  1. Any chance you might be able to provide me with sampler pics of your set, if possible? Thanks M8
  2. hadn't thought of that.. I installed the ONE nylon space / washer that came with it.. the AM/FM works fine.. The spacer was installed from the top down position.. there wasn't another nylon spacer or washer.. so the top part of the mount is isolated from the mounting bar but the bottom part of the mount is against the metal.. suggestions? Thanks M8
  3. I'm totally frustrated with the highlight bar on this bike.. I'm not sure what the issue is but I can never get it fully tight on, and half the time it is as if you missed the treads altogether, but it will hold the bar up for a while but loosen right off.. if the bolts don't go in at JUST the right angle, you can turn and turn all you want, it won't tighten up more.. And once you do get it right, there's really no simple method to get a tool in there to tighten it up enough not to cause it to flop in the wind or come loose again.. So my first winter project is to rip the dang thing off and go for an alternate route. I want to have 'something' up front for better illumination and better 'notice me' detection from cagers.. I don't have the original signal light bar since I'm not the original owner of the bike but I still have my V-Star signal light bar and though I haven't tried it yet, I think it could be used since both bikes do have similar parts.. can anyone confirm this? If such is the case, then I would need to find an alternative highway light setup, big enough blob of light to be noticed, light enough not to be bouncing thus causing vibrations and so on.. What are my alternatives? What do you have that's not OEM etc? Thanks M8
  4. yep went with the two same firesticks.. I haven't had a chance to set SWR, no meter yet.. Hopefully I haven't fried anything before hand by turning on the radio.. that would suck.. if such is the case then may as well cut that antenna mount off as I can't see myself replacing the CD radio for the $$ it would cost compared to how often I use it.. ya know? Hopefully nothing more than an opps, loose cable.. Thanks for the info.. I'll have a look there too.
  5. I'll have to take the time tomorrow to pull the trunk off and have a look at the CB connection again. What I can tell you about the whole deal is that it's worth it for the looks alone.. and hopefully for better range as well once I get it all put together. I was rather disappointed with the fold down parts 03EZ (2) Antenna Fold Over Adapter - 203EZ is what broke when I hand tightened it to the mount... not impressed.. I installed the other one gently this time but found that the whole contraption is so not well made and loose fitting where it folds that it would seriously cause a lot of vibrations.. wow.. talk about loose! So I opted to not add these at all and leave my antennas "not fold-able" at all.. very simple process actually. I had to remove my trunk ANYWAY because of a busted up box of laundry detergent from my trip to PA this summer got all over the place and needed a water wash to get it all out.. as far as I can remember there is a round plug under the seat and the two speaker connectors there.. perhaps I missed something else.. or worse case scenario I fried the CB all together.. who knows.. I don't use it much but it would be nice to have in case I need it later, ya know? I would need to find a couple of 90' connectors though to complete the look of it all..
  6. Alrighty.. just got back from installing two new Firesticks on my Midnight Venture with mixed results.. a lot of work and it LOOKS great but with a few probs.. A quick note, hopefully someone has an idea to help me out.. The AM/FM antenna was the hardest part and it turned out awesome.. good audio but with a few weeks of rain coming our way it's going to be hard to test for range. However, the CB antenna install was a shambles.. argh. Right now, when I press the CB button on the control unit, I get a CB:ERR message and it shuts off.. oops! Though I tested the AM/FM radio before putting everything together, I failed to test the CB at all.. argh.. I'm sure I plugged in everything under the trunk when I re-installed it.. Antenna cable plugged from antenna to box under trunk OK.. but before I start yanking things apart again, is there something I should be doing first? I must say, it does look awesome with a midnight venture hehe
  7. They are starting the garage build next monday, hope to have it completed before end of Oct.. hot tub installation soon afterwards.. (for medicinal purposes of course).. There are 2,001 projects a person can get into over the cold damp miserable non-riding winter in a nice heated garage.. where his RSV sits up on stands, waiting for work to be done to it.. Hmm wonder if the wife will mind me spending money on a large treadmill and huge fan for me to put the bike up on to simulate bike riding during the winter months? Go figure, mount my helmet cams up now and do a bunch of rides and then put it up on monitors in front of me while riding on the treadmill.. Hmmm how's THAT for the winter project of all times eh?
  8. Well I did give it in MILES and in KILOMETERS suffice to say that some trips I log in more than 600+ miles a day on the slabs.. My buddy and I did a lot of road trips into the US this summer, mostly all double lane highway (TransCanada down through to I95). And I easily put in over 200 miles a day locally in a day.. For me, riding is highly therapeutic, in a real sense..
  9. If you're like most avid riders, you put a lot of miles / kilometers on your bike, and the RSV is quite the nice bike for all those miles under the wheels.. But how much are you actually riding? I bought my bike with 20,000 miles on it last July and just turned 52,000 miles in Sept.. That's 32,000 miles in 14 months? The circumference of the earth at the equator is 24,902 mi / 40,076 km How far did you get on your bike? Food for thought eh?
  10. You think YOU have a winter project? I have to take a metal working and welding course this winter in order to make some more projects =) MIG or TIG eh?
  11. Well, how about that.. the perfect setup for the garage door opener, highway light switch and the what ever elses someone might need to do up =)
  12. A lot of people are afraid to split their fairings but it's too easy to do and simple to do.. just a bunch of screws.. and doesn't take long.. we're not talking about a day-job removing the whole front end of the bike, just the front half of the fairing.. I've got to pull mine off again to do the new antenna installation..
  13. I have mine under the front fairing wrapped in foam packing to keep it from knocking on anything.. even under cover it's frikken loud.. but it's out of the elements.. Cheers
  14. They stick out of way enough to get your toe under the shifter (I don't use heel section) and look up in the message, some idiot already posted a couple of links as to where to find these items from.. Cheers
  15. thanks guys, it's 10W40 AMSOIL.. I'll keep an eye on it until the braided lines come in and I can get the system bled again.. Thanks for the info
  16. If you lift your rubber pads, you'll see there is gap there and the bolt heads are purposely short, almost half size of a regular bolt head.. (as they are on my VStar).. You won't feel them under your boot as most of the weight on your foot is in the heel anyway..
  17. Drop me a line when you get it done, I'd want to know how it went.. I'm still not 'visualizing' where to drill it and what to use as drills..
  18. Oh sweet.. and here I was thinking I'd have to leave the trunk apart to access the radio for the testing. Many thanks M8!!
  19. Thanks M8, I'll have a look next time I pull the pipes off for cleaning.. I had the Larosa downturns on the bike this past weekend and they are WAAAY too loud lol.. ouch.. but my RKs are a little too tame.. Cheers
  20. Ok so now that I have all my parts in (somehow forgot to order a second mount..d'oh) I'm going to be installing these firesticks on the Midnight Venture. Seems straight forward installation, route the cables and plug them in, mounting the hardware etc.. I need to get into the front fairing anyway to tuck some wiring away anyway.. no worries there. The adjusting of the CB antenna though.. I gather it's all about hooking up a meter to the antenna system and adjusting the top of the antenna to get a great signal? Where does this meter get attached to? Do I have to have my trunk removed to do this, to gain access to the CD box? I have a buddy who can do it for me but would like to know before putting everything back together again.. Thanks in advance..
  21. I had those on my V-Star, mounted on chromed floor boards and they are quick and easy to install, requires you to drill holes in your floorboards in order to bolt these to the boards. Since I'm modding my V-Star with forward controls, I was going to put the chromed floorboards and these pegs on my Venture but the pegs are a little too forward to pass the engine guard, I would have to re-drill the mounting holes and set it correctly.. but someone got me a set of pegs that mounted directly to the highway bars.. Hmm might look into revamping those this winter.. Hmmm These pegs are highly adjustable and functional.. Good job Owen, good clear photos.. You can get these at http://www.kuryakyn.com/index.cfm/go/Home.ProductDetail/IMID/929 or perhaps less expensive elsewhere, Cruiser Customizing for example..
  22. Man, this place is becoming the "Comedy Fest"... "I didn't come here to be made fun of.. " No? where do you usually go for that then?? hehe Actually, how deep down inside the RK Pipes do you need to go before reaching those baffles?
  23. OI!! This bike doesn't have "issues"... it has "character" lol.. and no one has given me a gremlin bell yet, you can't just go buy one yourself, ya know.. you should know better than that!! But it's most likely as flb_78 says.. and Yammer_Dan, I'll get it bled when the lines come in and see what happens then.. =) thanks
  24. Went on a big ride today, what a blast but encountered a few issues with the clutch, not sure if it's 'just the way it is' or indicative of a larger problem.. I have the PCW heavy duty clutch installed, AMSOIL synthetic engine oil.. This problem started this week, perhaps 700 miles after the oil change.. When I started the bike this morning, sitting on the bike, first gear, kick stand up and clutch lever in, choke out, I flicked the start switch and the bike actually lurched forward an alarming amount.. not beyond the length of legs but wow, what a grab on the clutch it was.. and the clutch lever was fully pulled in.. How odd.. When the bike was then sitting there, in neutral and on kick stand, warming up, you can hear mechanical noise from the engine and when you pull the clutch lever in, the noise dissipates.. Is this due to perhaps the clutch fluid needing to be bled, as if I have air in the system or something funny like that? There is no slippage what so ever but feels like the clutch is ever so slightly engaged when the lever is pulled in or in neutral.. I have new braided steel lines coming in soon so the clutch system will be bled when the lines are installed, perhaps that's all there is about it? Ideas?
