1. on my old Shovelheads I just installed the gauge in the rear cylinder exhaust rocker shaft with a fitting like this http://www.4hd.net/images/products/2hn55rc09lei.jpg Don't be alarmed when the engine is hot and at an idle when it shows no pressure. as long as you have good oil pressure when you first fire it up. Another thing to doo is to eliminate the oil crossover line from the front to rear cylinder rocker box and run lines directly to each cylinder, as when you first start the bike the oil goes from the rear cylinder exhaust rocker shaft to the rear intake then the front intake and finally to the front exhaust. here is a link to the complete set up on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/LIQUID-ROCKER-BOX-OIL-PRESSURE-GAUGE-60-LB-PSI-HARLEY-SPORTSTER-BIG-TWIN-71-/221045871045?_trksid=p2047675.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222001%26algo%3DSIC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D11%26meid%3D4232785290657694384%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D1005%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D261119421073%26

HF trailer

Is anyone using this trailer, and if so how is it working for you? http://www.harborfreight.com/600-lb-capacity-78-inch-tag-along-trailer-66771.html http://www.harborfreight.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/image_11385.jpg
3. yeah but you can probably switch it. I had a button missing on my cassette player and just switched the face plate

6. Great I appreciate it. The other thing I am looking for is one of these if I can find it. I did find one but it is not in that great a shape. Thanks again.
7. Thanks....I checked out that web and it does look like them and the grilles as well. I haven't seen them on ebay, but now I may be able to..Thanks again
8. Does anyone know what company made the lights that go in the light bars that wrap around the trunk and saddlebags? I need to find a replacement for one as the lens is broken. Thanks for any info....
9. Those of you that are interested in getting a few tips on carrying a passenger may want to take the experienced rider class. Here in Pa a passenger is allowed to ride with the driver on all excercises but the first one. we try to coach both operator and passenger during the course.... Just food for thought
10. Well, since I just bought this bike about a month ago the first thing was to get in running and Pa inspected. The carbs were done, all fluids changed, new brakes front and rear, plugs, air filter etc. Now I am going to replace the plug wires, install some accessories I purchased, lighted front fender bumper, trunk lights, front rotor and caliper covers, repair a few plastic pieces, and repair that pesky thermostat cover leak and it will be ready for the spring. Depending on if I decide to keep this bike or not, maybe look into a trailer!
11. Everything I have read on the forum indicates that from the heat the thermostat cover warps and leaks I had thought as you that the pipe was the culprit till I removed the lower panel and then started it cold and checked it. I could then see a slight leak at the front of the housing maybe the housing wasn't cleaned well or the cover wasn't seated correctly could even be loose bolt or a hose clamp
12. I see it as a two part line for a 1989. Part numbers 26H-26471-02-00 steel line 26H-26472-00-00 from cylinder
13. If it is like mine, it doesn't leak while sitting overnight, but it will once it is started for a few minutes and stops. It was not the o-ring for the drain valve pipe but the thermostat cover.
14. Big thanks to CECDOO for coming through and giving me the grips he had from his 87......
15. Stainless steel line do make a difference in braking. have had them on past model bikes I have owned. Don't get me wrong this bike stops as it is intended to do, but brake systems have come a long way since 1988....
16. My glide weighs in around 875lbs. Have been riding them since the 80's. They handle better at slow speeds than the Venture seems to. But on the highway at cruising speed the Venture reacts much quicker to inputs. I teach the motorcycle safety courses so I always use both brakes when stopping. I was out on the range practicing quick stops and the Venture just would stop longer at the same speeds as my Suzuki or Harley does.
17. Well I took the beast out for it's first semi-long ride Sunday, about 100 or so miles. After working on it for a few weeks , cleaning carbs, repairing the brakes, changing plugs, and all the fluids (coolant, brake fluid, rear oil etc) it was time for a ride. Nice day here on Sunday about 68 so the girlfiend and I said lets go for a ride. She usually rides her own bike, 1997 Honda Shadow VLX 600 but she wanted to ride on the back. The bike rode well and she liked the rear seating and the noise level better than my Electra-Glide. It's not quite as heavy as my Glide so it went through the twisties with ease. Plenty of power and to my amazement everything worked, cruise, self cancelling signals etc. I do have to get used to the hydraulic clutch engagement, and the brakes! Doesn't stop as quickly as my other bikes, but I guess that is because of the linked brakes. The engine temp stayed way down in the green even in traffic. Fuel mileage was 34-35 mpg about the same as my Harley in town. So overall it was a nice ride, and the bike really performed well.....

19. Is it necessary to remove the housing from the bike to just replace the cover/o-ring?
20. Thermostat cover is leaking slightly in the front.....checked it earlier and thats where she's leaking.
21. When I looked up there this morning it seemed to be coming from the o-ring where the drain valve pipe goes into the thermostat housing, but I could not get a good view with the spoiler on. Tomorrow I am going to remove it before I start it to get a better look. I did pick up that particular o-ring at the local dealer before I changed the drain valve o-ring in case I neede to remove the valve. I repost tomorrow when I find out for sure
22. I have already checked all that other good stuff. had to replace one muffler bearing it was squeeky....The piston return springs looked in good shape though
23. Thanks for the info. I will check that out
24. what size socket do you use to remove the brake pad pins from the caliper? Is it a 6mm 12 point? Thanks
25. Ok so I had the coolant leak at the drain valve, so I repair that with sky_docs kit. No more leaking there. When I leave the bike sit overnight there is nothing leaking, until I start it, then it leaks a little and stops. Will not leak any more the rest of the day no matter how long it sits, or how cool the outside temp is. Did not have this leak before. Any ideas? I am going to pull the lower chin fairing off tomorrow before I start it to see where it is coming from. has anyone had this happen before?
