  1. Very nice!!! In the pix that you posted showing how other owners load them down, I noticed that most of them had a lot of lighting installed as well. Evidently the Ural has a heavy-duty charging system? Looks like you are in for some fun.
  2. So.....sounds like you bought one??? Or soon will??? Congrats! You'll have to keep us all posted on your journey with that classic. Joe
  3. Hi Jonas, No longer have the Venture, went back to the Goldwing. Just can't get them out of my blood. About the only other issue I had with the Venture was the horrific clutch basket whine/chirp/scream. Overall very good bikes. Joe
  4. Jonas, I had a 99 RSV that had the same symptoms. I first noticed it at night (obviously)....the lights would dim, then get bright again after maybe 5-10 seconds. Then the cycle would repeat. Several days later I was riding in the daytime and the bike died and would not crank at all, dead battery. Got it home and started testing....to make a long story short, the wiring harness plug that connects to the regulator had a burned connector in it, the one that goes to the large red wire. Therefore, the battery could not charge properly. Turns out that this is a common problem, at least on the RSV. Could possibly be your issue as well. All I had to do was clean and tighten (squeeze together) the female side of that connection and plug it back into the regulator and the problem was solved. Good luck!
  5. My next one will likely be the Pitbull. There is a video on youtube that someone from this site posted showing his RSV on the pitbull. VERY stable without even strapping it down. Even with my Wing strapped down on my red Craftsman, it isn't as stable as I would prefer. I have also seen video of a guy jacking up a Harley dresser on a pitbull, not tied down, and then climbing up onto the bike with it up in the air. Stable as a rock. Very impressive. I need to start rat-holing some funds to get one.
  6. I assume that this will teach you to not assume.
  7. No thanks. I didn't see anything at all in that video that is appealing to me. The older I get the more I hate the cold. If I want to run trails and snow covered fields in the winter, I'll buy an old Jeep and stay half-way warm anyway. For those who like running in the snow on an open machine, the Ural looks like a good way to do it.
  8. Those things make me drool.....until I look at the price. Dang, I could buy a brand new RSV, Goldwing, or Victory tourer for that money. Whew.....I like nostalgia, but not that much!
  9. That dealer is in big doodoo!
  10. There are several important details that I am not clear on regarding this transaction, and they make all the difference in the world. 1. When did he "pay in full"? Did that occur when he took possession of the original vehicle, or when taking possession of the second one? I don't know the details, but I'd think the dealer would collect the payment and have paperwork signed before the customer drove home with the first vehicle. 2. Which vehicle was described on the transaction paperwork? Was it the first one or the second one? This will be crucial....if the VIN and description belong to the first one, then the customer is absolutely on the wrong side of this lawsuit. He paid for the original and not the second. If the paperwork describes the second vehicle, the dealership is in error and had best find a very good attorney. Both parties in this could have avoided the issue by just doing what my parents taught me. And that is "Always do what is right. Even if it hurts." Who is greedy here? The dealership, or the customer? Show me the paperwork please. Joe
  11. I've not met Larry in person, but still feel like I know him through this forum. God bless you Larry and Joyce. May your healing be quick and complete. Joe
  12. In addition to the Voyager kit, you should also consider the Richland Roadster. It has torsion axles, so it is virtually impossible for uneven roads, bumps, potholes, etc to cause your drive wheel to lose traction. And they are really priced competitively as well. Probably what I will go to if the need ever arises. http://richlandroadster.com/

  14. Wow! One of the prettiest RSV's I've seen. Good work!
  15. It's great to see that Squidster is doing it the RIGHT way......he's wearing his VR.o Tshirt!!!
  16. I only use that forum when I need to learn something. I socialize here. Those dudes over there can get pretty mean spirited. Joe
  17. My advice would be to register on gl1800riders.com and read what they have to say. A real wealth of info there. The people can sometimes be jerks....not as friendly as here....but they really know their stuff when it comes to your 1800. A lot of owners do it themselves. It's not all that tough from what I've read, just have to follow instructions and take your time. I'm planning on doing mine this winter. I've replaced my rear shock spring, it can't be anywhere near as challenging as that! Joe
  18. Although....you might want to consider this: http://cyclemax.com/inc/sdetail/120/125438 On this page there are 3 different cb antennas you can choose from: http://cyclemax.com/gl1800_electrical?cmx=120&start=100 I have bought a lot from Cyclemax. In my opinion they don't come any better. Gary is an upstanding guy. Good luck. I run on channel 29, go through Ohio every now and then. Maybe we'll cross paths. Joe
  19. You can get everything you need from Wingstuff.com for $715 (OEM). Not sure you'll do much better unless you go used or 3rd party.
  20. Hey Brenda, I'm not trying to argumentative, just pointing out some things you may not know. The GW 1800 can be lowered. The fork tubes in front can be slid up just like you do with the Royal Star. And, there is a company selling a shock-mount bracket that lowers the rear as well. It isn't cheap as it is a cast/machined block....around $300 if I remember correctly. Add a lowered seat and whammo....your feet are flat with your knees flexed. Enjoy what you ride and ride safe! Joe Edit: Here is the info on lowering the rear of the GL1800. http://lowerwingproducts.com/index.html
  21. Does the onboard CB work through the SM10? Info on their website seems to say that it does, but I'd like confirmation. Thanks.
  22. Wish could give me about 4" of your leg length. We'd both be more comfy on our bikes!
  23. Well......let's have a debate here. I have owned 2 RSV's (both 99's), one GL1500 Goldwing and my current GL1800 Goldwing. The lowest seat height out of those 4 (Measured by my ability to reach the ground) is the GL1800. I wear a 28 inseam pant size, and those are even a bit long. The specs on the GL1800 say the seat height is 29.1 inches. Where are you getting the 32" from? That being said, just today my spare seat was delivered to Mean City Cycles for modification. They are going to lower it and narrow the front so I can hopefully flat-foot it. I should have it back in roughly one week from today. Can't wait to try it. My RSV's both had pillow top seats, and were a stretch to reack the ground, even more so than my current Wing. Joe
