  1. I've had my 2000 since Feb 2000 and no leaks anywhere. Only have a small birdie chirping away somewhere deep in the engine.
  2. Unfortunately nbw that I have looked at the flasher it has 5 prongs. So that means the company that I was considering wont be able to help me out. They only sell 3 and 4 prong flashers. So back to the drawing board. It seems that the running/blinkers on the front are too dim to me. Now that I've changed in back that system works well but I'm still using an incandesant bulb there and want all LED's without the change in blinking rate.o
  3. No problem with the flasher or bulbs. I plan on changing to all LED running/turn signal lights. Rather than putting in load limiters for the turn signals some of the flashers will do the same thing or at least one website said so.Thus the need to know. I've added running lights to the rear turn signals but am still using incandesant bulb for the turn signal and want to use all LED's both front and back. Thanks for the info and yes, THESE GUYS ARE GREAT!!!!! I have gotten tons of info from here over the years.
  4. And what type is used in the rsv? that is the number and shape of the prongs.
  5. Where is the crack? If the bike has been dumped on the left side the crash bar could be bent and placing stress on the mounts as a result cracking the cover.
  6. Two questions. Where is the flasher located and what style of prongs?
  7. http://www.superbrightleds.com/ Here is a website that may have what you want.
  8. I found a pump at Wal Mart for this very purpose in the oil section. Now all I have to do is drain and replace the oil.
  9. Had my shoulder dislocation fixed 3 weeks ago. Tell her "I feel her pain".
  10. I installed hot grips on my RSV soon after I bought the bike.seven years ago. If I remember correctly the only problem I incountered was that the throttle has "ribs" on it. So you will need to sand/grind the ribs off of the throttle after removing the OEM grips. Everything that I needed came with the kit that I bought. An epoxy is used to cement the Hot Grips in place so be sure and position the grip where you want it. Make sure that the movement doesn't interfere with the action of the throttle, clutch, brake etc. You will need to place the heat sink somewhere. I put the heat sink under the triple tree so that it would have plenty of air as I rode. I bought a micro switch for mine and located it on that plastic cowl that goes around the fuel filler lid. This requires drilling so you might not want to put it there. The Hot Grips switch is three way, Low-Off-High. Hope this helps. BTW I use a fused relay that that is only on when the ignition is turned on. that way you can't walk away and run the battery down.
  11. See it all. If you can head around to the north rim. Totally different experience. Climate is different. Not as desert like on the north rim. well worth the trip if you have the time. Our route to the GC was from williams to the south rim then headed east around the canyon to Marble (gorge canyon ?). Then up to Kanab Utah to spend the night. Then back south to the north rim. Very windy and cool/cold on that day. If you can head down to Sedona as well. Go north to south on this trip Georgeous scenery here as well and lots of switch back roads heading down into the valley leading to sedona. Watchout for severe thunder storms, hail, lightening, dark of night.....Bad if you get caught in one of these storms with no place to hide. Even worse if you get caught in a flash flood. All of this can happen in a hurry while traveling in this back country. Have lots of fun. I would make this trip a gain in a heartbeat.
  12. What Rich said. Changing the tire might help the whine if some of it is coming from tire cupping. Check the steering head tightness. Leveling links are said to help the handling, but for me the tire made enough difference that I wont go to that bother or expense. No matter what you do this bike will never be as nimble as the 1st gen.
  13. I think they had mine a week doing the clutch basket thing. when that didn't work they then had to get the final drive parts in. All in all i think it took two or three weeks.
  14. On warranty work the dealer dare not do any thing Yamaha doesn't approve of other wise the dealer is out the cost. Sometimes the dealer makes the correct diagnosis but Yamaha has other ideas. So the dealer does what they are told and then if that proves wrong they get permission to do what is needed. My bike is an example. When I took it in both the dealer, mechanic and I all agreed that it was the final drive that was at fault. But at that time Yamaha was pinning all of the whine problems on the clutch basket. So the dealer replaced the clutch basket. Of course that didn't fix the problem only make more noise. So then Yamaha let them replace the driveshaft back. Problem solved. Since Yamaha pays the bill they will have the last say on warranty work. Be patient. Go along with them, but don't take no for an answer.
  15. How much of the diff. was replaced? When mine was replaced in 2001 my dealer insisted that Yamaha replace everything, the drive shaft, the pinion, and ring gears, bearings etc. His idea was that since I had put about 5000 miles on the bike since the problem began then everything would be worn aswell as just the obvious. I havn't had a problem since.
  16. Think of the intake hole to the airbox as a 1/8th inch long tube. Enlarging this tube isn't going to help much unless you enlarge the tube leading from the airbox to the plenum. Also the engine is drawing from both airboxes at a time but only one carb at a time. The carbs arn't any larger than one of the intakes. So you have plenty of air getting to the carb. Lastly, if you modify the airbox you may void the warrenty, and will be inviolation of federal law. My two cents. By the way if you really want to breath freely just clamp a K&N onto each of the carbs.
  17. I think that this has been posted before but I can't find the answer by searching. Question is: does the 1st gen have 4 piston calipers? If I remember correctly Rick Butler made the switch, but I can't find the thread.
  18. I have the avon white walls. Smaller front tire improves handling. The white walls look great.
  19. Mine came loose too. The shifter was still kind of in place so I thought that the transmission had locked up in second gear. Pulled over, put the screw back in place and back on the way.
  20. My CD player has a zip tie holding the plug in place. Cut the ziptie and it comes right out.
  21. Here's a Corbin for someone. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Corbin-Dual-Touring-Saddle-Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture_W0QQitemZ140143395371QQihZ004QQcategoryZ35566QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem And another. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Deluxe-Seat-for-Royal-Star-Venture-by-Corbin_W0QQitemZ270149283535QQihZ017QQcategoryZ35580QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  22. Yep, that was a nice set-up. Wonder what happened to the molds?
  23. Think I would take a look at the front tire and make sure there is no cupping. Mine wobbles more as the tire wears. Tighten up the forks if needed, play with air in the forks. Could be any number of things.
  24. What they said.
  25. I've been using the the JCW unit for a couple of years now and havn't had any cracking. Don't know if there is a difference in screens or its because I tighten the center screw first and work my way to the out side. Anyway I like the shorter wind screen in warm weather and I'm not looking through a reflection as I was with the taller windshield. Finally, the price was right.
