  1. Going to have to jump the bike to get home tonight. Batt. was dead earlier today, put a short charge on it and it fired up. Rode it to work, (32 miles on hwy) figuring it should be ok. Four hours later, it won't start. Jumped it from a car battery (car not running) and it fired right up. Have not tested yet, but I am pretty sure it is the battery and not the charging system. It is the original battery - 3 yrs and 1 month. What is the part number for the battery and what CCA do I need. I am at work and don't really have time to investigate all this. Thanks
  2. Can you see the motorcycle. Check out the PICS one at a time The Honda crotch rocket rider was traveling at approximately 85 mph. The VW driver was talking on a cell phone when she pulled out from a side street, apparently not seeing the motorcycle. The riders reaction time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident.. The car had two passengers and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them. The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact and landed 20 feet from where the collision took place. All three involved (two in the car and the bike rider) were killed instantly. This graphic demonstration was placed at the Motorcycle Fair by the Police and Road Safety Department. You have to remember they will pull out in front of you. Don't overdrive your brakes and lights
  3. I know that new bearings on big machinery can get a bit hot, sometimes to the point of boiling the grease, until they wear in. Just wondered about smaller ones, like say car or m/c wheel bearings? My guess is they do to some extent & I bet some of you guys will know for sure. Tony.

    Car mirrors

I must admit to having had MY car set up improperly. Take less than 2 minutes to properly adjust the mirrors on your car, saving both your life and others. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwzUE6PHk4U]YouTube- AutoFocus - Are your car mirrors adjusted correctly?[/ame]
  5. I seen a pole on the age of technicians and was amazed that most of us 68% have been at it for 30 Plus years and less then 15 % have been doing it 20 years or less. Where is the pool of technicians for the future going to come from. How many of you make your living working on Car, Truck, Bus, Motorcycle, and Boat? How many are ASE certified? How many work at a dealership? How many work at independent shop? How many work for the government? And how long? I would just like to know. Me I am a School bus technicians ASE Master Auto, Truck, Bus, L1, L2 10 years Cadillac 8 years custom car building 12 years fleet on large trucks and buses
  6. Went to pick up my repaired laptop , going down a two lane (country road), the red Expedition in front of me was making a right turn on what I assumed was a gravel drive. Hard to tell from my position and the lay of the land. The right shoulder went straight down 10-15 feet. I'm almost at a stop and looking in my mirror I see a car hauling ass coming up on me. Can't go right, it's a hole and that would hurt; can't go left, oncoming car, that would hurt even more. The Expedition is starting to turn but not nearly fast enough, By then I hear the wheels on the car lock up, a quick look in the mirror shows the car starting to slide, I decided to just look ahead. didn't want to see him hit me:confused24: Which didn't happen, thank goodness. got to practice my french though. Probably some redneck prikweed talking on the cellphone.......
  7. I dont often Get pissed off Im ready to blow at some one But This Morning and Im still Fuming Prior to buying the scoot I personally contacted MTO here in Sudbury And They told me That if I bought The Motorcycle I had to trailer here. for 2 weeks I have been searching a way to get the trailer and scoot down here Its 8 hours from here. I got the scoot and trailer registered in Ontario and Insured Well I just happened to run in to my retire Police buddy and He tells me this After buying the car, you will register it in your name in Quebec. You will register it as an "export" sale and get temporary licence plates allowing you to drove the car to Ontario. Because of the export status of the registration, Quebec will not charge provincial tax. Once in Ontario, you must register the car again, to get Ontario plates. This is where you will pay tax: the Ontario 8% sales tax. Note that the car must pass the safety inspection before you can get plates.:doh::doh: Anybody in Ontario Know how I can go around This???
  8. I have been a little distracted lately - last month a kid with a learner's permit made an illegal turn in front of my wife and totaled our beloved Jaguar XJ8. She was not badly hurt, so the biggest impact has been just the irritant of being ripped off by crappy insurance companies and looking for a replacement car. I'm not willing to throw money away anymore on the huge depreciation on a new luxury vehicle, so this time I went on the used market. Turns out the big Jaguar sedan is in pretty short supply out there - hard to find decent ones, and those move fast. But I finally found what we wanted and got her back in a decent car (and out of my truck!). Anyway, the whole point of this post is to advise anyone looking for a used high-end car to check out http://www.texascarsdirect.com. They focus mostly on Jaguar, Land Rover and Mercedes Benz, but also have the occasional BMW, Cadilac, Volvo, etc,. They do not deal on prices, but their vehicles are VERY clean and priced to move (and most go quickly because they ARE priced so fairly). They buy only the best from auctions in every state, and they inspect and take care of all necessary outstanding maintenance and wear items before they offer the cars for sale. They sell all over the nation, with lots of people flying in and driving home. The inventory changes daily. If anyone is interested in something they have, I'd be very happy to take it down to my mechanic for a full checkout and help coordinate whatever you need. Just thought I'd offer... Goose
  9. For any old guys on this site; Old American Car Brochures for likely any car you've owned. Check out that 1940's model that you once was yours! Interesting. http://www.lov2xlr8.no/broch1.html
  10. NOW. i have already read ALL the pros and cons, about car tires on a mc! don't really want to read any more of that. what i WANT to know, is, WILL a car tire work on a FIRST GEN?????has anyone found one that will fit? i don't ride long distances to search for "twisties". i don't ride hard! i would rather take it slow, and easy,(that way i can say i went there and enjoyed it)and get the most miles for my buck. MY top speed, is usually 5 mph, LOWER than the posted speed limit. what i want is a long lasting tire, not a "sticky, peg scraping, sport rider" type of tire! oh, by the way, i am NOT the only member to have asked this question. other queries, got lost in the "flames". just jt:confused24:
  11. First, a little background. I ride a first gen. Mark 2, and I've racked up a respectiable number of miles, riding one up, with full luggage and camping trailer. I don't ride fast or agressively, and prefer secondary scenic, when possible. Currently running Elite 3's. My life changed, when I found a lady who wants to share the experience. I should mention that we are both in our 70's, and not as spry and goofy as we once were. Also, our combined weight is 390 and falling (dieting). I recently added a Voiger Conversion, for stability and ease of trailer towing. I'm now looking for advise and suggestions, pros or cons, related to switching to car tires, both front and rear. What car tire size is recommended? What modifations are required or suggested? Looking forward to continuing the journey and would appreciate any input. Thank you, for your time and help. 14. I don't think I've ever seen this question asked. I'm curious because it was time to replace Eileen's car and we looked at a lot of vehicles trying to decide what to buy this time. I pretty much left it up to her but it got me wondering what the rest of you here drive. So....what are you driving and are you happy with it?
  15. (old issue thought I would throw it out there) Headlights do not work anymore. Doesn't matter when I hit the dimmer switch. They used to work when I hit the brights, now they don't work at all. Newest issue, bought new battery this past summer. Car ran fine. Let it sit for about a week and when I tried to start it up, nothing. Barring a bad battery cell, what else could it be? Father in law thought maybe voltage regulator. I got a new battery tender for christmas and took it like 3-4 days to get a green light. That is w/out it hooked up to the car. I figure a mouse chewed a wire, but not sure which one. When I look in the engine compartment, I can't find any frayed wires. Heck it is 40 yrs old now. Wouldn't be suprised if it is the original starter.
  16. How do you tell the speed rating for trailer tires? Easy enough on car tires, but can't seem to find info. for trailer tires. Been looking at doing the harbour freight mod. They have a black one now for $280 and in my AAA magazine got a 20% coupon. Has 12 inch tires, but interested to know what the speed rating is. Also been checking out 13" rims on e-bay. Didn't think cars used tires that small but apparently they do. Would be ideal to me to swap out tires for 13" car tires. That would leave any doubt about the speed rating.
  17. I doubt it, this is the most snow i've seen in my life, and i've seen alot of snow! Its freezing out, and of course my car dies at an intersection and wont start. Maybe thats why they say tempos aren't made for busting drifts! Either way, it was too cold to walk, so i just stayed put trying to figure out the problem, but lo' and behold my hood release latch froze to the inside of my car, so i pulled about a foot's worth of plastic out of place. Good thing its an 85' that i only paid 350 for!!!! PS does anyone have any extra first gen pipes they would like to sell for really cheap? THANKS!!!
  18. Jacksonville Family Fears for Life in Tangle with Motorcyclist Taren Reed Ann Butler http://www.firstcoastnews.com/graphics/bullet1.gif Created: 1/4/2010 4:34:04 PM http://www.firstcoastnews.com/graphics/bullet1.gif Updated: 1/4/2010 5:48:24 PM JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Local family members were on the receiving end of a motorcyclist's road rage yesterday evening, but they managed to alert authorities, which led to an arrest, police said. Kenneth Bruce was driving home with his wife and infant in the car around 7:30 p.m. Jan. 3, when the driver of a black Honda motorcycle became aggressive, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office report. Police said Paul Rieger Jr., 50, came speeding up behind the Bruce's car, pulled up next to it and tried forcing it off the road. Bruce told police when he stopped at the stop sign at Eastport and Pulaski roads, Rieger began driving circles around the car, eventually stopping in front of their vehicle. Rieger took off his helmet, ran to the driver's side door and tried to open it. When it wouldn't open, he began banging on the window, yelling at Bruce. Bruce's wife called police. They left the scene, driving around Rieger. Once again, Rieger began following them. When they reached the intersection of Faye and Joel roads, Rieger turned and drove away, but not before Bruce was able to get a tag number and description. Police ran the tag, and found that the motorcycle was registered to Rieger at his home. When police arrived there, Rieger refused to answer any questions about the incident and told police to leave. A struggle began between police and Rieger. Police had to Taser Rieger twice. He was eventually arrested and charged with aggravated assault and resisting and officer. ©2010 First Coast News. 19. have a 2006 rsmv with voyager kit. have 8000 miles on bike need new rear tire. what size car tire will fit.
  20. i know this is a taboo question but here i go. i recently purchased a beautiful rstd 06 , i have been riding my entire life and have kept my honda vtx1800. i researched the whole darkside car tire thing before i tried it on the honda and i have to admit that i like it on a heavy low lean angle adult driven cruiser. the vtx has over 5ooo miles on the car tire on the rear and no issues except excellent wear and grip. my question is has anyone put one on a venture ? pro's or cons ? and please do not preach to me if you havent at least tried it. any intelligent input would be greatly appreciated.
  21. In addition to our RSV, We also have a "50" Ford fullblown custom convert. Chopped/sectioned/lowered/molded/louvered etc etc.....The RSV is all bundled up for the winter but, being a restless one, I had some "under the car" issues I wanted to address before spring. ! I wanted to re-route the floor shift cable as it seemed to bind a bit.The car is LOW, really LOW. I jacked the car up just enough. I let my neighbor borrow my "creeper" (don't remember when) so, I had to wiggle my way under. Ok, trouble light in place, all the tools I "think" I'll need and under I go. As I suspected, the shift cable needed to be moved to the outside of a support bracket. Now, I've got about 5 or 6 inches between my head and the frame, as I reached up to loosen the bracket for the re-route, lifting my head off the floor about 3in, a small piece of dirt/something became dislodged. As normal, (?) it was right in line with my cheek just below my right lower eyelid. My head was now somewhere between that 5 and 6 inches from the frame as I had my head off the floor about 3. As the little foreign piece of whatever hit my face, I involuntarily jerked back causing my head to smack the concrete floor. Of course the immediate reaction was to snap back causing my forehead to smack the frame which caused a reaction to jerk back as I once again hit the floor and returned to the frame for one more self destructing thump before I could stabilize. I lay there for a moment amused with a vision of my head as a "ping pong" ball under there. I managed to squirm out from under a bit perplxed, actually a bit dazed. I have a small red scraped spot on my forehead not unlike that little red dot on an Indian Believer. I'm thinking of a "lift" and I want my creeper back "JEFF"! Renne
  22. well last night i was in a mad rush to find that last gift. so i ran to the mall about a half hour before closing time. pouring down rain and chilly outside. at closeing time i headed out the door as they where locking down the mall. i started walking to my car which is parked in the handicap spot. when i see this poor teenage girl crying her eyes out. i asked her whats wrong? she told me that shes at least a half hour late getting home and she cant get into her moms car that shes driving? and shes soaked from head to toe. of course being a teenager shes not properly dressed for the weather. she said im going to be in big trouble and be grounded for at least a month this is my second time i will be late getting home this month. my cellphone is locked in the car so i cant call my mom and i dont have a father or no one to come help me. i said well lets see why you cant get in the car? she said i keep hitting the remote button to unlock the car but its not working? i didnt say a thing i gave her my coat told her put it on. then i gave her my cellphone and said call your mom. tell her what happend and a nice man is going to open your doors and you will be home in just a little while. it was the same type of car as mine a pontiac grandprix. and she was standing on the passenger side. i didnt want to make fun of her so while she was talking to her mom i took her keys went over to the drivers side as these type of cars have only one door lock on the drivers side. i placed the key in the lock and opened her door. started her car and said your good to go. she said hey my mom wants to talk to you and thank you. i took my cellphone and my coat and talked to her mom explained what i did and that just because the battery died in the remote dont mean you cant get into the car. so when your daughter gets home show her what i did. she just laughed and laughed and said she sure takes after her mom where both blonde. boy did that make my day
  23. Cellphone use is the No. 1 cause of distracted driving, which causes one out of every four car accidents in B.C. Distracted driving causes about 117 deaths every year. http://www.theprovince.com/news/Warning+drivers+Cellphone+starts/2370110/story.html It's about time!
  24. I hope everone has a great Holiday ..But please ..if you drink ..leave the Car Keys alone ..Please watch this Video. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2mf8DtWWd8]YouTube- TAC 2009 Christmas Campaign TV ad - 20 Anniversary retrospective montage "Everybody Hurts"[/ame]
  25. Well, its a snow day, i have a heated garage, and during the summer my friend hit a mailbox with the car i sold him. It shattered his window and left a pretty big dent in both him and the car. I was on my dads 05 GL 1800 when he called and told me, as soon as he told me he was bleeding, i new i needed to hurry. I got on the GL, and i tell you what, that is a quick bike!!! But i digress, we are going to pull the dent out of the side, with a kit, puddy it, sand the small parts and repaint the holes, we also have to do some work on the power window, the motor is still good, but the dent doesn't let it go down. One time though, we were driving around in the freezing cold and someone had pushed down on the window too long, we hit a bump and down came that new window! When were done with that, were going to pull the pipes off my 85, straight off from the catalitic converter, they are going back on though, i just want to hear that muscle car sound!
