  1. What have others here done to ease the "wrap around" wid for their passenger's comfort? On our ride last evening, Doreen was complaining about some buffeting coming around the fairing. I do not know what the "wings" are actually called, but have seen some on other bikes whil on the road. As for the short trip, we went back county roads around Madison, SD. One section is called Valley Road in NE McCook County. Nice curvey road (Doreen did not like that, but we are both new to this type of bike) good scenery, virtually no traffic. We went about 50 miles and enjoyed every minute of it. We are working our way up to longer rides. Hope to take a good trip later this summer. Thanks, Dave
  2. I ran into a bit of snow last weekend. They called for a 30% chance of light rain or a possible snow shower. I could've dealt with that like I have before. But instead it turned into a short blizzard. I was finally able to get off the highway and to a tavern where I got some odd looks when I walked in. The drinks sure tasted good after that. Then I called for a ride. Lucky my friends Butch & Jackie over at Bateman's Tavern let me park it there over night and come get it in the morning.
  3. Sorry, forget I can't get it to work. Do google search, " so you think you can fly a model airplane " it will come up, on site called " LiveLeak " If you like R/C model airplanes, its interesting, otherwise forget it. go change some spark plugs.
  4. Well, I have most of the info anyway. I have negotiated what I believe is a good price...if you don't agree, sorry. Anyone who wants just diaphragms, I have negotiated a price with Sirius Consolidated, here in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. They don't deal with the slider kits, just diaphragms. Regular price for a set of four was $89.00.....we can get a set of four for $79.99 US. They will ship to anywhere in Canada or United States for $13.75 per order. If you want to order from them, direct your email to Martin at this email address: sci@siriusconinc.com and indicate that this is a VentureRider order, for that price. Their part number is called SD-1 I am working ( slowly through emails ) with an outfit called Carb Kit Capital for slide assemblies but haven't got a firm price from them yet. I'll post that when I get it. Edited by Don Nelson to reflect price increase.
  5. Since the battery on my Venture has been failing on me lately I decided that it's time to look into a battery maintainer. I've always heard of the BatteryTender but I'm one who will spend the time to verify what's good and find the best and/or the best value. I found one that I like better according to all the reviews and options. A company called VDC Electronics has a product called the BatteryMinder Plus that has more features (mainly it will also desulfate the plates in a wet battery) and will work with 4 batteries at once. It is model 12117. 1.33 amp. When you register it they will send you a battery condition tester also. Northerntool has them at the best price I have seen. $39.99 and about $8.00 shipping. I ordered 2 locally today. Hope they are as good as they say they are!
  6. Back in the mid 80's, along the Blue ridge parkway(somewhere), there were 2 motorcycle only campgrounds. They were just off the parkway a very short distance. I believe one was called High County Cycle Camp. Was just wondering if they were still there, and if they are still open. Gil

    Aquapel

Question for those of you in wetter climates; Costco is advertising a four applicator pack for a windshield water beader and repellent called Aquapel. Does any one use this? Any good? Safe on the shield?
  8. you can always rely on the wonderful assistance of Forum members! I was recently in FL for an extended stay and needed some help. All three people that I contacted immediately took care of, and took charge of, the situation at hand. AtlantaDragonSlayer: I called Bob in need of a part and right away he went to the time, trouble, and expense to overnight it to me in Tallahassee FL so I could get the bike back on the road and get to my intended destination, which was critical, given the difficult circumstances I was headed for. He also did everything possible to pick up the slack for the January North GA M&E since I wasn't going to be able to make it back in time. Muffinman: Jeff is always ready to provide his expert mechanical assistance, whether by phone or in person. This time it was by phone, and he walked me through a problem, the solution to which also contributed greatly to getting me back on the road. SteveW: Steve really stepped-up and took on the task of cleaning out his shop and getting everything ready (food included!) so we could hold a Maintenance Day at his place. When I called Steve from FL and told him I wouldn't get home in time he was both understanding and supportive and told me not to think twice about it. My sincere Thanks! to each of you for helping out so graciously at a difficult time... Terry
  9. I own a '99. I have seen some refer to our scoot as just Ventures and some as Royal Star Ventures. There might have been one other one. I can understand using the term Venture being generic for all Ventures, but is there is a reason why some are called Royal Star Venture (if not all of them are called that)?
  10. Anybody know what size speed bleeders are used for the RSTD or Ventures 2nd Gens? Dan, I called company and their not sure of size of bleeders. Got to call them back.
  11. Nineteen vehicle pileup, one death, and numerous road closings. There are a lot of people on here who think Texas is a tropical paradise. Well, Texas is a BIG state. Down south its a bit warmer. But up here in the frozen tundra called the Texas Panhandle, welcome to reality. http://media.amarillo.com/photos/index.php?xml=210 http://www.amarillo.com/stories/120908/web_pileup.shtml http://www.amarillo.com/stories/120908/web_roadclose.shtml/B]
  12. Last week I went to put on my winter jacket and found that I had expanded my wastline and could not zipup my jacket. So I wanted a new Tour Master trans.2. ;As I called around nobody had one. I called competition accessories and they were out too. But the sales said he had other jackets and the price was negotiable. Well he offered me a Fieldsheer Quattro in high Vis yellow for the same price as the Tour master, $152. I think I got a good deal. Also bought Calela's gore-tex Pinnacle glove for $50,in reviews a guy said he wore then in -25 degrees and his hands were warm. Glove is used in Alaska in dog sleigh racing. Hope they are as warm as they say. tew47
  13. I just wanted to throw a couple of kudos at a vendor I had good dealings with. I just got my RSTD a month or so ago and I missed the backrest I had on my V-Star. I searched and searched and finally found the one I wanted at "Scootworks" I placed the order online and called the next day to see when it would ship. I got a machine and thought that would be the end of that. I've gotten so used to no one returning my calls. Well an hour later a friendly lady called and explained that they didn't have the backrest in stock, but they should have it by Monday and I would have it 2 days later (this was on a Thursday). I never really expect anything when I'm told to expect it, so I was thinking maybe the following Friday I'd have it. Well to my amazement I found it on my front porch the next Monday 2 days quicker than I was told. I like to ***** when I get bad service, so it's only fair I rave a little when the service is good. 16. I hope this doesn't sound too stupid, here goes, I need to change the plugs in my 2005 RSV. 10k mles the 2 in the back seem to be fairly easy to reach . My question is the 2 front plugs. Do you remove the brace (not sure what is called) that prevents access to these plugs? And if so what problems can that lead to. Also what plugs do you guys recommend? Thanks
  17. Hello all, Does anyone close to the TwinCities (MN) have a carbtune that would be willing to help me sync the carbs on my '89? Else, recommend a shop that will do it for a REASONABLE amount? I called a few shops and all the quotes I got were between $120-$160. Thanks, Eric

  19. Forgive me for not having been on the forums (fora?) for a while.......but, has anyone brought up a discussion on affordable insurance lately? I'm with a broker called Dalton Timmis out of Burlington/Ancaster, who I think have me with an insurer called Elite(?). My "comprehensive" package on my '03 Midnight Venture comes to $988. Am I getting hosed? Anyone else riding in Canada getting a good rate from a broker they can recommend? Thanks for any tips. Mike.
