  1. Just got back from a 1350 mi road trip pulling my trailer and girl ? Had to use 4 gear most of the time. Overdrive is way to tall with a load. I have a 96 just seems to need a little more juice. It runs great but another 20 hp would be nice.
  2. You know the old saying "best to learn from other's mistakes than your own", especially when it comes to bikes. Heading off for a weekend bike trip later today so I had to switch to my normal windscreen instead of the shorty 4" screen.. And I use a magnetic parts dish to hold the screws. Nice rubber coated magnet under the dish, sits nice on the fender etc.. really nice. And strong.. Remember the old motto "The job ain't done till all the tools are away" lol It stayed there on the fender for about 30 minutes this morning as I was riding around before heading out.. Now THAT's what I call a good magnet..
  3. AFX FX-51 Helmet. Black Just do not want to wear a full face anymore. Nice helemt never dropped or impacted.
  4. we are going to have this its a good time and lots of fun for all! they try to do this every 4 years http://tallshipcelebration.com/ not sure if i can get the time off from work or not. it would be nice to go again
  5. well he is doing better. got him on solid heart health diet. wanted to tell big tom he can have sherbert but not ice cream for now. wanted to say thanks to squid for the call, sorry he cant call back something to do with the heart monitor system in the hallways will give false signal if a cell phone is used in the rooms? wanted to say we got a full exhaust system for the bike. right muffler has a small rust hole but he dont need the mufflers anyways. pluse if he did need it his extension tip will go over that rust hole??? with some sweet talking to this shop owner. we will get it out end of july .this man went from jerk to nice when he saw my aunt?? they went to school together way back when. i teased her and said hey go out with the jerk a couple times and he might lower the cost to get oldgoats bike out. for some reason she said she aint going there??? confessed to me she likes james aka oldgoat??? hmmmmmmm????? maybe some match making here then instead of calling him the dad i never had. i could call him uncle?? uncle oldgoat has a nice ring to it:rotfl: and my aunt can keep him in the barn if ya know what i mean? after he gets better. looks like a meet and eat i can set up with them.
  6. Hi Everyone! Just thought that I'd share my experience of the previous weekend. I met up with my father and his brand new 2010 Harley Street Glide. I like my RSTD quite a fair bit, but did come very close to purchasing an older model Electra Glide over it due to the Harley experience, blah blah blah. Well I can say firmly that after taking it out for the day and swapping back and forth a few times, the RSTD is now my Pride and Joy! I guess I was taking for granted how great my bike really is. Clutch whine, pfft, I'll take that any day. First off, the Harley Vibe was so strong it was shaking my to pieces. I was finding myself joking around by over exaggerating the shaking, like I was being electrocuted, when were were side-by-side at the stop light. I really didn't enjoy the vibes, especially in stop-and-go traffic - it not really fun. Yes, it did straighten out once we got going and it was nice and stable. Sound wise, well, its low and deep. Which actually gave me a pulsing headache after a few hours. But what I did notice was how GOOD my RSTD exhaust sounded. Nice and crisp, and when the old guy layed on it once he figured out the high rpm game, wow, just great. I kept trying to take off really quickly with the Glide, but was shocked to see my RSTD right in my side mirror everytime. Neck and neck, we were keeping up to each other with no difficulties, and he's got the stage 1 on the Harley. Don't get me wrong here, the Harley is a nice ride, but I was so thrilled when I got back on my RSTD! I feel like a million bucks now. Maybe I will save that much now that my Harley lust is gone down the toilet. :mo money:
  7. OK its my first time to MD. Now besides any parts for mintenence, Is there anything I kneed to bring? I understand toilet paper is a comdity that should be brought also. Now my wife asked and my answer was I dont know. So here goes. Since Don is nice enough to let us camp in his yard, what does every one do about a shower? Im sure we can arrange something but she was just wandering. David
  8. Just wondering if anyone in the downriver Mi area has a plans for a ride over the weekend. I plan on being home for that weekend and would like to see all you ugly ducklings again :rotfl::rotfl: Not saying I'm any better BUT it would be nice to see everyone again. So if there are any plans lets post. It also includes everyone on the other side of the river 2 We cant forget our friends there. Star4772
  9. Now I'll be able to go on base and bully.....er... Wait...Wut? Motorcycle Permit??? Daylight only? No Limited Access Highways/Interstate?? NO PASSENGERS??? What a ripoff. I thought I'd at least be able to cause heck on base. Oh well. At least I can get on the two wheelers. Sorry Kat, can't come along for the ride yet. But, anyway, Yep. I'm on the first step to getting that nice long road cruise under my belt. Next up, Taking the Motorcycle classes up in Lawrenceville. Better and more thorough than the DDS classes. Soon it will be so.
  10. Lot of cafe racers but some others mixed in also. http://www.pipeburn.com/
  11. Anyone checked out one of these yet? Looks like a nice scoot. I saw one yesterday while we were out on a ride. It was parked at one of our fav stops along the way but I missed the opportunity to chat with the owner. Very nice looking "bagger" IMHO. http://www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/victory/2010-victory-cross-country-review-88987.html
  12. I am installing a pair of Powerlets to my bike. The Powerlet comes with a very nice connector to go to the battery, along with an inline fuse. However, I have an auxiliary fuse box under my seat. To hook up the Powerlet, I'd have to cut off the nice professional ends, then add connectors to let it attach to the fuse box. I think I would also cut away the bulky inline fuse. What would you do? Go to the battery or go to the fuse box? Keep the inline fuse, or dump it? 13. I was just watching an interesting show on TV. They were talking about a "Bucket List". That is... what's on your list of things you'd really like to do before you "kick the bucket". Thought it would make for an interesting read here...to see what other's lists are. Here's some of mine that quickly come to mind... Spend at least a year touring Canada & the USA on a motorcycle, with a nice tent trailer in tow and my honey on the back seat. Take a ride in a jet fighter and maybe even get to fly it some. Drive an indy race car. Skydive Have a nicely equipped shop and build a custom car or a hot rod Move to the country and live in a log house on the edge of a nice lake with my own dock and a nice boat. (guess I'd better start buying more lotto tickets for some of these!)
  14. Well the ride is over We had a beautiful day windy but a great day for a ride. There was about 50 bike there we raised $3200.00 for Gracie and her family The donations were great 80 cases of soda, 9 cases of Lance (my employer) chips and a couple of cases of cheese crackers, 600 dogs and buns w/ all the fix'ens, wings, brownies, enough prizes to make a really nice chinese auction and have a nice amount of door prizes I'm posting a couple links to Gaby Vincent Photography on facebook for the pictures http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=16596&id=118020521555956 http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=16595&id=118020521555956 And Here's just a few attached
  15. So I'm thinking about replacing the windshield on my '01 and wondering if the F4 is an upgrade over the Clearview? Clearview has a 10% discount for the month of March, so I'd like to decide one way or the other before the sale ends at the end of the month. I was pretty much decided to get a Clearview, but want to be sure before I pull the trigger. F4 advertises that the polycarbonate (Lexan) is 30 time more impact resistant than acrylic and their hard coatings resist scratches and shed rain better with no treating needed. They also say you can safely use paper towels, Windex, and Rain-X if you want to. I'm wondering if the F4 would stay really clear longer than the Clearview? I would be really careful cleaning either one, but how will the Clearview look after many miles and years or road grime? Other considerations are the tint and vent. I'm thinking the tinted Clearview would be nice, but clear would be fine too. The Goldwing vent might be nice to get some air, but I've not minded the stock with no vents. Maybe just because I've never had a vent? Should the difference in warranty make any difference to me? Six months for the Clearview and four years for the F4, but they probably both exclude all but manufacturing defects, so it may not matter? Price is nice, but I'm always willing to pay a premium for a premium product... So has anyone had both that can compare them? I think Don may have had both? I'd really appreciate any comments about the tint or vent in addition to the basic product differences. Thanks! James
  16. While browsing Harbor Freight this past w/e, (something I often do - but shouldn't), I bought one of their NonContact Thermometers - http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=96451 I thought among other uses, I could use it on my Venture to make sure all cylinders are firing the same. I have read other posts on here about just this thing. The problem is that THIS one apparently doesn't like chrome. I get temps that are all over the range. One was 424°F, others were around 180°F. So, I tried to point it at the black on the cylinder head as close to the exhaust port as I could get. Which isn't going to give me what I am after. BTW, the bike runs fine, I was just curious. Oh well, it's a nice toy that works otherwise. If you happen to have one, are you having the same problem? Also, after immediately getting the batteries in it, am I the only guy that the first thing I did was point it at my wife's backside? - Like I said, it's a nice toy. craigr
  17. Well as I told Rocket, I was in need of a new gasket for the 83 Venture. While I was at the Yamaha dealer Pro-Am Motor-Sports here in Calgary, I received the part and I was on my way out. Something caught my eye(monthly payments 238.00:doh:) there in the pile of new bike there she was, Blue and silver accents hard bags big wind screen big v twin a 1300XVS13CTYL BLUE I asked Kerry the owner ( nice people here) the story about the bike he said this is a demo but he has one in the box, mind you this is an 09 model. So I saw the sticker on her and it had been discounted 3 times so I thought this would be a great time to Camel trade on the price. the original Canadian price wes @ 13,000.00 it was discounted to 10,899.00 well he gave me a deal I couldn't refuse it was out the door not including lic,& Ins. 11790.25 Nice..(pending finance with 5,000.00 down) Well today I'm ok with the finance. Get her Friday. WhoWho!! So I'm the new Owner of the big v twin. I'm keeping the Venture and will remain a stout participate on the best bike forum next to the BMW of America's forum so Holy cow I bought a new bike. Now any break in or radio accessories ideas would be nice, Rocket, we got to meet after lockdown. Timmie's in Redriver or call.. Thanks to all Mike R. in Calgary..pics next week:photographing:
  18. Some nice bikes here... http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/StarVBS/StarVBSBike.aspx?id=2498&gid=3&pg=1&y=c
  19. On my way to work thursday morning I had the bad luck of encountering a wayward raccoon. I saw him running straight down the center of the road so I slowed down and proceeded to go nice and wide around him. I got right next to him and he zigged right behind my front wheel and just barely hit underneath on the left hand side of the bike. So I stopped and got out the flashlight to see if anything was damaged. Turns out that little hit shattered both of my lower cowlings. Called the insurance and they were more concerned with me not getting hurt than any damage to my bike. Kind of nice dealing with someone like that for a change. Anyway, called around to check on parts and what a suprise that was. $817 for the pair of green lower cowlings and they have to be shipped from japan.

hey i was up in the dixon amboy area sunday. i was on the maxim. i pulled into a parking lot where the roof had hawkings or something like that on it. when a verry nice looking red and i think silver? second gen yamaha went by? gave one hell of a honk sounded like a air horn. then waved and went on its way. just wondering if it was you?. this was around 1:30? and i must say there sure is some nice country in that area. then i headed back home around 2:30 back through mendota and home. nice ride. for a lazy sunday. i hope by friday i can do it on the venture. shes almost done.
  21. All my Harley buddies kept asking when i was gonna get a Harley.. My Response.. "I guess when i grow up and be like you!!!"" I was riding a 2006 RSTD.. Great bike.. Not so comfy for the wife and we are ready for our Leesburg Florida trip.. so we decided to upgrade.. I thought.. I feel like a grown up.. Lets go get a Ultra Classic.. When to the 2 local HD dealers.. 1st one, saw some beauts.. No one to help us.. so we went to another.. Went to the used side. They had a nice 2009 Electra Glide Ultra Classic.. perfect.. In the price range.. I messed up.. "hey, can i test ride this thing??" Sure enough.. The wife was not happy with it.. i felt llike i was riding a bicylce.. not sure why, just was not for me.. Told the Salesmen, nice but those turn signals really throw me off. (left on the left, right on the right). So, went to the jap shop.. They were nice and informative. But they were urging me away from the venture and into a voyager or goldwing. Venture is such old technology.... (they did not have a venture on the floor.) So.. went home depressed.. Not too bad, still had my RSTD.. So, what do we all do, drink a beer and search the internet.. Well there it was.. the 2010 Yamaha Venture S.. nice.. "Where can i find one tomorrow..(sunday) 50 miles away.. Cool.. I am there.. So, wife in tow, we go.. Well, the website was incorrrect, no 2010s.. but man, a 2009, they were begging me to take.. So.. What should a guy do.. I'LL TAKE IT..(after some negotiations, of course). So, the moral of the story.. Dont ever grow up. Ride what you like. Take no prisoners.. and.. dont wait so long to get something that you need and want.. Oh.. attached is a Pic.. (now i have to put the 600 miles on it for the 1st service.. half way there..)
  22. well im sure there is a link some where for this? but being not to good at the computer age. i have no idea where to look? so im going to ask the good pepole here.. im working on the venture doing tires rotor and brakes. well front tire came of nice. but. do you have to remove the back fender and the right muffler? it looks like the axle wont come out with out removing the muffler?
  23. I had asked earlier about a dual sport for my son. Thanks for all the advice. He decided that he wanted to start on a 49 CC scooter. We found him a nice year old Chinese made one last Friday. It only has about 150 miles on it. Well, on Sunday, Doreen's family got together here in Madison for Easter. I thought I would take the scooter for a spin since it was such a nice day. As I attempted to slow down to check for traffic before leaving the parking lot, the front brake locked up and I dumped it. The damage to the scooter is minimal, mostly cosmetic, and possibly the triple tree (or a resonable facsimile thereof). Me, on the other hand, scrapped my knee (the right one with the artificial joint) and landed with most of my weight on my right shoulder. I am going to see the DR Wednesday in Sioux Falls (VA) and find out what is wrong with it. I can move it in every direction, with pain, but not too bad if I go in slow motion. I am really glad it was not my Venture!!!!! I think it probably would have landed on my leg and I would really have problems then. Thanks for listening, and keep your fingers crossed it is not something too serious. Dave

    I passed!!

At work, I have been in a class for almost a year. I have taken grueling exams after each section. Today was my final integrated oral exam, covering everything I have learned in the last year. I had to sit before a board, and answer all of their questions. Took about 4 hours. I came through it with flying colors. Now, I go on shift work, I will be eligible for more overtime, and I get a nice raise. Life is good! I will be doing OJT for 6 months, and then I have to take one more final oral exam...then I am all done...until I move up to the next level...lol. What a load off of my shoulders!
  25. Jamie, myself and 2 friends from church went for our first official ride of the season, before it even started I stalked a 1st gen in Newnan, Ga. He was waiting on his friends to ride, he was on a very nice blue 93, that he just purchased, he didnt know about the site so I informed him it was the place ;to be for a Venture owner, he said he would check it out, his name was Charles, so make sure you give him a warm welcome when he checks us out. We planned on eating at Col. Poole's BBQ in Ellijay, but we got there a tad early, so we went on riding, before we left Ellijay I spotted a Black Cherry RSV at a light, face looked familiar but he didnt see us or ignored us, not sure which. This was around 10:30 am. We went on up to Suches, Ga. and had a very good lunch at Two Wheels Only. We had some great roads to ride and all total we did 375 miles of great roads, but we had to keep slowing down to let the other two Harley riders catch up, they just couldnt handle the twisties as well as Jamie and I..........Great day, low temp started about 60, and got up to about 83 by the time we got home.........The Venture ran perfect, especially since I fixed the one bad diaphram I had. And how was your day?
