  2. Today I started fixing the one last thing that dose not work right on my 1985 VR, The gas light/guage & warning light always says that there is no gas. I took apart my front screen and everything to get at the back of the main console to clean the plugs and conections. now that everything is pluged back together the start up check list dose not come on and it will dimly flash upon key turn. Thanks,

    Speed wobble?

New tires, balanced: front 36psi rear 42 psi wheel bearings felt solid when i tested them (front wheel on the ground and slid the wheel side to side) air set to 10 in the front, 15 in the rear.. i'm getting a slow wobble at speed (75mph) and also when going into turns at lower speed (60-65mph) i'm sure i should check the tripple tree bolts and the steering head bearing, but what else would you guys suggest to check?
  4. I hated to do it because a lot of this work I could have done myself but, I dropped my bike off at the dealer to have a new rear tire installed, new air filters, gas filter, stearing head checked, new battery , stripped bolt removed etc, etc, etc......I am just so behind in things that need to be done around the house that I just decieded our safety is to important to let these things go rather than to rush around and do a half a$$ed job on the scoot myself....changed my rear brakes and the fluids last week and will check the front brakes when I get her back....bought a new shorty winshield and winshield pouches for my baby and Taters bought a new level 3 jacket for herself....I ordered a ram mount and aqua box for my mp3 player and will re-route some wireing when I get her back.....Just came back from bongobobbys to check out his trike and yes, he was installing some new toys himself....Dang, now he gave me some new ideas for my scoot..... *$#*^! YOU BOBBY..lol...now I have more work I want to do on my bike.... p.s. ..... this is cutting into my ice cream time:bawling:p.s.s. yamaha is going to replace my faring due to cracking of the plastic at the winshield..
  5. Hey guys, In case you're wondering where I've been of late - have been doing a BIG audit of the amount of time I spend on-line and decided to wind it back considerably. Have down-sized my ISP subscription by 75% and self-imposed a 2GB limit. That's down from an unlimited plan. This PC used to run 18 hours a day. Now, whenever I do turn it on it's for 10 minutes or so - to check my Emails, do my banking and see what's happening on this site. Best thing about it all - I've found my bride in the loungeroom of an evening. (MY BAD!) So - I'm still here but not to the extent I used to be.
  6. Check out the trailer in the following ad ... think it's worth $500?? http://vancouver.kijiji.ca/c-ViewAdLargeImage?AdId=187066242&back=-7&ImageIndex=5
  7. Havent seen anything from Screamstone in quite awhile. PM's go unanswered. Hope all is well with Rob. Check in here bro...
  8. It is that time of year to think about lubing the speedometer on the 1st gen. It is usually worse when the weather is cool and probably when the bike has sat for awhile. Even though you don't need the type fitting in the attached thread, it does work good. Other wise, you will need to take the speedometer out of the dash and put grease down inside of where the bearing is that the cable goes into. Putting grease up into the square hole where the end of the speedometer does not work because the hole does not go all the way through. Anyway check out this thread. 10. When I bought my Venture (used, 1 year old) it didn't come with an owners manual. I've been stewing over it since. Well, I finally found an original owners manual on Ebay for $39 delivered. Probably paid too much but I didn't check and don't care, I have one now - I'm sure the guy had more if anybody needs one. Let me know and I'll look up the link
  11. i went for a job interview today. for a janitorial position. while there they asked if they could do a back ground check and credit check? i said yep no problem. well they said they all ready did it from me filling out my aplication 60 days ago. i said ok what did ya find? they said you have a great back ground check for anything criminal. i said thats great . they said now here is some thing that bothers us some? i went ok here it comes what is it? they said you have a credit score of the mark of the beast? i said huh? thye said it comes back 666. which is a D rateing. needless to say i didnt get this job? what the heck does a credit score have to do with cleaning a damn office building?
  12. well today it got up to 48 out side so i thought i would go give the old venture a try. i got it out of the garage. fired her up she idels rough as i knew she would. i put sea foam in it back in october a whole can to a full tank of gas but due to knee problem i never ran the heck out of it. well i was going to take it to a friends garage today for work on brakes , put on rotors , brake pads and tires. so i tokk it out for a 25 mile ride darn thing just couldnt get past 60 mph?? i got into town and pulled up to the stop sign. while letting off the gas. it backfired like a 410 shot gun. i swear i saw the lady in the cross walk duck. well after the back fire she seemed to smooth out some?? so i took her back out on highway and hit 70 mph?? then she started to bog down? well i got her home and went duh ! james you didnt put the new plugs in did ya? nope i forgot. chalk it up to want to ride syndrom. its now back in the bro inlaws garage as my friends apendix ruputred and hes now in the hospital. so no work done on it. me think its time for old goat to learn on this bike. so im going to check the oil make sure no gas in it. then do the plugs. and give her another try. i have to be carefull as brakes are not verry good on the bike. but i want to get her running fair to good. then up to freebirds maintenance day. to work out the bugs?? any thing else i should check out??

  15. New tires are on the way for both bikes, Dingy's tool is on the way, my replacement rear master brake cylinder and resv. are on the way, now while I have the rear wheel off getting the new tire mounted I will replace the rear brake system, hoping that cures whats ailing the linked braking system. I will also take the time to check and adjust the fork nut, I dont think it needs it but will check it anyway, if all goes well the 1st Gen will be back to the way it was with the exception of 2nd gear, which will have to wait for the Muffin to get back and get all rested up and hopefully come down with Mini and visit and help me with that, if not I will just have to live with it for the time being. Now if I can get Todd over here with master mechanic Bubba we might get the CB figured out........... The V Star will be taking a back seat for a while, and I can do some things to it that I have been putting off.
  16. I took the faring off today do some wiring and to my surprise a nest of insulation. Nobody was home so I cleaned it up and surprise again wires to speakers chewed up. I repaired the speaker wires and my intended repair. Before I put it back together I was going to put some dryer sheets in there. I am also looking for any other methods to keep the little creatures out. I would also say if you get a chance you may want to check yours. I am also going to check under all my covers and air intake.
  17. Just in case anybody missed it in the General Tech Talk area, Dingy is now taking orders for his fork wrench. It looks to have turned out very nice and I consider it a essential addition to your tool box. You really should check it out. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=434977#post434977

  22. Last night I pulled the faring to replace my XM antenna and move the XM on to a new RAM mount, so I had to adjust the wiring with that. I noticed some bolts missing that hold the top trunk on the bike, on the chrome braces that go down to both sides side of the rear fender... Holy smokes. I checked all the rest of them and all of they were loose. I replaced them with some stainless I had on hand till I can do better. I put locktite on all of them. Over 14000 miles on the bike and just now finding this... I have lost one seat bolt and now these bolts. Heads up to all to go check these bolts on your bike before the riding season gets started. . I am wondering what else I should check? I already got the items listed below Dog bones on the engine Chrome trim on the fender tips Had the mufflers off so they got checked Had the both front and rear wheels so all that got checked (brakes calipers included) Tank as been off so that is good Bags have been of so that has been checked Fairing off several times along with the passing lights Risers installed so that has been touched Checked the bag lid hinges several times and know that is something to check regularly. What else do I need to check for tightness?
