Advice? Switching to V-Max cams
Tartan Terror replied to BadPigg's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Hey Bill, I think you got that right. His profile says still in college. I remember when I was that young I knew it all too. With experience we learn. Most of all we learn to be a little more tactful. He will learn I think. -
Advice? Switching to V-Max cams
Tartan Terror replied to BadPigg's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
For me its more curiosity that anything else. I would never sacrafice reliability for more power. I know that down the line I plan on the Dyna and then maybe after that we we will see. I have the roadking exhaust already and I would consider the Vmax cams of course depending on how complicated it is. If I could get 5 or 6 more horse then I would be very happy. Just for now getting away from the limiter would be nice. How much work is involved with changing the cams and Valve springs and is this something I could do myself to a benefit?? -
Advice? Switching to V-Max cams

so basicly depending on how much I want to spend I f I changed the pistons and rods. Put in Vmax cams and springs and maybe port the heads and also add the vboost (is this possible. I think pegscraper has it) this will be wild!!! -
Advice? Switching to V-Max cams

I was wondering if you had a good machine shop if you could have the heads on the G2 modified to accept the Vmax valves and springs and such. I have heard but could be wrong that the G2 cams are bigger that the Vmax cams but if out could get more fuel and air it then assuming the rest of the engine if the same then you should get more power of course raising the revs by using the DK3000 module too. -
In memory of request...a photo with a name...
Tartan Terror replied to Ladyrider's topic in In Memory Of
Though it may be just sad news to you I feel it is important to remember those that go on before us and the lessons that they taught us. it is true that many try to forget others strive to remember and the time heals and time fades so a picture helps keep the memory strong as the mind fades. If you dont want to see sad news just skip the tread and leave it for those who want to. That is the easy answer. I think that is why there is a seperate catagory. -
I am a car tire dealer so maybe I can help here. The cracking doesnt look bad but still I wouldn't want to see that on my tire. I think it is more a rubber thing. First, do the serial numbers on the tire match the one that was replaced already? If so then maybe there is a slight problem with just one batch. Also how do you store your cycle. Is it outside all the time with lots of temp changes. Do you use any cleaners on it. I thinks it really funny that no one else is having this problem. Avon is built by cooper and they are pretty upstanding and Coopers rarely have cracking problems. Michelins, BFG and Uniroyal (All the same company) are terrible for cracking. They use a very synthetic rubber that is less tolerant to flex. In a passenger tire small cracks are normal to a point due to flex. Once again contact the dealer and Im sure they will replace it. Make sure the serial number dosent match the one on there now and the production date is newer.

The importantance of proper riding apparel.....
Tartan Terror replied to DragonRider's topic in Safety and Education
great article. This really should be moved to the safety section so it dont get lost in the sauce!!! -
Hey I really like this idea. Great for sports events also and no draw on the bike power. Now I just need to find gloves!!

Sorry Guys no pictures yet but I got the Flaps on. I guess I kind of cheated but they went on really easy. First I took the chrome trim off the front and rear fender. then I placed the mudflaps on the rear and front fenders where they would sit and marked the flaps to line them up. After that I cut the remainder off leaving a lip to attach the flap so that there wasnt alot of material under the fender to catch dirt. I then drilled 5 holes in each fender and through the flap (3/16) and use long rivets. Use a large backing washer so that the head of the rivet dont pull through the flap. Replace Chrome trim. When the trim is back on the heads of the rivet is covered and unseen and the flap is very secure. They look great being as the flaps match the rest of the leather on the bike.

Eck, this is where the complaints go!! http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/contactus/home.aspx Yamaha motors and the electronics are seperate. This is under Star Motorcycles. I did confirm this with my Buddy Eric at the dealer. Going to his house to watch the Mets being as my Yankees got knocked out. Go Tigers!!! -
In my Motorcycle club we are trying to get better communications. Now not everyone has the Gem of a bike I have with CB already on it so we area looking to purchase a few portable setups that arent permanantly fixed to the bike so that the road captain can have them to designate people as assistants. What I am looking for is recommendations on which type we should look at. I want it to be portable (handheld that can be worn by the rider) and a headset that isnt attached permanantly to an individual helmet.. Does anyone have any good ideas. I have seen one by Chatterbox but we need a few that work good.

I bought Mudflaps for my RSV today. I want to mount them but dont have any idea where to start. They have 2 holes in them to mount but I do not want to drill holes in the fender. How did you install yours and how secure are they. I really dont want to lose them.

Read the write up in the tech section where a shock is disected. I just had mine replaced under warranty to a new number. It seems that they have changed o a shock that fits a couple different models Now. If I had to pay for one right now (Is it out of warranty) I would buy the works performance shock without delay. It is about the same price and is fully rebuildable. I only used the Yammy because it was free this time. -
Actually in one of the articles I posted earlier it says they do up to a certain point http://www.harleyalaska.com/news_articles_recent.asp

No, 5.1 is an upgrade to 3 and4. Dot 5 is very different. Do not mix 5 and 5.1. 5 is silicone and 5.1 is standard. The dot rating is just that- a rating and not reflective of the material it is made of.
-
Ok guys. Here it is. I have done lots of research and this is what I have found. Dot 3,4,5.1 are of the same chemical base and are compatable. They will mix. Dot 5 is of silicone base. Can be used the same but if you use it you MUST make sure that all other type of fluid are evacuated first. If not it will gel and get lumpy. I have contacted Afco and EBC to get this info. http://www.afcoracing.com/tech_pages/fluid.shtml As I said I have Dot 5 in both my bikes and am using steelbraid lines and have had no problems. Water will be absorbed in 3,4,5.1 fluid but stay seperate in Dot 5. Over time in may cause problems but not immediately. We are talking years. As in the case with regular fluid it must be changed and bled. If you are using Dot 5 you cannot mix. If you mix any of the others accidentally it will not cause problems.

Safety: Motorcycle Fatalities Are Increasing
Tartan Terror replied to Starpuller's topic in Safety and Education
Ive seen this. I would love to see a breakdown of Sport bikes vs cruisers and touring though. Also age and experience of riders as well as those with training vs self taught. It would reason with the increasing amount of bikes there will be more fatalities but how many are avoidable by training and how many are caused by rediculous speeds and stunt riding?- 10 replies
