  1. I have an 05 tour deluxe, wondering what is most common cause of cruise control failure?
  2. My 91 VR project is behind me, I finally got to ride my new touring machine and was really impressed by the quality of my ride, many of you where telling me how good the Venture was and with your help, I must agree its a great ride. The motor seems to purr between 4000-5000 RPM and growl above 5000, without noticeable vibrations or hesitations, no back-fire and very smooth. The bike handles better than expected, with proper damper adjustment and air pressure my ride is solid in long sweepers, with no noticeable speed wobbles at +130 km/h, sharp and crisp in rapid curves, I am impressed for a 21 year old touring machine. Braking is top notch with R1 calipers and new rotors, it's all about control and power. Comfort is good, I also love the cruise control, ease of operation and constant speed hold make's it a big plus and helped me get 42 MPG on my first two tankfuls, riding two-up with a 800 pound bike is very good as long as I am concerned. 3 months of hard work and love to bring back life in this machine, with many modifications such as, K&N air filter, fuse upgrade, complete front fork rebuild with progressive springs, complete brake overhaul with R1 calipers, new rotors, stainless brake lines, complete carburetor restoration and mounting computer on top of air filter. One last upgrade is left to do for this year(maybe), is Ignitech computer upgrade to replace my 21 year old black box, I did receive unit and will be installing unit next week with Dingy's help(Got a new laptop), this should also help to increase response and control of motor operation. Mike
  3. Anyone ever try and diagnose or repair the auto volume microphone in the 1st gen. ? Mine was working until this week. Possible that I got water in it washing the bike. Or I changed out my speakers. Pulled the radio and both side panels to install them. Also installed a noise filter on the C.B. I got used to the auto volume. JB
  4. Since I don't use my audio equipment, this afternoon I got busy yanking some of my 93 apart (multiple things are going on at once). I've got the amp equipment removed. No problems there. This is what I'm thinking of doing. The mute switch on the handlebar audio controls (what IS that box called, anyway?) is a 2-position simple on/off switch. When I convert my headlight to HID, that switch would function nicely as my on/off control for the headlight, eh? So I traced the wire routing and got that whole box and connector removed from the bike and now it sits on the bench. Buuuttt.... there doesn't seem to be an easy way of disassembling the thing further than where I've got it now (see photo), and I have no idea which wires go to which switching devices in there. I looked for other threads concerning this, but I can't seem to find anything quite this detailed. I don't suppose any of our long term members have been down this road before and perhaps somebody has a pinout of this whole switch control? Dingy? Dingy? DDDIIINNNGGGYYY???????
  5. Has anyone installed this brand of cruise control on a 83VR? It has been used on other bikes but I can't find and info foe the Venture.
  6. I'm needing the control knob for the Squelch Control on the CB. I think the Off/On volumn CB control knob is the same. If anyone has one to sell please PM me.
  7. Caution - - this is a very disturbing video of a vehicle that lost control on what looks to be a slippery 4-lane road and got clocked by an on-coming 18-wheeler. Not sure why this driver lost control (were they texting or impaired in some way? Who knows....), but regardless, I'm posting it to keep us all aware that you just can't be too careful. The only thing that gives any solace to this is that the folks in the SUV never knew what hit them. It's a total explosion. Please be safe out there! http://rmirror.net/r/videos/comments/q5hu9/car_accident_nsfl/
  8. The choke on my 84 works. The bike starts & runs ok BUT the control won't stay on choke. I have to manually hold the contol towards choke until the bike warms up. The previous owner had a tiny bungee on it, but again my neurosis can't accept the bungee there. Is there any way to fix or adjust the twist choke control?
  9. I recently picked up 2 identical gold Venture 1200's for $1000. I was pretty excited with my purchase since only 1 thing that was wrong really caught my eye. Neither of them have the cruise control like my 85 1200 did. I was wondering if it would be possible to get the necessary parts from a newer venture, or even buy the royale star venture cruise to modify to work for my bike. I have a spare wiring harness that was designed for the CB but i do not know if it has the correct plug for the cruise control. Any information or if anyone has done this and could lend me some advice would be much appreciated!!! Thank you! -CJ
  10. My 96 Royal has passing lamps. Looking at the owner's manual, there is supposed to be a switch located somewhere in or around the left handlebar control. I assume it is supposed to be a momentary switch that only turns the lights on when the switch is pushed and held? Is this switch part of the control housing, or is it mounted externally? Whoever mounted the lights on the bike added a toggle switch to the left light housing. I can't even reach the switch unless I stand in front of the bike. Can anyone post pictures of the proper switch for me? Anyone know of a source for it?
  11. After having to go back to the eye surgeon and having to deal with a detached retina, instead of seeing some improvement, it has got worse. I called the Dr's office yesterday and they told me to come in immediately. It has now been determined that my loss of sight in my right eye is due to a lack of adequate blood flow. Unfortunately, this is not fixable. And, this goes back to being type 2 diabetic for 30 years and not always doing a good job keeping it in good control. After my marriage separation and divorce and losing about 50 pounds, I was able to get my diabetes in such good control that I had my A1C in the 6.4 range, which is very good, and that was after going off insulin. After my last A1C creeping back up to 8.3, I have now gone back on insulin. I have gained a few pounds back, but with this eye problem, loosing my job and dealing with some depression, I have not been getting the exercise I was getting. Now, my primary concern is to try to keep the other eye healthy. RandyA
  12. Put the 06 in shop today days before the warranty is up. My radio control head has been locking up. I took it there about a month ago and they could not duplicate problem. When i took it today It locked up right there in front of the service writer and a tech. both siad it looked like it would need a new control head. This is the first troubles i have had with my venture. Knock on wood
  13. My Venture '86 Royale cruise control is acting up. While on the highway I set it on and five seconds later it disengages itself. Any suggestions?
  14. Has anyone had problems with their radio not producing sound. When I turn ther key on I hear like a pop and that is all i get. While it was still under warrenty the dealer fixed the volue control oN the handle bars. I checked the fuse. it is good so now I dont know what to do next. :Please help if you can.
  15. I purchased my 89VR (26500 miles now) a little over a year ago and the previous owner said the cruise control was made inoperable at the shop because he heard of a friend that got in an accident due to using the cruise control, so he said. I have no reason not to believe the reason. I would like to make it useable again. I share this thinking that one may proceed in a different manor than if it just malfunctioned. Your suggestions would be helpful if I could receive help from the simple to the more complex. On the road I press the cruise button on and it lights up green. Then I set the cruise and nothing. I have used the cruise on a 91VR, so I have some operation knowledge. Suggestions welcome. Thanks.
  16. My CD player stopped working. I split the fairing and checked the connection there and while I was at it, I put the dielectric grease on all the connectors. Everything seems to be properly connected, but the cd selection does not come up on the control panel. Is there a separate fuse for the cd player? It worked great when we used it last in August.
  17. Im going to look at an 05 Venture for sale and the owner says the cruise stopped working. Are there any normal issues I should look for ? Is the cruise control reliable on these bikes or problematic ? Any info would be greatly appreciated Thanks
  18. Hi Guys, There was a thread I found when I first got on this sight 2 months ago that explained how to determine where to look for problems in the cruise control path based on the cruise control light sequence when you turn it on. I've since not been able to find it again. If someone could direct me to it, or explain the troubleshooting sequence of the lights, it would be appreciated. Also getting about 30 MPG, no difference interstate or around town. Where do I look 1st? Thanks for all and any help. Ed
  19. When I put the Barons risers on I had to reroute my throttle cables. while doing so I had to disassemble the part where all the cables come together on the left side behind the neck cover, 5 in all,( 2 in, 2 out and the cable coming up from the cruise servo). When I opened the housing that little clockspring popped out before I could see how tight it's wound . Put it back together with 1 turn on it and now my cruise control won't set. All the dash lights say it's working but it doesn't hold the throttle. Any advice from the RSV tech gods would be awesome. My 1550 mile ride last weekend would have been much more enjoyable with a working cruise control.
  20. Has anyone encountered THIS one before? At the end of the season last fall I had my lines and cables switched over to black braided steel which look good, feels good.. However, at the end of the season, I was no longer able to engage cruise control on the bike, either in 5th or 4th no matter what I did.. the lights would cycle through but when you released the throttle it wouldn't engage and then start the lights cycling all over again as if you hit a huge bump that disengaged it.. I have a very deep suspicious feeling that this started due to something the Yammy shop forgot to hook up or broke or pooched somehow. I KNOW it worked before going into the shop but stopped working after I got it back from the shop, but it was a few weeks afterward before I actually tried to use it.. I'll pulling the tank off the bike this week to change plugs, so now is the opportune time to have a look to see if anything is amiss.. Can't ride the bike yet, still winter up here.. but if there is something I can check now, I would certainly appreciate any help forthcoming.. I don't know what to look for at this point.. I'm gonna NEED my Cruise Control for the big trip in May lol Thanks again M8
  21. My cruise control kept failing for some unknown reason. Was driving me nuts trying to figure it out. I ended up stumbling across a post somewhere in the forum saying that it could very well be the leather streamers that so many of us install on our clutch & brake levers. Just the resistance thru the wind when travelling is enough to cause cruise control failure/interupt. No problems now that I changed the streamers to the handle bar. What a great info forum.... Bobby
  22. I posted this a few days ago on the Tech Forum and appreciate the responses from the few that tried to help out but no solutions has been found yet, so now I'm putting it out here for all to see. Maybe you have had this problem before and already know the answer, we'll see. Ok, here's the problem. When I turn up the volume to about 15 on the radio control, that's about as high as I need to go without being too loud in my headsets. At the same time my wife has to turn hers( the rear control) to max to be able to hear at all when we are out riding. I thought it might be in the helmet but it does this with different helmets. I've even taken one helmet and hooked it up to the front, adjusted the volume to where it almost too loud for me, unhooked it and plugged it in to the rear, and still have to turn it to max to be able to hear anything. This is on a 09 RSV. I thought it might be in the connections in the fairing, so I took them all apart, inspected , cleaned, put on some dielectric grease, but the problem remains. Really don't want to take it back to the stealer, I've been burned too many times! I guess I need also to mention, it's not got anything to do with the brand of headsets since I've tried IMC, Edsets, and some really cheap brands. The result is always the same. Anyone else had this problem???? Is this a common problem? I do have Mic-Mutes installed but I had this problem even before they were installed. One possible solution was to use the fader control for front to rear volume adjustment , but to my knowledge this only works with the onboard speakers. Once you plug in the headsets, the option goes away on the control module. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
  23. For years I used a Cannon AE-1 film camera that I have from 24mm to 405mm lenses. I took a lot of pictures and felt I had a great deal of control of the pictures I took. Now, I have an L110 Nikon digital that takes good pictures, but even with all the different settings the camera has, I feel I have very little control of the camera. It also frustrates me that the camera does not always respond instantly to when I push the button. I must admit that I like the immediate view of the taken picture and the ability to load the picture on my computer and view it and send it around the world very quickly and the ability to delete the picture without burning film. But, I am still not happy with the general use if the Nikon. I hate to kind of "dumb down" on my photographs, but that seems to be the trend on many of the digitals. Do others also have this problem? RandyA
  24. I'm a control freak. There. I said it. This means I am not a good passenger, I want to be in control because then I cannot be mad at anyone but me if something untoward happens. I rode, for the first time, on the back of a moto with my husband. I have ridden behind before, but never with Tom. I'm not sure if it's a trust issue or what, but today I decided to give it a try and trust that he won't do stupid things and kill me. It was fun after about 20 minutes. There were some twisties and I've always thought he takes curves to fast, so I just closed my eyes and turned my head toward the curve, so I didn't try and correct with my body. Ended up being a nice ride, my weight on the bike allowed him to be closer to flat feet so he was stable at stops (my biggest concern). We might even do it again!
  25. Bike has 6000 miles on it and just yesterday I began having probs with the cruise control. It'll turn on, but when I set it, it will hold momemtarily then kick off. I tried it a few different times, sometimes it would engage after a couple of tries, but it'd only hold a minute or so before kicking back off. I know it's supposed to be under warrenty, but if I could fix it myself I'd rather do that. I hate letting people work on my stuff. Any ideas? tks in advance!
