  1. For the Asheville ride on Thursday, Randy said he'll lead us up to Chimney rock. If you'd like to go up let us know. If you don't wish to go up we'll need to know that too. (Oh by up I mean up on top of chimney rock.) I don't want folks to be sitting around with no idea what to do next. Here's the link to the park so you can get an idea of what's there. http://www.chimneyrockpark.com/ I haven't gotten a number on how many will be there that week. Some won't be there till thursday or friday. I know that sleeperhawk and the mechanic might not be there till sat. Mother is coming down from Canada with his wifey and he said something about 4 so not sure who else is coming with him. Can't wait to see you all there. This will be more laid back then some of the other events. I'm thinking that we can meet over at the super8 in black mountain to get everyone together on thursday. Probably around 8 maybe a bit later like 9 I'm not sure what time folks are coming in the night before. Then we can eat on the road for lunch. I'm still planning on going to saluda as well. Just have to see what sort of interest we have for any of these rides. I do know that cinderella isn't coming. I wish they could it would have been great seeing them again, but I understand how stuff gets in the way. Margaret
  2. Here's a link to my web site. This link is to the Indiana M&E photos. This one is to the Indiana M&E photos with out the frame for those with smaller monitors. Sorry if I didn't get your name in there. I was overwhelmed by the number of new folks I met. Above all, thanks to everyone for coming! A special thanks to Squidley and Sweetnothing for coming from Michigan. Thanks Dan, for taking over lead after my appendix blew up. I'm glad it went off well, and I hope we can continue to get together!
  3. So, we were out riding yesterday, me on my Midnight and my wife on her Honda Reflex. She's been riding on public roads since last Tuesday after three sessions in a church parking lot, so she's very new to the whole thing. When we were approaching the end of a two-lane stretch, I pulled into the left lane to give her some protection from traffic coming from behind when I notice an SUV coming up at speed on the inside. We are already in the area where the center dotted line has gone and the road is narrowing. I speed up a little and ease to the middle of the road, again to protect my wife ahead and indicate to the SUV that there's no room for her to undertake and, guess what? She does it anyway! As she passes I notice it's a middle-aged woman of the "trophy wife" type, with a yappy dog on her lap. Not immediately sure if she completed the trifecta with a cellphone or not, but it's possible. She then proceeds to ride my wife's tail for about a mile, overtakes her in a turning lane then makes a right turn. It was then that the Sheriff's patrol car comes flying by with blues and twos going full pelt! I signaled to turn and we ended up in a church parking lot and the deputy was giving the SUV driver a lecture on how not to drive, especially when motorcycles are involved! It's the first time in 30+ years of driving that a cop has been in the right place at the right time!! She got off with a warning, but I wonder if people like this EVER thing of the stupidity of their actions and the fact that if there's a wreck, they'd be inconvenienced by a few days of collision repair while the motorcyclist will be either in the hospital or in the morgue, just because they had to get one car's length ahead!
  4. What is the most common reason that my forks bottom out so easily, 83 venture, holds air pressure, but sure hits bottom hard and often. Want to know before going back to selling dealer. Thanks Also just had front bumper break off, coming home from work. What a surprise to hear it hit the front wheel and fly out from underneath. Brackets are broke.

  6. Guest

    It's over....

I want to take a moment, now that the 2008 International VentureRider Rally is over, to thank everyone who came to Kitchener and supported this event. I know that I had a great time seeing some old friends again, and making some new friends. As I said at the wrap-up dinner...all the planning in the world doesn't mean a thing if nobody shows up....those that were there should pat yourselves on the back for coming out, and for making the event what it was. I'm tired...gonna put my feet up....pour some Havana Club and try to clear my mind of certain events that occurred this week involving some "questionable" attire of some of my fellow Canadians.
  7. I'm thinking that something like this is just what I need to make the rear end slightly more visible. Now tell me you didn't see me coming!!! . . . . . http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm220/AKRefugee/Rearend%20Lights/lightsonbackend.jpg
  8. Coming back from a Patriot Guard Troop Welcome Home Mission. I was on I-95 cruising at a steady 70mph. Traffic was light. Road dry.Overcast sky. Crotch rocket coming up FAST in my rear views and the rider passed me doing at least 80mph. Further up the road, and within my view, he decided to do a wheelie! He looked good until the front tire came down...... I have never seen so many motorcycle parts scattered on a highway to that extent.....I'm glad that I was in the right hand lane and able to avoid the mess! By the time I pulled over to assist several other folks had done so.One of them was a Doctor on his way to work. It did NOT look good for the Rider of that bike I tell you. I have to wonder just what would motivate someone to pull a stunt like that at 80+ mph and not realize the consequences if all did not go as planned.
  9. Marcarl and Wizard765 came down for a visit and to help out today in spite of the rain. We had a wonderful afternoon of friendship and actually got a few things done around herre as well! Had a great lunch, and then knocked a couple more things off one Honeydoo list! I also want to thank JGorom for coming down to install the window AC units the week I was in the Hospital, one of the hottest weeks of the season. Many thanks, James, you are a true friend. Also a big Thank You to Big Tom for coming down last weekend and changing the blade on my lawn mower as well as getting the lawn mowed! You're #1 Tom! And of course thanks Carl and Wayne for sharing the day, it means so very much. Keep on coming over, folks, you don't have to do any work, just spend some time and help pass the day. I'm stuck here for a couple of months most likely...
  10. Yesterday (Father's Day here in the US) I gave my 4 year old grandson his first m/c ride. He LOVED it. After riding about 15 minutes, grandma asked if he was ready to go home...he said "NOT YET" very emphatically. Got a feeling he'll become pretty familiar with the back seat over the coming years. 15. Anyone living near Gibvel in Loveland, Colorado coming to the 2008 VentureRider Rally in Ontario, Canada in July that could help out. Gibvel has a rear shock for me and being the tightwad German that I am, I would like to save the shipping costs if possible. Anybody coming to the rally living near Gibvel that could carry that part up for me? I'm sure we could negotiate some sort of beverage reimbursement program!
  16. A friend just sent this to me today. I was doing the special FX fireworks in the background for the athletes. It was at the US Open on 3/22. Olympic class snowboarders from all over the world were jumping. I think I scared a few of them! (But they did know it was coming.) 17. Well, Fired up the 06 venture today and have a pretty heavy fuel leak coming from the front of the bike of all places. haven't taken the tank off yet but at this point its leaking from the bottom of the cowling around the radiator. when I shut the fuel off it stops. Bike seems to run fine but as soon as I turn the fuel back on she starts pouring out. First thought was stuck float pin but if that was the case wouldn't I see fuel coming from the overflow tubes? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. John
  18. Finally got the new to me Venture to where it will start and run. Clutch is working. Brakes on front. Still got rear brakes and a lot of plastic to go.But a lot of moisture coming out of the breather tube. Had it running without box on and a LOT of moisture coming out of there. So heavy it throws it in drops when you rev it. Don't know. That black cloud just don't want to go away. Don't want to say it. HEAD GASKET?? Change engines??"Blue Beast" starting to look like my best option.
  19. Just happened to be driving by today (and had my camera), so I thought I'd post a few pics to get everyone feeling warm and wonderful about coming up to Ontario... 1. the entrance to Bingeman's Park 2. a pavilion 3. a campsite So, Happy New Year to one and all...from the hottest place to be on July 7-10, 2008!
  20. My son inlaw called me last night and told me that when he started up his 07 R.S.V. it had fuel coming out on top of his radiator and he could not tell where it was coming from. He said he could not see because of all the stuff in his way. I would think carb. or fuel line. He just got it in september. the way things have come lose on mine I would say that it could very well be. Dave
