  1. I got the part # from Yamaha customer relations......My 2000 Venture that was totaled in 2005 had factory CD when bought at dealer new so he got me the # STR-CDCHG-11-00 COOL JerryK
  2. Well great news !! I HEARD the Blue/Black RSV can keep up with that super fast Black mid night Venture, so we just bought one ! We just came home, and found a 2007 RSV thats blue/black, with 8,800 miles on it, for $11,000.00 ! ( Buyer was asking $12K ) The bike was spotless, looks like it just came outta the showroom ! I took my first ride tonight before leaving the deposit on the RSV, and what a great smooth running bike ! Lots of power, engine was smooth as silk, easy to turn, I had to make a U-Turn, and went into a full lock on the steering wheel, and no problem, that bike is easy to maneuver. I can also flat foot the bike with no problems at 5'9" I also heard the stock pipes for the first time, and they have a slight little rumble to them, which I just love ! The bike came with the saddlebag chrome wrap around guards, drivers backrest, highway pegs, and a full tank of gas! I can't wait to pick it up next week, were so excited ! http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm200/fltekdiver/94912273_3thumb_550x410.jpg http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm200/fltekdiver/94912273_1thumb_550x410.jpg http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm200/fltekdiver/94912273_2thumb_550x410.jpg
  3. Hey Guys, My riding buddy has an 03 Venture Royal Star. It has quit on him. He was told it was the switch, so he bought a new one, and replaced the battery, and still nothing. Anyone have a suggestion on where we should look next.
  4. Friend has this 99 Royal Star TD, been sitting uncovered in his garage for9 years. He has had out one time, put 43 miles on it. Bike has a total of 1,402 miles on it. I have never seen such a filthy specimen in my life! I have it in my garage now, trying to resurrect it. I need 4 carb kits. ANy one know where they can be bought without going to the stealership? This thing will be a beut once I get the ½" of dust and crud off of it. Dang its good to have friends who own stuff they either don't want or are scared of.
  5. On my 2000 Venture when I toe shift through the gears it is difficult to shift. I have a couple of friends with Ventures ( a 2005 and a 2006) and they shift with ease. About like my Road Star. I have no idea why mine is more difficult to shift. Is it the oil that I am using? I haven't changed the fluids since I bought it. I've ridden about 3000 miles since I have owned it and I was told by the previous owner he had just change the oil when I bought it. Maybe something mechanical? I have no issue shifting but it does begin to wear on your leg after 4 or 5 hours of riding. Any ideas?
  6. Just had to look didn't you? Baaaa! Ok. Here's the deal. I bought a Hartco Lambskin seatcover. Nice addition for those long rides. I bought it used so no care instructions and I've been googling up care and cleaning info on lambskin. It's seems to be a toss up between dry cleaning and machine or hand wash with Woolite or a simliar cleaner. The Hartco site only refers to toweling it dry after riding in the rain so I'm looking for more info. Anybody got info on keeping one of these things nice and soft? Mike
  7. Was out today and went by North County Yamaha in San Marco. They had a Venture on the floor so I of course had to go look it over. It was a really nice looking 2004 Midnight Venture for sale. It only has 8700 miles and they are asking $10,499 for it. This bike is in excellent condition. Beyond the usually goodies it had the leather cover for the trunk (don't know if this is stock or not on the MV's but I want one for my 06 Cherry red). The pipes were drilled out and punched and sounded really nice. It has the Clearview windshield with the vent. That's about all I can tell you about because the wife was forcefully pulling me away from it (guess I didn't hide the slobbering well enough) Just thought I would mention it in case anyone is looking for one. Also thought I would mention it so that it might get bought thus keeping me out of trouble with the wife. If it doesn't get bought soon I do not know how long I will be able to resist it. If you want more info I can give you the number to the place just pm me.
  8. I have an emachine (yeah I know all the past unreliability about it before emachine was bought out). I bought it in 2005 and I will say that ever since I have owned it, it has been a very reliable machine (until now). Of course I don't use it for much else other than surfing the web and storing photos. I really don't have use for a computer beyond that. It started acting really slow. Antivirus and spybot didn't pickup on anything. So I decided it was time to wipe the hard drive clean and start over. I backed everything up (including the recovery partition) to my USB HD and used the recovery partition. For whatever reason it didn't work and the pc kept freezing. I also have Norton Ghost which I saved an image a couple months ago. I restored the image and that didn't work (usually does). I tried burning the recovery partition files to a dvd-r and see if it will boot from pc and recover from there. That didn't work. I contacted emachine to see if I could get a recovery cd as one was not provided when I bought it brand new. Well come to find out that if it was manufactured prior to 2006 (mine was in 2005) that they didn't supply recovery cd's. What I did find out that the last 2 digits of the serial is the year built. So for me the last 2 are 50, which stands for 2005. I guess my fault on not creating a restoration cd. They give you the opportunity to do it when you boot the pc, but for whatever reason I decided not to. I don't have $100's for a new pc, or a new HD and OS. I have seen the OS's on e-bay for dirt cheap, but honestly I don't trust them enough to buy from there in cases like this. So what I am asking is anyone else has an emachine if you can check your serial to see if yours was manufactured 2006 and after. If so can you PM me your serial so I can order a recovery cd? I have XP home edition. I can't use Vista. It is a system hog and my pc won't be able to handle it. I know how to get a free copy of XP, but honestly I want a legal copy. Thanks. Jerry
  9. i am looking for a new E 3 front tire and cked out 1 of our venders here , they still have E 2 s for sale but not E 3 s , has anybody bought a 1st gen E 3 from them ? they look good , free shipping + VR.O discount small mines want to know ???? aka me Thom
  10. APRIL FOOLS!!!! YOU REALLY DIDN'T THINK I WOULD GIVE UP A FAST FIRST GEN DID YA.:rotfl::stirthepot:
  11. After drive shaft, rear drive, brake, front fork springs, and wiring problems IT'S DONE. Went down the road today and ran so well I ALMOST forgot how cold it was. Still will install new brake pads and some chrome I bought but looks like it's ready to ride. Thanks for all the help everyone made repairs much faster.
  12. Well, I've gotten nowhere getting my parts returned. I'm still working on it, but the stress got to me so I bought a new Goldwing. :cool10: Looking forward to seeing you all on the road again.
  13. My youngest son is 16 so we bought a ninja 250. It is a 2001 with 2500 miles on it owned by an old guy who'd bought it for his wife but she didn't ride it. I figured it would be a good learner bike for him. I test rode it yesterday and will pick it up on Wd. After putting miles on the Venture, a 250 makes me giggle. I am thinking that a 16 year old that has only moped experience but doesn't know how to shift yet, it will be just what we want. It is cute and hopefully he can't get into too much trouble. And WOW, love that green color. Iowa Guy
  14. Just Bought these Mufflers on Ebay, what do ya think? A while back I posted about low power on my venture, especially on the highway... started to look into it and realized my mufflers (off Roadling?) are very different side to side. one is almost straight through and the other has almost a cup in it with holes drilled in the sides for airflow. Maybe I have to much back pressure or to little airflow on the side with the "cup" or dead end in it. I'm really hoping they sound like these. 15. Safety first, these are important! 1. Steering stem bearings, regreasing and correct setting. 2. Tires that are not flattened out in the center. Tires on 1st Gen must have a round profile. A friend put new Kenda's on front and rear and it was dangerous. DO NOT BUY! Avons he bought fixed his bad wander. 3. Flushing brake and clutch systems often, especially in wetter climates. Sludge builds up and water corrodes. 4. Cleaning electrical connections. Battery cables, and all connectors should have contact cleaner (brake cleaner works too) sprayed in them at least every other year. My desert bike does not have this problem but all of the Midwest bikes we have bought have corroded connectors. 5. I have had several bikes driven to me with little of no air in the tires. Or no tread left. 6. Oil changes, is this a last thought? I've had the oil sight glass so dirty so many times I think it's full too... Drain it and it's so black it resembles heavy carbon... 7. Hand and Foot Controls at such a bad angle or so uneven it's a wonder the bike was drivable. 8. Lights/signals/horns not working, How safe is this? 9. Non-functioning brakes. All go and no stop??? 10. Safety inspections: I've seen state inspectors give it an OK without checking anything! 11. Please go out there right now and inspect your bike, your on only 2 wheels. 12. Can't do it yourself? Dealers too expensive? Do a posting on Craigslist. I've gotten many jobs this way.
  16. OK, so when I bought my brake pads, I figured I'd see what a new oil filter would cost. Then not thinking the price was too outrageous, I bought one. My local thievery shop sold me a #1J7-13441-10 filter. Then later, while looking through the parts catalog for my '84 VR, I noticed that the recomended filter number is #1J7-13440-91-00. So I took the filter back today to get the correct filter and was told that the old number had been replaced with this "New" number. Personally, I think the parts man behind the counter was smoking crack. In the service manual, there's supposed to be a rubber ring gasket, this "new" numbered filter has none, nor does it have a place for one. What say ye?
  17. At least until this Dunlop Elite 3 wears out. I bought a used wheel off ebay. They didn't show the tire very well and I didn't care because I wanted the wheel and rotor. Well, lo and behold, it shows up today and the tire looks almost new. I'll run this tire off until it's gone and come back. I can't turn down a free tire. I bought the wheel, rotor and tire for 142 shipped. Now tire changes can be done at my convenience and faster. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll%3Ffrom%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dm37.l1313%26satitle%3D400005069327%26category0%3D%26fvi%3D1&item=400005069327&viewitem=
  18. I spent 8 hours working on a 188,000 mile 97 Mercedes Benz, 6 cylinder today. Jezzzzz I hate working on those things !! I had another beater MB, back about 15 years ago ( again, something one of my kids bought ) and did a lot of work on it. Thats when I decided, I would Never buy an MB, Old, New, Used, Wrecked, whatever whatever--- They are HELL to work on !!!
  19. Sold this bike a few months ago and today I bought it back. http://thumb8.webshots.net/t/16/17/6/9/38/2255609380037297848cOfUeK_th.jpg http://thumb8.webshots.net/t/53/753/7/41/14/2200741140037297848ApPGBj_th.jpg

  21. Hello guys I just bought an '86 VXZ13 DSC from a guy from southern Cal last fall. Now I get to repaint, refurbish and restore it. It's a great bike, 28K miles, everything works and it handles like they knew what they were doing when they put it together. Progressive springs in the front, and new Avon Venoms. I'm getting psyched about this summer. Now for my problems... Like I said, I bought it from a guy in California. I live in God's country ( Colorado ) at about 6500 feet. I want to get rid of all that crap they put on it in california for their damn government. What I want to know, if anyone has the info or knows where to get the info, is what I can get rid of and change so I can go over the Rocky Mtns with a little power. It runs extremely rich right now. Jets, floats, needles and slides....anything that will give me a little more omph and better my gas mileage. Right now, I'm probably getting 23-28 miles a gallon in the city ( haven't been on a long trip yet ) Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I have a set of carb synchronizers if anyone near Denver needs to get their carbs synch'ed. Thanks Ken
  22. :mytruck1:Just bought a 2004 Venture Midnight. Need some work but runs and drives. Looking for some parts.
  23. I've posted on this twice before but today learned something new. First, I bought one of the edsets adapters that let you plug in earbuds with the intercom. I used a pair of earbuds my wife bought at walmart for $14.00. The adapter and earbuds are great except for the click of the engine I hear in the earbuds. I bought a pair of koss earbuds at walmart for $24.00 and I didn't get any engine noise in them so I bought a second adapter so my wife can use earbuds with the intercom also. Today I received the second adpater and plugged in the koss earbuds. Music is great until I started the engine and then click, click, click. I noticed the intercom volume was at 16 so I turned the volume down to zero and guess what? No engine clicking in the earbuds. If you want to listen to music only turn the intercom volume down and there is no noise. This brings another question to mind. If I have the mike mute installed will I get the engine noise when the intercom is set to 16 since the intercom doesn't work until you press the talk button?
  24. I know there has been a lot of talk about lift tables. I couldn't resist throwing in a thread about the one I just bought. I got the one from Complete Hydraulic. I bought the one with side and front extentions for choppers and a service jack. It's rated for 1500 lbs. I raised the scoot up on it as soon as I put it together. It seemed to be stable but I was still nervous about having the scoot raised up. Has anyone ever dropped a scoot off the table? http://www.completehydraulic.com/tcmlw.html
  25. We are having a wonderful Christmas and I hope you all are also. In SPITE of the fact that: The ring I bought Eileen doesn't fit. It will have to be re-sized. She bought me a new TomTom Rider Version 2 GPS. I like it...I think...it appears to be dead on arrival. Will not power up at all...even after charging for several house. Tried the reset button and other tips but it appears to be dead. Will have to exchange it tomorrow. Now Dylan (my 16 year old son) did OK. In addition to a lot of clothes and etc., he also got his first car. It is a '96 Ford Taurus. Low mileage and nice but ..... it IS a FORD. Hated to do that to him but he will have to live with it.
