What's soft on the inside and hard on the outside?
SilvrT replied to Snaggletooth's topic in Poor Man Tips and Fixes
Looks great !! my wife did the same to our '87 and she's planning to do it to the '06 (one of these days). On the '87 we had a divider that ran from front to rear about 4" in from the right edge. It was held in place with velcro tabs on each end. I got that idea from my '85 which had it when I bought it.- 23 replies

This is exactly the same proceedure used for the Sea-Bond denturite product I've been using.

LOL @ rande.. My dentures are in good shape... teeth are still sharp, etc... it's just that the lowers now fit quite loose due to gum shrinkage. Dentureite is not a "stick-um paste or glue, etc" .... it is actually a 2-part mix of a powder and a liquid hardener that you mix together, pour into your denture and place in your mouth ... almost like what a dental mechanic might use.... it solidifies to the shape of your gums but is still pliable. It wears out after a month-2 months. Like I said, been using the stuff for many, many years and there's nothing else out there like it. It was always available at various drug stores... now all of a sudden none of them have it. Almost makes me wonder if the dental mechanic's "society" has boycotted the manufacturer to stop producing the product because it takes away a lot of their business (a do-it yourself kit). I first started using this product way back in the middle 70's. Can't believe after all this time they'd stop producing it. Kinda gets my feathers ruffled that it's not available. Oh well... mebbe I vill habta go wifout mu teef!

I know a lot of you are "older" (like me) so there's a good chance many of you have dentures (like me). In fact, I've had dentures (uppers and lowers) since I was 23 yrs old. I'm 28 years into my second set (pretty good by most standards). Up until about 3 years ago, they've fitted pretty good. The first set lasted about 5 years before the fit started deteriorating. Anyhoo... I HATE spending tons of money at the dental mechanic's for a re-line so I've been using a product called Sea-Bond Denturite http://www.dentist.net/sea-bond-denturite.asp to reline my dentures. I love this product ... it does a great job and lasts about 2 months. Anyway, all of a sudden none of the places I normally found it carry it anymore .... it's like it's just not available. If I can't find this product, I'm doomed! ... it will mean I have to go to the dental mechanic and have them re-do my dentures (too old to re-line according to them) to the tune of a few thousand dollars. Anyone else experiencing my dilemma? Got any suggestions?

nuther dumb thought... is the charger set for 6 volt or 12 volt? maybe these lights aren't for automotive 12 volt? just a stab in the dark here...
-
dumb question but have you tried them again on the charger after trying them on the scoot...???
-
yup... in a protected area with direct sunlight I can believe it! You guys over there tend to get more sunshine than we do and we also seem to get more outflow from the valley that keeps us a bit cooler. So, with all that warmth, were you out on the scoot? I just got mine all back together after a thorough take-down & maintenance / inspection. Replaced the front tire with a 130/90 ... lookin fwd to see how it feels.

No idea what is available today but several years ago I acquired a fairly good slide scanner for a client (cost around $2000 at that time). It had an adapter to hold something like 8 or 9 slides and the "lid" was the part that scanned the slides. Can't recall the make of it now but it did a very good job and was quite fast. I seem to recall that there were only about 3 scanners to choose from that would handle multiple slides and the next one up was over $5000. It was a SCSI connection as nothing else at that time could provide a decent data transfer speed. Not much help for ya but I can suggest that a better quality one will probably work best.

When I had my '87 which had over 100,000 kms I tried synthetic and the clutch started slipping under load in 4th (a bit) and 5th (quite a bit). I've read where others have experienced similar and the rule of thumb seems to be that if it's used to non-synthetic and has quite a few miles, don't change to synthetic.

At least he didn't high-side it LOL

Piston ring / piston condition
SilvrT replied to dingy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Just a wild guess but carbs out of balance might ... 1 & 2 running richer/leaner and/or hotter ... causing compression rings to fail sooner maybe???? like I said... just a wild guess. -
One should drill a small "pilot" hole first (either from inside or outside) ... appx 1/8 inch. It will make the 5/8 one easier, especially from the outside and the 1/8 will be a LOT easier from the outside. If you take a centre punch or something with a sharp point and give it a whack (not too hard) where you want the hole to be, the 1/8 bit will catch that and stay centred when you start to drill ... use a variable speed drill and start slowly and once the bit starts cutting you can pick up the speed (if drilling from the outside) just my $0.05

Rick... when your in the process of putting it all back together, get a tube of "brake lube" aka "anti-squeal" and apply a small amount to the parts of the brake pads (the backing plate & other metal parts, not the brake pad surface) that touch or rub against the caliper points/pistons and other similar points.

I just bought a new front tire and the shop quoted $24 off the bike, $45 on the bike (front or rear) to mount & balance. Truthfully, I don't think they took into consideration what was needed to do for the rear coz this shop deals mainly in sport bikes. Don't matter anyhoo coz I'd be taking the wheels off the bike myself (mainly coz I don't trust a shop to do it right)
