  1. The whole time I've owned this Second Gen. I thought to myself how it lacked power?man this thing is really detuned? I sold my First Gen. and kept this one? WHY? It ran fair or OK on our trip to ST. Charles MO. meet, we kept up with the group OK but not what I expected from a V4 motor. Coming home on I44 doing 70-75mph we were getting around 32-35mpg not bad for fighting head winds and some rain storms but still I expected better performance. Anyway after we got home I went out to ride up to the store and it would not even pull itself out of the garage. Found I bought some bad gas, after putting in fresh gas I did some testing and found my #3 cylinder was totally dead no spark... Well after my second Knee rehab again, I finally got around to changing it out,man that was a big pain in the rear. I could not believe the power this beast has now WOW. my word this baby is ALIVE.. The Whole time I've owned this bike the #3 cylinder must have been dead! thats over 2,500mi riding time. WOW this baby is smooth....... This motor is so well built you may not know you was on three cylinders... If not for the bad gas ordeal I might have not known I had a bad coil. And to think I was getting ready to sell this Second Gen. Well I changed my mind NOW. Looking forward to ST Jude's next Month, really going to see how well this baby does on open roads!!! Now I know why I kept it and sold the First Gen. Second gen. Rocks!!!
  2. On the way home from Vogel my rear seat cushion (seat) came off somewhere between the Florida line and Valdosta, GA. Does anyone out there have a passenger seat for a second gen? I need one. Ken:fingers-crossed-emo
  3. Dano, Have a question for ya............................... You posted on a thread that BigHack started saying that off-set brackets can be made to move the trunk back 2 inches on a 1st Gen ------- can the same thing be done on a 2nd GEn (2007)?????????????? We have moved the bolts to the second set of holes, but I was wondering if it is SAFE to move the trunk back further????????? If I could sit back a little further my stiff right leg would be in a better position on the bike and I wouldn't have to alter the seats so much.
  4. Hi all. I sure love my old '83 1st Generation Venture. what a great bike! runs great, pulls awesome (I do pull a trailer), and handles fantastic! (I have 3) I'm considering moving onto something a bit newer, because now that the kids are grown, my wife & I are getting back into cross country trips...like we used to...woohoo!!!!...and are considering something a bit newer (for many reasons) I have a guy out here that has a very nice '92 with all the bells and whistles...OK... but I haven't been able to find much in the search about... "exactally...what's the difference (other than styling) between the 1st generation Ventures, and the 2nd generation units???" The engines and running gear are the same....right?? Believe it or not, I can't stand the Harley knock-off look of the new ones...(and I own 2 H-D's) Do the 2nd generation models handle much differently?? ride?? Weight & balance??? I KNOW there are a number of folks on this board that have ALOT of experience with both of these bikes...what do you guys think??? or can you just point out a link to a thread that will answer this?? (I'd rather learn all this NOW...before I spend a bunch of $$$)
  5. Hi All Looking for a CB ant for a first gen anone got one they dont need? Bull 463
  6. Hey Guys and gals, I'm back with some 1st Gen. questions. I am wanting to change the oil and filter on my brothers (BearForce1) 88 Venture Royale. What if any differences is there between a first gen and a second gen.? Same tools, filter, fairing removal? If there is a link, that would be great (I couldn't find one). I have done a 2nd gen a few times in the past. Next question, he gets a horrible "wobble" when he takes his hands off the handlebars. Is there a link for tightening the head bolt or replacing the bearings? Any info on these two items would be great!
  7. Does anybody know if this Harbor Freight trailer will handle a 2nd Gen bike? http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=65890
  8. A 2008 Venture with 4,480 miles on it for 6,650 right now. Salvage title but it lools perfect. Warden ain't home. She would probally kill me..... Stay tuned for sale on 1st Gen Parts!! You know it ain't gonna happen but I'm getting tired of sitting!!!! Just Maybe..... WORTH-- Like that spelling wouldn't let me change it
  9. Question: Who has the Information on the Car solinoid that is supposed to be a replacement ( other then mounting ) for the 1st gen??? I believe it was some Japanese small car. Anybody have that information handy ?? Thenks

    2nd Gen Key?

Hello everyone ! I bought my bike used afew years back a RSV 2006 and it came with only one key with no key tag number. How do I go about getting a spare key either from my local dealer or a lock smith? Do I need VIN number or just my only key to get a second one made? Thanks for your input................ Mark
  11. folks are coming to the 2009 Pork in the Pines pig roast on a 1st Gen?
  12. I was brainstorming last summer (scary as that may be) and my buddy who owns a metal fab shop and I built these hiway peg/pad extenders I am 6'6" and these do the job well on my 1st gen and sit plenty high enough not to interfere in turns Not bad for hillbilly home made
  13. Just a quick question - do 1st gen trunks have a seal (?rubber?) around the "lip" of either the upper or lower part of the trunk?? I am not a "fair weather rider" therefore I do ride in the rain.......that being said water has found its way into my trunk and I'm having trouble trying to figure out where it's coming from. I can't see any obvious cracks or holes and it appears that the design of the lip around the trunk and lid may not require one but then again I don't know if I'm missing something or not. advise, comments, hints and suggestions all welcome Thanks Ed
  14. Hey All, I was on ebay looking at the various mono rear shocks for different makes and models. The price they want New and Used for a 2nd Gen Rear Shock is Crazy. Does anyone knows if a shock made for a different bike will fit a 2nd Gen??? Does the RSV shock have to be air assisted or will a standard shock work? Yes mine needs to be replaced, all oil has leaked out, still holds air, but not wanting to go to far, especially two up, with it that way. Thanks, Later-
  15. I recently added a post to the first gen tech library that lists a couple of automotive thermostats that can be used in place of the expensive Yamaha thermostats on the first gen bikes. Somebody asked if these thermostats would also work on the second gen. Does anybody know?
  16. Anyone have a 7" or 9" 2nd gen windhsield for sale?
  17. OK I was going to write more last night, but I hadn't slept well for three days. Needless to say I was a bit on the excited side over getting another Venture. So by the time I got home last night, I was freakin exhausted!! I had the energy to post one picture and that was it. First off, I love this 2nd gen:rotfl: But she ain't anything like my old '84 with it's Mustang seat. I was able to put down about one hundred and fifty miles yesterday and Mama got some seat time as well. My first gen was the first fixed fairing bike I ever and like wise, my second gen in the first fork mounted... there is a huge difference between the two. The 04 seems to wander on the road a bit more and is pushed around by the wind. I'm guessing that not having a fixed fairing is what's causing that. But I have to wounder, the guy I bought it from just put new tires on it. He had Dunlop Elites put on it. And the front tire is actually a rear tire put on backwards...Ever heard of that? He said it makes the front tire last twice as long...OK but does it effect the handling?? Ok onward. The seat is comfy, but not like my first gen seat. I got monkey butt pretty quickly. But that might have been because I was wiggling in the seat allot, tryin to find that sweet spot. I guess I'll get used to it soon enough. I was expecting to hear a nice soft rumble while driving, but all I hear is the engine noise and the whine of those straight cut gears. I'm not a fan of the Harley sound so it's no big deal to me. I so impressed the low speed handling of this big bruiser!! The turning radius is a little long but I can do it with out sticking my foot out. She darn near stands up on her own at stop signs. I noticed I get a lot more wind on me on this bike over the '84. It has the wider wind screen but it still makes for a bit of cool air at night. It's a give and take I guess. It will be nicer in hot weather that the '84 which would kill me when it was hot, but in cooler weather I'm gonna have to dress like a biker All in all, I'm happier than a pig in ...well you get the idea. Now I just got to learn how to keep her clean. http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/Wheellock/100_1498.jpg http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/Wheellock/100_1504.jpg http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/Wheellock/100_1499.jpg
  18. I've never ridden anybody else's 1st gen.. and I'm kinda new to the XVZ1200 Venture Royale's. I picked up this brown 85 April of this year and I have put about 4k miles on it.. I have done a ton of maintenance on it already, and changed all the fluids, cleaned carbs and synced etc etc. I have shrugged off the whine as just the nature of the bike but I am curious if I might possibly have a bearing going bad somewhere? Does yours have a whine?

    It's all Skid's fault

When I was up in WV at the Skid in I was there when Skid brought home his new to him MSRSV. The Midnight is a nice looking machine even if it is a 2nd gen. I am a fairly dyed in the wool First gen enthusiast, as those who know me will attest to. Skid dragging that new 2nd gen of his home I guess got to me. It weakened my resolve … So today I made room in my garage …
  20. Can you put a car tire on a first 1989 1st gen and what size would it be?
  21. ITS A KEEPER..FOR A FIRST GEN.....
  22. Has any one moved the rear trunk back on a sec. gen looked in tec. section but could not find any thing on this. http://www.venturers.org/Forum/images/smiles/confused-smiley-013.gif _________________
  23. I recently added this information to the tech library. [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=355001#post355001]Thermostat Cross Reference - VentureRider.Org[/ame] I was later asked if these thermostats would also work in the second gen. I guess I could look up part numbers and etc. and try to figure it out but does anybody know right off hand if the first gen and second gen thermostats are the same?
  24. i was wondering, has anyone had both the 1rst & 2nd gen. transmissions apart, are the shafts the same, i know its a stretch, but is it possible to put 2nd gen 5th gear, in 1rst gen. , even if it would fit, i know the ratios are wide, but would be a great highway ratio, and i think the engine would pull it, thanks
  25. In looking at the Kuryakyn website, I got to wondering about their #7916 "Metric" floorboards. Has anyone tried adapting these for use as passenger floorboards on a 1st gen?
