  1. As some of you might remember I tried to give this driver backrest away for free on a guessing game to some member who was in need of one. However we had a couple of winners but they were playing the game to get it for a friend. ( I MAY OF MISLEAD OR MADE A MISTAKE IN HOW THE GAME WAS SUPPOSE TO WORK AND IF I DID I AM SORRY) I still had the RSTD driver backrest and didn't know what to do with it,so I now see that a person here on the board that has been here through thick and thin and is now at a hard time in her life. So I decided to get a hold of Don (freebird) and auction it off to the highest bidder. I myself don't have a lot of cash like a lot of people in today's world but wanted to help so this is what I decide to do. So all you RSTD owners that was involved in the game last time I apologize. So now I am asking if anyone needs a driver backrest for a RSTD please help out and bid. This is a good cause, and again I appologize. Star4772
  2. Went for a ride this morning and my CB will not turn on. Radio worked fine. CB has been working fine until this morning. Tried a search on here, but the words CB and on are too short to use as keywords...:-) I did recently have the seat off to install an Ultimate backrest. I'm not sure where the CB is, but there are wires that run along the top of the rear fender under the seat. Did I mess something up with them? Open for ideas on what to start checking. Scott....
  3. Being a new (to me) 06 RSTD owner, was wondering how others handle traveling with the bikes quick release components. Wife and I have taken several overnight trips recently, and we always pull the windshield and backrest at the end of the day and take to our room. No biggee really except we're pretty spontaneous which usually results in an upstairs room. The dang organized folks get the first level. Anyone have theft problems with these items when on the road or public parked? Any creative locking solutions?
  4. Well with a little help from Carbon one making the adapter plate we were able to get the trunk at least mounted to see what it looks like. I think it will look pretty good after trunk is painted to match. and the backrest and armrest are redone in black also a good cleanup of the chrome and mounting bracket. What do you all think?? The detachable backrest is straped to the back. Joe star4772 If anyone needs anything done I highly recommand Larry Carbon one He is just amazing. Attached Thumbnails

  6. I picked up a used VentureLine backrest. I'd like to replace the nylon friction washer beneath the hangers due to deterioration. But, can't seem to figure out the trick. The diamond shaped part in the middle rotates 90°. The hex keyed screw in the center will turn either direction without any effect that I can tell. And the chromed plastic cover won't come off without applying force and I'm reluctant to do that without knowing that's the thing to do. Anyone have experience with these things? http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/83%20Venture%20Royale/backresthanger.jpg
  7. Well went and picked up the trunk that I will put on my RSTD. I took backrest off and positioned the trunk on the back and cool. Once I get the rack installed and the trunk all painted to mach and the backrest and armrest and pockets done in Black material it will look great. It is a trunk off an aspencade with trunk rack, side rails and also rear lights built into the trunk. The lines of the trunk I think will look good with the sadle bag lines seems to all kind of blend in. Cant wait to get ur done. star4772 :)

  9. wife and i took a ride Saturday from Randleman NC to Lynchburg Va. - what has made longer distance rides more pleasurable is the Hoppe Fairing, Utopia backrest, gel pad (walmart), Butler seat mods, tour pack w/ dual padded backrest and highway pegs. i used to get only about 50 miles before my butt was unhappy but can get 100 miles before discomfort begins. i love the cruise and use it constantly. hopefully my next addition to our riding experience will be a communication set for wife and i - it would be nice to chat while riding thru the country. my 07 RSTD rocks, i've had it over two years and put approx. 18K on it, mostly two up. if i had to do it over i would have purcahse the venture but i am happy with my ride !! just wanted to share some happiness. buz
  10. I removed the trunk on my 2004 RSV and purchased a 2005 RSTD quick release backrest on e-bay. I went to look at a RSTD to see what I would need to make it work. The rubber mounts and bolts shouldn't be any problem but there is a welded pin on the RSTD mount that secures the backrest. Has anyone been able to make this work in the past or is there a bracket(even if I have to bolt on and off) that will allow me to use the passenger backrest on my RSV? Thanks...
  11. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-Utopia-driver-backrest-/280551056609?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories Thought this might be great deal for somebody. Trying to find a 86 - 93 one but when I'm going any distance I have my bag back there and don't really need it.

  13. Free backrest for a RSTD for the cost of shipping and a donation to ST. jude's for what you think it's worth after you receive and inspect it. I got this from Mikealiasmike who is a member the same way. However I think I want the other style like the RSV. You can see a picture of this one at www.protac.net This is how it will work. I am thinking of a number between 1 and 100 the first person to get the number right will win the backrest. Please post only 1 number per member, also please be honest if you need it for your personal bike then submit you post otherwise let another member try and win. NOT FOR RESALE Thanks Joe star4772 (Hope this is fair to everyone) GOOD LUCK AND THE # IS **
  14. I just wanted to say thank you to utopia as well as everyone else who posted input about drivers backrests. Because of the input, I recently purchased a new drivers backrest for my 2005 RSTD. Installation was very easy. I did drill out the holes a bit larger. The backrest is very comfortable, I put on 1000 miles last week to and from Sturgis SD last week. Highly reccommend!!!!
  15. I still haven't figured out how to mount the backrest on my 83, and if I have all the parts? Would some kind person with a backrest mounted on there 83 send or post a pic of the brackets and the OEM backrest mounted on bike
  16. A backrest for a RSTD they want to get rid of or where I might find one? Joe
  17. Second choice painted to match? I would have to figure out a backrest for it but its brand new.
  18. Hello Everyone: I am looking to add a drivers backrest to my 2005 RSTD. Does anyone have one that they would like to sell? I thought I would ask first before buying a new one. Thanks in advance......
  19. Ok, I put a Utopia backrest on the bike and I'm wondering where you taller riders have it adjusted. So far, I have it as far down as possible and as far back as I can get it. I'm not sure if I like the thing to be honest. Might take it off the bike before I ride to Oberlin. Maybe a long trip is just the thing I need to decide weather to keep it or not. I've never rode a bike before with a backrest and it's a bit weird to me.
  20. Based on the recommendation of some here, I installed a Utopia backrest on my '06 Midnight Venture. The install couldn't be easier and what a tremendous difference, no backstrain or tension. Also, no more slouching and hurting my bad back. If you need a backrest, Utopia has m vote.
  21. Does anyone have a wrap around passenger backrest pillow top style? I saw the one for sale by Yamaha and Corbin but it is not the right finish. I would like to purchase one but I can not find the right style for my 05 RSV. Does anyone have any idea where I could buy one? Gaetan
  22. I have been through alot of posts here and I am seriously thinking of picking up a RSTD or RSV. for the last several years I have been riding a Harley wide glide. I like it enough, but I am now in the market for something a little more comfortable. I have owned everything from Gold wings to sport bikes to on/off road bikes. I was considering buying a new Road King or Electra Glide, but they start out at 21 grand w/no extras. Seems a little expensive for what you get. So here is the situation I am in. A Harley/Honda/Yamaha dealer an hour North of here has an 07 RSTD sitting on the floor with 22 miles on it. I put 15 of those on test driving it. I believe these sold new in 07 for around 14k and change. They have it marked down to 11,300 and I feel like they may come down a little more. The bike is a 3 year old "new" bike. How do you tell what it is worth? I am also somewhat concerned that it will seem like a big bulky lumber wagon compared to my WG, but then it is a tourer. Has anybody here regretted trading in a WG or something similar and been bored with the RS? I am attracted to the RSTD because it seems stable on the highway, has a nice big seat and backrest for my wife, and if I am alone i can take off the windshield and backrest real easily. I was shopping for a bike with EFI, but I am into 70's Hondas so multiple carbs and synchronization doesn't scare me too much. Also, a 5 year unlimited mile warranty doesn't hurt either. I am also a big fan of customizing my bikes with pipes and chrome. It seems there are alot of options for RS's. Is that the case? Thanks for taking a look at this post. Sorry I am all over the map with my questions. Erik
  23. Latest project for the scooter sunk to a new low. I bought an adjustable backrest bracket from a 2007 Harley Road Glide and mounted it on the bike. I didn't get the mounting bar for the backrest or the actual backrest so I fabricated one up. The mounting brackets were also McGyvered from stock steel pieces . I had to remove a section of the plastic base for the seat and a little foam for the bracket clearance. It is a removable backrest and the tilt can be adjusted forward and back. There is a cable made for it that I didn't get. The tilt feature is something I really don't care if I have, since once I get it set where I want it, it won't need to move again. I can trigger the tilt but the seat needs to be off in order to do it without the cable. There are two pictures of the orange bike that is a Road Glide with the stock bracket mounted to it. I don't have the backrest covered or the bar powder coated. Those are tomorrows project. Cost for the bracket on ebay was $46 with shipping and I have about another $30 in a couple of pieces of steel and the foam and covering material. It really does make the bike more comfortable. Road it for about 40 miles tonight and I like it. Bike didn't seem any slower with the HD part on it either. Gary
  24. I have a 1998 Royal Star Boulevard xvz 1300a and I am looking for a passenger backrest. Can anyone direct me to a company that makes backrests or seats for my bike?
  25. Need an RSTD owner within striking distance of Beloit, WI who wants a free rider's backrest, in return for letting his bike be used for the measurements. Just spoke with Grasshopper Limited (http://www.grasshopperlimited.com) in Beloit, WI. They need someone with an RSTD to come to their shop for a few hours so they can start making rider's backrests for RSTDs. Whoever goes gets a free backrest.... and I get one too! Anyone avail and so inclined please contact me ASAP so I can turn this on! Steve
