  1. Does anybody have these on their bike? If so would you please post some pictures? I would like to see what they look like on the bike before I buy some. http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?Category_ID=7&manufacturer_ID=165&product_ID=3153&model_ID=42&query=Model_42%20chrome Thanks, Bubba
  2. Electrical dead. Batt is fine. Power at the main 30 amp fuses but nothing at the dash. Going to the shop tomorrow. Very disapointing, first time I've had to trailer a bike home in six years and 90K plus miles.
  3. for my '83 VR is a horn, and a backrest. The horn on my bike is pitiful, with not enough voice to alert anyone to anything . I would like to know what is the legally loudest horn set that I can get for my bike. Also, where would be the best place to get the best price for a backrest?
  4. I had a quick question. I am getting ready to start my trailer project and they have the trailer kits on sale at Harbor Freight. here is one with 8 inch wheels for $139 http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=42708 and the same with 12 inch wheels for $169 Which one should I go with as I have never hauled a trailer behind the bike. If I go with the 12 inch tires will it sit level with the bike? Any help would be appreciated cause I am not quite sure which would be the best way to go. Paul
  5. Caveat Emptor Here is the HF 1000 LB capacity bike lift on sale till 12/12/07 http://www.harborfreightusa.com/html/emails/49/RetailBv2/Images/2.jpg Click HERE to print it out!!!! I wish I had room for this in my garage....
  6. As our kids reach the"teenage "years, there's not much time left for Dad,unless of course the bike is loaded..they still seem to find the time to ride...yes!!!!
  7. hi all i have spent the last couple of hours looking thru the 2nd tech for stator/battery upgrade info. i have a 99 rsv with over 41,000 miles on it. i bought it ( aug'06 ) from a used m/c shop with just over 21,000 miles on it. have not had any trouble with electrical system so far. but the stator/battery are the same ones that came with the bike. i will be riding to the 08 international venturerider rally in kitchener, ont,ca. i will be pulling a trailer w/all the camping stuff. i have replaced all the lights on the trailer w/led's to reduce the electrical load on the bike. my question is should i replace the stator with the upgraded one from buckeye performance? and is the odyssey pc545 the right battery for the 2'nd gen? i have read commits about the odyssey pc680 but i think it's for the 1'st gen bikes. i'll replace the battery now but rather not replace the stator on the side of the road somewhere, if you all think i should replace it now. while we're having a cool spell here in texas. thanks in advance don
  8. I posted an ad in the Classifieds for a 01 Kawasaki Nomad 1500 I am offering for sale. If anyone is interested in one it is a very good bike. I will post some pics of it when I get home.
  9. When I was taking my motorcycle training(to get cheaper insurance, back riding after 15 years of not) One task we had to do was accelerate to 60 km's/hr(about 40 mph) watch an instructor in front of you point left or right and you had to brake and avoid by turning the way he pointed... Sounds easy enough, except they also teach us to turn off our fuel petcock every time you leave the bike.. So I come back from a break, its my turn to do the test and halfway up to speed my bike bogs down......had to reach down quick and turn on the fuel while still trying to acheive that minimum speed for the test...I did it, but did not get up to a fast enough speed, I failed that test, was humiliated by "rookie riders", but I did pass the course...
  10. I just used the "Donations" button on the top toolbar of this page again! Any of you that read my " The Oficial "I Dropped My Bike At Vogel" Thread" know that I decided to donate $5.00 for dropping my bike. Well, yep, I did it again! And it happened the same way as last time. I was stopped on a slight hill ready to make a left (blocking traffic for our ride at the M&E), and as I started out the tranny popped into neutral! Leaned for the turn + sudden loss of momentum = oops! I laid the RoadSofa gently on it's side, stepped off and "walked" it back up. Heck, I even keyed the PTT button with my little finger as I was lifting, to answer Muffinman when he asked if I needed help! Oh well, stuff happens!
  11. Talking about myself here! The weather in Florida the last few days has been colder than usual. Since the RSTD is kept in the garage over night, I had to use the choke the other morning to get the bike started. After a few minutes of high idle, I pushed the choke in A LITTLE to slow it down. Got on the helmet, climbed on board, and set off for a short trip to the next town for a Dr. visit. I immediately noticed that the bike was not running "right". It was a little sluggish and idled slow. In fact, it even stalled at a traffic light. I thought that maybe the idle had gotten turned down too far somehow so, when I got to my appointment, I turned it up a bit. On my return home, it was still not right. I stopped at a gas station and filled the tank, thinking maybe I got some bad fuel. I started the bike and, for reasons I can't explain, I leaned over and checked the choke knob. IT WAS STILL OUT! No wonder it was running like crap. O.K. you cold weather residents, stop laughing!

    Raider

Went to the Long Beach Bike show yesterday. Saw the new Raider:( Sat on it.... The most uncomfortable bike I have sat on in recent memory!!!! What were they thinking? In a line up that includes such great bikes as the Stratoliner and the RSV this thing is sad:confused24:
  13. My 1983 venture overheats and I cant find out why. I have replaced the thermostat, water pump and the radiator cap. The fan comes on and runs the correct rotation and at the right temp. No mater what I do it I cant find out what is causing this and I have taken in to the repair shop and they don't know why it is doing this either. I let the bike sit for about five years but when I decided to ride it again I took it into the shop and had the carbs serviced and what ever else it needed. Hope someone can help me out with something elese to try
  14. And what season is that? Wrist-in-one-piece season. I'll let my photos explain how I've spent the last three months after an unfortunate two-wheeled accident at Whistler Mountain Bike Park. Suffice to say, I'm doing much better now that I'm on the Venture again. Brothers and Sisters, Rejoice! For today, we ride! Trond
  15. The dealership I originally bought my VR from has since shut down after the last hurricane damaged it one too many times. Anyway, when I needed to bring my bike in for service they allowed me to borrow a motorcycle trailer as long as I left my DL & CC until I returned it. The place I am currently thinking of taking it to for service said they will come and pick up my bike, but of course for a towing fee. While that is ok, I am wondering if my old dealers policy is still going on in other sections of the state/country? It seemed like a nice customer service gesture at the very least. What are your experiences?
  16. Finally got the 91VR home this afternoon. There was some question about the black/gray paint scheme being the original color. I thought it was probably a repaint since evey other 91 I've seen....I think??... is dk.blue on lt.blue. So tell me what you think... The tag on the frame member is gone so I couldn't get the manufacture date. The bike still needs a lot of TLC, but nothing that can't be handled. I think it might have been a Venture Line display bike with all the chrome hanging off of it. The only ding in the plastic is below the right mirror. Luckly it's in the black paint and easy to repair and touch up. I'm looking forward to making it a show piece. Corbin seat and backrest, chrome radiator cover, polished out risers and passenger floorboards, polished out engine covers, woodgrained dash and ignition cover, and lots of Lemon Pledge. Engine runs strong, and brakes and clutch are good. WoooHooo!!!!
  17. The first: I put the key in the bike and turned it to the "start" position and all that came on was the accessories. I had to turn the key back and try to get it to stay in between the "accessories" and "start" position to get the bike to turn over. Is this a problem that I can fix without having to buy a whole new ignition switch? I am hoping that something is just loose and can be tightened. The second: Not a huge issue but would like some advice. I would like to clean the carbs out and was thinking that I could do it the way I used to on my old Q-jet that was on my Chevelle; just shoot some brake cleaner down each carb and then run the bike to flush it out. I have done this on many different carbs and never had any issues. Is there any components on the RSV carbs that may be negatively affected by the brake cleaner? Thanks, Bubba
  18. We had a last minute impromptu meet and eat tonight at the Thurs bike night at Jerry's Sports Grille on Atlantic and Hodges. LetHimRide (Ken) and his wife, Georgia came to unveil their fully airbrushed 03. The artist did a remarkable job! KWTrains, Poppyrog and myself were there also. It was a balmy 65 deg out and there was maybe 100 bikes there. Sorry, but pics of Kens bike will be posted some time soon. OK, so I forgot to bring a camera...shoot me. Stalked a possible new member who rolled up on a white RSTD. Gave him a card and introduced him around and invited him to the site. I believe his name was Ron.
  19. My audio system started to on it's own cycle through all functions at will especially when vibration was present. engine idle, going down hwy etc. It would work perfectly normal with bike setting and engine off. The Mechanic suggested as has been suggested here to check all connections behind the fairing behind the dash . I did that and I also applied dialectic grease as suggested on posts here. To no avail. I took it to my mechanic @ the dealership & helped him troubleshoot the problem. We noticed that even with the main control pod turned off the sound of the cycling through the speakers was still present. To make a long story short it was deduced that the main brain located behind the top fairing just behind the cassette deck tape slot was the culprit. They ordered it directly from Clarion and it came in in about 1wk. Thank God it is still under warranty because the brain is 1,000 dollars if I had to replace it. I also had the main switch replaced 2 wks ago when they trouble shot the Audio. That is another 3 to 4 hundred expense that I would of had to endure. The Yamaha warranty is awesome. My bike is an 03 as you can tell top of page Duh! No other bike in the world would be under warranty 4 yrs out would cover these problems. I also have about 62,000 miles on my bike. The K&N yamaha dealership service manager just called me ironically as I am doing this post to see if everything is functioning properly. That's service. I have bought all my new bikes from them for these reasons. K&N is the oldest yamaha dealer in the U.S. established 1957. The Head mechanic has been there for 20yrs + and can work on anything. The junior mechanic age 21 just won the top Yamaha mechanic competition for North America by Yamaha Corp. and went to Japan to compete for top mechanic worldwide. Guess where K&N got there name. Norm Mcdonald owner was partner with the k ( I can't recall his name) but they designed the K&N filters many of us use and love. Norm sold out his portion of the company some time back. K&N is in Tulsa, Ok. I apologize for going on and on but with all the bad press some dealerships receive on this sight and the nightmare reports that a positive report might be due.
  20. My nephew bought a new Stratoliner "S" this spring.. What a GORGEOUS piece of work that baby is.. Personalizing it with additional chrome add ons he spent over 18 grand on it... He didnt even have 1000 miles on it and some low life stomped down on his rear fender and did a bunch of damage to it... Personally,, I chalked his bad experience up to pure jealously - sure makes you wonder though... Yesterday I have my ol 83 out playing in the cold.. Tossed on the leather sled suit and took a refreshing ride at 20 degrees... Only stop I made was at a local store for a few minutes,, I parked up next to the building in the motorcycle area.. I get home and discover that someone had kicked the left side bag guard hard enough that it had broken the mount for my backrest off the guard and bent the guard back and down against the bag.. Our local area has been experiencing a lot of this kind of stuff.. All the powers that be blame it on our Michigan economic situation, home forclosures, bored kids/adults,,, whateverr... As I worked in my garage earlier straightening out the mess the thought went through my mind of just how far we have fallen - I mean, come on folks,,,,,, jealousy over a 24 year old bike that was one of the most unwanted,, overlooked,, unpurchased scoots of its time???? Wont be long and the jerks around here will be willing to risk 15 years for Grand Theft for a stupid Chinese Moped.... On the same note,,,,,, I WOULD LOVE TO CATCH EM JUST ONE TIME!!!! Sorry,, had to fume... 'Puc
  21. Hey folks, any suggestions on a bike jack to lift up the bike in my garage to clean and do minor repairs. Any suggestions and tips are useful. Thanks, John...
  22. A little history: As most of you know, I have been trying to track down an electrical charging glitch which rears its ugly head at the worst times. I have replaced the side stand relay (not the sidestand switch), the rectifier/regulator, performed voltage drop tests and all was well. I then installed a "Heads-Up L.E.D. Voltage Monitor from Signal Dynamics Corp, which is micropressor controlled. It flashes red, green or yellow to tell you just what your charging system is doing, 50,000 times per second. This thing is so sensitive that the charging light goes from full green to yellow when any light is applied such as brakes or turn signals. It seems to have the worst draw when I turn on my driving lights, which run through a relay. Tonight we rode to a restaurant where the red light came on and stayed on for several minutes, indicating a failing charge condition. We never shut the bike down and rode home. A few minutes later the bike showed normal charging again, so the problem seems very intermittent. When I got home the bike fired up perfectly several times. it also started right up after 2 hours of sitting. Now to my question(s): Has anyone here ever installed this gauge on their bike? Im thinking that this gauge is really super sensitive and the variations that I have experienced are normal. SO, if you have installed this item on your bike, how has it responded? Was the green steady, or did it fluctuate whenever brakes or signals were used? Driving lights? etc?
  23. This past summer I noticed on several ocassions that my temps were going up a little quicker than in the past when it was hot. A couple of years ago I did the bikini side panel mod and it seems to have helped in keeping the bike cool. This was even the case when I was pulling a 450 pound camper. Wednesday I took the bike to work with the morning temp being about 40 degrees to be able to ride home home with it 70 degrees. In my morning ride the temp gage never got off the bottom. Normally it would still go up to about 1/3 on the gauge for that distance. Well, I finally got down under the bike and discovered that when I pulled the engine to replace the gearset, I must not have set the bypass to the correct position. It normally has the top of the lettering pointing toward the five oclock position. I was 180 degrees off. I rotated it around and took a short ride and the temp gage went up to about 1/3. It is easy to understand the temp staying low during cold weather, but I suspect that the getting warmer quicker during hot weather was due to the coolant going thru the radiator too quick to cool adaquate. 24. Hey all, I believe several of you guys have exchanged the rear end for the v-max style setup. Can't seem to locate any posts regarding performance, power etc. So my question to those that have done it, is basically how do you like it, are you happy you did it, how does it affect overall performance of the bike, etc. My rear is noisy, and was thinking about going that route, but looking for some genuine feedback first. Thanks, Art
  25. Here is a 10,450 lb bike ! http://fr.news.yahoo.com/ap/20071120/img/pwl-aptopix-germany-monster-80d8f7133bb90.html www.Mic-Mutes.com Bill Morphy
