  1. No, you will not damage your threads using PLASTIC wing nuts. Another trick I learned from Dragerman doing this is to heat the bolt first so the plastic reforms easier, or apply heat to the wingnut after you have it threaded on to the bolt. Works fantastic and makes seat removal very easy. As far as how many times do you remove the seat, well, how many accessories do you install, and how often do you check your battery...
  2. Hope you recover quickly!! Enjoy the time off, I'm enjoying mine...
  3. Awwww, here I thought you were inviting us over for breakfast...
  4. Gary and Mary, it was great having you over yesterday!! Hope you enjoy the rest of your vacation! Now that you know where you are, stop on in any time.
  5. Hey, maybe we will be able to join you next Tuesday!!!
  6. I'm sure you will get many responses but here's my 2 cents. Everybody gets the whine from what I understand. I just recently bought an '09 and have only hads it for 500 miles but am very happy with it. Keep in mind that the bike is warantied for 5 years unlimited miles so they fix the whine when it happens. If you are unhappy with your dealer's service then find another dealer! The engine is prety much bullet proof and just normal service is all that is required i.e. oil changes, brakes, etc. We strongly recommend swapping the rear barke pads from inside to outside every 2K to 4K to extend the life as normally one wears faster than the other. As far as greasin g the splines on the driveshaft, well, change a tire, grease things up and you should be in good shape. Enjoy the ride!!
  7. Bike won't be ready until Friday at the earliest so we are a no go. Maybe next year...
  8. Maybe by the time you get back my last order will be paid off and I can place another, only this tim for 2nd gen parts... Have a great time, you deserve it!!!!
  9. My guess would be the reed switch as opposed to the float...
  10. Yes, the glass type, or the newer plug in type if yours has been converted, which a lot have been... Fuse box should be on top of or near the battery.
  11. The "blue" line is for the running lights, or parking lights if you prefer, or whatever you wantto call them. It is a fused line so check there first...
  12. If you have the OEM radio then you DO have the intercom, and it is just a matter of plugging in the cables for the headsets. The jacks are located on the amplifier box bolted onto the inner fairing frame. If you take off the upper fairing dash piece you will see the box with a big rubber cover on it. lift up the rubber cover and you will see the jacks where both headset cables plug into as well as where the CB unit plugs into. You can buy the cables from Siera and other places I'm sure. The CB is a different story. The '83 - '85 used a different style CB which is a 2 piece unit. The '86 up uses a 1 piece unit. If you use the '86 up you have to switch the dash piece and the class controller. Fleabay is ytour best bet but the earlier units ae far and few between...
  13. OK, is anybody knowledgeable on why the change in ignition modules from the '84 and '85???
  14. Hey, Greg, looks like you just got in under the wire at number 40!!
  15. I think it is similar to your cage. You get all excited about it when it's new but after driving it for a few years you get a little bored with it, it isn't as shiny as it used to be, doesn't run as good, etc, and your interests wander towards another new jewel. Wanderer, I just bought a new one and I too have 4 more years to go until retirement. I, however, will be retiring with a trike so the RSV will be for sale then...
  16. Moderators (or Don) please move this thread to 1st Gen Tech Talk. Thanks!
  17. OK Jeff, put me in for a set. If I fall into the 3rd order, so be it, I can wait...
  18. Hmmmm, I just used my thumbs to reinstall my pistons, but I did take the time to polish the pistons prior to reassembly, using a buffing wheel. Did you replace the seals as well?? The original ones are quite old!! Did you also rebuild the rear master cylander?? Could be IT is not returning smoothly. BTW Skydoc, that is EXACTLY how I disassembled all my calipers!! Started with 3 paint sticks because they fit perfectly between the slots, then removed one at a time and finally removed all of them!!
  19. Uhhhh, Dan, Becky told me the same thing and it took me all of 1.5 seconds to agree with her! Looked the next day, and bought the day after that. Was driving the new scoot the day after that! Got to keep Goldie, though, but the project bike has to go...
  20. The ignition module I got isn't the right one so I'm not sure if I have other problems or not! It isn't running as smooth as it should but it could be a fouled plug or something. The problem may be a different response curve for the timing as well due to the diferent modsule. I stripped the module out of the '85 and found out it is also the different module, the same as the one I acquired. The good (?) news is that the module from the '85 is bad, and that's why it wouldn't start many years ago, so I can use my newly acquired one on that one! Sooo, the module I need is a TID14-28 41R10. The one I have is a 41R11 TID14-34. It seems to me there was a member rebuilding these modules. Anybody remember who?? I have a couple needing fixin' but I supose I could take them apart and replace the glass diodes myself. Anybody out there have the module I need for sale for a reasonbable price?? The last one I saw had a buy it now price of $99 and was around for several weeks before someone finally bought it. I have bought them of ebay as cheap as $45 but that was a couple of years ago...
  21. When I read the title I thought maybe you farted and had a little more than air come out... Make sure you still have a little free play in the brake pedal, else wise the rear brake will not completely release and cause drag. You may also end up rebuilding the rear caliper as the piston may be a little gummed up.
  22. The '83s had two flaws, bad frame at the rear shock, and a 2nd gear problem. Part of me wants to say keep looking for an '84 or even better an '86 up. It could turn out to be a good bike, though. Ask if 2nd gear was ever fixed, and if the frame was reinforced...
  23. So THAT'S what they look like without any clothes...

    If I
