  1. Seems like it would be a good setup and as efficient as any "V" type engine. The runners should be equal length since it is a "V" engine and the manifold and carb should be between the heads. I used to have a formula to determine the maximum cfm carb that would be needed. If I can find it I'll post it here. Here ya go... street carb cfm = max rpm x displacement / 3456 x 0.85 racing carb cfm = max rpm x displacement / 3456 x 1.1
  2. To make a long story short... I noticed that a buddy of mine has a set of scalloped tires on his Wing. He thought the $40 gauge that he had bought (gas station style chuck/gauge combo) would be accurate. It showed that he had 40lbs in the front. I checked it with my new Accutire digital gauge and it showed 32lbs. I understand Accutire brand are supposed to be accurate but I'm going to verify mine at work tomorrow since we have a calibrated gauge that is only used to verify other gauges.
  3. I was just going to ask (and changed my mind)... if piggybacking the thin one might not be even stronger than one new full thickness one?
  4. I checked it's MSDS and all it gave was the CAS# for the chemical ingredient. I finally found that the CAS# is for Mineral Spirits! But if it works, it works... There always seems to be a lower cost alternative when it comes to chemicals. SeaFoam is pretty much the same as Coleman camp fuel. Instead of Lucas or other brand name products a lot of us diesel owners use TC-3W 2-stroke oil from Wally World to add lubricity to our injection systems since they stripped most of the Sulphur out of diesel fuel. The sad part is that we have to add anything to our fuel to counteract the crap the Feds foist on us.
  5. Yup, like Carbon_One says... Get a rear tire in the size to fit the front and put in on in reverse rotation. A lot of Darksiders swear by the Pirelli MT66.
  6. Currently a loaded 2001 VStar 1100 Classic with 6100 miles on it for $2650 on the local CL. Everything looks legit.
  7. Mainly because it's so easy to change it and inexpensive. But the gear in your bike gets just as much of a work out as in your auto. It's one of those "why not change it?" things.
  8. It all depends on the temps for me. From cool to way too cold... boots, jeans, bib overalls, leather jacket, ear wrap and full fingered gloves. If it's cold enough add a leather face mask and fur lined gauntlets. Perfect temps... boots, jeans, leather jacket with liner removed and vents open and full fingered gloves. Warm temps (HOT for you Northerners )... boots, jeans, denim jacket and full fingered gloves; maybe leather jacket. Normal Mississippi summer time temps... boots and jeans, full fingered gloves and MAYBE a long sleeved shirt. It's a choice of NOT wearing a jacket and taking a chance on laying it down... or... wearing the jacket and for sure laying it down when I pass out from heat stroke!
  9. I still use the TRAC ll blades that I've been using for over 20 years. And I use the cheapest blade that Wally World sells for them. And I'll use the same blade for a month or more. Like someone else said, the Cherokee genes let me get away with shaving about twice a week. And I hardly ever nick myself. I did buy some Wilkinson brand blades REALLY cheaply one time. It felt like they were pulling the hair out instead of cutting it. I noticed some Arabic writing on them so maybe they were supposed to feel that way!
  10. Not sure if Yammi does because the screws on the brake M/Cyl seem to match the Phillips in my tool box very well... but Mikuni definitely does use JIS on the float bowl screws. On my Roadie and the wifes V-Star they got removed with needle nosed Vice-grips and replaced with 4mm x 10mm Allen heads.
  11. Cool bike, cool pics cool ride! Thanks for sharing!
  12. The higher the octane the harder gasoline is to ignite. This is to prevent knock (pre-ignition) in a high compression engine. Used in a low compression engine like ours it doesn't burn completely which can lead to carbon buildup. And it doesn't help that a carburetor isn't the most efficient way to deliver fuel to an engine. So, as Yamaha recommends, , use regular.
  13. I don't have it but I've read as much as I can about it and everything that he said fits with what I've found. The also are supposed to last an average of twice as long as a standard heat pump.
  14. They still sell those! Frantz Oil Filter http://www.frantzoil.com/i/Frantz/tn_PolishedCannisterKit.jpg
  15. Long one is ST7317 Shorter one is ST6607
  16. I think the Nexens, Kumhos and Federals are running us between $40-$70. But still a good price to add the whitewalls. Just not for me.
  17. I feel bad for everyone involved in this. Even the truck driver... but just because you didn't mean to kill and maim doesn't excuse you from punishment. And it needs to fit. Here's another link to the Phoenix newspaper where they quoted the Walgreen's employee, "He (said) he wasn't paying attention, just shuffling with his paperwork."
  18. Here is a new twist... he wasn't "painting his nails" but it's just as bad... Link to new story
  19. I know how you feel. Th first time I pulled the shaft on mine I spent 4 hours trying to get it back in. Tried EVERYthing. Finally got it. I've had it apart 2-3 times since and it takes 3 seconds. I don't know why the first time was so hard.
  20. I wouldn't mind making them an offer for the whole package including the trike. (If I had the room to work on it.) He's giving that away. Be interesting to know the story on what happened to cause that accident!
  21. How about #20? I kinda like the Royals. http://www.ksl.com/emedia//usersubmittedpics/1/179/17996.jpg?filter=ksl/pgallery
  22. Actually it's just coincidence. A Roadliner doesn't look much like Victory... until you add the Corbin pieces to it and they just happen to make it look that way. The Corbin pieces have had that same shape since before the Visions, I believe. I kinda like the looks of that one, btw... just more money than I would spend on it.
  23. Great bike! Once I get to my new place and have more room, a 'liner will probably be the 4th bike in the garage. They handle great and will take my big butt up past 100... way quick!
  24. The seat on that thing would be squeezed into a little ball by the time I got to the top and down. And that idjit announcer standing UNDER it! I was almost expecting it to come down when he got to the top and started rotating it up above where it was hooked. The higher he rotated, the less weight was cantilevered against it.
  25. 2 stories... My second H-D was a '76 Liberty Edition Sportster XLCH. I was 19 at the time and hanging around a local diner/pool hall where all the HS kids hung out. A buddy of mine drove a Civic and a group of girls needed a ride to the high school a couple of miles up the road. He only had so much room and there was one girl left over so I offered to drop her off before I went home. He left ahead of me so I pulled out to pass him and he punched it. Of course I just twisted the grip and went on around him. Just as we are getting close to the school my passenger starts screaming and squeezing the breath out of me. Now I'm about to panic thinking she sees a deer or something that is about to hit us. I don't see anything so I'm yelling, "WHAT?!! WHAT?!! WHAT?!!" She loosens her grip just enough to point at the speedo that's just passing 120 on it's way down. She was calm and having a good time until she saw the speedo and KNEW how fast we were going. And speaking of H-D's not being made to fit me... About 10 years ago I flew to Mass. to visit a half brother. He rode a H-D and had talked our uncle into letting me ride his FXRT (or whatever the FX model is with the removable bags and fairing). We put about 100 miles on the bikes on the roundabout ride home. We stopped at a park and were talking when he mentioned how a lot of people were staring at us on the ride around the park and he was about ready to confront some people. I had to explain that they were probably looking at me. I had been riding about half of the time sitting up on the front of the passengers seat. I don't remember if he had modded it or not but I could almost not get my feet up on the pegs while sitting on the drivers seat. My legs would start going to sleep and I would have to push up onto the passengers seat to get the circulation going again. Easily the most uncomfortable bike that I have ever ridden.
