1. Thanks to Sleeperhawk for my first Chrome on the new ride. http://lh3.ggpht.com/_xOOWRVc9-a4/SfZNMX1PxRI/AAAAAAAAAs0/oHCJDwpnC14/1stChrome.jpg Rear air assist valve stem cover. I love it.
2. I just bought a Show Chrome windshield. Is there anything that I shouldn't use on it? I plan to use mostly water and pledge to clean it. Does car wash soap hurt them? Thanks, John
3. this is what they look like when you cut the center out with a haxsaw:farmer:
4. Well, with all the nice weather approaching, and plans for rides in the making, I was checking over my bike, looking for anything amiss. And I found it. In reality it is not a big deal, but I will tell you what it is. I have been trying to dress up my 2006 RSTD since I bought it new last year. I have added many chrome bits, for safety reasons of course. ISO grips, LED tail light, chrome shifter pegs etc. And a chrome rear brake pedal. You can see the attached picture. It is chrome, with 3 rubber strips for traction. Well, 1 of the rubber strips has come off, and is lost and most likely lonely and scared along the side of some random road in Ontario. I noticed this today. I checked the other 2 strips, and they are hanging on by the slightest of threads it feels like. I will certainly have to remove them before my next ride. Now, the brake pedal will still function without the rubber strips I am sure. But here is the thing. I went to check the site that I bought the pedal from, to see if they still had them in stock, I was going to complain, and ask for a replacement, or see if it qualified for warranty. But I noticed something. On the same page the pedal is listed on, there are replacement rubber strips and glue available. What strikes me is, the rubber is NOT designed to fall off I am sure, but it happens so often, that they sell replacements, should Yamaha not redesign it so that this common problem is solved, rather than "re-sell" a fix? Do you know what I mean? It is clear from the 1 missing piece, that the adhesive does NOT stick to the highly polished chrome coating. If I do decide to buy replacements, do you think I should just scuff up the area covered by the rubber with a dremel or is there a better way to adhere it? I am going to remove the other rubber pieces later, and who knows, maybe I will like the look of solid chrome. I am not sure if I will noticed the lower traction, but I cannot see my foot slipping off the brake pedal. What do you think I should do? Ask for a replacement, or just suck it up and buy the replacement rubbers and glue? Sonny
5. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1983-Yamaha-Venture-XVG1200-DELUXE-TOURER-First-1199_W0QQitemZ260389134242QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_motorcycles?hash=item260389134242&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72%3A317|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318 What a description. Almost makes the two pictures worth it. I wish I had an aftermarket chrome radiator cover like that one.
6. Droped my bike off at Pioneer Motorsports Thursday for a set of new skins. The plan was to pick it up today with member Buffalo Bodnar..He was going there to pick up some safety chrome that had come in for him...Left here around noon for the 45 min. ride down..Little did we know that they were having a freak storm dumping around 6 inches of snow on them..........we deciced to take the back roads thru hill country to get there...HOLY C#@P BATMAN..Before we knew it we were in a middle of a white out and on an unplowed road...Buffalo Bodnar never saw the drift we were about to hit that sent us spinning out of control just while an oncoming car was approaching...ALL I can tell you that I am greatful for the manufacturers of "DEPENDS"..they really work...Good driving Ken:whistling:..we did make it to PIONEER and passed a couple of bad accidents on the way...hope no one was hurt in them....by the way , Kenny got his shinny new chrome and my ride is still sitting there.....I learned a very important lesson today...DONT GET IN A VEHICLE WHEN BUFFALO BODNAR IS DRIVING!!!!!!!!!!!!:rotf:
7. I've decided to sell the chrome rotor covers I have and one set of caliper covers once I decide which set I want to keep. Rotor covers have had lights removed and are slightly scratched from someone trying to clean them up. Just never got around to installing them. Got to decide if I want to keep original Ventureline caliper covers or aftermarket ones I currently have on the bike. Will post pictures as soon as I can find my camera.
8. Hello all, I purchased a Clearview windshield on ebay and installed it. The only thing I noticed is that the chrome mole (36) 4XY-28345-00-00 MOLE does not fit tightly against the shield. Has anyone installed a Clearview windshield, and is there a trick or something? Thanks, John
9. Got a few items I'll be selling that were part of purchases I made on ebay that I don't need and will part with if someone needs them. PM me for pics/info Chrome bumper with light off an 87 VR $50.00 + shipping Chrome extension for rear of front fender $20.00 + shipping(sold) 3 piece windshield trim for 83-85 $10.00+ shipping Left turn signal assembly 86-93 $10.00+ shipping(sold) One chrome fairing intake(rt side?) $15.00+ shipping(sold) Be patient with me, having computer problems, will respond to everyone as soon as I can get things worked out.
10. Hello all, I purchased a set of saddlebag guards and I was lining them up and noticed that there is a chrome plug where the guard's rear bolt would attach the guard to the chrome mount. Since I am less mechanically inclined then I care to admit, but without cash to have someone else do it, my question is do I have to take the chrome mounting off the bike to get the chrome plug out? Thanks, John.
11. ...the rear left hand cylinder? It seems to weep from the valve cover and every now and then I see drips on the chrome cover below. It's oily (not too bad) right above the exhaust flange.
12. Since I have become a member of this site I have lost most of my morals. I am almost morally and financially bankrupt. I have lied, stolen, cheated and pillaged to maintain my RSV to the standards of this group. Sneaking parts packages into the house and hiding them. Going for weeks without food and drink to buy the next hot item someone else has on their RSV. Having the mailman hide my packages in the garage for me if im not around. Having parts shipped to friends houses to avoid a divorce. It might be a year before my wife sees a "new" part on the bike and askes where that came from. aND TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, SOMEONE ON THIS SITE CANT WAIT TILL I KICK THE BUCKET SO HE CAN TAKE MY BIKE and MY WIFE!!! My life is in ruins thanks to you all..........And yet, I just cant stop.........I need my daily fix here at this site.....plus stainless steel lines....a V-Max rear end.....chrome forks.....custom paint....Foose wheels........Corbin seat..........more chrome.......more lights......more, more, more...arrggghhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! IT DOESNT END!!!!!!!!!!!:starz: So in the immortal words of Henny Youngman...take my wife please! Help me please..... :bawling:
13. Pulled the bike out of winter storage tonight & started to install a Show Chrome "plastic" gas tank/ignition cover. While installing I noticed that when the handlebars are turned all the way either direction (as they were getting it out of the corner), the risers push into this cover quite a bit, and it did it with the stock black piece also. This Show Chrome piece is much more brittle than stock though. I'm wondering if it's going to crack/shatter the first time I crank the bars over all the way. Anybody that has one have any issues with it? Thanks for the info...JR
14. I was wondering if anybody knew what part number is the METAL Chrome Rear Fender Tip Called a FLAP I DO NOT want the plastic one. STR-4NL-21621-10-00 (FLAP) And there is another part number that is ----------STR-4YE-2626-92 (FLAP) Thanks for any help. Jeff
15. saw this on ebay and thought someone on here might be looking for that rare piece of chrome that comes along every once and again. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=360137490337
16. Does anyone have one of the shouldered spacers that is required for the installation of the chrome rotor covers?
17. Has anyone ever thought about having their VR Rims chromed?, or would it even work? Just a thought.
18. Since my accident last summer, I've been storing take-off parts. Now I need the room in the garage. I will eventually try to get them listed in the classifieds as time permits. If you are interested in anything, PM me and we'll see what we can do. Here is some of what I have: rear chrome tip for front fender, highway light bar-just the bar, headlight bezel, rt front brake assembly, left saddle bag, quick detach brackets from windshield, windshield, chrome windshield medallions with gaskets, rt passenger floorboard, and a few more! Even though this isn't the classifieds, time is limited and I thought this would be the fastest way to get word out so that parts can get to new bikes before spring. Thanks! Mark
19. So I have decided to remove the passenger seat and pillion. I don't do any 2 up since my wife is deathly afraid of motorcylces. I was originally going to get the rear fender rack, but wanted to avoid more chrome (I know, I know, bikes are supposed to have chrome) because I like the look of the black and I think chrome take away from it (IMHO). So after some thought and inputs from my wife, I came up with a new idea. Had a piece of 3/8 smoked plexiglass from an old stereo cabinet in my collection of stuff I never throw out. Took some measurements, did a little online research and came up with a plan. I cut the piece to size, sanded and buffed all the scratches out. Cleaned up the edges and then warmed up the piece in the oven at 270 for 30 min (did some test pieces to figure out the right time). Took the warm piece to the covered fender and molded it to fit. After it cooled, I drilled out the holes, put some spacers in. I couldn't find the right size screw for the back and Home Depot, have to try another place. Below is the end result. Total cost, $3.75 in spacers and screws. Next step is to get the "STAR" laser engraved on the back. Should look good.
20. Drove down to the St Louis area to pick this bike up. Packed the kids in the car, rented a U-Haul 6x9 trailer, and headed down Friday after work. Stayed in a cheap hotel, purchased the bike, then went to the St Louis zoo for a few hours to let the kids play. Exhausting trip, but I think it was the best Valentine's Day I've ever had. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Venture/100_0776.jpg I bought it from the second owner, who installed: Backrest Handlebar risers Trunk Rack Hopnel Tank Bib Headlight visors Lighted license plate frame Chrome engine mount covers Chrome master cylinder covers Chrome carb covers Chrome front fender rail Celestar Radiator Grille Saddlebag Trim rails Passing lights LED accent lights Kuryakyn ISO Pegs Star Trunk Rack Bag Samson Silver Bullet Fishtail Slip-ons 32,000 miles with brand new Dunlops. I picked it up for $7100. I took it for a ride around the block today. Aside from the 20 degree weather I really enjoyed it! Now all I have to do is wait for the warmer weather Al Gore promised me. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Venture/100_0772.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Venture/100_0775.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Venture/100_0776.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Venture/100_0777.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Venture/100_0778.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Venture/100_0780.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Venture/100_1751.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Venture/100_1750.jpg
21. I am looking to remove my passenger floor boards as I don't see being 2 up any time soon (wife isn't into riding) and I was wondering if anyone has figured out a plug to cover the holes that would be left behind. I know there is a chrome piece to fit in place of the black cover that has chrome plugs but my RSTD is a midnight and I would like to leave the black cover and find some kind of plug in black. Any thoughts or ideas?
22. I purchased a Show Chrome radiator cover from JC Whitney. Catalogue said it would fit all 2nd generation Ventures. I have a 2007. When I opened the box to install the instructions say it will fit 1999-2002 only. Called JC Whitney and they called Show Chrome who said it might fit or it might need slight modification. Since I have to dismantle quite a few parts to install I would like to know for sure if it will fit. I like the look of the cover (only one I have found in chrome). Has anyone purchased and installed one of these. If so, will it fit as is or what kind on modification if not. Thanks.
23. I am wondering what the billet clutch and alternator cover looks like installed?I seems you would be putting chrome on chrome.I would appreciate any feedback or pics.I have a 2006 RSTD.
24. I looked all over the place but did not see this answer...so if it is a repeat...I appoligize. I have been torn over whether to install the chrome Air Filter covers on the RSV...I see on this site where some has had problems with chrome pealing off and the cost is a big issue. Yamaha says will warranty all accessory parts for 1 year, gee I figure something that small that cost close to $300 for the set just for looks ought to have more warranty than that. I really like the look...but so far I have not got up the courage to make that purchase. But they look so good... I know it is coming in the future and I found the K&N Air Filters at a steal of $74 for the pair so I jumped on them. Best I could find else where was around $101. I understand you need the K&N filtes for the new chrome covers. Not sure why at this point. Now I have a set of K&N Air filters and no chrome air filter covers. I was wondering...can you use the K&N filters with the stock air filter covers? I know I put a K&N stock replacement air filter in my VW Jetta TDI diesel and gained about 2 MPG, that pushed me up over 50 MPG mark, so it has gotta help if I can use the on the RSV. Thanks, Mike
25. I saw an episode of MythBusters last week. They put "cola" and aluminum foil up against some readily available chrome cleaner. Their conclusion was the cola and foil cleaned better and removed rust stains better than the chrome cleaner from the auto parts store. Only problem was the sticky soda residue. I normally use NeverDull. What do you use?
