  1. Brad, I saw that in the Tech Forum and plan to give that a shot. Thanks.
  2. JB - did you get er done? I have my old one out and am just waiting on the big brown truck for my new one. When I took the old switch apart the wafer-like plate where the contacts are was cracked. That may have been part of my problem.
  3. Well I need to quit messing around and get the ignition switch replaced. I was kind of hoping the problem would go away but it isn’t going to. I was ridding home from church tonight when my bike just went dead. After I coasted to a stop I turned the switch off and back on & thankfully it fired right up. Does anyone have a recommendation about who to order the switch from?
  4. Won't the shorts bunch up under your jeans? Or are you talking about compression shorts?
  5. I have one of those rascals and while it is a hassle to put on I wouldn't want to ride without it. Try putting some leather conditioner on it and then put it on. It is kinda like a new pair of boots, tight at first but in time - ahhhhh! Don't give up.
  6. JB, Are you putting the temp handlebar switch on as well as a new ignition switch?
  7. Mamma and I have been using the J&M headsets for years with pretty good success. The shorty headsets have a slightly longer boom on the mike. The folk at J&M have always done us right. www.jmcorp.com oh but don't buy it off of their site - others sell them cheaper. Go figure.
  8. I just got back with my new to me '99 RSV. On the ride home (from McAllen, TX to Indiana) I pulled in to get gas in Arkansas and when I turned the key on afterwards - nothing. Thank God after I turned it off and then back on it all came to life. So I am going to be changing my switch also. JB have you secured a source for your switch? Does anyone have a recommendation or should I just head to the closest Yamaha dealer?
  9. Sorry Pegscraper maybe some other time!
  10. I don't know about the mounts - but I like the music!
  11. I'll be running through Houston on Sunday evening 8/3. Won't be leaving McAllen 'til after church. Then stopping by a friend's for a dinner and a few winks and then up before dawn to head north. Thanks to everyone that has offered a cold drink or advice. I'll be in a hurry to get back so I won't have time to take anyone up on their ride offers. I just want to say - I have read on this site for some time and I am struck by how nice most all are - even to folk that might in some ways appear rude. i am grateful for all that I have learned and hope to be able to return the blessing.
  12. O o o o o h! I guess I better pay more attention. This thread was talking about passenger cupholders DUH! Sorry.
  13. So a cup holder won't go on the handlebars? I have one of those Willy's cupholders I have on my Ultra and was hoping to ues it on the RSV too.
  14. Yup Goose, I will do just that. There are a few things that I will have to think about and not just do as if I am on my Ultra. The turn signal switch is different for one thing so I will just have to take the time to re-learn the bike. Been riding since around 1970 but as a creature of habit new bike controls and such will be a challenge. I am looking forward to it though. By the way I will be coming from McAllen, but I am staying with someone in Houston as I exit the HUGE state of Texas. (I just never realized that big could be so BIG!) Thanks for the offer of the meet though.
  15. Yup, I don't lean on 'em just use 'em. But I was concerned after reading one of the posts about a guy that hopped on a RSTD (I think it was) and high sided because of the rear brake. It was in a thread about the integrated system some have installed.
  16. Thanks Randy. A 32lb box of gear is already on the way down to my friends including Plexsus, a microfiber cloth for the windshield, and my digital tire pressure guage.
  17. Hey Guys – Great Site! I’ll be leaving Sunday, after church, for 6 days of family vacation. Then I fly to TX to pick up my new (to me) ’99 RSV. This bike is known to me. I used it for in exchange for performing the maintenance on it 4 years ago when I was between bikes. (The friend that I am buying it from has ridden it regularly but only short distances since then. He has only put about 1200 miles per year since he moved to TX). Since that summer 4 years ago I have ridden about 25K miles – about 10K on a 1500 Goldwing then about 15k on a Ultra Classic. What do I need to “watch-out” for as I get used to the RSV on my 1400 mile ride home? (My friend is taking it to the Yamaha shop for a once over so I am not concerned about the mechanicals). I am thinking about some of what I have read on the site. Is the stock handlebar position going to kill my shoulders after being used to the Ultra? Are the rear brakes “that” touchy”? Maybe I’m getting old and forgetful but I don’t remember anything that kind of stuck out at me about the bike other than it made me smile to ride it! Thanks for all of your help
  18. I am flying to TX the first weekend in August to pick up my new RSV. I decided to send a box in the mail with EVERYTHING I want to have along. That means I can go through security with nothing but a book to read!
  19. The sad part about the HD's is that the bike is not that great "out of the box". If you spend that much money it really should work better than it does. I have TC88 Ultra Classic and ride with guys with new ones. They are 'burn your leg' hot & until you spend money on a fuel management system and a hi flo air filter you are not going to cool them down. Even on my 2000 Ultra until I put a power commander on it, it was way too hot. Don't get me wrong I like the Ultra but it isn't the perfect bike that some die hard Harley guys want you to believe.
  20. I feel likethe guy on "Get Smart" - "Missed it by that much"!
  21. Thanks for the reply! I am planning on shipping all my gear to my friend's in TX and then ride back home again to Indiana! Thanks again.
  22. Hey guys (and Gals if applicable), I am going to pick up my new to me '99 RSV in a couple of weeks. I am buying it from a friend that let me use it one summer when he was busy. The question I have is this: I have a set each of the saddlebag liners from my Ultra Classic AND from my old 1500 Goldwing. Does anybody know if either of these bags will work acceptably in the RSV bags? Thanks very much – I enjoy the site and appreciate the willingness of others to share the wealth of their knowledge.
  23. Mark, I saw on line a dealer in California where you can get one for less - however less doesn't always make something a good deal. If you trust the dealer. If you like the bike. If you have the dough. Pull the trigger and let'er go!
