  1. I'll have to call them tomorow and see if they can make a set in black. I like the original look. Your dash turned out nice, I want to keep the 83 gauge plate because the numbers are larger and easier for me to see. I have a temporary speedo from a 86 in there now but I have problems seeing the numbers. Yours looked good before the white face, I wish I had those on mine.
  2. Does anyone know if a new or reproduction gauge face plate is available for a 83 VR? I had mine apart the other day to oil the speedometer and tried to clean the face and wipped the numbers off. They were white but now they are faded yellow and smeared.
  3. I just went through the same issues with my 83VR. Spent 80$ on a DEKA AGM battery, solved all my starting problems.
  4. Mine work great. I installed it the day I got it. Went on a 250 mile test ride the next day. It preformed flawlessly. I have better throttle response and acceleration. No more hesation and 41 mpg, can beat it. I need one for my V-Max next.
  5. Got my 83 last year with 52k on it. 3 weeks later it was road ready and now has 59k.
  6. Got mine today and did a quick installation to give it a test ride. WOW what a big difference, this TCI is awsome. Thanks for the hard work Gary. I may have to get one for my V-Max now.
  7. I could use another CLASS controller, my window is cracked and fogged. I need a replacement. I was almost to the point of removing mine but I finally got it to work.
  8. Does anybody make rebuild kits for these? The rubber check valves in mine are starting to crack, its making the pump run too much.
  9. I rode the Venture to work today and wow , that battery makes a huge difference. I don't know why but it seems to even run better.
  10. The FexEx man just brought me new Deka AGM battery. I am supprised at the starting difference. The other battery would start it when hot but it was always slow even though the battery is almost new. The AGM has more CCA and after a ride to heat the engine up it started easily. I'm convinced now, no more wet cells in my bikes.
  11. Looks like the majority have gone to the AGM, so will I. Has anyone use a dry cell?
  12. Thats what I was leaning to. What part # and who makes it?
  13. I need to replace the battery in my 83 Venture . I see there are many choices for battery types, AGM, Dry cell, Lithium and traditional wet cell. I find so much information on them I can't put it all together. I really don't want another wet cell so I'm looking to go to something else. What are the advantages / disadvantages of each and what are your opinions for the best battery at the best price. I plan to keep the battery in the stock location and position.
  14. You can get a real good bench sync by using a piece of paper instead of the bread wrap wire. I use a 1/4" wide piece and adjust each carb so it just pulls through. If you set each one so the pulling tension is the same you won't be very far off with the sync or idle speed. Check those float levels while you have them off. High levels will cause bad mileage.
  15. We'll ge everything in the first pic, right? For 225 count me in, I need one for my 83VR.
  16. Did you note the plug color when you replaced them? A rich mixture will cause the conditions you explain. I agree with the others about the TCI and YICS, I'm just thinking of other possibilities.
  17. That screw is possibly the bowl drain screw, it needs a new o-ring. If that is the only problem its a easy fix, remove the screw and install a new o-ring. With your mileage decreasing I think you have a float problem with that carb, its overflowing and leaking into the cylinder. Sometimes they can be fixed by draining the bowl to flush out the offensive dirt. Drain the bowl through the little hose under the carb then turn the key on and allow the fuel pump to refill the bowl. The pump only runs for a few seconds so you will have to turn the key off and on to keep it running. Do this several times and see if it stops overflowing. Check the fuel level on all carbs while at it. It might be time for a carb overhaul.
  18. Once you have ruined the screwdriver slot on the jet there is not much to do other than drill it out. I use left turn drill bits(regular bits turn right) to get them out. It works every time. You can get them at some auto parts stores or hardware store. Drill the first hole with a 7/64 then follow with a 1/8, this will allow the larger bit to grab the broken jet and turn it out. Drill bits are cheaper than a new block. Of course you will need to replace the jet when done.
  19. Wish you well Dingy I had a similar procedure done 6 years ago, it helped alot with the leg tingling and pain. It took me 3 months before I could ride again but I made it. The biggest thng you can do to help yourself is follow doctors orders and give it time. If you have a few extra pounds like I did LOOSE IT. Loosing 50 # was the best thing I did for helping with the back and leg pain. I went from 270 to 220 and the back pain is mostly gone.
  20. Sirius is out of stock now, otherwise I would have bought some.
  21. Thanks I was looking on EBAY last night but did not find that one.
  22. I need to find the slide diaphrams for my 83 VR. I have found the complete slide assembly but I just need the diaphrams. I can't find any specificially for the Venture but I find them for XS and XJ11. Since they are both BS34 carbs are the diaphrams the same? I know the slide part is a different diameter so the assemblys will not interchange. Sirius Consoladated has some listed but out of stock now. Anyone have a set to sell or know another source for them.
  23. I suspect your battery is going bad, go through like dingy says with known good battery My 83VR starting has been greatly improved by upgrading the starter and ground wires to #6 and adding the ground strap inside the starter.
  24. McMaster is a great place for those hard to find hardware items. I have pruchased lots of things from them. Stainless bolts shift and brake pedal bushings oil seals radio knobs stainless tubing rubber trim and much more
  25. I don't know about the compatability with the Venture ignition but my V-Max still has the stock ignition box and it is running the COP coils from a newer V-Max.
