is this security alarm stock?
Hulign replied to mike042's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I deal with a ton of alarms here at work. If you know nothing about it I would carefully trace each wire, figure out what it's hooked up to and interrupting and REMOVE IT. No good can come from something like that on a motorcycle. They draw too much, aren't designed for the vibration and add questionable wiring. Be glad to help in any way, Frank -
Keep up the fight James! When I was much younger and far more foolish I spent some time living in my car. It was hard then and can only imagine what it would be like now. I hope the extra bit I threw in your paypal helps make things a little easier. Take care and best of luck Frank 99hulign@gmail.com

So sad..That poor child. I do notice around here if it's a Harley they never mention the bike but they go out of their way to mention it's an import/racing/sportbike, like they are evil. I notice she was riding a Honda racing bike?? Here most accidents involve HD and the story starts with "they were leaving the bar". Had one a while back that hit a parked car at 60mph or so. This is why I prefer to ride alone and refuse to go on poker runs. I do like to go fast but I keep that stuff on straight empty country roads. Ride safe everyone. Frank

Thank him for his sacrifice!!! There are those of us that still know freedom isn't free. Congrats!! You must be very proud. Frank

This sounds like a joke but isn't... You could find a really bumpy road to drive down and have someone mess with it till it lets go. (OMG what have I typed) Hit the gas/brake hard a few times too. Frank

Some of these lock based on position and can be a bugger to get the pawl to release. If you can't get to it you might be kind of hosed. I would bump it around as much as you can to see if it will pop but not much to tell you other than that. cut the belt and replace? Frank

Horsepower And Torque Chart RSV vs RK
Hulign replied to SilvrT's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My 2008 RSV will be dynoed in Topeka in August. It's a yearly Vmax thing but I plan on seeing where mine stands now. I will post it up. I know it's nowhere near what my Vmax had though Frank -
You beat me to this one... That't what I was thinking for lights but will actually do a different switch. LOOKS SWEET! Frank
-
Haha to each their own but I loved the looks of my Vmax. As for comfort, it was ok when it was just me and short trips around town. It was the longer highway stuff that did me in. Mine had sportbike wheels and radials which helped a lot in the looks department to me.

So I borrowed my Vmax back and let my buddy take the Venture for a week. It's been a few months now since I sold it. I climbed on the Vmax and it felt like a toy! Light, easy to change direction and the POWER! Haha First time I wound it thru first and hard into second it stood right up. I giggled my butt off till about 30 miles into my ride.... then the pain set in. The rearsets never seemed so extreme and the seat was like concrete. It was nice to have the wind in my face again but it was an odd experience to say the least. I guess that explains why the Venture is already gaining miles. Also explains how I managed 600 miles back home last week without being crippled. So now I need an extra 50 HP on my Venture. My Vmax dynoed at 135 HP or so I think the Venture needs to have more cause of the extra weight the Venture is wearing. Maybe after the warranty is up? Frank

Thanks for the extra reminder. Nebraska actually requires under/uninsured insurance and I carry 2x the required. SUVs are expensive! We also checked the trailer coverage when we towed it home from CO. Its funny to see myself older and responsible haha Frank

I don't mind paying a deductible and I dont feel the rates are bad. They have always done right by me for claims I was just a little shocked when she said it might split the claim. For now we will leave it as is. Might do some shopping next month though Frank
-
Wahoo!?!? That had to be a few wrong turns in a row! haha We were actually thinking about heading south but changed our mind last second. I will be heading down to Topeka for a dyno day in late August 27-28 and prob to KC for lunch or dinner at Los Corrals just for the hell of it SOON. Just thinking about it makes me hungry! If we bring the bike that way I will hit you up for riding plans. Frank

Ok so while making the list of stuff we are taking on this ride I see the $$$ of the electronics we will have on board. The Zumo 550 I just bought,netbook,ipad,2 high end cell phones and ipod is almost 2800.00 in "stuff". Yes I am a geek and I consider these things NEEDED. So I called to check our coverage to see if I needed to change anything and was informed that everything but the GPS would be on my renters policy and the gps would go on the bike policy. So 1000.00 in deductibles!?!?! Remind me again why we even bother to carry insurance? I wonder if this is just State Farm or is every company like that? Maybe it's time to change companies? Thoughts? Frank

Hahaha the marshmallow butt should so be in your signature...awesome! Frank

We were both so excited we had a hard time sleeping...haha Thanks for the words of encouragement! We will learn a lot by winging it. Will be updates as we go. Frank

Donation made.... next time I hope to make one WITHOUT dropping the bike first...haha

Took a short a ride ride after work tonight. My girl was a little chilly so we pulled over so she could throw on a hoodie. Came to a parking lot and turned it around...came to a stop and put my feet down and didn't notice how much of a slant we were on. ALMOST caught it.... but before I knew it...it was on the crash bars. We climbed off and I was shocked. It really doesn't fall too far. I grabbed it and picked it back up. Checked it for damage, could barely see the bars had touched. Pretty darn cool. Been riding since I was 18, almost 24 years now. This is the first time I have ever had one fall over while I was on it (short of a wreck back when I was 18). Embarrassing but not much I can do. My girl was fine and the bike is unhurt. But I guess I now owe a donation to the fund? Who do I pay? Frank

I have a 4 day weekend this week. Been trying to decide what to do. We have decided to start the bike after work on Friday and head NW. Hoping to end up at MT Rushmore. So far our longest ride in a day has been 350 or so. We are starting prep as of 1 hr ago. The bike needs nothing but the GPS put on. So anything we should make sure we don't miss there? Best food? Neither of us have ever been there. Seems crazy to just head out without planning but thats half the fun right? Wish us luck!! Frank:12101:

Raising Rear Back to Stock
Hulign replied to Rickster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The rear wheel doesn't have to be removed but you do have to pull the axle(bags, muffler(s?), pull the caliper (including pulling the brake line) and bleed the system. Unless you are planning on selling the parts or 100% sure you will never go back to lowered I would leave the brake in place. It isn't hurting anything where it is. Frank -
Raising Rear Back to Stock
Hulign replied to Rickster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
You could just put the stock links back in and leave the rear caliper as is. in that case like 15 mins or so to switch links. -
Oil filter brand
Hulign replied to Galapagos's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I have been using the Bosch 3300 on my Vmax for years. Looks like the same part fits the Venture. That's what I will use
