Yah! I like to slow charge a new battery as well with around 2 amps as George suggests. Let it charge 12 - 18 hours... -

Let the McGuiver'ing begin!!! spent the whole evening attempting to mount the arm rests and finally have a way to do it that I'm satisfied with. Passenger highway pegs were a 10 minute job. Have the grille on but it rattles agaqinst the radiator at certain RPM's. Need to do backrest and trunk rack tomorrow along with the air horn, followed by lights, etc...

radio noise filter
bongobobny replied to Wizard765's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yah! The more microfarads the better, and a working voltage of 50 volts should do fine. They DO have polarity, so the + goes to +, and the - goes to ground. Yes, "dirty" grounds can indsuce noise and even cause what is known as feedback loops between 2 different ground points which cause random spurtaneous noise. 35 years as a component level electronics techincian also comes in handy... -
No Spark at the plugs.
bongobobny replied to Big Hack's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If you had an old fashioned analog meter, or a dwell meter, you may be able to see if there is output from the pickup coil. An oscilloscope will also accomplish this. A digital voltmeter just doesn't have fast enough response time to see it. You can check for continuity though. If it has normal DC resistance reading, then it is probably OK as long as it hasn't lost ground on the one side. Sounds more and more like a bad TCI. Make sure you have 12 volts coming into the ignition control unit... -

radio noise filter
bongobobny replied to Wizard765's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
We can get them at Radio Crap or believe it or not, Auto Zone, They are can type devices that once charged, resist a change in voltage. This is important if the noise is on the DC line for the amp... -

OK there are a couple of possibilities, and you're not gonna like it. First, there is a connector for the pickup coils that can become corroded. The pickup coils are located in the stator cover, and the connector is about halfway up along the rear section of the main frame. The second possibility is the TCI has bit the big one. Good luck with a replacement as they are geting harder and harder to find on ebay and are geting around $100 or so lately. The TCI is located underneith the battery box bolted to the bottom of the coil mounting frame. Also, the connectors on the TCI can become coroded but usually only kills one cylander but caqn incapicitate everything. If the kill switch or also the kickstand switch are bad I don't think the starter will even turn over... -
Actually, surprisingly, there was no damage whatsoever to the forks, triple tree, etc. It bought the "S" model which has the chrome fork covers and they all had to be replaced, along with the fairing, front tire, fender, turn signals, etc. The final aproved estimate was around $4500 after the adjuster has his say. You, on the other hand need a sadlebag, etc because yours went down, which is going to increasae the cost. I kept ours upright somehow by the grace of God...

OK I'll post in this "Corvair" thread. Mine was a '65 Monza 110 convertable that was a blast to drive but for the 6 short months I owned it I paid twice as much for repairs than I did for payments. It was only 3 years old at the time. Traded it for a 66 Galaxy convertable with the 390. Lasted me 5 years... -
Freebird, that is one thing I will agree, the Verizon signal was indeed better than AT&T. We had no problem with a signal inside our place with Verizon but no signal inside with AT&T with many other carriers. Unfortunately it has the name Verizon and ever since this spring with that EXTREMELY rude technician who was very rude to my wife I ABSOLUTELY will have nothing to do with anything with the name Verizon...

Yes, there seems to be as many varied opinions as there would be if I asked about membership in that "Other" website (Of which I WAS a member...)
