  1. I'm still committed (pun intended) and the bunkhouse sounds great. Sorry to be a pain about being a "David" vice a "Dave". If it helps you can call me about any other name or nickname in the book (my wife's favorite is Sh_thead).
  2. Great pics Bobbie. Thanks for the fun weekend. Very grateful for George's help replacing the stripped bolt on my saddlebag trim rail. Definitely need a carb tune next trip. Looking forward to coming back in November with Riverdance and Mini-stigator
  3. I'm interested in 1 2nd Gen Pin. Bonus that it is the best color, black cherry.
  4. This is the post I was remembering. I believe I may have the same issue with my reassembly of the junction box. Seeing as you didn't remember which way is the correct way to run the cable around the wheel, I'll first try reversing it from what it is now. Maybe I'll get it right the second time. David
  5. George, thank you so much for calling and explaining the bleeding procedure and Don, thank you for explaining in writing. It went well, even by myself. I have a large squeeze clamp for woodworking that I used to hold the lever closed while I opened and closed the bleeder valve, with a piece of tubing to capture the fluid in a jar. I also used the plastic cap from under the cover to keep the reservoir from spurting fluid out while pumping the lever. Took a long time (of course), but was successful. I took lots of pictures of the whole installation and plan to write it up for future do-it-yourselfers. The new handlebars felt great during a relatively short test ride, but discovered the 5% that I didn't get right. I seem to recall Don posting about a similar problem in reassembling the cruise control cable, because that is the function that is not working right. I thought I wrapped the cc cable in the same direction on the throttle linkage wheel as I observed it when I opened it up, but maybe I was confused. I guess I'll have to remove the tank again to get to the throttle linkage wheel and try wrapping the cc cable in the opposite direction (next weekend). In the meantime I will search for the thread that I vaguely remember seeing that talked to that problem. The whole installation took me the entire weekend, but I was going slow and methodical and capturing notes and pictures. Thanks again for the help. I don't use the cruise control during my normal commuting anyway, so no big deal. David
  6. Help! I got the handlebars installed and the throttle cables and brake and clutch lines replaced for the segments that tie directly to the levers. There is no pressure in either the clutch lever or front brake lever. I don't know how to fill the new lines or bleed the air out. Anyone with step-by-step? Thanks in advance. David
  7. I bought the kit: flanders bar, cables, and kuryakin grips. I've searched for threads containing installation instructions, but most refer to the Venturers site. My computer warns me of potential malicious software if I even try to go to the site, so I am hesitant. Does anyone have detailed instructions on this site or a .pdf copy of the instructions? I'm reasonably handy and will wing it if not. Mostly unsure about whether or not I will need to bleed brake and clutch lines once replaced and not sure how to do that. Any instructions would be appreciated. Thanks David
  8. Yep, J&M bag is great. Probably 10-15K miles with mine. Solidly squeezed between shield and fairing. Great for quick access to little odds and ends.
  9. Something over a year ago (two maybe), a similar thread was created posing the same question about what people carry in their bags and trunk. A substantial list was generated. Can't find the thread, but probably because I don't know where it got relegated to.
  10. I have to cancel going to the rally! I am so bummed. All of my military folks are on leave and we had a huge issue arise with one of our programs involving "help" from Congress and our leadership and there is no one I can drop this responsibility on for my own selfishness. The burdens of being in charge I guess. I hope I can still get the T-shirt and patch I paid for. I hope everyone has a good time. Man this sucks! David
  11. Goose, Could you elaborate please. I added a Y-splitter (actually three way splitter) off of the jack inside the fairing. One goes to the cassette aux jack (which I don't really use), one goes to my GPS audio, one goes to my iPod. My problem is that when I have both the GPS and iPod going, the audio level is significantly reduced compared to when only one or the other is on. "Something to isolate the two devices"? What means this? Any way to hear both sources simultaneously without the volume for either being cut in half?
  12. I had a problem with stuttering front brakes too. Brake pads had plenty of life on them. Replaced them anyway and the stuttering was drastically reduced.
  13. I like the worldwide aspect of the logo, as I very much enjoy reading posts from those wacky Aussies and Canucks. Now that we are ruled by Obama, perhaps makes sense that the world is represented as communist red. (kidding)
  14. Slight variation to the work of other more creative people. I mounted a garage door button similar to SteveP and photo-documented the procedure that others may find helpful. David
  15. I ride to work every day on the crappy patched pot holey roads in Crystal City near the Pentagon and I have the same thumping sound in the front when I go over bumps. I have concluded it is the fairing bouncing against the rubber spacers that keeps the handlebars from hitting the fairing directly.
  16. ...in so many ways. One, the bike didn't come unglued from the trailer. Two, the trailer didn't cause damage to your car or anyone else's. Three, you got a new to you bike (sorry it had to be a 1st gen . Four, you got a great wife to make the long trek with you. Five, the "familia" took care of you at every turn. I'd say that bike is already blessed. David
  17. I think the latin name for that species is "driftwood"
  18. My Streetpilot 2820 works fine with the buddyrich cable. There are two jacks on the side of the unit. One is for audio (to the aux jack in the fairing and one is a mic jack (to the buddyrich cable).
  19. George and Bobbie...be glad you were not home. Witnessing your home getting damaged might have been harder to deal with - like watching a video of someone falling off a bike and wincing at the pain you know must be there. Hope it gets fixed quickly. David
  20. I'd be interested in changing my spark plugs, but don't know if the job is too big for maintenance day. Comments? David
  21. Halfwitt, I know a guy in York who might be interested in joining us for lunch. He rides an Ultra Classic, but he's a nice guy. Works for BAE (BMY to those who know the area long time). He's also a Patriot Guard rider. I won't extend the invite if you're full up and I don't even know for sure if he's free, but I think he'd enjoy meeting folks in our group. Let me know. Thanks David
  22. No, my brother-in-law said he had a full metric tap and die set, but when I took him the bolt, it turns out he doesn't have the right one. So I'm back to square one to find someplace local to match up the diameter and thread pitch. Doubt if Home Despot will carry it. I'll have to comb the local yellow pages or something.
  23. I had read the posts about drilling new holes so the guard rails would line up with the bottom edge of the bags, but then I read the posts about just bending the rails. Which is what I did. After mounting the rails in the existing holes, I put a little weight on the rails with my foot and slightly bent the rails and they line up nicely with the bags. No fuss, no muss. Still need to figure out the metric tap size for that bolt though.
  24. I'd be very interested in having Rick do my pillow top, but I can't deal with the down time of not having a seat - I commute with my RSV every day to work in all weather. It would be awesome if Rick or someone had a spare seat for temporary loan. One could receive the loaner, ship their own seat to Rick and when their seat comes back modified, send the loaner back, or on to the next customer in line. Cost to receive and return the loaner would naturally be the responsibility of the person needing the seat. David
