Two of us are planning a trip from Seattle to Waco (actually Gatesville) the first of May. It looks like we have a lot of choices of routes. My current thinking is I-84 to Twin Falls Idaho then south on US-93 all the way to Bolder Dam and Kingman. Then west on I-40 to Santa Rosa NM where we can pick up US-84 which will take us the rest of the way. I have never traveled US-93 before. Does anyone know how the weather is this time of year? Especially in north eastern Nevada? I hear it is pretty desolate. Are there any sights to see along this route? Thanks Mike

I would like to pass along a thanks to Ken Austin at Auburn Motorcycle. I just had my 08 RSV serviced there and he saved me a lot of money over the normal dealer price. Mike

Of course trying a carb sync is first. But the ais valves are easy to take apart and clean. Also check the vacuum hoses going to the valves. Mike

Obviously the shop did not perform a decent test drive after replacing the tires or this would have come up. Yes they could easily have warped the rotors or it could be a defective or improperly mounted tire. Have the car checked and repaired before it tears up something else. Mike

Interesting that Yamaha dropped over 40% in off road sales but gained 26% in on highway sales. Makes you wonder who's idea it was to deplete the Star line-up. Mike

We lost one here in Puyallup Washington as well. The bike was going 100+mph in a 45mph zone on River Road. He crossed the centerline and hit a cage head on. Half of the bike was embedded in the car. The other half was a mangled mess strewn across the highway. The rider was thrown over 450 yards (4 plus football fields) and died at the scene. Mike

Mobile air conditioning systems use different refrigerant than fixed units. They operate at different pressures. Do not get them mixed up. Old mobile R-12, new mobile R134a. Old stationary R22, new stationary R410a. Also some very old stationary freezers use ammonia. Then there are the private brand names to sort out. Mike

You can purchase plastic vacuum line connectors at any auto parts store. Buy four that fit your hoses. Glue them plugged completely closed. Then drill a small hole in each. Drill the hole progressively larger until you get the result you want. Wala custom restricters. And remember they should be installed just a couple of inches from the hose ends that plug into the carbs. Mike

Also a good vacuum gauge will tell you how hard the engine is working. Mike

2003 Ford injectors are Teflon coated. Many cleaners will remove the coating. A plugged fuel filter or tank filter will just cause a lack of power. The roaring and laboring you are describing sounds like a blockage in the intake or exhaust. Sears may be trying to help but I would take it in somewhere else for a second opinion. Mike

Just the opposite for me with a second gen. I make sure the side stand is down before I push it off the center stand. Glad everything came out ok for you though. These things can be a hand full. Mike

Rear cylinders are dead

Hook an inductive timing light to the plug wires on the dead cylinders to see if they are firing. Mike -
We are currently going through another series of storms here in the Great Pacific NW. Flooding rivers, avalanches and stuff like that. Should arrive in New York in about a week. Mike

Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble with your bike. It seems unusual for a Venture. A 2009 with under 1500 miles shouldn't have carbs gummed up unless it got some bad gas. Which might have still been in the tank after the last repair. Especially since it has only been a month since the carbs were cleaned. Was a new filter installed? Check the fuel lines for deterioration. Something just doesn't sound right. Mike
