  1. Some nice bikes here... http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/StarVBS/StarVBSBike.aspx?id=2498&gid=3&pg=1&y=c
  2. Yesterday our Yamaha dealer in Sumter had his annual open house. In spite of the slight rain, Pecker joined us for the ride over. We ran into Mike G while we were there!. The first picture shows Sleeperhawk and Pecker wiping down their bikes (both bikes were immaculate when we left the house!) The second one is Sleeperhawk trying out the seat Mike G has on his bike! Because of the threat of rain, a lot of people did not ride their bikes, but it was a great turn out! They had a live band with food vendors and prizes. The dealer was offering free dyno runs so both guys had their bikes tested. Sleeperhawk's Venture reached 71.2 HP at 99 mph and Peckers' Royal Star Tour Deluxe made it at 72.6 HP at 111 mph. :thumbsup2:There was a great difference between the sound of their bikes and some Road Stars that were being tested. The Road Stars sounded anemic! The last picture is of a flashlight that Jacque got for George to use for the bike and it came in handy today when George was checking the wiring on the bike (I did not have to hold a flashlight all that time!)
  3. I commute on the bike and am off and on several times a day. I find the headset cord a pain and I go through a couple of them a year. Does anyone make a bluetooth system that would work with the existing radio system? I'm thinking of something like a bluetooth transmitter dongle that could plug into the bike's original headset connector and a reciever that would mount in helmet. I would like to eliminate the headset cord. Maybe I should patent that idea! Dennis
  4. This looks bad, really bad. Just reported on the news: http://www.myfoxphoenix.com/dpp/traffic/dump-truck-motorcycle-crash-3-25-2010 Multiple bikes down, several riders dead, hit by a dump-truck.
  5. The hubby and I got to take our first ride of the year over to the river (Mississippi) Sunday!!!:dancefool:Anyhoooooo.....stopped at the Kwik Trip in Alma, WI to fuel up before heading home and as we are pulling out, another Midnight Venture pulled in to gas up. Was it you? We also took a break on County Road F and a blue Venture drove by on HWY 37 that was riding with a (what are those bikes called that have 4 wheels and spiffy looking?) Just asking as we don't see to many Ventures over there. Anyway, it was a beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeautiful day for a ride.
  6. 1ST Gen Replacement Stator ? Who has the Source, and part number for the Aftermarket upgraded STATOR for the 1st Gen Bikes, I lost the link---
  7. Its time to renew my motorcycle insurance policy with Progressive. I have Comprehensive and Collision on my RSTD and liability only on my Triumph and Suzuki. I am going to have to add a 4th bike later this month when I pick up the Millenium RSV I've bought. Progressives base/minimum price for liability only is $75. They are charging me the full $75 for 2nd and 3rd bikes, and I presume the 4th as well. Since I can only ride 1 machine at a time, and the policy doen't cover other riders, I feel there should be a substantial discount for insuring bikes 2, 3, 4, etc. But there's not. Do other US companies provide a better multi-bike discount ( I've seen the horrible charges our Canadian friends are paying..)
  8. Great gathering in Gautier last Saturday for the yearly CMA sponsored 'Blessing of the Bikes' Local media estimated about 1000 bikes showed up. I counted 5 other Ventures in the crowd. Sadly wasn't able to find the owners before they rode off. On a side note the local multi brand stealership has a new 2010 Venture on the floor listing at $19,600.00 Only difference I see is the flame decals on the fairing, tank, bags. Anyone in the area interested, we're doing a ride to Camp Shelby (Hattiesburg) Armed Forces Museum tomorrow, 3/27. Will be there about 1030 or so.
  9. Ok, I have read some of the input on the Shinko tires, but they are somewhat dated, does anyone have any more feedback on them, mileage, handling, pros, cons.......looking to buy tires for both bikes and having trouble getting the tires I want at MotorcycleProShops, cant order via internet, and keep getting voice mail when I call......and they have the best prices around.............
  10. I found out about this story when I was in Utah for my Moms funeral. The guy scammed a lot of people and is getting everything that he deserves. BUT can you imagine owning all these cars. By the way, there is a venture there so it is related (sort-of) I really like the classic cars, but there are some beautiful bikes and the first gen looks like it is in good shape too. Anyone have some serious cash to spend on some new toys? Go to the pictures next to the story. http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=10046613
  11. Got the bikes out of storage saturday, great day, sunny and 50s. Brought them home and started checking them over and found CRACKS in the sidewall of my rear tire. :confused24:This is the second time. I had the rear tire replaced last spring for the same problem. Took it down to the dealer and showed them. They took pics, said the Avon rep would be in later this week and they'd get it taken care of. Tire only has 6,400 miles on it. The front one has 10,000 on it and looks great. It's an Avon 130. Looks like it could go another 8000-10000 easy. The tire was made the 5th week of 08. There was no problem with it last summer or fall, looked good before putting the bikes away. Must be something with the cold? The tires on my wife's bike look just fine too and it was sitting right next to mine.
  12. Hi, Anyone have any info on whether 2 '84's could be parked side by side inside a Trike sized BikeBarn? http://www.thebikebarn.net/images/smartbarn_sidecar.jpg I guess what it comes down to is: can they be parked side by side in less than 72"? Which is the response from the good folks at BikeBarn. I am thinking I may need to use a nose to tail apporoach. My bikes are still in winter storage in my dad's garage so I can't run out and measure. I am looking for a storage solution for next winter, as dad's garage will not be available to me then. The BB and a bit of real estate in my side garden, is looking like my best solution so far. Thoughts, advice, experience, 2 bikes handy to measure? Thanks, Brian H. PS, there seems to be a free shipping sale on at BB till the end of March!

Ok, I have my asbestos britches on, so don't hold back... I love my RSV. It is the best scooter I have ever owned. But sometimes I want to run down to the store or some other errand, and I don't want to feel like I need to launch the Queen Mary II. I want to jump on a smaller bike and do what I need to do. I had a '97 vmax that was fine for this purpose but it was after all a vmax and I just could not keep myself from running it pretty hard. No self control I guess. I really like sport touring bikes. The BMW 1200, Honda ST, Yamaha FJR etc., but they too are more bike than I want. I no longer want or need the crotch rocket style bikes either. This is all leading up to your thoughts on the newly USA released Honda NT700V. I love this bike. I had the chance to sit on one today and I think I am sold. It has been very popular across the pond for several years. It is 300lbs + lighter than the RSV. It is a FI 700cc vtwin. I like the ergonomics/sitting position. It is still a little tall for me but I think I could live with it. I don't really see anything from Yamaha that is close to it. What do you all think of it???
  14. Hello, My wife just bought a 2006 Yamaha 650 v-star Silverado. However the bike is just a little to tall for her. I was wondering if any of you have installed a lowering kit on these bikes? If so, could you please explain the proceedure. I'm pretty good with mechanical repair and would like to do this myself. Thanks for the advice! Frank
  15. You ever ask yourself that? How many times? Once in while or everytime another chance to improve it comes up? I bought my '84 back about three years ago. It had been stored for nine years by the original owners son. His Dad had passed away and he kept the bike as it was all that time. He finally posted an ad and I found it. It had parts off of it stacked in boxes and it cranked but would not start. But looking it over I saw a bike that I would have for years to come. I liked these bikes when they first came out. They were the Victory Vision of the day. Big, different. weird looking with the Star Trek dashboard. Loved or hated them. Sound familiar? But I stuck a deal the son and he trailered the bike and all it's pieces (and a service manual thank God!) the next week. My daughters jaw dropped when she saw it being rolled off the back to the trailer into my garage. "You paid money for THAT and it don't even run?" She thought I'd lost my mind. For a while there I had my doubts to. Until I got her fired up. Over the last three years of ownership I have brought the old girl back to life and enjoyed a lot of miles on her. Things have been changed ... improved .... repaired ... replaced .... or in some cases created to make things right. I have depended on this club and the "Junkyard of the Future" our beloved eBay along with the few guys here that supply parts for these bike of their own creation to find the answers and pieces to get this done. I've got Ford parts, Toyota parts, Honda parts and now even an item that originated from Germany I believe. But today I was going through my records and found, not too much to my surprise that I have spent about the same amount on the things I have done to the bike as I spent for it the day I bought. Now that includes new tires, oils and the everyday stuff along with the odds and ends of used and NOS safety chrome, parts, upgrades and mods from this site. So therefor the Question? Is this worth doing? IMHO.....Hell yes! I don't think I have hesitated more than a few seconds when a chance to impove this bike has come up. A good mod, or a NOS part that is needed, or something that made the bike more comfortable to ride on those long trips. I've had bikes in the past that I ground my teeth dull deciding if I would spend a few bucks on it. Not this one for some reason. It just gets done. So seeing this club and the loyalty to these bikes...MKI...MKII...and even the 2nd gens, I know I'm not the only one out there to feel this way about these bikes. Thank God I'm not alone on this. I would sign myself up for a headshrink if I thought I was. LOL! I've been eyeballing the 2nd gens myself. But even if that happens soon the '84 will stay in the stable. It's going to be around for a long time. Even my daughter says they will have to build a ramp into my grave. So that said.......why have you guys hung onto your bikes and for how many years? Won't even go into the amount of bucks spent. We all know the answer to that. Mike The pic is from spring of '09. Still have some SS and aluminum at the fabricators. More to come.
  16. i was riding saturday, finally got some good weather.i stopped by the bike shop in my town,i was curious about gas mileage on my 83 venture.i have been reading post about how many miles that riders get on a tank of gas.it varies from 35-47 or so.i told the guy about it he laughed at me.he said the only way those bikes can get that kind of mileage if they pushed them.he said that a bike has to be 250 cc or smaller to get that kind of mileage. he said that i was looking at about 20-25. so whats the deal? so who is blowing smoke? i guess i do about 140 or so
  17. I was curious to see the variety of first bikes was, and got a pretty diverse bunch of responses. A few of you listed other bikes you've had, so this seems like a good time to re-visit this question, and list the bikes you've had, and which ones hold a special place in your heart. Lets start at the beginning: 2 1/2 horse mini-bike 3 1/2 horse mini-bike Honda Trail 50 Yamaha MX80 Honda XL350 (first street-legal bike) Honda XL500 Yamaha XT500 (stripped for off road use only) Honda CB750F (79, bike was stolen from me) Honda CB750F (80) Kawasaki KZ1000 MK2 Honda XR600 (dirt bike) Honda CB700sc Suzuki GSX 600 Yamaha XVZ 1300 (87 standard) Honda CB900 custom I'd have to say the second CB750F was my favorite bike. It was fast for the time, handled well, again, for the time, and it was just that time of my life that I was truly in love with my bike (early twenties). Started out in Ohio, moved down to the Florida Keys and rode it year 'round. I was so broke I rode the rear tire until it went flat on US1 just south of Miami.... Ruined the aluminum casings when Cardsound road was flooded, and I ran about 4 miles through 4" of saltwater. Saltwater, heat and aluminum don't mix well. I used and abused that bike, but I did love her......sigh...... The CB700sc is a great bike, and I've owned it since '98, but since I've got the Venture, I don't ride it much anymore. The Suzi 600 and the Honda 900 don't really count. They're both in need of a little TLC and probably won't even be roadworthy until next year. That's a list of my two wheeled relationships, some true loves, and some love-hate relationships, but all memorable. Maybe next time I'll list my favorite cages. Thanks for your attention.
  18. I was just thinking about my first street legal bike, which was a 1975 Honda XL350. I thought it'd be a fun thread to see what sort of bikes y'all had as your first street-able bike. Kinda' like your first love, you never forget your first bike.
  19. Has anyone had dealings with the company Bama Bikes off of ebay. I purchased a radio and cassette off of this place last week.. I recieved it and it did not work. Emailed them and they will not reply back. They wanted you to pay with propay because they did not like pay pal. I see why now pay pal will get your money back, pro pay wont. This will be the last time i will purchase anything off of them.
  20. My morning started out "just great"! After a LONG night of aching pain I managed to score an appointment with a "new" dentist this morning. My problem was, I had a crown put on a molar and the #*@!!&st dentist didn't get all the decay and now I was faced with a root canal and a crown re-do for another $1k! Decision time,,,,extract! I mentally prep'd my self and submitted to what I thought would be just an easy 15 minute visit,,,,YA WELL!!!!!! I had what they call "cowboy" roots (!) lucky me! Procedure,,,,,remove the crown and adhesive, split the tooth, remove the rear roots, then the front and then dig out the tips! YEOW!!!! My new dentist is a biker! been riding/racing almost as long as me, knew all the fun bikes we had in the 50's and 60's,,,Bultaco's, Royal's, Ariel's, Gold Star's and Sprints,,,we're sharing all this as the novocaine is doing it's thing!!!! I think we yak'd bikes 30 of the 45 minutes I was in the chair! He was painless! REALLY! ,,,,,,Ha! Maybe I'll schedule a cleaning soon! The up-side,,,,,,,,I got lotza Vicodin! LALALALALALALA!!! NOW I NEED A NAP! Renne....................(pain free)
  21. Not sure if anyone would be interested in this but I thought I'd mention it to the group. Some time back I got curious about one of the sponsors for one of the NASCAR teams, Copart. One of the things they do is handle auctions for wrecked/salvage vehicles. The selection of bikes that go thru the sales covers everything from 2 wheels on up, any kind of bike you care to name, atvs, etc. I've been kinda keeping an eye out for possibly finding something for myself as some of the bikes they sell have no apparent damage and are clear titled in addition to the salvage titled bikes. One of the bikes at the Longview, Texas facility is a 2009 RSV, the golden sand [whatever Yam. calls it] color. It has less than 1700 miles on it and has a Tx salvage title. The bike has been laid down on the right side. The passenger backrest looks like it's had a bite taken out of it. Right side spotlight is broken. Serious abrasions on the front fairing, windscreen, and the guard on the right front floorboard [whatever that is called ] . Little to no damage from the front floorboards on back that I can see outside of the passenger backrest. I don't have enough hands on experience with these bikes to be able to tell if anything else is damaged. I can't tell if there is any damage outside of the obvious. The listing shows repairs at $10k and says that the bike will start and run. Current high bid is $3600 with the sale ending date estimated as being around March 1st. If I had the cash, I'd take Squidley and his better half along for a lil drive and check it out but the bank account won't stretch that far right now. Depending on what else is damaged, it could be an interesting buy to say the least. I'm posting this here on the chance one of the group might be interested. There are a fair sized collection of pics on the Copart site. Unless you have a dealer's license or something similar, the bike may have to be bought thru a third party [i think Tx law requires it] so additional fees would apply. Copart has people/companies that handle that so it should not be a problem. The bike has my curiosity going. Just wish that I could do something about it!!
  22. My Saints are in the Super Bowl, the sun is shining, the temps are warmer and dryer today than they have been for quite a while, and I got a little cycle-therapy in on both bikes today............God is good, all the time.........
  23. Sold my RSV Friday. T'was a fantastic scoot but I needed the $$. She had just turned 60K. Didn't get much only about $4400 but these bikes don't command much premium here. Looking for another KLR650 now.

    hadaka??

i might have spelled it wrong? tonight my nephew called me to ask me about a combat wombat motorcycle? has a chrome gas tank. and is in fair condition. hes been shoveling snow and doing chores for a neighbor who broke his hip. the man offerd him this motorcycle and about 200.00 cash for all the help he has been doing so far. so i might be spelling it wrong and cant find any info on it. so my questions are 1=can he still get and find parts for this bike 2= who built these bikes are they a honda knock off? 3 = how do i find the cc on this bike he said the owner states it a 250? 4 bike turns over but its like kicking a mule? 5= a lever on the left handlebar could it be a compression release? i dont want him getting ripped off. he works about 4 hrs a day for this man. since november. bringing food running erands. all for a little gas money. with the knowledge that he wanted this bike. and 200.00 to maybe throw into it. last year someone stole a kawasaki kdx from him. hes been devestated since then. corn detassling in high heat. only to have that bike for less then a month. i cant help him no more since i cant work. to give him any money for a better dirt bike. he realy wants a duel purpose bike for around $400.00 to $500. he should have saved up by spring?. being a teenager it might not happen he will have that cash LOL. just asking if anyone heard of these bikes and where they good ones can you get pistons and stuff just it case this thing goes south?
