  1. U-haul trailer I rented was an open trailer with a ramp... I believe it's referred to as a 5 x 10 ... worked great for me @ $25/day. I had no problems loading / unloading the scoot and it's got tie hooks in each corner at floor level. Best way I found to tie the front was running the tie-down thru just above the bottom triple tree. If you use a good nylon tie-down, be careful of any sharp edges that might fray it ... I had to put a thick cloth between mine.
  2. I'm not commenting 'coz this subject is too depressing and frustrating.
  3. Wish I could afford that luxury ... then I might see the "real world" need. In all the years I've been riding, I have never put more than about 10-15 thousand miles on in any one year. Not once have I ever even thought about "what the upcoming weather is going to be ...and wished I had some gadget that could tell me" .... When I head out for a trip, I take what comes. The worst I've encountered is hail and temps as low as 5 celcius with rain ... I could see the hail storm coming so ducked into shelter till it passed... the low temps/rain ... stop and warm up...then off we go. As for maps and such, I rarely go into areas where I find it difficult to figgure out my route...stop at a gas station ahead of time and ask directions if need be. I've been to most major centers in Canada and a few in the USA ... San Francisco, Houston, Chicago to name a few of the larger ones... yep, a GPS would have been nice in those 3 places but not necessary. The use of the product doesn't justify the cost for me. Having said all that, if my retirement plans work out, 25,000 miles a year will be "normal" and I'll probably be wanting a few luxuries such as iPhone & GPS ... or whatever the technology is at that time (coz in 3-5 yrs from now it will be entirely different LOL) As I said tho... to each their own and I'm certainly not knocking anyone's choices.
  4. I must be getting old or something. I've been in the technology field since 1987 professionally and frankly, when I leave my job I don't even want to see anything that even resembles a computer. A cell phone that does a good job at making phone calls, is easy to read, and has an easy to use keypad is all I want. All that other stuff is nothing but unnecessary clutter IMHO (for me). To each his own tho and I have looked at the iPhone and yes, they sure have a lot of gadgets and gizmo's and I had no problem figguring out how it works right from the get-go but those things are for not for me...and I sure don't need an additional monthly expense for yet another "toy". I guess I just don't see a "real world" use for it other than using it as a phone.

    how is everyone

I'm just sittin here readin the posts and tryin to think of what to say.... I got me a set of Road King mufflers... going to install them this weekend. I recorded the sound of the stock mufflers and will record the sound of the RK's when I'm done...then I'll post them for all to hear. well, that's all for now...can't think of nuthin more to say.... 'cept Have a great evenin!
  7. Netscape???... what's that?
  8. toilet seats aren't acceptable? :scratchchin:
  9. bringing this back to the forefront as nobody has responded to my Q.
  10. I've read a number of posts about drilling out the RK mufflers but am still not clear on this... do you drill out both ends or just the "aft" end? anyone? ps... I just got a set myself and have the same small hole in only one muffler...you can see it from the outlet end.
  11. HEY! that doesn't look like the dash of a motorcycle....!
  12. Only problem with disconnecting the battery that I can see is you'd have to reset the clock and saved radio stations. I like the battery tender idea...gonna have to get me one for next winter I recon...eh!
  13. Those bikes they have on the "Harley Demo Days" are not necessarilly in "primo" condition. First one I tried had absolutely no air in the rear shock and you could really hear and feel it "bang" going over bumps...second one was fine. I also noticed that some seem to vibrate more than others (same bike style). Apparently they can "tune" them to a point of minimal vibration.
  14. I also used this method to get my son's Sportster running after it had been sitting for 3 yrs. Brand new battery....it just wouldn't fire up...removed the filter, squirted gas in and voila` ... but it would die as soon as that gas was used so had to keep squirting gas to keep her running. Noticed that the slider in the carb was stuck from sitting so long so had to take the carb apart and give it a good cleaning. ps...squirt the gas while you're cranking it and watch out for backfire out the carb (don't ask me how I know this) LOL
  15. Wife & I test rode an '09 Ultra a couple times. We both liked it. Only time it vibrated noticeably was at idle. Was very smooth at highway speed... very nimble at low speed. Very little wind. I would have bought one if I had the bucks. I like the '06 RSMV that I did buy but the Ultra still turns my crank.
  16. Around here, insurance generally covers anyone who has been driving for 10 yrs or more as an additional driver. So, if I wanted to, I could "lend" a person my scoot and if they wanted to pass a few bucks my way (under the table of course)... who'd be the wiser? (just throwing this out there)
  17. That looks great! thanks for those pics. I am planning to fabricate my own brackets once I get the mufflers (they're currently being shipped to me). There's an article elsewhere on this site that shows how to use the Stock flange and I think I like that look because it covers up the "quick transition" from the small header pipe to the full thickness of the muffler and makes for a "smoother" transition look (IMHO)
  18. My '85 had the on-board air compressor and having owned both an '85 and an '87, I prefer the '85. It was faster and more stable at higher speed than the '87 and because the bags were removable, was a big plus. The main thing to watch for on pre-86 is that second gear has been fixed....even if it's a low miler.
  19. Man... I think I'd rob a bank or something!
  20. A person would think that whoever the mechanic is at the dealer, that person should have been able to figgure this out .... yet they state they "just don't know" ...???? If the grouves are directly adjacent to the wrist pins, one would think it's an easy diagnosis eh? If the clips came loose, whatever happened to them? Could it be possible that when the engine was originally manufactured and assembled, those clips didn't get installed?
  21. very nice I don't think I'll use those though as I'm going to adapt the flange off the stock mufflers which basically covers up those fancy chromed clamps. Stock HD clamps should be fine (or are they fancy chrome too ?) ....haven't actually seen them yet.
  22. so, you're suggesting we hit 'em and honk afterwards? RIGHT ON BRO!
  23. I agree on that because my '87 has a much better battery than what my '85 had and even a new battery, if it's a cheap one, won't give the best cranking power under poor conditions such as what we're talking about.
  24. This is Canada ... 08 here runs $17,500 I believe (if there's any left). In any event, if you compare apples to apples (09 RSV to 09 Voyager) ... they're priced very closely.
