  1. I traded for a 2008 RSV earlier this year. My old ride had a Autocom system(love it) on it which I like because I can use my cellphone, Sirius, but mainly I had the headset equipped helmets(unfortunately wrong pinset for Yamaha system) which saved me some bucks in the trade. I would like to run the stock Venture audio through the Autocom system, but I don't know if it will work, location of the best tie in and if it would ruin the warranty. Has anybody tried this? I searched through the threads and didn't come up with any solutions. Woody
  2. Bought one for less than $50 via Amazon.com Bought the 1/8" double-male connector cord from Radio Shack for less than $4 Down loaded tunes I wanted from I Tunes....for $1 a song. Set Audio System on bike to AUX. Clipped Ipod inside my jacket and plugged in connector from Ipod to the jack on the Cass Player. Great tunes....Great sound.....and I control the Volume from my Audio handlebar unit too. ***Freebird told me about the Ipod set-up.....I took it a step further by going with the Ipod Shuffle which does not need a tank holder due to the neat pocket clip that comes on the unit. Life is good............
  3. In the owner's manual, it lists an Aux DC jack and Aux DC terminal. Is the jack the same on as that used for the audio headset? How do you use the Aux DC terminal? Could someone pls elaborate...thanks
  4. I have a new Nolan N103 N-Com helmet. I want to install a headset to communicate with my '02 RSV audio system (CB and aux audio) as well as my Zumo 550 GPS paired with my cell phone. I've found 2 options and want to know if anyone has experience with either to tell me which is best! I can install a Nolan bluetooth headset with a multimedia wire to my 5 pin audio connector... or, I can use a J&M headset and a J&M integrator which will integrate (hardwire) my GPS to the audio system along with a lower wire for my 5 pin connector. Any suggestions? Thanks, Art
  5. Hey folks.....does anyone have a suggestion about what my wife and I need to buy for her bike, which does not have any audio equipment, so that we can talk to one another when riding together??? We've considered a CB for her as well as walkie talkies, bike to bike intercoms, etc. It seems a shame not to choose an option whereby we use something that is already on the Venture and supplement what we need for her bike. ANY SUGGESTIONS? ANYONE TRIED THIS (successfully !) ALREADY? Tom
  6. I've got a 99 venture - never had any problems with the audio system 'till now. Two things showed up within days of each other. 1) the up selector on the controller quit working and scrolling down works on station selection but when I do it with something like bass, I can't go back up, then 2) a few days later the audio started to just cut out, on the radio and aux - no static at all - just gone then back. I noticed that the CB RX (receiving) indicator comes on when it cuts out and goes off when it comes back. Finally, it happens a lot under 40 mph and just occassionally above 40 (weird!). I'm gonna try disconnecting the antenna as I never use the CB anyway, but was wondering if anyone had any experience with this or suggestions.
  7. So I'm wondering what the possibilities for a VentureRider Podcast might be. We could record and post a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly podcast on the site, hosting it offsite if need be. ( Anyone with a NAS drive or webhost willing to donate some space?) Topics could include modifications, issues, performance, favorite rides, meetNeats, ride-ins, chatroom audio, moderator interviews, trailering, sidecars, whatever. Maybe even get some site sponsors in on this? First, we would need permission from Freebird of course, but then, if we could put together some podcasts, would yall listen to them? How about a call-in show? I'd love to interview some of the regulars on here, but podcasts can be produced by almost anyone with the desire and a computer. You could carry along a digital recorder or even a microcassette recorder, and interview each other, or record some audio about your trips, events, or weekend projects. Its easy enough to digitize and store on a server somewhere. I see a diverse bunch of members on here who I'd like to listen to as well as read about. Ok...built-in audience...guinea pigs, technology...we got it all. Input, anyone?
  8. Hey all. I ran into a problem late last night that confused me and I was wondering if anyone has come across the same problem and possibly found a fix. Mother, one of our fine Canadian friends, has provided me with a cable that plugs into the DIN connector in place of the Cassette deck. It has a switch that toggles back and forth from AM/FM to the cable, and an 3.5mm headphone jack. I hooked mine up late last night. Got GREAT audio quality from my Garmin. But when I flipped the switch back to AM/FM I only got audio on one speaker (right) and it was very very quiet. I had to turn volume up all the way and even then was only moderate for a quiet garage. Should have been blazing loud! ?? I did notice that when I unplugged the Garmin's 3.5mm headphone cable, the audio volume from AM/FM doubled but was still quieter than what it should be. Any one have any thoughts?? Really don't want to stick the Cassette deck back in..
  9. since we can add a CD changer into out RSV and I assume we then can use our master controller to inter act with it can you hook up our Ipod to do the same with a special wire to the audio controller? I hope this makes sence to you all and some one can answer this question Ill continue looking into the search to see if anyone has asked this question before but so far I haven't come across it. Thank you for everyones patience.:thumbsup:
  10. I have an '06 RSV and it's recently devlepoped an interesting problem/glitch. Every once in a while the audio system stops responding to any of the buttons. The only thing it responds to is the volume control. If I push the up or down arrows, nothing happens, and the same holds true for the AUDIO, SELECT and CB buttons. If I hold the AUDIO button long enough, it shuts off then I can turn it back on. But that doesn't always fix it. I haven't been keeping tabs on when it happens, but I think it doesn't happen when I first start it cold in the morning. Anyone have any ideas????? Also, is there any "system reset" for the audio system??? Thank you in advance CG
  11. When I bought my 83 Venture, the previous owner had (butchered) installed a BOAT radio/cassette in the left glove box area. I suppose he thought it was a good idea at the time. I am very seriously considering pulling out his installation and going with a later technology - such as an MP3 player accessed from a handlebar position... with an amplifier mounted out of sight somewhere. So I come to y'all ---- Anyone have a recommendation on a MP3 player that can be used in a motorcycle application?? Weather issues to consider? Some/any MP3 players have radio AM/FM built in? [note: some of my friends ride their Harlies while using an MP3 player in their vest with noise-blocking ear-buds... but some states prohibit headphones and other types of ear-passage-obstruction so I lean away from that right now.] Any recommendations on an decent amplifier??? My speakers are the 4-ohm 100W variety one on each channel up front on the Venture. How about some kind of an audio panel or passive mixer/switcher to be able to also hear the CB radio audio? Those available? I have little... actually no experience in what it would take to make music heard over the noise as I cruise. Any and all ideas are very welcome!! Thanks!
  12. I am in Perth, Australia. I have recently purchased a 2006 Venture and have wired in our head sets from a custom made audio system from another bike. The speakers work fine, but the mic's don't. I've got the correct plug pins order from Gary L Mace on this website, checked all my wiring thoroughly, checked for short circuits and continuity, adjusted the intercom volumn, set the audio system to HS, made sure both rider and pillion sets are plugged in and even made up additional test wiring harnesses, front and rear, with 5 pin plugs at one end and aligator clips at the other and connected another set of speakers and mic's from a friend and the mic's still don't work. I've tried swapping the order, but then nothing works. However, another friend with a 2004 Venture bought after market head sets from the USA that were made for the Honda Goldwing and we plugged them into my bike and the mic's worked okay. I'm totally stumped. Does anyone know if the audio system has a built in blocker to prevent us using after market products not made for these bikes, or what may be causing my problem. Cheers.
  13. been having a lot of trouble hearing audio. due to outside noise and being hard of hearing. spent a fortune on helmet speakers amps, etc. finally found a cheap solution. got the premium sound on my wing and it is fine with the speakers until you hit wind. i bought the edsets, much better til you hit wind. went to radio shack and bought a set of sony earbuds. on sale for $29.95. then bought a 5 pin to 3.5 mm single pin adapter from cycle gadgets, and now have concert hall sound and sealed out road noise. my sirius radio has a whole new meaning. all i can say is awesome, try it if you are hearing impaired. bill
  14. I have a strange issue with my 1999 RSV (100,000 miles). It seems to be a little bit different than some of the other second gen audio posts. My audio system worked great up until about ten days ago and then it just went out. Checked the fuses, none blown. Two days later, the audio system started working again normal. Two days after that the audio system started acting up again. When I start the bike, the audio and tripometer does not work. The odometer is displayed. If I change the odometer to the tripometer, turn the bike off, turn the bike on again, the audio works for 2 - 20 miles and then goes out and won't come back on. If I stop the bike at this point, with the tripometer displayed, and start the bike again, the tripometer is correct (it doesn't reset itself) and the audio works for 2 -20 miles. I have already split the fairing and taken apart all audio connections, cleaned them, and applied dielectric grease. I have also done the same with the ignition connectors. This has had no effect on the way the audio and tripometer are acting. I do know that the front remote control unit was changed about four years ago. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
  15. I had a small accident a couple months back that resulted in a low side slide down a mountain highway. The damage to the bike is purely cosmetic and is just about reassembled with some new parts....... one of which is the oem Audio Controller that sits on the left handlebar. I ended up with 7 broken ribs, a punctured lung and a broken collar-bone that was broken so bad that it needed a 6 inch plate with 8 screws to hold it together........... there goes my summer !! Anyway .............. back to the Controller ----------- the broken one works just fine and my insurance company replaced it with a new one at a cost of $872.xx Canadian. I am looking to replace the front panel of the broken Controller to make another good one. It seems almost criminal to throw the broken one in the garbage. Anyone have a busted Controller with a good front panel they want to part with ?? ken.jo@shaw.ca

    Audio system

Anyone know anything about these? a friend called me and told me about it. the price seems too good to be true. http://www.gooddeals18.com/product/SHKCYCLEKIT/motorcycle_yacht_marine_audio__2_speakersampremote.html
  17. Greetings all. I'm having a reoccurring problem with my intercom and wondering if anyone else can give some insight. The intercom is picking up what sounds like ignition pop through the speakers, because it speeds up and slows down with the engin rpm. It comes and goes usually when you hit the right kind of bump in the road. I can also give the fairing a good tap on the left side and sometimes that will make it go away. Other times nothing makes it go away, very irritating!!!! It doesn't make any difference which audio is on (radio or cb) when it has a mind to do it. Sometimes the only way to get it to stop is to turn both audio and cb off. No sound at all then. It did this before mic mutes and has started again after mic mutes. I've had it into the dealer for it once, they couldn't find the problem, so they replaced the entire intercom system (they said), and it stopped for a long time, but its back now. Just wondering if anyone has had this issue, or has any thoughts on what to check. Thanks to all. Chris
  18. Hi Guys, I just bought a ZUMO 550 and I remember reading a post in here that a Venture member makes this special cable that hooks into the audio system to use with ZUMO 550.....not sure who that member is? Can anyone help? Thanks, PAUL http://www.windows-xp-update.com
  19. I just purchased a used 2000 Venture with the audio system. When the ignition switch is in the "acc" position, the audio system works fine. But when I turn the key to the "on" position, the audio system turns off, but the bike runs fine. Anyone had this problem and if so, what was the fix??
  20. My audio system has started acting up a bit. I've been getting some ignition noise through my headset on acceleration occaisionally and it seemed to be related to the mic input to my Zumo 550. When it happened I could wiggle the mike connectioin and it would change or go away. Today it began making the noise again and I unplugged the mic and the noise volume was reduced. I thought it was coming through the intercom circuit so I turned it off also and still had the noise. I'm not sure is this is related or not but I have been having a very infrequent problem with the audio control panel going dead in that the 3 buttons on the bottom will just not function for a period, generally less than 15 minutes. This has happened about 4 times in the last couple of months. The dealer has ordered a new control panel. It seems I read a post recently where someone had some warranty work done on their bike and one of the things done was wrapping the wiring with "RF tape". I've been searching for that post and haven't been able to locate it. Does anyone know if there is a service bulletin calling for that? I'll be talking with the dealer about it soon. DT
  21. I just purchased a used 2000 Venture with the audio system. When the ignition switch is in the "acc" position, the audio system works fine. But when I turn the key to the "on" position, the audio system turns off, but the bike runs fine. Anyone had this problem and if so, what was the fix??
  22. Had a old J&M headsets laying around. I cut the wires going to the helmet speakers and installed a female stereo audio jack, which hangs outside the helmet. I plug in my earbuds and jam them into my ears. Hook up my MP3 player into my audio system on the bike. Turn the audio system to headsets (HS) and hear nothing but classic rock and the rumbling of my V4 coming out of my baffleless HD Road King pipes. Man the sound is great and it makes you wonder how great this bike would be without the CHIRP. The sound quality of the CB is a lot better too.
  23. I have J&M systems in my helmet and my wife's. One earphone has gone out on hers and I'm wondering if it's possible to install the Bose noise cancelling earphones and bringing the audio in from the J&M. And anyone tell me if they would be compatable? Thanks:confused24:
  24. I know there are several hams on this forum...yall are welcome to listen to our local ARES/RACES emergency drill on this audio stream: http://216.167.132.7:8000/listen.m3u Open that link with your media player, and you should hear our audio feed. The feed will be active most of today and probably, tomorrow also. This is a communications drill. There are several simulated emergencies that are ongoing. You will hear 2 meters on the left channel, and 440 on the right channel, with 2 meters having priority in the stream. Of course, anyone can listen, you do not have to be an Amateur Radio operator to listen in. Signal reports are welcome!
  25. I ride mostly solo, and my wife rides separate on her intruder. So, just got a pair of "dual mode" headsets and a JMCB for her bike. My question is on the Venture can I make the audio play thru the speakers, while at the same time the CB comes thru the headset? I can adjust the volume of the Audio, CB and IC all individually. There seems to be separate HS and SP settings under both the Audio and CB menus, but when I change it in one location, the other changes also.
