  1. I don't know if something similar been done and shared on this forum before, but I thought I would share my attempt to light up my RSV. I am starting with the saddlebag rails, by cutting, bending and installing a piece of acrylic into the rail opening and attaching several LED pods on each. I used a small heat gun to form the acrylic into the shape of the saddlebag rails and trimmed both pieces to fit into the respective rail opening. Only took three (3) tries to get an acceptable specimen, which I used to create a cardboard template for future pieces. After trimming to fit, I fitted the insert with chrome body molding which presents an almost custom appearance once the piece is inserted inside the chrome rail opening. The chrome molding fits just about perfectly, except for some minor puckering on the curve edges. A little splicing and adhesive will make for an acceptable finish. I found some 3/4" plastic clamps at Menards which I will fit around the rail and affix to the acrylic to hold it in place. A coat of primer and a coat of chrome paint makes the clamp almost inconspicuous. I ordered a set of dual mode amber LED lights from a seller on ebay. A lot of eight lights was $38.00 plus $7.55 shipping. The dual mode will allow me to use the lights as combination running and turn signal lights. I was able to put four (4) lights on each acrylic insert, i.e., 3 on the side and 1 in the rear. Each light is affixed to the acrylic with two (2) small screws. Below are several pictures of the insert with lights in place. I will install them on the bike tomorrow, if I can stop riding the bike long enough. I will take more pictures then. The total costs for this project was less than $75.00 and could easily be done in an afternoon by the more experienced craftsman. I estimate my total time commitment through the end of this project will be approximately 12 hours, including making inserts for my brother-in-law's RSV. He is going with a different light configuration on the acrylic inserts. My next step is to move up to the trunk and fabricate a piece of acrylic to extend down from the trunk where I will affix LEDs that will be used as a combination running light and braking light. I would appreciate any thoughts, concerns and suggestions. jarrejx
  2. I am looking to remove my passenger floor boards as I don't see being 2 up any time soon (wife isn't into riding) and I was wondering if anyone has figured out a plug to cover the holes that would be left behind. I know there is a chrome piece to fit in place of the black cover that has chrome plugs but my RSTD is a midnight and I would like to leave the black cover and find some kind of plug in black. Any thoughts or ideas?
  3. I purchased a Show Chrome radiator cover from JC Whitney. Catalogue said it would fit all 2nd generation Ventures. I have a 2007. When I opened the box to install the instructions say it will fit 1999-2002 only. Called JC Whitney and they called Show Chrome who said it might fit or it might need slight modification. Since I have to dismantle quite a few parts to install I would like to know for sure if it will fit. I like the look of the cover (only one I have found in chrome). Has anyone purchased and installed one of these. If so, will it fit as is or what kind on modification if not. Thanks.
  4. I am wondering what the billet clutch and alternator cover looks like installed?I seems you would be putting chrome on chrome.I would appreciate any feedback or pics.I have a 2006 RSTD.
  5. I looked all over the place but did not see this answer...so if it is a repeat...I appoligize. I have been torn over whether to install the chrome Air Filter covers on the RSV...I see on this site where some has had problems with chrome pealing off and the cost is a big issue. Yamaha says will warranty all accessory parts for 1 year, gee I figure something that small that cost close to $300 for the set just for looks ought to have more warranty than that. I really like the look...but so far I have not got up the courage to make that purchase. But they look so good... I know it is coming in the future and I found the K&N Air Filters at a steal of $74 for the pair so I jumped on them. Best I could find else where was around $101. I understand you need the K&N filtes for the new chrome covers. Not sure why at this point. Now I have a set of K&N Air filters and no chrome air filter covers. I was wondering...can you use the K&N filters with the stock air filter covers? I know I put a K&N stock replacement air filter in my VW Jetta TDI diesel and gained about 2 MPG, that pushed me up over 50 MPG mark, so it has gotta help if I can use the on the RSV. Thanks, Mike
  6. I saw an episode of MythBusters last week. They put "cola" and aluminum foil up against some readily available chrome cleaner. Their conclusion was the cola and foil cleaned better and removed rust stains better than the chrome cleaner from the auto parts store. Only problem was the sticky soda residue. I normally use NeverDull. What do you use?

  8. Hey was wondering if anyone knew a price for the chrome rotar covers with the light on it and the price on the chrome part that goes over the brake cylinder behind the the rotars on the handlebars. Both are ventureline parts from 1st gen. I know they are hard to get. Thx, Meatloaf:banana:
  9. here are a few of my winter projects i have finished cool key chrome around the gas tank switch block led's
  10. My wife, er I mean Santa, brought me a set of chrome passenger floorboards. They sure do shine. Makes those stock boards look rather ugly. Here's a couple of photos. Dennis
  11. One thing I don't have in my room. The chrome edges that go right below the mirrors. Trying to figure out way to cut these out of good chrome tape. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I have one set on Black Beauty, wonder if I could pull them and trace them some how? This is the spot on the farings that is first to catch anything and is first spot to make contact if you lay it down. As I did first day I owned "Ugly" Didn't make it out of the town where I bought her. Hadn't been on a Venture in a while and put my foot down in a big pool of oil.You know the rest. And this bike had never been dropped!! Is there anywhere you can still get these things??
  12. Are any Midnight seat sets made without the chrome studs?
  13. would anyone like a chrome bezzel for a second gen ignition i bout this installed it and relize the aftermaket key i have wont work so i will give it away to who ever would give this piece of chrome a good home.
  14. Ladies and gents: I have seen several recommendation here on the forum regarding the wide chrome muffler clamps. The clamps that Baron's gave me for my 4-2-4's are a best just "OK". And they are not wide enough to cover the slits in the slip-ons. The links provided (I have tried several) are no longer any good. But here is my real question, "Do those things have a 'lip' on them? It would seem to me if they do that it would have to be ground down to completely slip over the 4-2-4's. Any help is appreciated. Shep OK - more searching and I found the answer: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=26489
  15. I am posting this up for Wingman, Jamie French. He is having to part with his beloved 2005 GW and matching trailer, anyone that has seen this bike knows the care that has been taken, it has regular service by a local shop here and is in immaculate condition. It has never been in an accident or dropped. This is a beautiful bike and has been well cared for. This GW has plenty of chrome accessories and tons of led's. It has am/fm, cd changer, cb radio with rear control, ring of fire light on front wheel and so much more and has custom pin striping. The pictures are posted, the bike is pretty dirty since he rode it last in the rain. All the chrome is Kurakyn all professionally done by the local Georgia Trike shop, which is where Jamie has all his service done. Also note that the trailer is painted and stripped to match the bike. Sure wish I had the bucks to take it off his hands. This is gonna be a deal for some lucky soul. Price with trailer is $13,500.00 Jamie can be contacted at 770-714-7190. If you have difficulty reaching him you can pm me or call me, my number is listed on the VR assistance list.
  16. Trying to brainstorm an idea. Is there anyone out there that has connections or resources to having ABS plastic chrome plated? I've serched on the web and there are several out there that do this and in several was. My idea was to "bling" up the air cleaner covers. Much like the way you can get the chrome Ignition cover for the RSV. I know there air the billet covers offered by Yamaha, but costly as well as having to get the K&N air filters. One quot I got was having both covers chrome plated very much the same way you would have metal chrome plated for $85 to $105 each. Have contacted several other companies out there but have not gotten any answers yet!! Just thinking there might be someone here that might know someone or a buisness locally that might be able to do it for a little less!!! Thanks, Dennis
  17. While waxing my new '08 Venture S, I noticed a chrome piece of metal over the top of the rear jug on the left side (sitting on bike) and there is not one on the right side. Is this piece missing and if not, what is it's purpose. The only purpose I can see is it makes it hard to get to the seat nut on that side and easy on the other. I can't sleep wondering if my baby is missing on of her chrome pieces.
  18. Has anyone found an after market chrome radiator cover that will fit a 07 RSV? I had LED lights installed for night riding and would like to have some chrome up front to light up the front end. The cover that I have found on line says it will fit only 99-05. It appears there may have been some change from 05 t0 07 regarding the radiator (anyone know if this is true). Thanks in advance.
  19. Anyone know where I can get the chrome strips that fit on the outside edge of the front fairing on the first gen just below the mirrors? What is the official name for them? More chrome! More chrome! Iowa Guy
  20. I'm 5' 8" and have stock RSV 2008. The Chrome Filler Cap reflection on Windshield is annoying and not Safe at times. What have some of you "seasoned" RSV Riders 2nd Geners doing about it? I think maybe a Dark Beverage Can Cooler cut off the bottom and invert it over the Chrome Filler Cap? Ideas?
  21. Okay guys, I know chrome and wide whites look great on Midnights, Black cherry, blue/black and Charcoal, but mine is the 04 White with the "bluish white cocktail". I hate the blue tint. I am gonna go for the street rod look. Already removed the emblems, the "eyebrows", the tank bib, and the stock chrome horn. Tape deck has been removed. RK mufflers. Moved the headset connector from the tank up to the handlebars under the radio. A painter owes me, I just need to remove body parts and strip the clear and stripes. My ideas at the moment are bright white, or Chevy Victory Red with Black accents to match my truck, or maybe Matte Black with Bright Red wheels and Rotors! Regardless, the dash will be Matte Black. Does anyone else have trouble with the white reflecting onto the windshield? I have the front rotor covers on my list. Will these be as hard to break the bolts loose as when I had to replace the rear rotor? Those I had to heat with a torch to break the loctite. I am looking for ideas to remove any other unnecessary chrome. Will fenders from a RSTD interchange? I would trade my fenders with mascot and standard chrome tips for fenders without holes! Will the RSTD tank interchange. Don't they have a "bulge" instead of the tank bib? I like that and would trade mine with factory rubber bib! Maybe one of you RSTD guys want the flat top tank for a mural!!!! Alright then, unload your cool ideas on me!
  22. I noticed that some members bikes have a rack on the "gas tank" cover that actually covers the battery and air cleaner a little chrome rach that is similar to that on the trunk. Is that an aftermarket item or is it a part of the royale trim out package? I'd like to add one to my bike to make a tank bag easier to attach.
  23. Hey folks, got me a new bike! Looks to be a 1986 Venture Royale. A bit of polish and some Sea Foam and good to go. Actually, I am going to go fetch it and tear it down for spares. (It was the only way to get the chrome fender bottom) JB
  24. I want to cover the drive shaft, looked @ maybe using a chrome exhaust plate with clamps behind it but haven't committed to that yet ,thought about having it all chromed, but my latest experience with chromers hasn't been so good (whole other story) but I was wondering has anyone tried anything or saw something that might work that one spot has been bothering me for a while so I gotta chrome it
  25. OK,with all the chrome I have on my bike I noticed I did not have Chrome Brake and clutch levers..My Question, where can I get the ABSOLUTE best looking and best chrome and where can I get them? Thanks,Tom
