  1. Thanks again all. after giving it some thought and putting my somewhat mechanically inclined mind to work on something other than work, Ugh while staring at my bench vice hoping for some inspiration I decided to bend the stock mirrors just short of straight and gained the almost 2 inches I was wanting. I went slowly and made sure I didn't damage the chrome. They look great and work like a champ. Something else I did this week was replace a broken Kuryakn ISO grip and reinstalled the stock weights back into the handlebar. I simply drilled out the middle of the ISO to accomodate the weight and screwed it back in where it belonged. Yes the throttle side needed a spacer in order to be able to tighten it down and still leave a little gap for the throttle backlash. Works like a champ and looks great too! Mongo
  2. Thank you Gentlemen. Unfortunately I don't think that 1st Gen Mod will work on my 2nd Gen. Looks good though, thanks for sharing. I think my problems will be solves with some extensions that I found on ebay. Ride safe and enjoy the ride. Mongo
  3. Has anyone found a good set of similar to stock mirrors that have an extended stem. With the addition of my dog trailer I need some additional height to my mirrors to see over it. The right side is a left handed thread on the RSV. I just found that out as well so the vast majority on the market will not work. I wouldn't mind just adding an extension, but again they are right handed as well. Thanks
  4. Any feedback on the harness repair and cb error message? I have had the same error and I checked from nose to tail. After checking every connection that could possibly effect the cb and I got all everything back together it worked fine again for a couple of months, now the error is back. Like a bonehead I failed to grease the connections in the fairing so that will be my next move. Any other suggestions? Mongo
  5. Thanks to all for the replies. Now I have some more homework to do before my next step. That is exactly what I was looking for and I really appreciate all of your advice and experience. Mongo
  6. My 06 RSV has 12.8V / 30W auxillary bulbs in it now and I would like something brighter. Before I start to experiment and blow fuses, how high can I go on the Watts before I start to blow fuses? On my last bike I actually had 40W landscaping lights and they worked well. They are the exact same bulb size as what is in there now. I am not really interested in spending a ton of money on the LEDs and I would like the lights to still match the headlight. Thanks Mongo
  7. THanks to all for the reply. That is very valuable info. Mongo
  8. While performing some routine maintenance on my bike, I removed both sides of the (what I call airbox) under the tank, that connects the hose from the airfilters into the carbs and found that they were wet with oil inside them. The foam gaskets that mount the two sides together were pretty wet with oil as well. Is this an issue or normal occurence? At first I was thinking it was fuel since they open to the carbs, but it was definitely oil. Where is that coming from? They were not dripping wet and there was more on the left side than right, but it was enough to get my attention. Thanks Mongo
  9. I have actually gotten 217 miles out of a tank on my 06 RSV. Much of that was on back roads with top end speed of 55-60, but I was very pleased to go that far. I was told from several RSV friends that they usually only get 180+ so I was pushing the limits to see what I could do. Ok also because there were no available gas stations as well... I have also seen the 1 gallon hard plastic fuel cans that fit into your saddlebags. Amazon sells them as well as numerous other bike sites. Don't buy the one specifically for Harley because it costs $20 more, but I think the average can goes for about $40. I know several folks that have them and love the piece of mind having them. My recommendaton would be to use them in a fill up regularly to change out the fuel and relieve any built up pressure.
  10. I cut mine down 1.5 inch and worked great. I cut from the bottom instead of the top so I didn't have to worry about the possibility of a bad cut of sand job. The oval cut leaves a lot of bad possibilities and cutting the bottom was very easy. Also you can find an assortment of good short shields for reasonable price on ebay as well.

    CB error

Thanks Freebird. You are indeed a wealth of knowledge. Mongo
  12. Well, since the knucklehead I bought my 06 Black Cherry RSV from cut the antennae off and stuck them under the trunk I had no choice but to upgrade. I simply removed the existing antennae and took a tap to the mounting hole, made it 3/8 and mounted the firesticks to both sides. Not to mention I painted them Black Cherry as well and hung and American and Marine Corps flag off of each one and they work great. I metered the cb antennae and all work great. That is up to yesterday when I got a CBer reading on my cb, but I am thinking that is a wiring issue and nothing to do with the firesticks. I have a couple of other friends that put on firesticks and had no issues as well. Good Luck. \Mongo
  13. Thanks for all of the feedback. This is one damned cool site! I have no clue what a rev limiter is, but I will keep my eye out for it! I am usually in 4th gear from 40-60 then into 5th/OD from 60 on especially on the Highway. That is either solo, 6'5" 225 or two up, + or minus 180. Good thing she never reads this forum!!!! Ride safe all. Mongo
  14. Starting: I have noticed when starting cold my bike starts on the 3rd try every time, but never on the 1st or 2nd. Yes this is with choke pulled out etc. This is seldomly a problem on a warm bike. Shifting: I have been told to really get the rpms up before shifting and waiting to almost 65+ to shift into overdrive. Good gouge or bad gouge? Thanks Mongo

    CB error

I noticed some old threads about this problem and although one post said checking the wires under the seat fixed the problem, is there any other issues anyone has come across? although I know one day I will need to crack the fairing, I am trying to put that off if I can, otherwise I will start under the seat. ANy other advic? Thanks
  16. Yes I did see all of the service manuals on the forum and did download them, but if I had a nickel for every lap top I had ruined with dirty greasy fingers, I would be a millionair! I like to be able to thumb through pages, make notes etc. Printing one of these is problematic, but yes very useful. thanks... Mongo
  17. Thanks for all of the insight. I will have to see what I can do about that as it sounds like a good time. As for the manual info, I couldn't find anything for a cyclmore manual and cyclemore didn't produce any joy either. DO you have a website by chance. The best I have found is a 97-03 manual online for $25 That's not bad and if all are saying nothing has changed from 03 to 06 then I will be golden, but if there is a better one, more current one out there I would prefer that. Thanks again for any additional info. Mongo
  18. Thanks Fuzzy, Freebird and Ponch. I think it has something to do with Cali emissions as well. I have seen all of the other posts and researched all areas for answers prior to asking. I appreciate your assistance. Mongo
  19. Thanks Kreg. Is there a "to do list" for hosting a maintenance day or is it however I want to put it together? My concern would be everyone would show up expecting me to be the expert, then I would be in trouble! Mongo
  20. I am about to mount one of Ponch's built center stands and I see a 6" long 3" diameter black tube with a rubber cap on it with a rubber hose running out the end mounted to the angle bracket where I need to mount the stand. First, what is this part and what does it do? Second Is there a relocation mod for this or is this part not necessary? Before I start taking stuff off I would like to know what I am doing before I mess something up. Thanks for any insight I can get... Mongo
  21. Is there ever any Maintenance Days in the Southern California Area? While I have been riding for many years, I am new to the RSV and am looking to learn. Also where can I find a book style manual for my 06 RSV? I have only been able to find a CD version and the books stop at 04. Any assistance with all of these questions would be greatly appreciated. Mongo
  22. I guess we need to trade MRI/CT pics. I am going in on the 29th for my second back surgery. After years of disk compression and degeneration I will have my bottom 3 disks fused together since there is next to nothing left between them. I had two herniated disks in the 80's and lived with sciatic nerve pain down both legs for many years. 27 years in the Corps and still going strong will do that to you I guess. Gotta love Navy medicine! Good luck getting your fixed. I have always been too damned stubborn to pay attention to pain and it has gotten me pretty messed up at this point. Hopefully I will be back to riding fairly soon. I still plan to make Sturgis this year. Mongo
  23. Anyone have some helmet locks laying around they are not using? The previous owner of my 06 RSV took them off along with many other things and I would like to have some back there. Of course I would need a key to go with them. Let me know what you want for them and I am sure we can work something out. Thanks Mongo
  24. Looks like I missed out. I didnt see this thread until today. If there is any chance of getting two of the 3 1/2 inch patches I would be much obliged. If I am too late, I understand. Just let me know. Thanks Mongo
  25. I read the old threads and have looked at Rivco's product, just can't part with the $300+. Anyone out there have a center stand they can part with or know of someone that is looking to get rid of one? Thanks Also Semper FI to all other military veterans out there. Happy Armed Forces Day. Mongo
