  1. Folks, I have a cracked glass cover on the headlight of my 1989 Venture. I can fix it, but I noticed CaptinKirk has a 1984 Venture he is trying to part out to recoup his money. Would the glass headlight cover from his 1984 fit my 89? I think it will not....but I sure would like to help out Captinkirk rather than someone else on ebay. Thanks.
  2. does anyone have the link for the fiberglass cover ?
  3. Got my GPS mounted on my bike, love it but one problem,it is hard to see the screen with the glare.Anyone know where i can a cover to cut the glare.
  4. Is there some sort of plastic/soft rubber cover available for the ventures? I noticed I have a small rock chip/hole in my new to me bike, and thought it might be cheaper to put one of those on than to replace the glass on the headlight. Does anyone have them and do they work....or just get cloudy and hard after a short while? Thanks.
  5. I purchased a Baron's waterpump cover that has the V4 emblem on it. I was wondering what to expect when I pull the cover off. Mainly I'm worried about coolant loss. Will it all come pouring out? If so is it okay to let it pour out, and then just add some more? Thanks.
  6. JUST GOTMY BARONS HANDLBAR RISER'S , SAY'S ON PACKAGE THAT THEY ARE NOT COMPATABLE WITH CHROME ICNITION COVER. DOEWS ANYONE HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH THIS AND WHAT WAS YOUR OUTCOME?:confused24:
  7. Does anyone have one of these on their bike? I have a Corbin seat, but sometimes the butt gets real sore on those long days. I am considering buying a sheepskin seat cover.
  8. There's been some questions in the past as to how to replace the carb diaphrams, so when I did mine last night, I took some pictures, everybody always like pictures, RIGHT? Well here goes the write up: 1) Remove the false tank cover, side covers, side rad covers and loosen the lower faring. Remove the air box lid and the air filter. This would also be a good time to clean the air filter and the air box. You need to do this so you can reach into the carbs later. 2) Identify the part, the diaphragm cover, which has 4 torx screws, the one having a pin in the middle. This was done to make it hard, otherwise everything would be easy and any mechanic could do it. I didn't have one to show you, so you'll have to take my word for it. It can easily be snapped out by using a needle nose pliers or if it's stubborn a small punch. Just work it back and forth once or twice and it will come clean out. 3) Remove all the screws and the cover will pop out by it self, seeing as there is a spring behind it. Save the spring, it will come in handie when you put things back together. 4) Now that you have this area open, it's a good time to use some Carb Cleaner to clean the area, and all the little ports you can see. Finish by blowing out with air. At the bottom you'll see a little built out area that has a rubber ring in it. Be sure to save this ring as well, otherwise it's sure to get itself lost and then you'll have to wait longer for more parts. 5) Inside the diaphram body you'll find a plastic screw, turn it out by turning counter clockwise, that's the opposite way the hands on a clock turn. Under that screw will be another spring, not at all the same as the first spring, but a spring none the less. Keep it handy as well. Under the spring will be the needle assembly. This consists of the needle itself, a 'C' ring and a small washer. Best not to loose these either. They all need to go back in order in the new diaphram. 6) You are now ready to begin the installation of the new diaphram. Make sure that the little washer is mounted on the short side of the needle (#3) and then with a needle nose pliers insert the needle into the new diaphram (#1). Now comes the part where you pay attention. On the collar of the the needle you see a little plastic pin,(#2) this needs to seat in the hole provided for it in the base of the diaphram. Once the needle is inserted into it's rightful location you can very slightly push it back and then by turning it you'll have it find the hole (#5). Now you cannot turn the diaphram over again until the plastic screw is in place, but first you need to put the little spring back in on top of the needle (#6). Then with a needle nose pliers you drop the plastic screw down into the diaphram and with flat screwdriver wiggle it until it jumps into it regular spot, at which time you can gently attempt to turn it into the threads. Sometimes this goes easy, sometimes it takes a bit more time, but don't give up, it will happen. 7) Once you have the diaphram together you can slide it back into the carb. You'll find a tab on the outer edge of the diaphram and that seats into the cutout for in the carb. This is also a good time to remember to put the rubber O ring back in place at the lower end of the carb. To make things easy, fold the diaphram to-wards the carb and seat it in the grove provided for it. Next insert the long spring, that pushed the cover off in the first place, into the diaphram, but do not let it seat the plastic slide into the carb as this will cause it to unseat the rubber from the carb. Now seat the spring in it's approved place on the cover. Do not push it together just yet. 8) Now as you can see, I did mine while the carbs were off the bike, that was because the motor was already out and second gear was under construction. You really don't have to wait until second gear goes or you have to take the engine out for some other reason. This can all be done very nicely right on the bike. So now comes the final process: before you push the cover back into place, put your finger or have someone else place their finger, or use a piece of plastic or steel, (I wouldn't suggest wood as you may get dirt into the carb) into the throat of the carb to prevent the diaphram from sliding in. This will keep the bead seated in it's proper spot. Once the cover is in place and two screws have been inserted and tightened you can withdraw your 'finger' from inside the carb. Now, wasn't that easy?????
  9. Hello Everyone, This is going to be a dumb ?. I just rec`d my K&N Filters and chrome covers. Do the lowers have to come off? Also what holds the chrome piece on? 10. I'm not new to motorcycles but i'm new to the Venture Royale. I just bought an 83 with a little damage, my problem is that I don't the difference between a VXZ and a VXE . My bike was listed as a VXE, it needs a side cover and I',ve found one for a VXZ. Don't laugh but for all I know VXE could have been a miss print. Anyway I need to know so I can bid on the cover if it will fit. Please help! thanks Shaggy Perservere to endure
  11. I need to replace my valve cover gaskets on my 89. Does anyone have a set they want to get rid of or what is a good website for parts, thanks
  12. I started this thread in another section, but thought it might be better here. I have a 1987 Venture Royale and need a few items. Most of these were lifted off the bike while at a shop getting a tune up. Rider and passenger attachable bags 1 Intercom/Radio volume knob Cassette deck cover Left engine side cover vent Needless to say if anyone has a line on these items please let me know.
  13. Sorry guys and gals. Couldn't find anywhere else to post this so I've brought it down to the Watering Hole. Looking for a good read from another part of the world? Have a go at this any time you feel the need. This is the premier motorcycle magazine in Australia. You never know. Those of you talking about coming 'Down Under' for a look-see might just get the push you need. I have every edition of this mag, and it's such a good read - as soon as I get it I sit / lie / slouch etc and overdose on it from cover to cover. One of my few permitted times of not being interrupted by 'She Who Must Be Obeyed!' Y'all enjoy it now, y'hear? http://www.roadrider.com.au/
  14. Hi. What brand of heated grips have y'all used? I've used Hot Grips and they are good, but after a few years the rubber started wearing out and now the wires are showing and the rubber is sticky, and I need a new $100 set of grips. Maybe that's just what happens with rubber. Is there anything else out there? Anything that had a cheaper replacable cover? Thanks, Jeremy

  16. I am not sure what section this should go in since the WTB section I found did not seem to have a new topic tab. So if this is not the right place for it, please move it to the appropriate section. I have a 1987 Venture Royale and need a few items. Most of these were lifted off the bike while at a shop getting a tune up. Rear passenger control module Rider and passenger attachable bags 1 Intercom/Radio volume knob Cassette deck cover Coolant bottle cap (not radiator) Left engine side cover vent 1 engine side cover band (rubber piece holding bottom of cover) Needless to say if anyone has a line on these items please let me know.
  17. Finally got the 91VR home this afternoon. There was some question about the black/gray paint scheme being the original color. I thought it was probably a repaint since evey other 91 I've seen....I think??... is dk.blue on lt.blue. So tell me what you think... The tag on the frame member is gone so I couldn't get the manufacture date. The bike still needs a lot of TLC, but nothing that can't be handled. I think it might have been a Venture Line display bike with all the chrome hanging off of it. The only ding in the plastic is below the right mirror. Luckly it's in the black paint and easy to repair and touch up. I'm looking forward to making it a show piece. Corbin seat and backrest, chrome radiator cover, polished out risers and passenger floorboards, polished out engine covers, woodgrained dash and ignition cover, and lots of Lemon Pledge. Engine runs strong, and brakes and clutch are good. WoooHooo!!!!

  20. I don't know how many others have had the same problem as I did. While on a trip I stopped along the side of the road and had to get my glasses out of the saddle bag to look at the map. Well decided to put the glasses in my pocket rather than back in the bag. Stopped for gas 31 miles later and realized my cover had blown off, forgot to latch it down. Lucky for me we turned around and 15.8 miles back in the middle of the road was my cover, a few scratches but still in good shape.
  21. As you all know, Old Hippy(Chuck), my other half was hit on our 88 in August. We had just purchased a seat skin from coveralls.biz. We hadn't even had a chance to use it and it got mangled with the bike. We needed it to keep our cloth seat dry and clean. We had contacted them when we had to have paperwork for the insurance company, so they knew about the crash. At the time David Rutledge(coveralls) stated that if we got a new bike he would replace the cover free of charge. With everything going on I just let it slip from my mind. Yesterday I received an email from him asking if we had found a bike, that his offer still stood to replace the damaged cover. I now have a brand new one on the way free of charge. Kudos to Coverall.biz. They are a great company and caring. I know Roadkill has spoken to them also. Keep up the great work.

    ripped seat

just bought an 88 venture andthe seat is rippped on the side seam. where can i get a cover or replacement seat.
  23. or, maybe the Kings... I have a dilemma and some of you all have experience I need. I have an 05 RSTD. I recently purchased an 08 Concours. My SO wants to start riding again and she would like a "queen's seat" like on the GW/RSV. I love the 08 Concours for that solo ride and SPORT-touring capability but it's no 2-up mount. There really isn't an option of convincing her to ride on the RSTD. I've owned an 03 RSV and I simply won't buy another until it is updated as I want all the doodads. We have sat on a new Victory Vision and even though it has many features I can't get past an air-cooled motor being mounted in all that plastic nor some elements of the design. I'm also not too interested in HD bikes due to power and noise issues. I'm looking for something electric quiet as my 08 Concours ... I've found I really like that a lot. So, given all this would you convince me not to buy an GW for 2-up riding ? You have any thoughts ? Also, should I sell all my accessories and the RSTD separately ? Is that what you would do ? Here is the list: Luggage Rack Dyna3000 Baron's Reservoir Tach Water Pump Cover Oil Cover Utopia Backrest (may retro to the GV ?) Brake Reservoir Cover Left Side Air Wings Aluminum Radiator Cover BUBs Stock Windshield K&N Filters
  24. I had to change my '99 RSV front brake discs recently and found that the right chrome disc cover has a weight in the inside. I have never really cared for the looks of the covers and was considering not putting them back on but the weight changed my mind. Does anyone know what purpose the weight serves and is it necessary?
  25. Ok some of you have asked for a pictorial explanation on the second gear fix so here is the start. Step 1 remove outer and inner fairings, radiator cover, side coversfalse tank cover. Step2remove the radiator, crashbars, exhaust, pegs, front to back frame bar. This took me 45 min to complete while dinner was cooking. I will post more tomorrow after I get the motor out and split if I can find the problem with the engine as some of you know I am not removing the motor for second gear I am trying to find a noise in the transmission. Jeff Ok the pics wont upoad so I will try again in the morning
