike .. one of the best touring bikes I have ridden..
  3. Well, have been home a week now from Cody and have finally started getting caught up. Had 397 E-mails waiting for me in addition to about 2 dozen phone calls from clients to return when I walked in the door. But it was worth it. For those who have as yet been unable to make an International Rally, put it on your Bucket List. They just keep getting better and better and I don't believe you will find a better group of folks to hang out with. Have been ready all the posts sending congrats and compliments to Condor, Lone Eagle and the others who, without questions worked their butts off to make this years event a roaring success. But in reading those posts it became readily apparent that the folks that really made the 2011 International Rally a success have been grossly neglected. So, let me take this opportunity to correct that glaring slight. Any event; be it a Maintenace Day, Local Meet and Eat, Vogel, Ork in the Pines, or any one of the impromptu get-to-gathers would be nothing if it wasn't for the folks that show up. Be it a ride across town or across the continent, if you didn't take the effort to come out, buy tickets, make donations and the countless other seeming "little" actions it would all be for naught. So, to each and every one who participates, a rousing thank you. It is you folks that make each and every event, large or small, a huge success.
  4. Hi folks, I just wanted to once again thank all of you who so willing helped me in the restoration and rebuild of my 1983 Venture Royale. It is just about complete except for 2 niggling problems; the oil and brake icons on the monitor show up intermittently even though neither is at fault and E4 errors on the air control readout. And it looks like I have found the answer to both of those on the website. I will be fixing those this week. I have included a pix of the finished project of which I am quite proud. It runs well and I have enjoyed several rides. However it looks like that may be coming to an end. During this past Winter I have developed a chronic case of BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo). It usually starts as a dizziness and can get really bad, I wound up in the ER twice this year. Doc says older folks are more prone to get this (THAT'S ME!). So for safety's sake I”ll be putting both of my 2 wheelers up for sale (I also have a 2000 500cc Kawasaki Vulcan). Since I can't give up riding, I'm going to be looking for a used trike or frike. Three wheels will provide more stability and should give me ample time to react if I start getting dizzy. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. So if you know of anyone who might be interested in either of my bikes please let me know. And if anyone has a lead on a trike or frike also let me know. And again thanks to all you great helpers and this website, I couldn't have done it without you. Frank
  5. :223:I have a basic first aid kit and CPR mask that live in my left saddle bag. I'm sure most of you have one on the bike too, but do you have some kind of sticker to let folks know there is a kit on the bike?
  6. Don, the wife, daughter, and myself, want to thank you and your wonderfull wife, along with all of the other fine folks, that made our visit to your home on m/d this year a wonderfull time and great trip. we will certainly return again next year to meet more fine folks and make more new friends and eat some more of the best ice cream we have ever had. you can also plan on another set of diamond cut fins to give away, as our way of saying thanks!! this years fins winner Kim Woodworth of OAK Hill Va. was shipped out this afternoon. anybody wanna guess who's bike these black fins came from?? thanx again Don, you guys rock:bighug: Mike/Cherie/Teresa
  7. ....a little late, but we just made it home about 1/2 an hour ago. We, ummm....missed our flight Security at the airport was stupid and we got to our gate as they were pushing the bird away So we ended up sticking at Cleveland airport for a few extra hours and they flew us to Atlanta and then home to Texas. Had a BLAST!!! way too short as always, but worth every penny spent:thumbsup2: Met some new members and old friends, couldn't ask for a better time. We'll get some pics up for you folks in a few days, Lonna took over 500 of them As always thank you Don and Eileen for everything, we love you folks and can't wait to see y'all again. Safe travels for all still on the road.
  8. I was working hard outside with my neighbours son:dancefool:
  9. If you are coming to M.D. PLEASE ensure your name is on the RSVP list:sign yeah that: If it's on the "maybe" list and you are coming PLEASE move it to the "yes" section....last call folks"
  10. Ya I know, we all knew that,,, but this is different. They are planning to be in S.Ontario from next Friday to Thursday morning June 2. Now we don't mind having them around,,,, at least that's what I'm supposed to say,,,,,, but some others may like to have a go at them for a day or so. So here's the proposition: Friday afternoon and evening they'll be in our care, and anyone else that shows up,,, it is the start of Marcarl's VentureIn. so we'll have supper somewhere and then BS the evening away. Saturday they is going to join in on the VentureIn, meet lots of new folks, forget all their names and be plum wore out,,, soooooo Sunday is a day of relaxing and catching up with the time,,,,, maybe. Being that they are 12 hours ahead of us, and that they have been flying for a day or so, jet lag may be an issue. ( and they ain't spring chickens anymore) Monday,,, maybe somebody would like to take them to see some sites,,, maybe Niagara Falls or maybe Toronto, or maybe Kitchener Waterloo,,,, who knows. Tuesday,, the same as Monday, only different,,,,,,, maybe different people and other sites. Wednesday a repeat of Monday and Tuesday, just don't get them bored with repeats. Thursday, they plan on heading for Don's to get maintained properly. The idea is that they would meet with more folks than just us,,, hey,, sleep overs are great as well maybe. Offer up some suggestions, let's make it interesting for them. This will need to be approved by the boss,, of course!!!
  11. Imagine that you have been living in a house for 20 to 25 years...and all of a sudden...someone is knocking on your door saying there will be 25 feet of water here in a few days...get out and get out now. Can you imagine trying to get everything you own out of the house and to higher ground in just a few days? That is what these people here in South Lousiana are having to do. Uhaul trailers and trucks are hard to find... Folks are using what ever they can to move thier stuff out or loose it. I have seen photos of folks hauling riding lawn mowers in john boats. Not only the folks in south LA...we need to think of all that have been effected by the Mississippi River flooding all the way up. They have no choice but go... We all need to keep these folks in our thoughts and prayers.
  12. Was considering on doing the hole punch thing this week as shown. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=302 So now that this has been a while how are folks doing with this mod? My tank is already removed anyway so I myself will give it a shot! Jeff (BOOM)
  13. Hey Squid and Ponch....Ponch and Squid... I need your snail mail addresses guys....got a little something here that I know y'all are just gonna have folks begging you for. P.M. or e-mail me, and I'll git 'r done! gunk:whistling:
  14. I went to the doctor today during my lunch break. He told me I have a condition that is associated to many folks my age. It's called ... C.R.S. Can't Remember $hit
  15. Just when we thought winter was done for the year we are now getting/going to get 2-4" of that crap once again before noon tomorrow. I know some folks have had way more snow then us here in southern Michigan but really enough is enough I say. Larry
  16. Has anyone found a Kumho as of late? I am having a hard time locating a 160/80 r15 How do folks like the federal? I can't take the 400-5000 I am getting on an M/C anymore.
  17. Folks, this has been weighing heavily for a few days now so I'm going to put it out here and hope that you all give it some thought. It has been a long winter for many of us and I think that we all need a long soul cleansing ride to wash those winter doldrums away. It is perfectly understandable and happens to some extent every winter. I'm talking about the tone of some of our responses to one another. There just seem to be way too many posts and responses lately that end up with one or more members going after each other much more aggressively than is necessary. Sometimes it is the result of a short, snippy and totally unnecessary response to a question or opinion and at other times it seems to be a problem with somebody being entirely too thin skinned and taking offense at something that was perhaps meant more in fun and not as a smart remark. One thing that has always set this forum apart from so many others on the Internet is our patience and willingness to help each other. Even if it's a question that may have been discussed multiple times before, we have recognized the fact that some folks are newer and may not have seen the previous discussion. We also recognize that some folks here are much better with computers than others may be and we realize that searching for and finding existing information is difficult for some of those people. That is why we often discuss things over and over again or at least help them by posting a link to an existing discussion without a smart remark to accompany the response. We have also been able to disagree about things without it turning into personal attacks against another members opinion. If don't don't like a certain product, whether it is a tool to sync carbs, a tire brand, whatever, it should be easy enough to state an opinion and explain why you feel the way you do without telling somebody else that they are stupid or don't know what they are talking about just because they happen to have had a different experience with that product than you have. The strength of VentureRider.org is that we have a fantastic group of folks that generally bend over backwards to help each other. I've said many times, our bond here is the love of the Venture, Royal Star and other motorcycles. We are here to enjoy that which brings us together, not to dwell on things that might tear us apart. None of us are perfect and we all have a bad day now and then. I have actually censored myself here by going back and deleting my own posts a few times because when I read it back later, I realized that it did not come across as I had intended or I had said something that I quickly realized was uncalled for. The best advise I have to offer to all of you and to myself is to NOT post if you are upset or angry about something. Walk away and think about it for a while. After you type a post when you are a bit miffed about something, take a few minutes and read through it again a couple of times before you hit that submit button. You are the greatest group of people that I have ever had the pleasure of being associated with. I am very proud of the family that we have built here and if we stay true to the the basic principals that this club was founded on, we will continue building those lifelong friendships that so many of us have found here. Thanks for listening.
  18. OK folks...I just upgraded our forum software while you were taking your breaks. Let me know if you see anything missing or not functioning correctly. Thanks
  19. and clearly the groundhog was/is on crack. This would make a gorgeous Christmas morning though. Please folks, be careful what you give to the prognosticating rodent.
  20. Hi folks, I live in Red Deer, Alberta and need to put a new battery in my 2004 RSV. I see most folks go with the Deka AGM battery. Anyone have any idea where I can purchase one in Alberta? Thank you in advance Chris in Red Deer, Alberta
  21. Okay folks, for the last couple of months I have been swamped with work/travel (mostly for work) so I started slacking off on my attempts to locate these videos and keep them moving. But to be quite honest with ya'll, un-answered PMs, e-mails and phone calls weren't helping either. For those of you that got back to me with the information you did have, THANK YOU VERY MUCH, as for the rest of you that I contacted - I am rather disappointed that you could not take the time to send me a quick note back. Regardless, out of respect for the folks that have been on this list for a ridiculously long time, patiently waiting to view and pass on as agreed by requesting to be on this list, I would appreciate if whoever currently has copies of these would do the following: 1) First and foremost - POST TO THE ORIGINAL THREAD (HERE... CLICK ME CLICK ME!) indicating that you have a copy of the video and when you will be passing it on. 2) Look at the list and figure out if it is accurate as to where you are on it - if not, then in the post that you make for #1, indicate how it ought to be changed (that is either: (a) You have seen the video and passed it on (note who you passed it to as well), (b) you HAVE a copy of the video, © have been contacted by the previous viewer and will receive it). 3) Please be considerate and follow these simple guidelines to be fair to everyone else. What I really hope is that the videos have been making their rounds according to the order listed on the original thread and that folks have just not been updating that they have it and have sent it to **whomever you sent it to**, and that we are making our way through it - but don't worry, I'm not holding my breath on that one. Thanks for your time - thank yous ESPECIALLY to those of you that donated your copy of the video for everyone to learn from :happy65: So again, c'mon folks - lets get these moving again.
  22. OK folks...here is what I'm going to do. The prize will be a $159.00 gift certificate from Motorcycle Gear ( previously New Enough). You can check them out by clicking on their banner when it comes up at the top of the page. Please note, their program has changed and VentureRider ONLY gets credit from them IF you enter their site by clicking on the banner above when making your purchases. Now for the contest. We all know that we share a common interest in motorcycle riding. That is the one thing that brings us all together here. What else do we know about each other though? Some of us know each other better than others due to eats and meets, local rides, etc. There are some that we know hardly nothing about though. So, to be entered in the drawing the for gift certificate, all you have to do is reply to this thread and tell us ONE MORE hobby that you enjoy in addition to motorcycling. It could be gardening, bee keeping, guitar or other instruments, auto racing....whatever but you have to list at least ONE other interest. That's all there is to this one folks. The contest will run until next Friday at midnight. That is Friday the 25th. First thing on Saturday morning I will randomly draw a winner from all who post to this thread with their hobby or interest.
  23. Actually looks pretty cool. Might come in handy for folks who are pushing the envelope of their charging capacity. http://www.webbikeworld.com/r4/dispatch-1/
  24. I found a couple of White Wall Dunlop at Motorcycle Superstorm for $211.98. Are they good folks to deal with? If anyone has dealt with them?
  25. HAPPY NEW YEAR GUYS! Just three hours away from 2011 here. I'm having a quiet one with the pillion (evening, that is) then up early for two days away in the Subie+trailer at my folks old place to finish a clean up. Going to be 100degF+ over the weekend. Thank you all for your camaraderie and friendship in 2010. Look forward to more of the same in 2011. Stay safe.
