  1. I just hard wired my gps off the wires to the cigarette lighter. It is switched in/off with the key and can handle the amps of the gps with no problem. Easy to find too!
  2. I got the Genesis tail light for Christmas. Yup it is REAL BRIGHT. In fact I wonder if anyone knows of a replacement for the Pilot light bar many of us put on that would be as bright as the tail light. It kind of looks like I am riding brake there is such a difference.

  4. I started smoking back when I was in the Army. Some of you remember, back in the day, the "C-rats" had a small pack of cigarettes in them. (a 4 pack was it?) Anyway that was the beginning of a decade or so love affair. At the end it was a pack and a half to 2 packs a day. I noticed I would cough in the morning, my lungs were kind of sqiushy sounding and I knew something just wasn't right. SO ... after about a hundred tries I quit. The night before I quit I smoked up almost two full packs - one cigarette after another. Just so there would not be any in the house. What happened though is that I kinda OD'd on nicotine and I for sure didn't want a cigarette the next day for love or money! Kind of gave me a head start in quiting and I haven't touched one since. Although there are times in the morning over a good cup of coffee that I have thought about how good a cigarette would taste with that coffee. But then I think about it and NAH!!!
  5. I rode from Mission, TX to Seymour, IN last August. I left after church on Sunday spent the night in Houston and then in Memphis. The roads were all in great shape and other than being HOT it was a great ride. Just plan out how many hours in the saddle you would like to spend and then schedule overnights near that saddle time-limit. Remember getting there is more than half the fun! Enjoy!!
  6. I am just around 6500 between my old 2000 Ultra and the '99 RSV. hmmmmmm I need to get away more next season.
  7. Just got rid of a 2000 Ultra and I have to say with great respect to '99 RSV in my garage that I liked the Ultra better than anything I have owned over the last 30+ years. Someone already said that every bike has their pluses and minuses. And that sure is true. But if money was not an option I would own another Ultra. Not that the RSV isn't nice 'cause it is. It's just that the Ultra seems to have more . . . personality . . . somehow.
  8. Mine did the same thing until I tightened up the steering head. There is a tutorial in the 2nd Gen Tech area for it.
  9. Kingsizer should have the DVD on Tuesday. Thanks for letting me view it. My biggest learning was the use of the rear brake in tight slow speed turns. I have taken FEET off my turns! Now I just have to continue practicing until it becomes second nature. Thanks again.
  10. I have used the Blue Jug Synthetic for a while but in our area the walleeworlds have upped the price from $14 to $20 in just the last few weeks. All of the locals have followed suit. I guess it just goes to show - no more cheap oil!
  11. The stator issue was with the 1200's. Those would be from 1984 - 1987. In my opinion - The 1500 Wing is a great bike for long distance cruising. Not as much fun around town though due to slow speed handling issues. I have owned 3 goldwing 1500's. They are reliable and solidly built. They will run for 100's of 1000's of miles with proper maintenance. If you like the looks and the price is right then take the leap and RIDE IT!
  12. I just ordered an ignition switch from Zannoti's. https://www.zanottimotor.com/shopping/partLookUp.html They were by far the cheapest and it came in a reasonable amount of time.

  14. Thanks pa don. I really didn't want to have to put in a new petcock! Did you put any loctite or something on your's or did it just friction fit back in?
  15. When I was taking my fuel tank off to replace my ignition switch I think I broke the outlet off of my fuel petcock valve. I had loosened and pulled the clamp back on the fuel line but then the line didn’t want to come off. I tugged and tugged and twisted and tugged some more until POP off it came. That’s the good news. The bad news is - stuck in the end of the hose was the brass connector. Since I am a relative yamaha newby I am supposing that I pulled the connector sleeve right out of the petcock. It probably isn’t supposed to do this - am I right? Is it broken? I just ordered a replacement petcock but I can cancel it if somebody will tell me that this is the way the Yamaha petcock disconnects from the fuel line! Thanks

  17. JB, Took a chunk of the bolt I removed from the ignition switch down to the local hardward store and they fixed me up licketysplit. I had an option but went with the allen head. Now if the brown truck would show up I could be riding this weekend!
  18. Any way you'd be willing to take a picture of one of your spacers or make a scale drawing of your work of art? I want to put the risers on but this issue is one I want to solve in advance. Thanks
  19. You can take the contacts out of the new ignition switch and place them into your old switch. It really isn't the switch that goes bad - just the electrical portion. Take out 2 philipps head screws and voila the contacts are in your hands!   20. A '94 wing is a good bike. ENJOY! I have had 3 of the gl1500's and had a blast on each of them. I kind of like the www.gwrra.org website - but honestly they charge you AND they seem a wee bit mean sometimes. But there is a lot of tech info you can get w/out being a member.

  22. You guys are great! The only problem is that I am awaiting the brown truck with my new switch on it before I am going anywhere. I figure I'll split the fairing on Monday and see what it holds for me. I went by Autozone and they had a relay that would work so I can get everything that I need - all I have to do is make sure that I need it. Thanks again to all you guys that help guys like me!
  23. JB - I got the bolts out by first using a sharp drill. The material is softer tahan a standard bolt. Then I used a proper sized bolt extractor and they both came right. Not any problems at all. I ordered the new switch from Zanotti's per a reference here on the site. $118 delivered. I am going to get the bolts from a local hardware store. They seem pretty standard. Have fun!
  24. Hey guys thanks. Wayne, Am I right to say that the only way to see if I have a relay is simply to trace the wires?
  25. When I pulled my ignition switch out I had some heat related issues on the red wire. It would seem to me that that problem stems from the addition of the driving lights as they are the only non-standard item that would add draw. I am not sure how to do it but it would appear that the best way to eliminate the load on the switch would be to put in a relay on the driving light circuit. I am sure others have done this. Would anyone care to share how difficult they found this to do and what challenges I need to be prepared for? I sure would appreciate it.
