  1. from the frozen wonderland of Hayward, WI. We are having a great time here. Lot's of good food, lots of snow, lots of COLD. It is truly beautiful though and we are really enjoying it. The company resort has lots to do. A nice lodge with pool table, foosball, air hockey, ping pong, etc. Lot's of snowmobiles free to us to use all we want and thousands of acres to ride. The drive up here wasn't too bad. Hit some fairly heavy snow showers about 50 miles before we got here but wasn't too bad. Ended up taking about 12 hours to get here. 755 miles and could have made it a bit quicker if the weather hadn't turned somewhat bad. We will be here all week and plan to head home next Saturday. Hope you all have a wonderful New Years and that everybody be smart and safe. I'm not getting online very often but am trying to check messages once per day. Don
  2. I have a battery question. I had to purchase a new battery so I purchased a charger to make sure I had a good charge from the start. While I was getting the battery I had a mechanic tell me that it took approx 30 minutes of riding to recharge the battery from what it took to start the bike. I tend to ride some shoert distances because I use my bike as a primary mode of transportation. My question is this, is it bad to charge the battery frequently? If I were to plug the charger in weekly, or even nightly would it be bad for the battery or would it actually help? I don't know that much about it so I figured I'd ask the smartest group I know. Any help would be appreciated.

Because of the guys on here I was really looking forward to this week in the north. But to my surprise I was met with some bad attitudes from some when some of the locals found out I was from " The States" . Don't take me wrong some where very nice ,but others where not so nice. Am I missing something? Why is this ? Thanks .......Fred

  7. As to what our Harley riding members think about the Bad Santa commercial that Harley is airing? Personally, if I was still riding a Harley (or even considering going back to a Harley), I would be really off put by it.
  8. Man, oh man, I have learned a VALUBLE lesson. I will never open an attached thread from any e-mail or posting from anywhere again. Rednecks computer lost EVERYTHING including his desktop to a very bad virus night before last. I just about did today, only thing I had left was the desktop, but couldn't go to anything on it, and my son was able to do a system restore after doing the viruse scan, so I basically have a brand new computer, nothing was saved, I lost EVERYTHING. Was bearly able to find you guys again. Be carful when on the internet, I had 99 bad viruses and at least 6 Trojan viruses, and several worms. They are mean and the only way to get rid of them for good is a total system restore (if you catch them in time). Have to send Redneck's new computer back to Gateway and see if they can do a restore, he has Vista, so he took back his old computer to be online, when he gets back home. Good luck out there, just wish there weren't so many bad people that would make these stupid worm and viruses to attack computers. BTW they can attach to photos, videos and music files also. Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving.
  9. Guys and gals: Looking at the "specs" for the swivel hitch offered by Neosho I see that the insert is a nylon block. Any comments good or bad on this material being used in this situation? Thanks for the feedback.
  10. OK, I know it was not anybody here, but I read this news story about biker gangs attacking motorists and had to share. Giving fellow bikers a bad name I wonder if there is anything else to this story that is not being reported?
  11. :bang head:JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE HERE HAS HAD ANY EXPERIENCE WITH TALLAHSSEE (FL.) POWERSPORTS GOOD OR BAD?
  12. Not a bad buy it now price. Several miles left in this one.No I don't need it because my 84 is just like it. The Red ones are fast. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1984-yamaha-venture-jya41v000ea002050_W0QQitemZ260178226096QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item260178226096
  13. I am getting ready to repair my 2005 RSTD, Black and dark Raspberry. Need your input on new mirrors, Clearview windshield (should I get the vent? Some say they are hard to clean) upper and lower saddlebag trim, and left side lower cowling. I have most everything else lined up. I don't like stock mirrors and kind of like the Yamaha tear drop with the billet standards with holes. I have heard good and bad about them. Also anyone have any of this stuff for sale? Any help much appreciated. I will be selling off some damaged and duplicate parts cheap after I am done. Thanks in advance.
  14. Some bozo who couldn't look out for traffic as he backed out of his parking space hit my bike and knocked me over this afternoon. He cracked my trunk, scraped up my muffler and saddle bag guard, gouged my trunk and saddlebag real bad, busted the lower part of my fairing, and took some paint off the upper part of my fairing. All on the left side. I just got out of class with the guy not 10 minutes before it happened. Banged up his girlfriends car real bad too. Luckily nobody got hurt. Though I won't want to be him when his old lady finds out.:rotf:Anybody had any experience with the insurance companies with these bikes? It's an 84VR. Where do I find out what the fair value on it? My guess is that the insurance is gonna call it a total and I won't get anything near what its gonna cost for parts and a paint job. Anybody have any advice?
  15. After diligently searching for two weeks for rhubarb in the local stores, I finally found some at our Kroger store soooooo last night I made a rhubarb pie. :cool10: Sleeperhawk said "Not too bad!" If I can find rhubarb in the store before our South Carolina Meet and Eat, I will make one!
  16. Okay. This is sure to draw several opinions but I'd be happy to read them. I'd like to outfit my 04 RSV with new pipes and I'm not sure which to buy. I'd like a little more of a throaty sound without it sounding obnoxious. In other words I don't want people (especially my neighbors) to look at me when I drive by and bad mouth me like I bad mouth others with loud pipes. I saw a recent discussion on here about the Khrome Werks (sp?) but was wondering about what others have installed and liked. Thanks in advance Wayne

    carburetor heater

I have a question that is puzzeling me and maybe one of the great mechanics can answer it for me. What is the purpose of the carburetor heater? Do these things go bad? If one were to go bad,or if the relay were to go bad, how would you know it?
  18. Folks, this is a hard thing for me to even mention here. I am NOT mad. I understand that bad things happen sometimes to good people. I just want to mention it though because I can't handle this too often. I got my bank statement today and found that a check that one of you sent to me got returned for insufficient funds. This is the second time this has happened. I never mentioned it the first time because I really just hate talking about this kind of thing. It has to be said though. I'm not even sure who the check came from. I will contact my bank on Monday and try to find out. I THINK it was for a donation to the site. While I know it was made with good intentions, the bottom line is that the donation ended up costing me $60.00. That is what my bank charged me for the depositing the bad check. I think it is nuts that my bank charged me $60.00 for a bad check from somebody else and rest assured I will be talking to them about that also. I'm sure it will do no good though. The other one was a couple of years ago but the end result is that I've lost $120.00 due to these two checks. I'm sorry to say that I will probably no longer accept checks for any donations, patches, parts, anything else. It's just not a chance that I wish to take any longer. Sorry it had to be said. I know that the person who sent the check certainly had the best intentions and would never have let it happen on purpose.
  19. found a dealer in n.j. who had 2 rsv 1-black the other black/blue 2007, asked for his best out the door price, told him i was interested in the black/blue,that i was buying if he had a good deal. $18,430 out the door i don't need to buy one that bad........... i'll keep looking
  20. I JUST RECEIVED THE OVER SIZE MIRRORS FOR THE RSV FROM E-BAY ITEM NUMBER IS 320163805535 THEY ARE VERY CHEAP,CHEAP,CHEAP I THOUGHT THEY WOULD BE NICE BUT THEY ARE MADE OF PLASTIC AND THE MIRROR IS CUT SMALL AND YOU CAN SEE THE EDGE UNDER WHERE IT IS MOUNTED UNDER THE RUBBER AND LOOKS LIKE IT IS SPIDERED AROUND THE EDGES. THIS WAS MY 2 CENTS ABOUT THEM, YOU DECIDE. STAR4772 JOE THE SAYING GOES YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. THIS IS WHAT I SENT THEM: Dear thecycleking,I had just received my mirrors and I must say I am very dissappointed in them. The reason why is because they are plastic and not metal and also the workmanship is bad. You can see the edge of the mirror under rubber mounting and it looks bad. I dont know if I got a bad set or this is the way they are but I am not happy. My question is what can we do about this. I dont feel I should be charged a 20% restocking fee for a bad product. Please advise. Thanks Joe
  21. My bad - I just found Newman's post - sorry for the repeat.... I have an appointment on Thursday at a local plastics shop to get my shield cut down. I have to do it - I can't stand looking through it in the rain or when there are lots of bugs on the shield. I am a little nervous about how far to cut it down - I have to go low enough to look over it so probably about 4 inches from the top. My fear is that may be too much and then I would be disappointed. I don't want to end up looking at the edge though, got to look over it. I am curious if you've done this and how it went. How much did you cut off and how did it affect the air flow? Do you get more buffeting, how about your passenger? Do you regret cutting it. I read some of the threads about the Clearview's as a replacement and may go that way but not yet... What about the shape? Did you end up with the same shape as stock or did you flatten the curve a bit? I'd love to hear your stories - I found an article online about how to do it myself but power tools and I are a bad mix, usually resulting in a poor finished product and multiple sutures for me ;-) Andrew
  22. Well after all my coil problems, I finally took it to a local shop. At first he said it was the coil, (said I had replaced a bad coil with another bad coil), but after he switched the back coils, he said the good one would not fire and that it was a problem further up the line. Not the pick up coil or a switch, cause the bike runs, it just runs like crap. Surges and misses while riding on 3 cyl. I got a steal on ebay on 4 used coils and boots and a new ignition module. I'm gonna replace them this weekend and hopefully when I fire it up it will run right and keep on running right.
  23. This was sent to me by one of our members. Not bad. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6IFb7gn8Dw]YouTube - A day out in Devon[/ame]
  24. I noticed that if my CB is on and I use the horn, I get loud static in the speakers. Does anybody else have this problem ? What is the cause a bad filter?
  25. Ok, here's how my story goes. I posted a while back about my coiil going bad. I checked the coild, the resistance was bad, bought another coil. After putting it on if croaked after only 50 miles. Got it back home and tested it, resistance off. Book said to check pickup coil. Best I could tell, I tested it and it was with in specs. Went trolling around on the delphi boards and from what I read, if a pickup coil goes bad, it goes all the way bad and the bike won't run anylonger. Same for the ECU, if it goes bad, it goes all the way bad and the bike won't run at all. My bike will run, it's just on 3 cyl. Would it be anyone elses opinion that that seems to rule out the pickup coil and ECU? I'm thinking I got a hold of a 1 in 50 OEM coil that was bad. I can't think of any other reason why only one coil would go bad. Any ideas??????????????
